Hi
I recently installed softkeys for nexus 4 by atticus182 following his instructions but when i rebooted the phone my softkeys(and the black bar) and the notification bar went missing, I m kinda disabled with the phone right now. And i did not take a nandroid backup either considering this seemed fairly easy. Can you guys like always have a way out of this. I m really getting scared here, How to get the stock softkeys back, and what was it that i did wrong?

I am not familiar with that rom, but are there any settings for extended desktop that may have gotten enabled?
Not that i know of.
EDIT: Checked that, its not Extended Desktop issue. Im not getting calls either, like it rings like once but cant see anything on the screen.
If you can get back into recovery you might try flashing again. Did you use zipthemer or metamorph? Metamorph can create issues.
Just flash your rom + gapps again. Make a nandroid next time too

Or : SystemUI.apk has stopped working. btw. i dont think softkey mods work on cm10
This is an issue with metamporph, same thing happened to me on CM. Just reflash. For some reason it does this when extracting plus installing. Once u get back to normal you can reflash them using the already extracted theme in metamorphic and it'll work fine.

Can't seem to find anything for the newest version of Fresh ROM 4.2 that works. I have tried things for the past version and it just throws my fresh load screen through a constant loop. Just looking for some themes and a way to remove the time from the status bar.... (their was a method in 3.5, but it gets the phone stuck on the htc load screen). Thanks

There are no themes for Fresh 4.2 ROM at this time. This is a pretty much stock ROM with few numerous improvements, so any MOD that is not ROM-specific, but works with the latest GB OTA, should flash fine. Again, you have to make sure these MODs are NOT designed for a specific ROM.
To remove clock from the status bar see this post:

and scroll down to options 6, 7, and 8.

Thanks for the thread for the time removal.

Hey buddy, I am also looking for a theme to mingle with fresh 4.2 I've been looking but haven't found anything, not even generic themes mentioned already that work with any gingerbread roms. If you find anything let me know, and if I find anything I will let you know.
Me too!
After a slightly rocky start (had to re-wipe, re-flash) I've found this ROM to be the bomb! If I could just add back the pull down menu, I'd be in seventh heaven...

Check out UOT Kitchen for all sorts of customizations you can do yourself without having to write code or mess around with system files. It is fairly easy to learn and use even for a n00b. The only thing you'll need to know is how to use ADB. There're plenty of tutorials on XDA for that...

I appreciate the link but it's kind of overwhelming. Honestly I'd rather pay someone else to give me the pull down back.
Tried Widgetsoid - nice app but couldn't get the configuration I really wanted.
All I really want is that pull down...but I can live without it. Otherwise I couldn't be happier with Fresh!

The kitchen is "full". But it looks as though there may have been folks who have cooked up their own stuff that would work with gingerbread roms. Is there anyway that we can tell and download someone elses concoction?
Ok, i changed up my soft keys a few times... as per this thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1413582
Here is my problem... I changed them a few times with no problem. I even made my own and it worked fine... then after I changed it maybe a 6th time, the keys just vanished all together. I'm not talking that they are just blacked out, I mean the screen has streached out the full 4.65" and there is no slot for the keys. I have no way to navigate around.
I followed the "Easy Breezy Method - Using MetaMorph". I worked every time, except the last one. I have tried reapplying ones i knew worked, but no joy.
ANY ideas???

Restore your last nandroid backup? If you didn't make one, then I'd run an adb backup and flash your ROM again:
Code:
adb backup -apk -nosystem -all -f /backup/backup.ab
Using -nosystem means your SystemUI.apk (which is probably hosed) won't be backed up (although I doubt it would back that up anyway). Then, restore using:
Code:
adb restore /backup/backup.ab
Curious, what was the last one you flashed?
I didn't make a backup because i'm running stock... stupid me..
The one i flashed that killed it was "grungetext"
I'm going to try flashing with the "Automatic Method - Images using Softkey Modder" ... that one doesn't require much from the phone itself... lets see what happens..
ok.. well doing the "Automatic Method - Images using Softkey Modder " didn't work.. i think i broke it...
Just noticed i don't have a notification bar either...
Your SystemUI.apk is borked. Find a stock one from whichever build you are on and push it to /system/app directory.
Metamorph has been very sketchy as it is kind of outdated and is not %100. ALWAYS just push images into apks manually. Its safer and you learn how to theme properly. Takes less time than Metamorph anyways.

Is the nav bar completly gone or is it just completely black.
If its just black, go to nav bar settings and press reset Nav bar.I had this happen to me....you'll have to re flash the ROM to be able to change the actual images of the buttons or just put up with the stock nav bar.

Thanks for the quick response,
They are completely gone, do I just do a regular recovery mode flash with clockwork mod? I am using just stock rooted JB so I don't have a ROM.
And are you sure there's no way to change the nav bar? I really want to without all the extra stuff in ROMs

Why don't you extract of from the Rom zip
First, you should always, always do a nandroid before you flash stuff on your phone.
Second, I don't believe there is any way to simply flash keys on a stock rom. I'm sure if your more savvy to modding/theming you can do it but not without a little computer magic.
Third, to get your keys back (since you don't have a backup) you'll need to go ahead and either download and flash a rom from the forums (fastest way to get your phone back to normal)
Or you can unroot and re lock using the toolkit you used to root your phone, then start from scratch.
Edit:
Oh and lastly, sometimes ppl get a little pissy if you ask questions in the wrong forum. The q&a forum is up top

...You just flash it in a custom recovery, it has little to do with your computer's OS. It's the same process for most ROMs. Have you actually gone through and read a few threads?

I actually change my keys often from my phone and I'm running stock. There's a post somewhere in themes and apps, can't remember exactly where since I'm on my phone, but someone has a bunch of icon sets for soft keys and also directions on how to change the keys using either apps/mods or directly in /system.
What I do is download the soft keys I'm interested in, and use Root Explorer to extract SystemUI.apk. I locate the extracted folder and then I move the soft keys I want into it and save over the old ones (they have to have the exact same name even if different images). I then zip the folder, rename as SystemUI.apk, then move it into /system and save over the current .apk and reboot.
When I first started this way it seemed like a bit too much hassle but now that I'm used to it it's fairly simple and quick.

Took less than five mins. Forgot to add that once you paste over SystemUI you'll either have to have a quick trigger on the power button or just do a battery pull because you get the "SystemUI has stopped" error message.

I'm a noob here, so plz don't flame me if this isn't posted in exactly the right place.
A few days ago, the 4 touchkeys across the bottom of my T989 suddenly stopped working, out of the blue. I don't know why.
When I bought my T989 in Nov2011 (my 1st android), I got it from a guy who bought it for his son, but his son decided he wanted an iPhone instead, so it was brand new with box and factory screen protector and all that, BUT already rooted and running GB 2.3.5 Juggernaut 3.1. Until now, I didn't want to mess with it because I didn't know jack and didn't want to f*** up my phone, so I've been operating flawlessly without any rom or FW updates for 14 months. But since it's f***ed up now anyway, it's time to get my android s*** figured out.
In the past few days I've flashed stock ICS 4.0.4 AFTER WHICH the touchkeys functioned normally UNTIL Kies said there was newer system FW, and so I updated to that with Kies, and then they didn't work anymore again. NEXT, I found out about the *#2663# code, flashed back to GB 2.3.5 and succeeded in updating the touchkey FW, but that didn't help. I opened the phone and carefully examined the touchkey hardware and (without removing the screen) everything appears perfect. It's clean and there are no pinched or torn ribbon connections from a screwed up factory assembly. Also, I have had my phone in a D30 case since day one and it's been forever since I've dropped it. Obviously, I don't know for sure if this is a hardware or software issue, but the fact that the touchkeys worked again after originally flashing ICS, and the touchkey lights still flash on at startup, is screwing with my mind.
The only thing left to try that I can think of is to revert to the older pre-Kies-update system FW (which, so far, I prefer), but I don't even know if that's possible. Can anyone give me a clue, or any other ideas? Thx.
I kinda lost track of your troubleshooting but I'll give u a suggestion.
1. Flash cwm 5.0.2.7 recovery
2. Flash darkside super.wipe script
3. Flash slim star 2.2 ROM
4. Flash gapps 10/11/12
5. Flash darkside cache.wipe script
6. Reboot and wait 5-10 min
7. Reboot again and setup ur phone.
If your soft keys quit working again, I would be stumped.
PS. I picked cwm 5027 cuz its what I use and if u have any follow up questions I could answer them. Twrp and others are just as valid. I picked slim star ROM because I can confirm everything works also if u have follow up questions I could answer them. If you do not have cwm5027 recovery then DO NOT used the two scripts I mentioned. Good luck

Okay, so, here's what I did:
Using TWRP Touch Recovery 2.3.3.0
Wiped cache, dalvik cache, system, android secure, and factory reset
Flashed slim star 2.2 ROM
Flashed gapps 10/11/12
Wiped cache, dalvik cache
Rebooted & set aside for 11 minutes
Rebooted & setup
It's weird, during bootload the touchkey lights light up (which they always used to with juggernaut), but only dimly, not full strength. But they don't respond to touch...so far...
I like this slim star rom. It's graphically minimalist, but it's loaded with options.

gapps 10-11-12
I guess the other 2 good things about this rom is that it allows me to have all the toggle controls in the status bar which I absolutely can't live without (only having five in the stock roms is like sandpaper on my brain), but also gives me a navigation bar that allows me to replicate the touchkeys I've lost with a replica software navigation bar directly above that I can set up with the same "touchkeys." It takes up some screen area, but I can bump the screen resolution to a higher density to make up for the lost real estate.
The only problem i'm having is with gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip, even though twrp said it flashed successfully, I don't have the google apps. I tried flashing it again, still no gmail, maps, navigation, etc. (The ones in Google Play I guess are the 121212 versions and aren't compatible.)

Your device is not compatible with this version
Yes, my hardware touchkeys still don't work. I've been slogging away at this for about a week now and I'm ready to give up.
I would run with this slim-star rom because I can put software touchkeys right above my inoperable hardware ones. Plus I really like the rom.
But I have a hurdle still.
Yes, I have the play store, but...
When I go to download the gmail app from the play store, it tells me "Your device is not compatible with this version" and it doesn't give me a download button. It does that for other google apps too.
So now the hurdle is google apps. Why is play store telling me this? Is there something wrong with how I flashed my slim-star? I flashed from a v2.2 found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2109841.
thx

Actually, I never updated to ICS via Kies, although I did let Kies flash some type of firmware update. I regretted it immediately.
The fact that I changed the screen resolution from 240 might have something to do with playstore not liking my device. I'm going to look into that. LCD Modder Pro might fix it...

hi guys
im not exactly new here. i have rooted my epic phone a few years ago. rooted a google nexus and now just rooted my galaxy note 10.1 p600 tablet. i am having surgery on tuesday for an eye stitch which will close my eye more due to dryness and a cornea ulcer. anyways im trying to set up tablet to be easier to read for after surgery.
i have looked around but i dont see much. can someone guide me to a rom with full on dark theme for all windows? all settings and such have dark back ground instead of white would help a lot. i have increased font butits the density of resolution ive changed in passed but i cant find an app to do this. any advice?
i also been hunting for a dark theme keyboard that works on the note to support x pen but havnt found that either. dark themes but no s pen imput.
thanks in advance!
stuck in bootloop and im lost
UPDATE
found apps i was looking for. i flashed the cleanrom thats smooth and stable. it had the density app ive seen. so i wanted to try it. normal screen dpi was 320 and i put it at 360. went to reboot it. bad idea.
its been stuck in bootloop ever since. i have tried factory reset, reflashing the rom, flashing stock recovery with odin and removed sd card and tried again. even when i flash with odin it will eventually say 'pass' like it worked but i look at the screen and all i see is 'samsung' logo going dim then flashing bright over and over and over.
i been reading but no idea where to look or for what to help fix this issue. someone please help!

You need to flash the exposed disabler patch from your custom recovery It should be somewhere on your sd card internal I think but maybe external (exposed automatically puts it there). That should fix it. If you dont have the disabler patch install exposed on something else and get it from that device or maybe someone can provide it. Hope you get it working man.
