Need Softkey help! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I tried changing the softkeys on my Gnex and now I have none (I'm a newb). I am rooted and I can still access apps so if anyone can send me the stock SystemUI.apk in the system>apps I will greatly appreciate it, I will be even happier if someone can do one with 3 HTC one X style softkeys (just the original 3 though (back, home, multitasking) I would also like help on how to install it as I suck at modding and I need step by step help
Thank you so much for reading and hopefully you can help

I really don't want to go through the trouble of a ROM, really just want to simply change my soft keys
I lost them by trying to put HTC One X style softkeys on them but when I did the keys and notification bar disappeared after rebooting
do you know how to add them step by step?
P.S. thanks for the quick reply

Is the nav bar completly gone or is it just completely black.
If its just black, go to nav bar settings and press reset Nav bar.I had this happen to me....you'll have to re flash the ROM to be able to change the actual images of the buttons or just put up with the stock nav bar.

Thanks for the quick response,
They are completely gone, do I just do a regular recovery mode flash with clockwork mod? I am using just stock rooted JB so I don't have a ROM.
And are you sure there's no way to change the nav bar? I really want to without all the extra stuff in ROMs
Thanks

Thanks a lot for that, but first I will need the stock systemUI.apk, can you copy it from your phone onto a computer and send me a link? I can't mod anything until I have this back again. Thanks

Can someone please send me the stock SystemUI.apk located in the system>app location?
I really need this as I can't attend calls or Message and I can barely use the phone. I am in desperate need to get my phone back to normal again.
Alot of thanks to anyone who can send me the stock Jellybean systemUI.apk
Thanks

Why don't you extract of from the Rom zip

First, you should always, always do a nandroid before you flash stuff on your phone.
Second, I don't believe there is any way to simply flash keys on a stock rom. I'm sure if your more savvy to modding/theming you can do it but not without a little computer magic.
Third, to get your keys back (since you don't have a backup) you'll need to go ahead and either download and flash a rom from the forums (fastest way to get your phone back to normal)
Or you can unroot and re lock using the toolkit you used to root your phone, then start from scratch.
Edit:
Oh and lastly, sometimes ppl get a little pissy if you ask questions in the wrong forum. The q&a forum is up top

Those three are good suggestions, but none of them are "close to stock" as you seemed to want in an earlier post.

Thanks to everyone for helping again. Can anyone suggest me a link for a good tutorial to install AOKP, bonus would be if it is a Mac tutorial although Windows is also fine

...You just flash it in a custom recovery, it has little to do with your computer's OS. It's the same process for most ROMs. Have you actually gone through and read a few threads?

I actually change my keys often from my phone and I'm running stock. There's a post somewhere in themes and apps, can't remember exactly where since I'm on my phone, but someone has a bunch of icon sets for soft keys and also directions on how to change the keys using either apps/mods or directly in /system.
What I do is download the soft keys I'm interested in, and use Root Explorer to extract SystemUI.apk. I locate the extracted folder and then I move the soft keys I want into it and save over the old ones (they have to have the exact same name even if different images). I then zip the folder, rename as SystemUI.apk, then move it into /system and save over the current .apk and reboot.
When I first started this way it seemed like a bit too much hassle but now that I'm used to it it's fairly simple and quick.

Took less than five mins. Forgot to add that once you paste over SystemUI you'll either have to have a quick trigger on the power button or just do a battery pull because you get the "SystemUI has stopped" error message.

[Q] Top Status Bar from silver to black?

Hello,
Anyway of changing the top bar where the time battery and signal notifications are from silver/grey to black?

Thanks
There is, but go to the "Themes/Apps" subject thread under Defy. You may also check out the "Android development" title, the different ROMS and thmes all have a little something you might be looking for.
you will have to flash a framework or theme through recovery

it does change other stuff you have to make your own if you only want the status bar to change.
question asked quite a while ago, but in case you're still looking for this or someone else wonders about it also... here's what I use and suggest:
On this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-923360.html
you can find this:
DarkBar Patch : adlxmod-Defy-Froyo-DarkBarOnly.1-signed.zip
http://www.mediafire.com/?hoiaf7d4na80jl6
It only changes the status bar to a 'blackish' look.
It's not pefect beacause the time display font hasn't been changed to white - but the rest looks ok.
To install this, you'll first need to have root access for your phone and Clockworkmod (CWM) recovery installed.
Then you use CWM to re-boot in recovery mode and then chose the update option and select the .zip file placed on the root directory of your SD card
[I didn't wipe or clear cache] reboot and it's done!

be carefull, me too tried to mod the framework to change the lockscreen (following a guide) and the result was bootloop.
im looking to know this too!
however, if you go into the dev section, there is a rom by iaio72 called s.froyo CEE, it have a theme with a black statusbar like gingerbread, you could try it.
I still beleive that the method I've mentioned at post #8 is easier than flashing a whole ROM...

[Q] Evo Fresh 4.2, Any working themes or removal of time???

There are no themes for Fresh 4.2 ROM at this time. This is a pretty much stock ROM with few numerous improvements, so any MOD that is not ROM-specific, but works with the latest GB OTA, should flash fine. Again, you have to make sure these MODs are NOT designed for a specific ROM.
To remove clock from the status bar see this post:

Check out UOT Kitchen for all sorts of customizations you can do yourself without having to write code or mess around with system files. It is fairly easy to learn and use even for a n00b. The only thing you'll need to know is how to use ADB. There're plenty of tutorials on XDA for that...

[Q] How to change overscroll actions and/or color?

Hello all,
I have a rooted HTC Droid Incredible with the latest version of the Stock+ ROM, and I personally dislike the green overscroll. I am wondering if there is a way to change it to, say, red; green goes good with the Sense UI, but it doesn't compliment the phone like red does. Aside from that, I'm wondering if there's a way to possibly add an overscroll action that Samsung phones include. I know that CyanogenMod does all this, but the blue theme doesn't appeal to me.
I've read many other threads about re-coloring the overscroll, but all I get in return is UOT Kitchen, which never seems to work.
If anyone could help out with this it'd be greatly appreciated.

UOT is the easiest way to do it. The manual way takes a lot of technical steps. UOT is really very easy to use, you can get instructions here http://uot.dakra.lt/how_to/. If you cant get UOT to work you will never figure out the manual way.
If you cant figure it out you can grab these files from your phone and zip them up, and post a link to them, and i will do it for you. Also tell me the # code of the color red you want.

You can try this even though you dont want my help.
1. Reboot into recovery.
2. Make a backup if you dont already have one.
3. Wipe dalvik-cache from recovery menu - advanced
4. Manually mount /system and /data, and format /cache from recovery menu - mounts and storage.
5. Flash this file Stock+ Red Overscroll.
First boot will take a long time due to wiping dalvik, just be patient.

Keep soft key mod while changing battery icon

Hey gang. Searched for an answer to this but couldn't find it, so was hoping someone could provide some insight.
I'm running vicious 4.1.1 on my verizon galaxy nexus. the other day i modded my soft keys, and last night i modded my battery icon. in flashing the battery icon w/clockwork mod recovery, the phone returned to the stock soft keys. so then i went back to re-do the soft keys and the battery returned to stock.
is there something i should be doing when flashing new mods to ensure the old ones stay in place?
thanks!
Are they mods applied through ZipThemer? There's a way to have both mods applied through ZT if that's the case.
If not, then just make sure the images for the nav keys are in the SystemUI.apk containing the battery images or vice versa, push the apk to system/app, set permissions, reboot, and you're good to go.

i flashed the zips through clockwork mod recovery. just went to see if i could do it w/zipthemer, but it said it couldn't find a theme within the files.
as for your second set of instructions, just went right over my head. i'm new to this whole process as i just unlocked and rooted about a week ago.
if i unzip the mod files on my comp, will that give me access to the apk file? how do i look at what's in the apk? a search told me ninjamorph - is that what you'd recommend?
sorry for all the extra questions. like i said - still feeling my way around.

Well if the files weren't originally meant to be applied through ZT they wouldn't work.
I'm guessing you're going to take up Zeinzu's offer, but if you still want more clarification about my earlier suggestion, feel free to ask.

Nexus 4 Softkeys and Notification Missing

Hi
I recently installed softkeys for nexus 4 by atticus182 following his instructions but when i rebooted the phone my softkeys(and the black bar) and the notification bar went missing, I m kinda disabled with the phone right now. And i did not take a nandroid backup either considering this seemed fairly easy. Can you guys like always have a way out of this. I m really getting scared here, How to get the stock softkeys back, and what was it that i did wrong?

Not that i know of.
EDIT: Checked that, its not Extended Desktop issue. Im not getting calls either, like it rings like once but cant see anything on the screen.
If you can get back into recovery you might try flashing again. Did you use zipthemer or metamorph? Metamorph can create issues.
Just flash your rom + gapps again. Make a nandroid next time too

Or : SystemUI.apk has stopped working. btw. i dont think softkey mods work on cm10
This is an issue with metamporph, same thing happened to me on CM. Just reflash. For some reason it does this when extracting plus installing. Once u get back to normal you can reflash them using the already extracted theme in metamorphic and it'll work fine.
