Does anyone experience this scenario where the "Data Roaming" check box seems to uncheck itself in Settings/Mobile Data (hit the Menu button to check "Data Roaming" on)?
Even if I have it set on to Data Roam, every once in a while, it seems to uncheck itself. How do I know this, there's a certain section in the building I work where I usually always roam on Verizon (voice and data, no problem) and previous phones I've had (Note 2 and iPhone 5s) would roam just fine.
With the G2, I'll notice that a triangle pops up in the top left telling me that I've lost data connection because I have Data Roaming turned off. Of course I set it to data roam.
Lo and behold I go into Settings and Data Roaming has turned itself off again, so I check the box to Data Roam and data starts flowing. It will stick for most of the day or two until I notice it again, and the cycle repeats itself.
It gets really frustrating if I don't notice this phantom behaviour because I could be in this particular location for quite sometime and not notice that I don't have data because it's unchecked itself, again.
Anyone?
Mine will stay ticked but ***** that it is disabled. It's annoying.

I have a similar problem in that the box will stay checked, but I get "Data Roam Guard" notifications all of the time, even though I have the setting to not get the notifications. When I click remember this setting it doesn't take, and I also get the triangles regularly. It's very annoying.
Sadly I've gone back to my 5S. Just couldn't take it anymore constantly losing data where I never did before. Still keeping the phone hoping a not too far in the future update helps.
I can't believe this isn't happening to more people. Can't even find an inkling anywhere. Weird bug.
Very annoying. I have the same issue.
Just got my lg g2 2/15 great phone and i too am having the same issue is there a fix yet? i to am in and out of sprint service and have to keep turning it back on (put a check back in the roam box)

I Guess just a few of us have the data issue so short of returning the phone i called sprint to see if they had any ideas. had them create a trouble ticket to address the issue so will give it a few more days see what happens. Other than this major bug phone is great.

It seemed to only happen after the recent OTA update. I got so frustrated I reset the phone to factory, but still no fix. Anyone have an update on this bug?
On 4.4.2, same issue, no update here.

I cant find an answer to this anywhere. If i missed something then im sorry.
i randomly get an alert for "international data roaming" on my evo. theres some text beyond that but it gets cut off. i think it starts as "you have entered internation...." and then its cut off. it seems to only happen when im connected to wifi. turning wifi off then on clears it. pressing the clear button removes it for a little while then it pops up again. it mostly happens at home, where i have horrible reception(0-2 bars), and has happened once or twice at work where i get ok to decent reception.
has this happened to anyone else? its been happening almost on a daily basis since i rooted back in January. hasn't shown up on any bills.
i don't have "international data roaming" enabled, nor do i have "national data roaming" enabled. "data enabled" is checked. "system select" is et to automatic.
this has happened on every rom iv used. gingerbread and froyo.
again, if theres something i missed please let me know.
thanks in advance!

I get that same message using CM7.....don't look too much into it. I don't get the message every single time but I would say, once a week I think. All I did to fix it was go into settings/mobile networks and toggle international data roaming on and off. If that doesn't get rid of the message then just reboot........Oh and don't worry, you're not being charge anything extra or whatever!
If that doesn't solve your problem, my advice would be to flash a sense rom or try another rom because to my knowledge, the CM7 rom is the only one that has that message pop up randomally.
more than anything i just find it annoying, it shouldnt be there. iv gotten it on all cm7's, evokings gingerbread, and the savage gingerbread. its not urgent, i just realy want it to go away..
For security purposes at some point sprint will turn off international calling if not used. Sounds like it may fix it, but I can not be sure.
this happens, for me at least, when i roam onto another carrier. if unchecked ill get voice but no data. enabling it allows me to data roam. why it thinks its international idk.
This is NOT the "LOS" bug, as its commonly understood, where you lose your cellular service (circle with a line for those who are lucky enough to be informed their phone crashed). This is the dreaded Roaming Triange of Data Death.
Background: Occasionally, when roaming, I lose all data connectivity, and I get the triangle warning in the notification bar that says "You have lost data connectivity be...." and of course, its impossible to read the rest of the warning. Standard deductive reasoning, assisted by posts here, tell me its a probably something like "because of your roaming data guard settings."
Some here have suggested that Samsung phones are unable to roam on PCS data.
What I did:
1) I check my roaming data settings, and I have the option to roam enabled, and roam guards enabled. I disable the roam guard. No data. I check the box again, no data.
2) I reboot the phone, no data.
3) I uncheck both the voice and data roam settings for domestic and international and reselect the domestic. I get the "Are you sure...?" prompt, and select yes. No data.
4) I uncheck the data roam guard, and then go back to Roam Settings, uncheck and recheck data roaming, and voila! I get the big triangle that asks me if I want to data roam, I say yes, and I have data again! 3G, too. I pulled 1.3mbs in the middle of the forest in northern Wisconsin. (I was roaming on Cellcom, apparently)
I was able to reproduce the problem pretty easily... It seems like when the roam guard is enabled, you don't actually get the Allow? Yes/No warning prompt when you start to data roam. However, turning it off the guard by itself didn't fix the problem... I also had to turn off the ability to data roam, and then turn it back on before the phone allowed me to roam.
I hope this helps someone else!

Yes, it's a known bug.
There were several threads about it.
Here's my own.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1273527
Well it only asked you because you turned off the Guard. Once you say yes again the Guard is rechecked.

But the guard settings should be permanent. If I have disable the roaming guard, it should never ask me if I want to roam. I shouldn't have to recheck it, and then uncheck it again in order for it to allow roaming.
Background:
Ever since I've had this phone I couldn't get a data signal while roaming in areas where I knew one was available. Old phones would get data while roaming without a problem.
The Epic Touch would just give a notification saying "you have lost data connectivity" or something.
I understand certain Sprint roaming areas just plain don't have data available. This howto can not fix that.
What this howto does help you do is get a data signal while roaming in areas where a roaming data signal is available.
Credit:
This was apparently discovered by someone on the sprint forums, and I found a reference to it on the Android Central forums, so I do not know who credit goes to for discovering this.
What to Do:
It's best if you are in a roaming-only area to test this, or if you can force roaming. You'll also need to be on the stock kernel (rooted is fine) so you have the ability to update your Profile.
Let's do that now. Go to the Settings menu and tap About Phone - system updates - update profile and wait for it to complete, then tap ok.
From the home screen, tap Menu - Settings - Wireless and Networks - Roaming - Roaming Settings.
Un-check all options here (voice and data for both domestic and international)
With no boxes checked, tap the "Data" box under domestic roaming. Tap only this one, not voice.
You will get a box asking you to confirm. Click yes. This will then automatically enable voice as well.
Another pop up with a red box will ask if you really want to use data while roaming. At this point you can tell it to never ask again and click Roam.
Now you can use data while roaming where it's available!
Update:
after trying this multiple times to verify it works, occasionally the final pop-up with the red box disappears before you can read it. I was able to long press the home button to show recent apps, then tap the "Data Roaming Guard" app. Then I could tap Roam.
This is critical for me as sometimes I am in roaming areas for work and I need internet and this phone is the only access I have. Now I can use it!
Report back with any corrections or feedback. Mileage may vary.
I don't know if it's necessary to update the profile. I have that step in there because that is the sequence I used. If you try it without updating the profile, let me know. This would allow people on a custom kernel to do this too.
I spent an hour and a half with Sprint yesterday on the phone trying to resolve this. They turned me over to new reps three times (including to the international support department) each one not aware of my issue so I'd have to explain everything again.
Finally I started digging on the web and found the tip on AC. Took me 2 minutes.
DOH! Stupid Tapatalk.
Mods, please move to General. Didn't mean to start this in development.
Thanks for sharing this. I will try this out.

I have the same issues. My girlfriend has an EVO and she will have data while roaming, and I wont. Even if were right next to each other.
Thanks, this worked great for me & did not have to update profile. I am on stock rooted deodexed rom.
Worked for me! Thanks, that was very annoying!
thanks! now i can play wwf at work lol
I did this awhile back when I saw it on the AC forums. I also read this phone cannot roam on PCS networks because of a limitation in the radio so there still may be times it won't roam when other phones will.
Greetings All!
I was able to make roaming calls before; but I followed these instructions and now I can use roaming data as well. Fortunately Atlanta is a pretty good 4G metro area so I rarely need to use roaming data. Usually either 3G or 4G is available. Nonetheless it's nice to have the option.
FYI I forced roaming by using the Roam Control app and have verified that for the first time with this phone I have a nonzero "Sprint 3G Data Roaming" entry in the detailed usage screen on the Sprint website.
Many thanks!
Cheers, Henri
Ok, glad this is working for people! I know it was the biggest gripe I had about the phone by far.

Agreed. And such a simple solution. Thanks again.
Has anyone else been seeing near constant Roaming Notifications? The little triangle up int the notification bar.
I have unchecked everything in Roaming Guard and I am still getting the notifications. Is there some other setting to turn off these notifications?
I'd like to know how to stop these as well. Tho, mine wont let me uncheck the ones under GSM roaming. I thought I glimpsed somewhere that the way to turn that off was to remove a particular apk file and folder in the systems folder... but I can't find it again.
Mine remain checked as well, though they remain grey so I am not concerned with them. The only way I have been able to eliminate the messages is to change Settings>More Settings>Roaming>Roaming Network
Change to "Home Only". This is my workaround, but I dont think its the answer as I believe it eliminates additional roaming networks.
I get them all the time too and they're annoying. I ignore them. Now it's like the Boy who cried Wolf.
I turned my setting to sprint only instead of automatic roaming and I don't get the notification anymore but I will probably not be able to roam when out of sprint service area as well

I get them to and have changed the setting and they always revert back to the original. Getting very angry. How is this stopped?
Has anyone been able to resolve this?? its freaking annoying! the dang thing wont stay off!
Anyone ever find a way to delete the dang notification? Just really annoying... If someone can give me a starting point, I could try diving in, but I have no idea where to start.
Have any of you guys tried turned off the sprint connection optimizer? I've read somewhere that it stops these notifications.

I never thought that might be what keeps the network data notification going, you might be right. I had the Sprint optimizer disabled but when I went into mange apps it showed it disabled but there was a little box checked for notifications. So, for good measure I uninstalled the app completely. I'll report back with the results in a while... I hope that eliminates that annoying crap! Thank you!
UPDATE: arrrrrrrRrrggghhhh ! Still popping up.... thanks anyway. There has got to be some line of code to remove, I just wish I knew how to find the offender.
I have these roaming notifications also. Just ignored them. I'll see if I can stop them and report back.

They cant be that much different...
Did anyone ever figure this out?
I'm having a problem trying to disable the Roam Guard settings. The Roaming network is set to Automatic, but I cannot un-check the Voice and Data (actually it prompted me when roaming and had a little check box to not show again for Data, but Voice is still selected and doesn't give the little check box to not show again) roaming guards for Domestic Data or International Data with exception to "Outgoing SMS" in International. I am stumped. Had them unchecked before, but had to change the Roaming network to "Home Only" because my phone was having trouble connecting to an Airave. I immediately switched it back to Automatic once it connected, and now I cannot disable the Roam Guard
Any ideas? Screen Shot attached.
1. ##SCRTN#
2. Reboot
3. Hands Free Activate
4. Reboot
5. Update Profile/PRL
Roam Guard boxes should be restored / not grayed out.
Data Roaming Notifications Fix
This has removed the constant roaming notifications for me:
Settings>More networks>Mobile networks>Connections optimizer>Uncheck connections optimizer
Starting today, my Note 4 gets into a mode where whenever I place a phone call, the phone immediately says "Call ended" and hangs up before even connecting.
Signal strength is fine and nothing has changed today (including my physical location).
I've tried clearing cache/data on the Phone app and force-stopping the Phone app, but that doesn't fix the problem.
If I reboot the phone, then the problem does disappear for a while and I can place calls normally. But within an hour or so it's back in "Call ended" mode.
Since rebooting always fixes it immediately, the problem appears to be with the phone and not the carrier. I'm running the latest OTA version (COC4), totally stock.
Does anyone know of a solution, or at least a quicker workaround than rebooting?
the same thing is happening to me... last update
Factory reset, as much as it sucks it fixes most issues, not all obviously
Go into network settings turn off enhanced 4g lte services. Go into apn settings and reset to default. Reboot.
Similar situation happened to me.

I am having very similar symptom now on my Galaxy S6 Stock, however resetting APN not work
, is there still hope not to go factory resetting? I found some people not having problem solved but yet have to face a empty phone again and again, what a waste of time :silly:
BTW, I can have this "call ended" immediately" issue fixed for like 30 mins by switch between voice call mode like 4G/3G/2G automatic <-> 3G/2G automatic, but after a short time it goes back again, turn out the fix not quite helpful because even inbound calls result in as "no receiving", quite an issue.
