Maybe not the answer that you are looking for, but there is a free widget in the Market called 'SilentMode OnOff'.
Once installed, you can add it to your desktop(?) as a widget (1x1). It is a button that has 3 states:
* Normal (not silent)
* Silent with vibrate
* Silent without vibrate
It's like a mini version of the stock widget that allows you to enable/disable wifi/bluetooth/GPS/sync/etc.
I find this easier than using the volume buttons on the side to make it silent before bed. Those buttons don't feel like they'll last very long anyway...
HTH,
Mike
It is possible to have the options you are talking about, I have them in my power menu, but you need a deodexed custom rom to get them.
It comes standard in leedroid and rcmixhd, and is an optional addon for android revolution.

Just hold down the vol- button. It will go to silent mode first, followed by silent with vibration.
There's an HTC widget called Profiles under Settings in the widget list. Does the job for me.

Yes custom ROMs such as the latest LeeDrOiD 1.3 / 1.3a have the power menu you describe when you hold the power button however be warned if you are flashing it make damn sure you have Radio S-Off using One Click Radio S-Off. You will need root access and Eng S-off using Clockwork Recovery but be sure you get RADIO S-OFF as if you don't you'll loose full super user access and get other restrictions that come with the latest 2.2.1 build by HTC that there is currently no fix for. believe me this is how my phone is now as this wasn't made clear on the guide on the LeeDrOiD page.

this guy already made two threads asking how to install this rom and was answered multiple times.
HERES THE SUREFIRE WAY TO INSTALL THIS ROM
permaroot the phone (not temproot...permroot it, this is pretty important)
install clockwork mod recovery (you can find it in market)
boot into recovery (hold your volume rocker downwards while starting the phone then click recovery)
Install from zip and you're done.
If these steps do not work then there's the alternate method...
throw phone out the window of a moving vehicle. (make sure you throw it really hard)
then in 2 days come back to the place you threw it, not only will the rom be installed but you will also have overclock to power levels of over 9000.
I'm not sure, if I'm right here. I use this site for the first time.
So, I have a little problem, and maybe you can help me.
Yeah, it's right: I've a HTC Wildfire S.
Now:
You know the phone well I think. My english isn't that good. At the top of the smartphone there is a button with which you can unlock the display/screen. But right there is my problem. This button doesn't work anymore. And HTC won't to that for free.
My question is: Could somebody of you - if it isn't difficult - make a ROM or something like this to change it? So that I can use something different for it? Like the buttons on the display or the loudspeaker buttons?
And there is another question: How I could lock the screen, if this button doesn't work?
I hope you can help me!!
In fact this is not only lock/unlock button, but the power on/off button. If ever your phone gets off, it's dead.
It is not possible to remap the hardware buttons. don't you have guanrantee?
Yes, I know that. But with changing the battery the phone could power on..
Do you mean that you cant do something like I want?
Yes. It is not possible. There is a way to wake up your phone with vol. buttons in a custom rom and locking can be done automatically in the security settings. but when your power button does not work you will not be able to flash a custom rom.
Thanks. That's not that what I hope. But better than no answer
To the guarantee question..normally yes..but they say it's my fault..I dropped it...but yes I dropped it but after 3 weeks the phone doesn't work..can tsomething like that be?

Root using GUI on xda, install cwm recovery by alquez, install rom manager using insinks workaround then using rom manager install Henry's Hensemod that allows you to wake by volume
I'm on my phone. So no links yet

Did you try to put off the button and see if you can "fix" it manually?
I mean, if a small piece of plastic is broken, you should be able to stick it...
I don't know the exact condition, I'm just guessing and trying to help you.
since wfs has only 3 buttons, u broke the third of your phone.... and to make things worse, its power button ...
why dont you go to some phone service, and see if they could fix that button, it shouldnt be expencive, i did that on my htc tytn II....
First of all, I want to thank you all !

Thanks, benjamingwynn. I'm waiting 24/7.
Okay 5 days later I come back. I'm sorry for the lateness but I never normally go on XDA on my PC so getting links = problem. Here's step by step instructions:
1) IF YOUR NOT S-OFF - Use HTCDEV and unlock the bootloader.
2) IF YOU DONT HAVE CUSTOM RECOVERY/ARE NOT ROOTED - Click here, sign up, click on resources then click testing resources. Download the Auto-Installer GUI. Run the installer (Windows?) and then install cwm recovery and root.
3) Download Rom Manager from the Android market
4) Download Hensemod here, flash it using rom manager.
5) Enjoy Henry's wake by volume feature his amazing sense rom.
Any problems then DON'T BE AFRAID TO CONTACT ME! I will always reply even if it is a few days later.
hey guy's,
I'm trying to get mod that disables the dot menu and replace it with long pressing the home button to work on my One X but it won't work.
I now run the latest Android Revolution 3.0.
I did every step from the post. I choose the version for 1.28 and had no errors at all when i put the files on my phone, but when i reboot my phone it won't start anymore.
I also tried the flashable zip from blubbers and that does the same thing, it flashes and then my phone won't start anymore.
does anyone know what causes this ?

Errr,,, isn't it an option (or even included) when you install ARHD? I know it used to be, unless he's removed it for some reason.

no it isn't a option in ARHD for the HTC One X
I tried changing the softkeys on my Gnex and now I have none (I'm a newb). I am rooted and I can still access apps so if anyone can send me the stock SystemUI.apk in the system>apps I will greatly appreciate it, I will be even happier if someone can do one with 3 HTC one X style softkeys (just the original 3 though (back, home, multitasking) I would also like help on how to install it as I suck at modding and I need step by step help
Thank you so much for reading and hopefully you can help

I really don't want to go through the trouble of a ROM, really just want to simply change my soft keys
I lost them by trying to put HTC One X style softkeys on them but when I did the keys and notification bar disappeared after rebooting
do you know how to add them step by step?
P.S. thanks for the quick reply

Is the nav bar completly gone or is it just completely black.
If its just black, go to nav bar settings and press reset Nav bar.I had this happen to me....you'll have to re flash the ROM to be able to change the actual images of the buttons or just put up with the stock nav bar.

Thanks for the quick response,
They are completely gone, do I just do a regular recovery mode flash with clockwork mod? I am using just stock rooted JB so I don't have a ROM.
And are you sure there's no way to change the nav bar? I really want to without all the extra stuff in ROMs
Thanks

Thanks a lot for that, but first I will need the stock systemUI.apk, can you copy it from your phone onto a computer and send me a link? I can't mod anything until I have this back again. Thanks
Can someone please send me the stock SystemUI.apk located in the system>app location?
I really need this as I can't attend calls or Message and I can barely use the phone. I am in desperate need to get my phone back to normal again.
Alot of thanks to anyone who can send me the stock Jellybean systemUI.apk
Thanks

Why don't you extract of from the Rom zip
First, you should always, always do a nandroid before you flash stuff on your phone.
Second, I don't believe there is any way to simply flash keys on a stock rom. I'm sure if your more savvy to modding/theming you can do it but not without a little computer magic.
Third, to get your keys back (since you don't have a backup) you'll need to go ahead and either download and flash a rom from the forums (fastest way to get your phone back to normal)
Or you can unroot and re lock using the toolkit you used to root your phone, then start from scratch.
Edit:
Oh and lastly, sometimes ppl get a little pissy if you ask questions in the wrong forum. The q&a forum is up top

If you want speed go with CM
If you want features go with AOKP
If you want hybrid go for PA
All of them are stable you just have to choose what fits your needs

Those three are good suggestions, but none of them are "close to stock" as you seemed to want in an earlier post.
Thanks to everyone for helping again. Can anyone suggest me a link for a good tutorial to install AOKP, bonus would be if it is a Mac tutorial although Windows is also fine
Thanks again everyone!

...You just flash it in a custom recovery, it has little to do with your computer's OS. It's the same process for most ROMs. Have you actually gone through and read a few threads?

I actually change my keys often from my phone and I'm running stock. There's a post somewhere in themes and apps, can't remember exactly where since I'm on my phone, but someone has a bunch of icon sets for soft keys and also directions on how to change the keys using either apps/mods or directly in /system.
What I do is download the soft keys I'm interested in, and use Root Explorer to extract SystemUI.apk. I locate the extracted folder and then I move the soft keys I want into it and save over the old ones (they have to have the exact same name even if different images). I then zip the folder, rename as SystemUI.apk, then move it into /system and save over the current .apk and reboot.
When I first started this way it seemed like a bit too much hassle but now that I'm used to it it's fairly simple and quick.

Took less than five mins. Forgot to add that once you paste over SystemUI you'll either have to have a quick trigger on the power button or just do a battery pull because you get the "SystemUI has stopped" error message.
