Root HOX - HTC One X

Does anyone has a way or rooting a HTC One X running JB without unlocking its bootloader?

Not possible

only possible if ur device is s-off.

I know that,.but it's unlikely to have one so that's why i didn't mentioned it !

I'm surprised you knew that, given that you thought it might be possible to root your phone without unlocking the bootloader! You need an unlocked bootloader to flash a pre-rooted custom rom.

How do I change s-on to s-off?

I have had my one x for a week now rooted and unlocked via htd.dev just wondering if I can change my s-on to s-off?

There's no way off getting s-off just yet unless I'm mistaken

If you have to ask that question then there is no possible reason why you need S-Off. You already have root access and can flash custom roms - what else are you wanting to do?

rooting htc one x

hi i have installed bootloader in my htc one x . i have rooted my htc one x also can anyone say what is the use of rooting ?
You can install custom ROM which you like which are available in forum under android original development.
FYI. I am running jelly bean in my hox (cm 9 preview)

The funny thing is that you unlocked your bootloader and voided the warranty and you don't for what?!
Some apps require root. Im not sure why you unlocked your bootloader because you dont seem to need root and like someone said above you have voided your warranty.

Is there a way of unlocking bootloader without using htc dev

Nope unfortunately not.
don't think so. It is the easiest way and also the official way.
But it can void your warranty (not if you are a developper apparently xD)

No.
But you can install a custom ROM or root the phone without unlocking the bootloader if you can turn off the security check placed on the NAND storage (i.e S-ON). So far devs have not been able to turn off security (i.e S-OFF) on One X, but it will happen eventually. Till then you’ll have to unlock and potentially void your warranty to root or install a custom ROM.
I've rooted all my previous phones but this time I'm waiting for soff.
Am I right in thinking that when soff is released you can unlock your bootloader without htc dev?

With S-Off you don't need to unlock the bootloader to root or install custom ROMs. That is one of the advantages, no bootloader unlock = no warranty issues. I waited for over a month monitoring S-Off development, but it wasn't really going anywhere. Tired of waiting, I just went ahead and unlocked the bootloader.
It took over a year for some HTC devices (i.e Desire) to gain S-Off, so you never know how long it'll take. But hopefully it'll happen soon...

[Q] S-OFF, then how to flash recovery without unlocking the bootloader?

So, i just bought this one X from a tech reviewer, it's s-off and cid is like 111111111111, now how do i flash a custom recovery? Can i simply use the one x toolkit and jump straight to recovery flashing?
R: [Q] S-OFF, then how to flash recovery without unlocking the bootloader?
I think you still have to unlock the bootloader and flash with fastboot the recovery

As i know, u still have to unlockbootloader, install the custom recovery like CWM through fastboot

As recovery, I recommend TWRP, is better than CWM

i don't think it's possible
I have the same. Unlock bootloader as normal. Use the hassoon toolkit if you like. Enjoy s-off and flash any hboot. I use cwm for recovery. Flash your Rom as usual, you don't need to worry about flashing the boot.img separately when you have s-off.
Enjoy

DONT UNLOCK BOOTLOADER. It's not needed at all, all it will do is destroy your waranty!

If you have only the s-off and if the bootloader is locked, you can't do anything...
Sorry afaik you need a unlocked bootloader at least to flash the custom recovery....its not possible without unlocking it even if you have s-off. You will get errors while flashing it with fastboot.....
Yep, I needed mine unlocked to flash custom recovery.
Assume you read the HTC disclaimer when doing it. If you want to flash then we take the risks.
Technically your warranty is not completely void however if HTC think they can blame a fault on the use of a custom Rom then they probably will. For example if the hw buttons break this obviously is not a Rom problem.

S-off temproot query

I am fully stock. Now this viper addiction is not letting me live with stock rom. I need to S off, root, and flash the rom.
My query:
If i S-off via temproot method, do i need to root again in order to flash the rom or any mods?
If yes, how do i do that please?
Or just S off is enough to flash the rom?
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
You don't need to S-OFF to flash roms just have a twrp or philz recoveries and root and flash away....
Actually i don't wish to have my bootloader unlocked by htcdev... Want to keep it locked

You cant flash a rom without unlocking your boot-loader. S-off is needed only if you want to make any changes to the hboot. So all you need to do to flash a rom is unlock the bootloader, install a custom recovery and then don't forget to take a nandroid backup before installing the new rom.
If i use http://firewater-soff.com/instructions/ method, do i need to unlock bootloader using htc dev?
Also using the temp root or weak sauce method, do i need to root it permenantly again? And then i need to flash a recovery as well?
I am a bit confused in the process...
Dont know which steps to follow and in which order.

As far as I understood, WeakSauce only works for the Verizon version, which is also the only one that really needs it, since you cannot unlock the bootloader.
Firewater should work even on temproot, but S-OFF won't magically root your phone. If you S-OFF with WeakSauce, then you can manually unlock the bootloader without going to HTCDev, there is a thread here around, very easy to find. After doing this, you can easily flash a custom recovery and perma-root the phone.
Tried looking for threads regarding s off....
I have International m8. I want to S-off, without using htc dev I want to unlock the bootloader and get perm root.
Anybody can help me on this please.

As far as I know, there is no known way of achieving this yet. The only temproot method I am aware of is WeakSauce, which should only work on the USA Verizon phone. However they write that trying it out on other variants of the phone should not do any harm. Go and try with it. I tried it on mine and it failed (application crashed), then I gave up and unlocked it with HTCDev.
If you manage to do this, please come back and tell us how you did, there may be other ways to temproot this phone, but they haven't made it to this forum yet.
WTH...
As i have done S off to M7/One X, i thought it would be easier to follow the steps... but , I am stuck with the drivers.
I uninstalled HTC Sync(firewater instructions)
But, I am not getting the drivers for HTC.
Also, ADB commands arent working for me anymore....ADB DEVICES say NO DEVICE FOUND....
I have Windows 7, and on the same laptop I have SOff my M7 few months back .....
ANY help with the links would be appreciated
