[Q] Data roaming not staying on? - Sprint LG Optimus G

I had the luck of being on a special assignment for work earlier today where there was little to no signal. What bothered me was whenever the phone would switch to roaming, a notification would appear in the status bar saying I have lost data connectivity due to me roaming and not having data roaming enabled. So, I double checked everything, all roaming options are checked (domestic & international), then I went to Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Data Usage -> Menu and Checked "Data Roaming". When I did that, the notification would disappear and the 3G icon would pop up for a second then disappear again, then the notification would come right back. I double checked, and sure enough, the Data Roaming box was unchecked again. And again. And again. Any ideas?

Turning the data connection on or off

Hi,
If I read the HTC Desire manual page 128:
Code:
[B][U]Turning the data connection on or off[/U][/B]
...
Press HOME > MENU and then tap Settings > Wireless & networks.
Select the Mobile network check box to turn on the data connection; clear the check box
to turn off the data connection.
We can simply check/uncheck the above option to turn on or off the data connection.
Did you get any problem for turning it back on (from off) ???
Because I read the old HTC Hero (which has this option as well) has problem with this.
When you turn off data, and turn it on again, the phone cannot use data connection unless you soft-reboot.

No probs with mine
I've used this method since last Saturday, saves so much battery on my Desire and when I want the net, I can turn it back on easily enough or if at home just use Wi-Fi.
No problems getting it to turn back on again.
Does this mean I'll have to manually turn data off if I want to use wifi?
Reason why I ask is because I checked my net counter and all my data has come from the data (3G) portion of my phone whilst nothing via wifi.
Probably me being a bit naive as I thought once wifi was on the phone would know to use that automatically as opposed to 3G...
EDIT: Just had a look on my phone and under settings --> wireless and network --> mobile network (uses phone for data connection when wi-fi unavailable) is checked...so would I be correct in assuming that when wi-fi is available data won't be used??
and in Mobile Network Settings --> enable always-on mobile data (uses more power on some mobile networks) is checked (could this be the culprit?)...
Thanks for your feedback, that is certainly a good news.
Btw, does HTC provide a small widget to toggle this easily?
Or you must go through the settings -> Wireless Network -> ... ?

there is a widget you can add on your screen to do this (and others) goto widgets then scroll to settings hit the arrow on the right and you get several icons you can drop
airplane mode
bluetooth
gps
mobile network (data)
wifi
Press and hold the power button, it's an option on the quick list.

Turn off roaming warning?

Is there a way to disable the warning that pops up when roaming?
I assume the checkmarks in the settings turn off roaming entirely.

I wish I knew the answer to this as well! Checking the 'Turn Off' checkbox displayed in the roaming warning doesn't seem to remain checked! I simply get the warning again the next time roaming takes place.
I'm looking for the answer to this as well
Yes
Settings -> Wireless and network -> Roaming -> Roaming guard.
I unchecked voice and data for Domestic, I left international checked just in case I ever travel and forget.

Data connection disappearing for no reason, drives me nuts

Miles from NYC, in Northern NJ, data connection keeps disappearing. Going into the setting/mobile network etc, toggling radio mode from LTE to the next lower settings and back recovers the data and 4G icon comes back on, only to disappear again minutes later. Signal strength through the roof, no issues with voice, only the data connection is affected.
it is really bad now to where I dont have a data connection most of the time. Wicked V2, the problem has surfaced early this week.
Called CS yesterday - was told to toggle some settings under mobile network ("Data roaming" and "access point" reset to default), it came back up, but now even that doesn't work - the only reliable way to get it back, for few mins, is to toggle LTE mode off and on.
Any advice ?

Probably just tower upgrades. Give it time.

Sprint LG G2 (LS980) Data Roaming Bug

Does anyone experience this scenario where the "Data Roaming" check box seems to uncheck itself in Settings/Mobile Data (hit the Menu button to check "Data Roaming" on)?
Even if I have it set on to Data Roam, every once in a while, it seems to uncheck itself. How do I know this, there's a certain section in the building I work where I usually always roam on Verizon (voice and data, no problem) and previous phones I've had (Note 2 and iPhone 5s) would roam just fine.
With the G2, I'll notice that a triangle pops up in the top left telling me that I've lost data connection because I have Data Roaming turned off. Of course I set it to data roam.
Lo and behold I go into Settings and Data Roaming has turned itself off again, so I check the box to Data Roam and data starts flowing. It will stick for most of the day or two until I notice it again, and the cycle repeats itself.
It gets really frustrating if I don't notice this phantom behaviour because I could be in this particular location for quite sometime and not notice that I don't have data because it's unchecked itself, again.
Anyone?
Mine will stay ticked but ***** that it is disabled. It's annoying.

I have a similar problem in that the box will stay checked, but I get "Data Roam Guard" notifications all of the time, even though I have the setting to not get the notifications. When I click remember this setting it doesn't take, and I also get the triangles regularly. It's very annoying.
Sadly I've gone back to my 5S. Just couldn't take it anymore constantly losing data where I never did before. Still keeping the phone hoping a not too far in the future update helps.
I can't believe this isn't happening to more people. Can't even find an inkling anywhere. Weird bug.
Very annoying. I have the same issue.
Just got my lg g2 2/15 great phone and i too am having the same issue is there a fix yet? i to am in and out of sprint service and have to keep turning it back on (put a check back in the roam box)

I Guess just a few of us have the data issue so short of returning the phone i called sprint to see if they had any ideas. had them create a trouble ticket to address the issue so will give it a few more days see what happens. Other than this major bug phone is great.

It seemed to only happen after the recent OTA update. I got so frustrated I reset the phone to factory, but still no fix. Anyone have an update on this bug?
On 4.4.2, same issue, no update here.

Galaxy S9 Data Icon persistent

There will be many times when my data icon will be persistent even on wifi.
I'm pretty sure it's not actually downloading anything because I don't see the download and upload arrows lighting up.
At times, the issue will go away, but in others it reappears. I've made sure to disable "Keep Mobile data turned on" in the developer options.
Has anyone else been experiencing this? I'm on T-Mobile.

Thank you. I forgot to mention that when I usually leave data and wifi on, wifi automatically overrides it. I still leave my data on because of this fact. Right now, it seems to be working (as in the phone is only showing wifi with both data and wifi enabled).

WiFi will override it as long as you do not have that setting enabled, if you do the phone will switch between data and wifi randomly when it thinks data will give a better connection
You do not need that setting enabled to leave data on, I do not have it enabled and my phone will switch to data once I leave wifi, that setting just gives the phone a dumb brain that barely works and forces it to switch back and forth regardless, it has never worked properly since the S5 series
You can safely disable that setting and still have data come back on automatically once you leave wifi
