Please Help Root Have Tried Every Thing - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys I am trying to root my dad's Xperia Arc S but unfortunatelly I am having the most hardest time
I have tried anything to everything from flashboot to zerg rush to even droid break nothing is working
I believe the problem is my windows xp not having the correct Xperia Arc S drivers which i have installed i think
Although i have unlocked bootloader with flashboot
I cannot root
I even tried flash tool but same thing happens the computer does not recognize the phone for some reason
Can anyone point me to the right direction ?
Thank you

and this phone has gingerbread 2.3.4 not ICS

What firmware version you are on?
Sent from my Xperia Arc

If your phone's firmware is .62 then you cannot root. You must downgrade to .42 firmware

Yes, you hold back button while plugging the device. NOT the volume down or menu button.
As for drivers. Try with uninstalling everything from your comp, Flashtool, SUS, PC Companion, etc... And then do a clean install of Flashtool + drivers.
Then boot your comp into safe mode (just to be sure, as sometimes some background processes are preventing drivers from being installed) and then connect your phone to comp into flash mode (back button while connecting cable), and let your phone be recognised.
Then you can reboot your comp back into normal state, and then perform flashing.

Xperia S Fastboot problem

So I was about to root my Xperia S and started reading a guide, it said that I would need to load some files into the phone using fastboot. After a while I figured out how to fastboot and managed to get the popup on my computer once, however, I didn't install it that time and now when I try to fastboot again I get the blue LED on my phone, my computer makes some noises indicating that something unusual have been conected, nothing happens and the phone shows the Sony logo.
Does anybody know how to fix the problem and get the popup on the computer to re apear.
I run a 64 bit windows 7 home premium.
Thanks.

I don't have anything from flashTool. The guide I used is this: AddictiveTips . com and searched for Root xperia S (it's the one that doesn't say gingerbread.) if that can help in any way.

So for Unlocking Bootloader You have to use fastboot mode.. ok
and after that, for rooting it should be done using flashtool in fastboot mode..
so here is the thing.. Download The Flashtool first And After extracting the files You'll Find a Folder Named Drivers.. first Install The Fastboot Drivers Even To Unlock The Bootloader..

Hi,
I can't connect my phone in flashmode nor in fastboot mode. Whenever i connect it in flashmode/fastboot mode my PC stucks(hangs) and i have to restart it again i have installed all the drivers for all devices but still the problem exists. Any help in this regards???
Also to mention i'm using Windows XP SP3 and flashtool version is 0.9.1.0.
I have also one more issue when i connect my phone to the charger when it is switched off the phone does not charge at all it simply shows me the sony logo and keeps showing it again and again but never charges. In short when my battery is complete i cannot get it back to life due to this problem but thank god that i have installed CWM on my phone.
Thanks for helping i'll also post this in the development section also.
I have no idea to your problem, but I would guess that it have something to do with you using xp, or maybe some damage on your phone.

Hello I have an Xperia S, with bootloader locked and recently installed a ROOM in order to get the 6.A.1.2.55 with root.
Installed from a ZIP from recovery mode following this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2009672
Now when I try to do step 7 (flash kernel and Baseband) Using Flashtool, Im unable to enter to the mode; when the windows prompts me, I turn off the phone, press and hold Vol up connect the USB but nothing happens, only the Sony Logo and then the icon of charging battery, I also tried to turn off the phone while holding Power button + Vol up (at the same time) and get the 3 vibrations, but the same result when I connect, the logo and the charging animations/icon..( no LED of any color or anything)
Im using the latest Flashtool version (0.9.9.0) with the drivers intalled (even though Windows security constantly pestered me about not being able to identify the source and signture) on Windows 7 64 bits..
Thank you..

If that doesnt work open PC companion it should ask u to repair it if u follow istructions.

Have you pressed the menu key while connecting phone to computer?
bricked phone have to be OFF(remove battery and put back if necesaary if it's stuck at sony screen), prepare flashtool ftf and follow onscreen instruction and the flashtool will revive the phone.
Or maybe you could show the error msg from flashtool.
you are really bold in trying the untested bootunlocker, this definitely is a hard brick. hope you get out of this one.

Sorry if we repeat the same thing, but it must work like this: you hve the phone off and unplugged. You open flashtool, select the flash icon (flashtool), select the FW, and it tell u to plug the device to pc while holdin back button.
Sure u hold the the backbutton while pluggin in? and after have selected the FW ?
You've to select the firmware first before plugging it in.

LT18i
Locked Bootloader
Root access
Had CMW via Xtools, so when I replaced the rom that disapeared!
The problem is that I've forgot to run the 2nd part - device optimization, and now the touchscreen simply doesn't work...
Can't do nothing - USB Debugging is on by default (never forget that I can't touch the phone)
Can't upload another rom via flashtool, the only thing I'm able to do is change the kernel with the 1_lt18i_4.1.B.0.431_kernelDowngrade
If I try to put the uptodate kernel, flashtool stops on "Reading Device Information"
Already try to restore it with Pc companion, but no luck
USB device is detecting LT15 on windows!
This is a total mess, I'm lost, and I've googled and tryed dozens of things all day long.. I'm tyred, exhausted, and my 2 day old ARC S is bricked!!
Can someone point me a way out??
Remember:
- USB debbug of (have no access to activate it)
- CMW disapeared when installed this rom, so have no recovery menu
- Bootloader is locked
- Can't flash rom via flashtool
I'm devastated!!
Thanks in advance,
Ricardo

Dear bjchettri
I do appreciate all your efforts
I have to explain the situation just to make things more clear because it looks like you misunderstand me
when I connect my phone (in all modes "Bootloader, Fastboot, normal, recovery..etc) nothing happens on my pc
even in device manager (i'm using Microsoft windows) the system doesn't show any item for a new attached device or an item for an defined attached driver (which used to appear all modes)
the flashtool needs the system to find an attached device to communicate with (usually the attached device name looks like "android phone", SE android or something this (depends on ur phone brand, model)
now since my system doesn't find any device when I connect my mobile then the flashtool won't be able to communicate with my device (even if i tried to boot my device in all modes "bootloader, fastboot, normal, recovery) by holding specific buttons (menu or volumn down or back buttons)
and if you read my question you will see that i was asking if anyone knows any way to connect my phone using testpoints or something like this because i though maybe I can let my pc to recognize my phone using the testpoints method.
I'm not sure but if i could make my phone recognized by the pc then i will have like 10 ways to find the problem and fix it.
Hi yazanallahham
I have the same issue, could not find any solution yet, wondering if you have fixed your fone ?

Z1C won't stay in flashmode

Ok so I've been trying to get flashtool to work with my xperia z1c but I can't get the phone to stay in flashmode. The green led lights briefly and flashtool detects a device in flashmode but after a short time it just drops out of flashmode and boots normally. I originally blamed windows 8.1 but have tried 2 windows 7 machines with the same results. Have tried the Sony z1c drivers package and the latest flashtool drivers - same result. I've searched on Google and found people with the same problem on different xperia devices but has anyone else had the same problem with their z1c? if so has anyone solved it?

So what is the problem? If the phone does not stay long enough in flashmode, try this:
Open flashtool
Click flash, and set up everything (firmware, wipe, etc.)
Now click on flash
After 30 seconds plug in your phone in flashmode.

Happened to me too. I just flashed it before it rebooted, once it starts flashing it wont reboot it'll finish the process. So no worries everything worked out fine.
Thanks for the responses. I'd previously tried to flash an ftf by putting the phone into flashmode first then pressing flash and it always rebooted before the files were prepared so assumed there was something wrong. If you prepare the files first then put the phone into flashmode then all is okay. Thanks again.

[SOLVED]Can't go into flash mode

I'm trying to flash a FTF in FlashTool but my Xperia Play(R800a) isn't going into Flash Mode it just shows "Sony Ericsson" and then it starts charging. I have installed the drivers and even Unlocked the Bootloader via the TP method.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Solution:
This is what I have to do to get into Flash Mode
(RED=What was done different, Green=What was done the same)
1.Open FlashTool
2.Select Flash Mode
3.Select Firmware (FTF)
4.Wait till FlashTool tells you to connect your phone in Flash Mode
5.Remove Battery from phone
6.Connect phone while holding Back Button(With no Battery)
7.Insert battery
8.FlashTool will start Flashing the FTF, once done Reboot and enjoy
In order for this TO WORK Steps 6 and 7 have to be done REALLY FAST
Nobody Can Help?
Okay, I was able to go into Flash Mode in PCC but I still wasn't able to do it in FlashTool. I was also able to Root my phone but that didn't help ether. I also noticed that when the phone starts Charging after I failed to go into Flash Mode it says that Debugging is Off, witch is wrong(I do have Debugging On). Its also says that Debugging is Off when I first open flash tool and then connect the phone but it does recognizance Debugging On if I first connect my phone and then open FlashTool. Is Debugging the problem???
I also want to add that I have a Xperia X8 and FlashTool work fine with it.
Any body out there that had or has a problem like me???
Try different usb cable or different usb port on PC.
Also, does your back button working when you boot into rom?
Maybe updating flashtool might help...
Don't be confused with that "debugging off" message, because you only need it when you are in normal mode. There is no point /need/purpose for debugging when phone is in flash, fastboot or charging mode (nor it is possible). Flashtool only report lack of it, but since you don't need it, just ignore it)

I tried both a different Usb Cable and different Usb Port, I also tried it on a different PC. Yes the Back Button works when the ROM is already booted(and also worked when going into Flash Mode in PCC). I also have the latest version of Flash Tool.
Any other ideas to what might the problem be???

Maybe PCC and Flashtool are in conflict. Exit PCC (right-click on systray icon). Also, kill all adb.exe processes from task manager before starting flashtool.
If that don't work, try more desparate measures: uninstall and install again drivers or PCC or flashtool...

I tried doing that at the very beginning but didn't help
Do you know if there is an ADB Command to but into Flash Mode? Because I found one for Fastboot (adb reboot fastboot) but couldn't find any thing for Flash Mode.
Btw thanks for all the help.
