Tried to search but the page kept timing out
I have an old note 2 I need to reactivate
I have to take it into a sprint location though so i'd like to revert back to stock
Is there a topic or tutorial?
This is the current stock rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53353625
i'M ON 4.4.2 now
Anyone to revert back to 4.2?
You can go down to 4.1.2 (we never got 4.2) but it is not something most people want to try. You can end up in a soft brick state where nothing will boot and no stock odin files will work. Then you have to flash a special fix to make your phone usable.
So why would you want to try that? If you just want stock odin the current NE2 tar from samsung.

For some odd reason, if I revert back to the current stock rom, when I root, supersu never works.
Figured I'd revert back to 4.1.2 and root from there.

Like jlmancuso said, you're headed down a slippery slope. If you tried the same thing with your s3 you would've made a paperweight.
Flash it to stock 4.4.2, take it to the sprint store (per your original post) and once you get it up and running, then try to root. If you run into problems just post here to get help...

Getting back to stock cont. . .
Soooo,
I was on a mission to flash custom kernel when all hell broke loose. Long story short list:
1. I have done a system wipe which has erased my OS
2. My device was rooted with the binary count tripped so I can't revert to stock rom *
3. I can't go back to the custom rom that I was on because there's no OS *
* = is this true
Question is, is there a way to either reset the counter so I can go back to stock rom OR get a custom rom that has the stock framework underneath already that I can just flash?
I'm totally stuck. . .and I dropped my phone in the middle of this debacle and cracked the screen
I'd try going into download mode and flashing the stock NE2 tar through Odin...

Cool I'll find it and give it a try
I tried,
I get a signature fail error when I try it in Stock recovery, and just a failed notification when I try it in TWRP. Anymore suggestions on how to get an OS on my device?

You need a windows machine and a program called odin to flash a tar not recovery.

Ok, I've been trying to flash .tar.md5 files via odin and but I get an error message on the phone that shows the binary counter, and says the file is not signed
Did you try flashing a custom recovery through Odin yet? I would suggest trying to flash philz latest version through Odin.
Turn off auto reboot in Odin. Once it's complete, pull the battery. Put the battery back and and reboot into download mode (power+home+volume down buttons at the same time)
Edit. Before doing the above, have you unzipped the tar file on your pc?

Yup, I've unzipped the tar file. I've been in and out of the latest TWRP and stock recoveries with no luck so far, but I haven't tried philz yet. And I'll remember to turn off the auto reboot and see if this method will allow me to get the tar file flashed
Thanks, I'll let you know

I accidently wipe my phones internal storage including backups, Im running latest TWRP and it wont read my sd card. I have a custom rom on the sd card but i cant access via recovery. phone boots to recovery and even download mode but i dont think my usb debug is checked and i cant get thru with odin. Im crunched for time as my wife is coming home in an hour and she will be furious if i bricked my phone i need help restoring before she gets home. thanks.
Heres how I fixed the problem, it was easy after doing but confusing getting there. Since the phone would not boot past the galaxy s3 screen there was no way for me to select USB debugging. That option totally did not allow me to use the Galaxy S3 toolkit listed in android development nor could I select and run any of their lists of "Root" roms because something would happen where ODIN didnt boot it correctly. It ran it at first then "Boot" came on then "Reset" came on then "Pass" came on but nothing ever took. I went to samsung-updates.com selected the ICS factory rom and saved it to desktop. Then I unzipped that rom to unveil the TAR file and flash that via Odin and Bam it ran thru no problems. The problems I ran into earlier were links from other posts and it turned out they were either bad links or not for the phone. I actually tried one guys download link that claimed to be specifically for the T999 us version and it turned out to be for another phone all together Im just lucky that flash didnt brick my device even more. Anyways Odin was my friend it was just a matter of downloading the "Correct" rom. thanks to all that helped I appreciated you all taking the time to answer.
I would download this tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746682. You should be able to use your PC to flash your Nandroid, although i have never done that.
It doesn't matter if USB debugging is checked if the phone is off.
when i boot to recovery it boots to manual mode anyone know what to do next?
You can flash stuff from your computer in download mode through Odin. I hate doing it myself, but will try to look it up for you

Boot to Recovery and reset factory defaults. That will fix it. It will still "stick" on that screen, but after a couple minutes, it will continue.

I booted to recovery did a factory reset but it still stayed on the samsung galaxy s3 screen for over fifteen minutes now. I even tried the rom toolbox someone suggested earlier but upon flashing a stock rom it prompts me to check usb debugging and I cant get past that screen.

Found a rom and a kernel in the development section and ran it thru odin and it still didnt take. I noticed that the rom flash thru odin only took about two minutes and not once did i see where the modem cycle was being applied. Still no luck for me. Since my phone does not boot pass the galaxy s3 screen is it possible to get the phone to mount via usb cable and copy the roms to internal storage and install via recovery?
Finally got it working again. Thanks to all that helped.

I have the TMobile Galaxy s3 rooted on most recent stock firmware. I installed a new font using rom toolbox after backing up firmware with TWRP, so it though. After installing the font I got a message telling me to reboot for changes to take effect. Reboot hangs at the glowing Samsung logo. I have rebooted in to recovery and it comes up with CWM recovery vice TWRP some how? I know I flashed TWRP through rom toolbox but it didn't take apparently. I did get a message that backup was successful. CWM will not recognize TWRP backup. I need a flashable zip for the correct TWRP recovery. Could someone please point me in the right direction for the TWRP recovery file or to get me out of this boot loop. Should I just flash the stock firmware?

I was able to get the team win recovery but the backup I made did not show up there either. I guess I will have to flash the stock rom and start over again. I don't know what I did wrong, thought I had backed up with TWRP. Kinda weird how stock recovery comes back after a new one is flashed. If I reboot into recovery now I get stock after being able to access TWRP and rebooting. Next time I go in I am back in stock? Don't know I will have to find a fix after I get back to stock.

Cool! Thanks so much for your help. I just want back to stock for now as soon as the f/w is done dl'n I will let you know how it goes.
All is well now back to stock and going through the setup process. Going to re-root and stay away from rom toolbox this time.
Much like the others here I rooted my T-mobile galaxy s3. The root worked fine and all. Then I downloaded this font changer app (I forget the name but it required a root) I go on to select a font then I go on to reboot like it said. Then bam, my phone gets stuck on the samsung screen. I then proceeded to use odin to put the stock image back on it (I think that's what it's called) It went through. I also did the factory wipe via the recovery screen. But now my phone would turn on, show "Samsung Galaxy S3," go to a black screen, play the t-mobile jingle, and the only thing that happens is the LED flashes but still nothing on the screen. I've tried virtually everything and I still think there is something else I need to do.
Help please?

The problem is that he may be rooted but doesn't have cwm recovery.
If that's the case then you need to flash cwm recovery first.
I would also try flashing stock rom again or after flashing cwr download nandroid backup of stock rom.

That sounds like a reasonable solution. Can I get a link to the CWM recovery file as well as a guide to it so I don't dig myself into a deeper hole? lol
Actually if you're stock recovery, factory reset should wipe everything. Including internal sd, just so you know.
If that doesn't work it'd probably be cleaner to just odin the root66 fw. But if you prefer the other way, you can find recovery files at the top of post 2 in the fw thread. Root66 is at the top of post 1.
I still need to add a few recoveries so if you don't see one you want let me know.

Hey guys,
Was trying to root my stock T-Mobile Galaxy S3, and everything was going fine but after it rebooted from Odin, the screen stayed black, and only the blue LED was pulsing. I assume it has something to do with my phone being on 4.1.1 and the S3 toolkit not liking that. I tried to flash the stock Rom to get it out of this, but now the same thing is still happening. I have tried multiple cache wipes/factory resets and multiple other stock ROMs. I always without fail get the same thing Samsung splash screen/Blue pulsing LED/start up sound and black screen. I'm getting really frustrated and worried. Can anyone help?

That's actually the exact problem I just solved. You would need Odin 3.04 (well that's what I used) and you need to flash root66 like one of the previous posters here said. It recovered my phone AND rooted it. So try that and tell us what happened.

When I try the root66 it fails in odin. I used the root66_TMO_T999UVDLJA one. First, I had toolkit convert it into a .tar. Then I chose option 8 to flash a stock rom. I skipped ahead to flashing the rom and factory reset like it prompted. Then I tried to flash the .tar and it fails. ..:/. I don't know what else to do.

Actualy I don't use toolkit so I might be wrong, but I don't think you need to convert root66 to tar. Just skip the toolkit. Put your phone into download mode, open odin, connect your phone to pc and flash root66. Check root66 thread for some info about unziping it or converting to anything. All info should be in op. If there is nothing about it then flash it as it is. Make sure that you have phone drivers installed and turn off kies.

Did the same thing
I did the same thing. I used the toolkit and was distracted by my son which ended up in me skipping over areas I thought I read and missed the part about JellyBean creating soft-brick.. It did install CWM though . Low and behold, I soft-bricked my phone with the pulsing blue LED from HELL. I kept having issues flashing everything, luckily the toolkit DID install CWM for me which was of no help. When I used Odin 3.0.4 it worked flawlessly with the stock rooted t999 rom which I have attached along with Odin 3.0.4.
Here is how to fix your soft-brick with the black screen and blue LED from hell:
1.) Download files attached and EXTRACT > root66_TMO_T999UVDLJA.7z AND Odin_3.0.4_Files.zip
2.) Boot into download updates screen by pressing and holding Home Button, Volume Down Button, and Power Button at same time until you boot into downloading updates screen.
3.) Plug in your phone to your pc
4.) Open Odin 3.0.4 make sure Auto Reboot and F . Reset Time are checked
5.) Click the PDA button at the right, select boot-stock-tmobile-sgh-t999
7.) Click the START button.
8.) Repeat Steps 2-4
9.) Click the PDA button at the right, select root66_TMO_T999UVDLJA.tar.md5
10.) Click the START button and you should see it install things you never saw before like BOOT, SYSTEM, MODEM, etc. (not in that order) at the top left where it shows installation progress (that little green rectangle)
I rooted it had a ton of apps on it and I just couldn't leave it alone. I couldn't figure out why I rooted it and then my Shealth quit working. So, I decided to install a different rom. Which I assume was back to factory. Well then I didn't have the dual window feature and couldn't get it on there either. So, tried to flash another rom. Well that didn't work now it just says Galaxy S4 and stuck there. 2 of the roms that I try to flash won't even work for some reason. This is TMobile.
One of them is this: ! SGH-M919-TMB-M919UVUAMDL That one didn't work.
Did this one: I9500_Omega_v3.0_X.....
I don't know where to start or begin now. Been trying to fix this for the last 6 hours and it is 5:00 am in the morning. I am going to have to sleep on this one.
Isnt is for Tmobile US versions??
You screwed up by flashing i9500 Rom man. May be u made softbrick before which leaves u option to go back to stock by odin but after u flash international rom you are screwed totally.

Oh Great. I thought the 9500 was the us version. So what is the US version. I can still get into recovery so I would assume i can still flash another rom.
I see it is the 9505. That is what I get with no sleep.

If you still can reboot into recovery wipe system data and chche and delvik too. Then flash any rom from our section saying for M919 (tmobile is that even att and sprint willl not work ).
You are on good shape if u can reboot into recovery.

You probably installed the I9500 ROM and soft bricked the device. the same thing happened to me a few months ago with my s3. go to samsung-updates.com and install the SGH-M919 stock rom. then, go to download mode and flash that ROM with odin. the same thing happened to me when i was a noob with ROMs. a soft brick is actually quite easy to recover from. at least it wasnt a hard brick.

This is exactly what I need. However the download on that page is not working.
I am still having trouble. I have no idea why. I have rooted every phone that I had with no problem. But this should be so simple and it's not
When I first rooted Shealth stopped working. Then I was going to just forget about it. But it was something that I wanted to use. So after a few days I decided I wanted it to work. I didn't see that anyone else had this problem. So I downloaded what I thought was the US version but guess it was not. I installed this new rom. Well now I had 2 problems. No multi window and still my shealth didn't work.
Then I thought oh crap I forgot to do a wipe. So I did a wipe and re-ran the rom. Well that is where I got stuck. I can not get passed the S4 Screen still. I can get into recovery, flash the rom (the rom flashes in like 1min which sure does seem fast). I then reboot and get right back to the s4 screen. Can't get passed it.
So here is my question. These tar files that I keep downloading. They are all zip files. If I wanted to flash them via odin as one told me to do I can't because it is a zip. Am I supposed to unpack this or change the extension from zip to tar?
Been without my phone for almost 24 hours and driving me nuts. At this point I would be glad just to see a working phone.
If it is the stock tar file you need to unzip it. The tar will be in the zip file. It will have an extension of tar.md5 if memory serves.
Sounds like you lost system files. If you can still get into stock recovery, then reformat system and then flash a stock rom. From there, you'll have to reroot.

Ok I downloaded a stock rom and unzipped it. I then did a search for tar and it couldn't find it. I couldn't find it manually either. So now I am converting the whole zip file to a tar. Gonna take a while for 1.6 gigs

You shouldn't have to do that. Do you have a link to what you downloaded?

I have so many but I am going to look them up and post them here in a minute. This is the one that I am downloading now. It actually completed but when I opened it, it came back with some errors so I am guessing it just didn't download right. I will get the links for the others in a few min.

OK, your first two links are custom Roms you flash in recovery. You don't unzip those. The last one, k0nane's thread, that's the stock firmware. Unzip and use Odin to install it.

Well that is my problem. The last 2 wouldn't flash on there. I don't understand why. Let me try the one you said to do through Odin.
When I click to open so I can unzip that file I get this from winrar. ! B:\Users\Jasons\Downloads\ModdedUAMDL_v2.zip: Unexpected end of archive
I am assuming it just didn't download right so doing it again.

If its saying modded, that's not the one you flash in Odin. That's a custom ROM. For Odin, its the one in k0nane's thread. The last link you posted.
Hey guys,
Before you all kill me for posting about this, I've spent close to 6 hours researching, watching Youtube videos, browsing the forums, etc. before I've come here and post as a last resort.
Brief Summary of problem:
I wanted to root my S3 to CM 10.2 and downloaded Odin 3.09 with the TWRP recovery (file name: openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.1-d2spr.tar). I went ahead and put it into Download mode and flashed the it with TWRP, but like an idiot I didn't hit back up. I ended up doing a complete wipe of the OS so I can't even go back. I tried to flash CM 10.2 onto the phone, but kept running into errors. I ended up using Odin and put on ClockworkMod to see if that'd work. I ended up getting error 7, then did the binary fix by removing the checks, and got error 4s. I even tried to get the stock ROM to see if that could be put on there, but to no avail. I'm out of patience and options at this point and could use any help I can get to get my phone back
Phone Stats:
Sprint Samsung S3
Android 4.3 (installed via OTA)
Let me know if there is anything else you guys need to know to help me out. Much appreciated!

Download the latest stock tar file
Use Odin 1.87
Put your phone in download mode
Don't use a pit file and don't check repartition.
Flash and you're back to stock and up & running.
I used cf auto root to root mine after that flashing the newest supersu in recovery.
Only use Philz latest recovery.
After you've rebooted open supersu and you should be asked if you'd like to disable Knox.
You're golden.

Twrp has been wonky on certain roms. Stick with Philz latest, or 2.6.3.0 of twrp.... go with Philz
