Hi guys,
I know most of you will say I'm a noob who hasn't searched and everyone and their mom knows this but im new to the custom roms, I have a US T mobile Samsung Galaxy S2 SGH-T989. I have rooted it and flashed the latest clockwork but when i try to install the custom rom it says im missing the update.zip file. and i cant find that damn thing anywhere online. I have harassed the search on Google, YouTube, xda and every other site i can think of but i cant find anything..... please......help?
Don't select update from zip.
Choose install/update from custom zip. It's a separate option.
RE
i do select the install custom but i dont have the actual update.zip file in my sdcard. i dont know where to get it

How were you able to install clockworkmod and root, but you can't find a rom? That's ass-backwards if you ask me.
Check the development forum. Plenty of roms in there. Most of them zipped.
i did find a rom but when i try to install it, i get a message that update.zip is missing

Select 'install zip from sdcard', then select 'choose zip from sdcard'. If it's on the internal, not an actual microsd card, select 'choose zip from internal sdcard'.
I'd start from scratch. Sounds like you did something wrong...

Then flash whatever ROM you want...

First off what the F is villain...
2nd... take the battery out, plug in your usb cable to the PC. Hold vol UP + vol DOWN and plug in your USB cable to the phone while holding the volume buttons. Does it go into Download mode?
**EDIT** If your talking about this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198334
Then yes you are an idiot. I'm sorry Thats for the UK version and I believe you are bricked. You could try a USB jig...
I'm afraid now (if even possible) your new friends will be Download Mode and ODIN..
Isn't the VillainROM a ROM for the i9100? If so, that is a completely different phone and you probably are f-ed.
sorry to say it bro but...
Have fun with your new paper weight.
If the phone is new, you can probably get a warranty exchange.
villain was supposedly a rom,
I did as you said but the screen does not light up or show anything, i hear the noise on the computer as if it recognizes it

Yea it is. I edited my post with the link to where he probably got it.. suckes when we can't help people :/
The question is where did you get the ROM from? There is not a VillainROM in the T989 dev section. VillainROM is in the i9100 (international Galaxy S 2) dev section.

If thats the case and it makes a noise you can "try" starting ODIN and see if it recognizes it on a COM port. if so you might be fixable...

Only option you have is to do a warranty exchange and play dumb or see this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562758 the op seems to have found a way to fix hard bricked devices for a price so get a hold of him and see what he can do
Thank you

You might be in luck if odin still recognizes it.
If not, you can try warranty or an unbricking service. There's one floating around for 40 USD or so.
Let me give you a little background.
Few days back, I rooted my phone. Then I used Titanium Backup to uninstall apps which I thought were not useful like LG TV, Email- should not have done that
Then the phone was somehow did not boot. I looked up internet and tried something- got worse: Emergency mode with yellow screen. Went ahead to a local phone repair shop and he exploited me well to hand me back the phone in working condition
NOW... the problem is camera does not work. It shows a black screen everytime I launch it. Going in Settings->Applications->Manage Applications->All , Camera shows 0 bytes !
Searching on internet I found that I should not have uninstalled the Email app.
Please share some ideas on how I can help myself here. Any help will be appreciated.
PS- I am using Ubuntu on my computer and Froyo.
Holy hell! I had the same problem a long time ago! (Except no uninstalling was involved) It forced my dad to buy me a new phone.

Try installing a custom rom, like cyanogenmod
There are multiple ROMs for the LGOME and they have been behaving as any other ROM for any other phone.

download custom recovery then
boot you phone into fastboot by pressing vol up + call + power button then use
fastboot flash recovery /path/to/recovery.img
then
fasboot reboot
then download any custom rom that you want and flash that
it will solve your problem
ps: do a google search for more info on fastboot use

Cleaned thread.
OP, I would advise, as you ask questions like the one you posted, verify the information posted before you attempt anything. If someone says that if you install a custom ROM on your device, it'll brick; go to the DEV threads, and check out other peoples experiences. You should also spend a ton of time researching before you start messing with your device. MOST of the big trouble people get into is not reading and asking enough questions. If you want to root, find out how to do it, AND how to fix it if it breaks, before you flash a custom ROM, find out how to do it AND how to get back to stock if you need to. The more you learn, the less the chances are that you'll end up in trouble

I think I did that mistake earlier. Read something about rooting and went straight ahead to brick the phone. I am hoping to have a clearer understanding of things this time. Since I am newbie, it will take effort. But this forum has so many experts and people are willing to contribute- I am sure I will learn a lot in the company of you guys.
I will dive in the DEV threads as you adviced. Thank you so much guys You are all my Santa Claus

If I use this thread, would it fix my camera ? I am not sure HOW should I install though, but of all the things I have read around here, it seems this might help. Please give your views whether I should go with this
If yes, could you please point me some link with detailed instructions ( the post assumes I know the HOW part ) ?

To be honest, I was confused with people talking about Clockwork and Nandroid- and I was stupid enough to try not finding out So, No. There is no recovery but on the bright side, I will do that as the first thing from next time onwards
Alright, well I've come to a problem and I'm not quite sure how to fix it.
The title pretty much says it all, I've completely wiped the operating system off of my phone. There is nothing left, absolutely no data or anything. I was much too hasty and irresponsible, and I fear for the worst. I had previously attempted installing multiple ROMs multiple times using CWM to no avail so I re-rooted and switched over to Team Win. I know before installing a ROM you have to wipe your phone, well... I hit advanced wipe and within that I hit "system", went ahead and wiped. There's nothing left on my phone my phone and there are no ROMs on my SD card. I had backed up my phone before wiping but when I wiped that was also deleted. Before restarting it always warns me "No OS installed on your phone, are you sure you want to reboot?" Of course it's bricked and stays at the "Samsung Galaxy SIII" screen. I attempted putting a stock ROM back on my phone through ODIN, but a'las it didn't work (always stops at "SetupConnection"). I have nothing and there is no way for me to get a new ROM on the phone, I obviously cannot connect to my computer unless through download mode because the phone is bricked. So, what do I do? Is there any hope left for me or am I just completely screwed? The phone is less than a month old.
another option is to purchase a micro sd card and place a ROM and gapps (if required) on it, install the card and boot into recovery.
so when you connect your device to your pc, you're getting a yellow com connection in odin? what link did you follow for a stock ROM?
as long as you can still access recovery and download mode, there is hope, buddy.

Yeah, when I connect to the PC I get a yellow com connection in ODIN. I followed what is, perhaps, a sketchy looking link for the stock ROM... It's not letting me post a link because I'm a new member to the board, though I've looked over this place plenty of times in the past. Should I look for something a bit more official and retry? I don't think it's going to work. Will a ROM work, without an OS? I know that may sound silly but everything I've tried so far has failed.
here's a link to the stock firmware with root already injected: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
flash the tar in odin like you have been. make sure the auto reboot box is unticked. if you get a PASS after flashing, unplug the device, pull the battery, replace it and press the recovery button combo. once in recovery, wipe data and wipe cache. reboot.
lemme know if that worked, otherwise throw a ROM on a micro sd card as stated and go that route
btw, a ROM is the OS.
And also, my phone has to be rooted for a ROM to be installed, right? Well there's no guarantee my phone is still rooted since I've wiped literally everything on the phone. I like the idea of a placing it all on an SD card but that could be wasted money and I don't have very much money to spend, especially if a ROM isn't going to replace all of the needed system files which have been deleted.

Sixaxis controller
Hi All
I have been running trunderROM 800 v2 for a while now and I am very happy with it thanks to shaheer and everyone involved for taking the time to make this amazing rom.
I'm having trouble with the sixaxis controller app.
It will connect to the tablet if I run the app with in the first 30 seconds of rebooting but then it will drop out after period of time sometimes hours sometimes just minutes.
The rest of the time it will just hang on listening for controller.
It seems that a something is cutting the connection when it runs in the background and stops the connection being made once it is running. If I connect it within the first 30 seconds everything works for a time, then the red light turns off on the ps3 controller but the app still says that it's connected.
I was wondering if anyone else was having similar issue with this rom and app?
I'm not sure if this is a rom issue or not but it seems to me that it might be as it does work to a point and then stops.
I would be grateful for any help or ideas on how to fix this.
Many thanks Richie

No worries man I was a noob to android back in july. Twrp is a custom recovery when you press the home+power+vol up at the same time while the tab is booting. Aroma installer is an installer inside the rom in which you can pick the apps, launcher and few few other settings while installing the rom. It makes the debloated process easyer. To install twrp you must be rooted and search in the play store twrp. Once its downloaded open it and hit install. You have to pick the exact model you have. May I ask what model is your tab s and size? Once you pick your model you will have to hit the install and it well make you download the file needed for the recovery. It then should say its installed and you will have to reboot into recovery. Twrp recovery is a touch recovery in which you can can install roms. To install roms (thunderrom/rom in a zip) You will have to backup everything. You have to hit the backup tab and check/tick every box in which md5 check, compression, data boxes are optional depending on how much memory you have. Now you just have to slide the slider and it will backup everything. It may take a while and you should have your battery charged while doing this. After your backup is done, now is the installing of the rom. You have to clear dalvik and cache before installing it. To do so I forget which tab its in but it should be in advanced. After clearing those you now hit the install tab. Now you have to select the rom you downloaded and it should be in the downloads folder. When its selected slide the slider and it will install it and take you to amora installer. Just pick the things you want and then it will install it and take you back to twrp. Now just hit the reboot tab and tap system. Then the tab s will reboot and have a custom rom. There are also some helpful videos on youtube to help you and if i forget something. Hope this helps! My fingers hurt lol.
I have a question: I understand I need to do a complete back up before flashing any Rom, but to do that don't I need to install a custom recovery. So does that mean I won't be able to put the stock **recovery** back if I need to?

To install that backup you will need the custom recovery. You can get back to stock by flashing the stock recovery img. I dont know exactly how to put back on the stock one but custom recovery is mostly needed to install your backups in case something goes wrong.

When I get to the screen 'some apps are personalized to the user' or something, I need to enter a name, when I do so I click next and I get the error message 'Unfortunately, Google Account Manager has closed unexpectedly' (my wording might be off, but I assume you guys know what I am talking about).
Would really like to try out this rom, but can't seem to figure out how to fix this issue.
FIXED:
When I put in anything into the name fields, the app crashed. Leaving them blank allows the process to continue.
I would appreciate some guidance as to what rom to install.
This UK version of the phone had become increasingly slow. I have just rooted it but do not know what to do next.
I had intended to install a custom rom and see it rejuvinated, especially for things like Sat Nav. I also want to get rid of some of the Samsung software that is taking up memory space and slowing the phone down. She I try to update the software to KitKat before installing a custom rom?

You could try this ROM, works great for me:
http://xda.mister-freeze.eu/XDA-files/ace2nutzer/CM11/codina/
Instructions that could help could be found here:

Alternatively, install custom kernels to improve experience:

I find the 101 pages to the help topic overwhelming, especially as it is solidly highly technical. Do you happen to know of a step by step set of instructions that I can follow with ease.
Sorry but some basic points I need clarifying:
You referred me to a rom that works great for you and yet suggest that a custom kernel will improve performance. How do I decide which one to go for? At heart I do not understand the difference between the two.
I had a look at the codina link and notice I need to know what file system is being run on my Ace 2. I tried gparted on my desktop and it did not pickup the android phone as a drive. How do I work out what drive format is being used?

Some searching in those threads couldn't hurt you. It's just one search box away.

- From recovery install temp. cwm.6028 (http://d-h.st/oZD)
- wipe data
- mounts and storages
- format system
- then CM 11 from 18/11 ext4 (link before)
- power off
- boot in cwm
- flash pico uni-gapps (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2397942)
- flash latest ext4 kernel (optional)
- reboot system

I use both. So, in my case, I install the ROM first, and then I install the kernel (instructions above). Note that the kernel part is optional, but should give you better experience.

You could check this by using adb. But if you never did anything before, than it is most likely to be ext4 (default for our Ace2).
Thank you for your help. I have just gone to get the temp. cwm.6028 (http://d-h.st/oZD) and it keeps failing to download. Is the link working? Do you have another one?
I notice that there are two download buttons. The plain download button causes a warning that I am going to a web forgery. The download now button fails to download for me.

For some reason (newest) FireFox downloads it but deletes it right away... This file is save! Use another browser (Chrome for instance) to download... De-activate Download Manager and use Download Now button... Not the other one...
I downloaded it using Flareget and sent it to my desktop and that worked as a download. The downloaded file is called update.zip. Your reply in the last message suggested to me that it should be called "temp. cwm.6028" (http://d-h.st/oZD). I ask in case someone has substituted another file!

And it's a save file (as I alrady wrote) - I looks right now that FF and Chrome dont want to download it...
I think some dump users reported this file to often! Only because they don't konw how to download corretly from Dev Host...
