[Q] Broken Screen - My Options? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi all,
Firstly - I apologise if this is in the wrong section, mods - please move if you so wish.
OK now to my dilemma. My beloved Galaxy Nexus (stock 4.2.1 yakju - locked bootloader and no root) has had its screen broken by a toddler.
The phone still powers on but no display and there's no tactile response from the screen either so I can't actually see/do anything with it! I have it plugged into my PC and have transferred my photos/documents so data is not an issue.
The handset is not insured so that is not an option either. I have seen prices quoted for around £150 (I am in England) which will replace the LCD panel and digitiser but I do not want my phone going for repair with all my accounts etc still on the phone, ideally i want to completely restore the phone to factory default, is there anyway I can do this from my PC?
I have already sourced another Galaxy Nexus from Gumtree and happily using that... my immediate thought was to replace the broken screen with the one from the working handset but then I run the risk of having two un-usable phones!
Just throwing out there to you wonderful people... is there anything I can do to wipe/control my phone from my PC?

I think if you flash a factory image from fastboot then it will also delete all your data including the accounts.

Me personally I'd try to open it and check the connections that the screen and digitiser are correct and tight I know in the UK I live here to I've got a crack on my screen and was annoyed when I got quoted 150 for a fix

Thanks for the response guys, I don't think I can even flash via adb as it would still require some screen input to get into fastboot and i just can't see anything on there - its blank.
Fury - yes i was annoyed... especially this close to christmas! no where could repair within 24 hours so decided on a secondhand phone from gumtree which seems to be working perfectly well.
If anyone has a barred or a broken Galaxy Nexus with screen intact then please get in touch

Best thing to do is throw it in the garbage as your accounts would be worth far more that what the phones worth in that condition an just get another phone.

The cost of replacing a screen is simply not worth it unless of course you do it yourself which is a delicate procedure, most ppl who get screens replaced have insurance otherwise they usually just put up with a broken screen if they can still manage to use the phone until they decide to purchase a replacement or get an upgrade on contract.

Anyone want my bricked P930?

It was about a month ago so I don't really remember what I did exactly. But I managed to get CM9, but it was really buggy. I tried to revert back to stock and screwed something up. I'm pretty sure it's hard bricked, it won't turn on but the computer makes a noise when the usb cable is plugged in.
I figure worst case scenario it could be used for parts, or someone more knowledgeable than myself might fix it. PM me if you want it. If you need it shipped somewhere you could just pay pal me.

[Q] Wanting to send my phone to MobileTechVideos

Apparently my phone was magically bricked without me even doing anything to it besides the fact that i just picked it up and went to check the news on the huffington post and it just shuts off and never came back on after that, i am planning on sending it to MobileTechVideos as due to you guy's request, but there are some question i wanna know which they havent answered since i been trying to contact them for about 4-5days with no response.
Will they send me a package to send my phone in so i can ship it to them?
Or will i have to provide it on my own?
If so, what package should i send it in?
I really need you guy's help, coming Monday will be an entire week without a phone for me, and i basically gotta use my G1 just go tether my way online, i could use my insurance and hope they don't find out i am rooted and get a new phone, but there is about 10gb of data on my internal that i want back.

[Q] how to access sms's from computer, broken screen [Solved]

Dropped my At&t S3 at work today and the screen went black... can sometimes see a few lock screen images, but it is unresponsive to touch. I'm rooted, running CM10 and believe I have usb debugging allowed on the the phone. Is there anyway for me to locate and view the SMS's that have been sent to me through my computer? Sorry if this has been covered before, I just spent the last hour searching, but was unable to find anything. Also, does what I described on my screen sound like it will need just a glass replacement, or digitizer, and LCD? Thanks for all your help.
You can get the sms database from /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases

Thanks for your help, but I was unable to find the files this way. When I access my phone through windows explorer, I open internal storage, then data and the only file I can see is a titanium backup file. Am I going about searching my phone the wrong way?
On a brighter note, I did just find a program called myphoneexplorer which gave me quick access to everything I needed, so problem solved. Now I just need to figure out how I'm going to fix my phone.

This is definitely more than just the lens (glass), everything would still work if the lens were the only problem. Although unlikely since you say sometimes you see the lock it screen it could be just a loose cable(s). The reason i say this is if it were just a bad connection you would probably get flickers more often that just the lock screen. More likely it sounds like the LED panel is blown. I feel your pain, i actually just dropped mine today and broke my lens...argh. Depending on your skill level with electronics you could attempt to disassemble the phone and check the connections. If it comes back to life and you just need to replace the lens, they range from 10 to 30 bucks. You can pick up a lens/led assembly for around 200 bucks online, or Samsung does it for 175.

That's because the data folder you accessed is actually /sdcard/data. You will have to use adb pull to get it off.

Just took it apart and tried re-securing most of the connections, but still no luck. I think I'm going to ship it off to Samsung, as that seems like the best price. Fortunately I have an old 3gs iphone that I left unlocked just in case to get me by in the mean time, unfortunately I'm back to using ios. As much as I hate apple, I have to say I dropped my 3gs hundreds if not thousands of times over the 3 years I used it, and only broke the glass once which cost less than $10 to repair. I've had this S3 for 3 weeks dropped it once and now I'm looking at close to $200 to repair it... kind of lame. That being said, now that I've gone android I could never go back.

It just really depends on where and how it lands, i've dropped all of my smartphones, some that i expected they were destroyed, you know on asphalt with pieces flying off in different directions, and managed to get a way with just a few scratches. This time my GS3 dropped no more than 36 inches onto a carpeted floor but manged to catch a sharp corner just on the edge of the screen and that was all she wrote. One of the biggest disadvantages to larger screens on our devices is more chance of the screen being damaged in a fall.

Back cover popping off near volume button..anyone else?

My back cover keeps popping off near the volume button. I can push it back in but it seems like it wants to keep popping off. Only in that one area, no where else.
Is anyone else having this issue?
Mine does that. I just called sprint cause I gotfrom telesales and they are sending me replacement.i called two days after I received it they considered it damaged in arrival but the back is so flimsy and I fear it might happen again
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah, mine's doing that too. It's really annoying so I'm glad sprint might replace it without issue. Now I'm trying to decide if it's worth the hassle...

I am surprised that the same area is affected. I would encourage you to call and at least report it so it would get on there"known problem"list . I described it in details to the representativeand told them the phone is brand new and I have no intention to go to a store to have it checked

i had that problem but i took it off and put that section back on first. I dont remember where on the phone it was but it was bugging me. I havent had a problem since, but that was only yesterday
I remember mine did that when I first got it. Not sure what I did to stop it, maybe what the last poster did. Ive had a case on mine though.

Same issue here. Got a replacement cover from Samsung coming. If it doesn't fix the issue Sprint agreed to replace my phone. I have had mine since release day but filed a formal exchange request before the 14 day period was over explaining my situation and Samsung's proposed resolution. I suggest anyone nearing their 14 day expiration to consider doing the same. I want to avoid a replacement if possible because I already set up everything exactly the way I want it, but if the new cover does nothing the phone is going back. FYI, tried a few local Sprint stores and nobody had a phone in stock to let me test the cover swap. Went to Best Buy and although they had none left the guy said he has seen this issue in a lot of the Note 2s already. He even said the 1st gen Notes suffered from a similar manufacturing defect.

I had this issue on the opposite side. It ended up being the hook/snap. I used my car key to push down the edges around the hook and boom it works like it should. I'm not sure it that will fix everyone's but it worked for me. Also the sprint store wouldn't need a regular cover. The flip cover replaces the back so it should work as well.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using Tapatalk 2
Yes. PITA too.
Think QA from Sprint and/or Samsung belongs to or reads XDA?
I have this issue too. The hook seems to have cracked..
Same thing here since day one.

i don't have the problem since i bought the samsung cover, but i believe the old touch pro 2 had that problem. to fix it we had to put a folded up piece odf paper under the case over the battery. it helped the cover keep its shape. the flexjng caused the cover to pop off. maybe it'll work for this phone too.

are you getting the cover under warranty or did you buy it?
Warranty. They're sending me a new cover free of charge and a return UPS label to give them back my old one (wonder what they're gonna do with it, lol).
---------- Post added at 04:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:23 PM ----------
I've never had that issue on my TP2, but if I recall correctly the cover on that phone wasn't nearly as flimsy and soft as the one on the Note2.
Problem SOLVED!
Guys...the back cover is very poorly designed. When I picked up my GN2 on release day at the sprint store, the girl handed me the demo model so I could see it. I noticied immediately that the back cover was loose by the volume keys. Pulled it off, saw broken hook immediately. I then insisted that I would put the back cover on myself on mine when they took it out of the box, and I never had that issue again. Unlike the GS3 which I upgraded from, which had snaps all around, this one has snaps, and also tabs on the bottom and a hook by the volume keys, which means if you put it on the same way as an S3, YOU WILL BREAK THE HOOKS/TABS! You can't just push it on. Not the users fault, as Samsung made this both extremely difficult to do, and provided no clear instructions on installation/removal. I use multiple batteries and therefore remove it about once per day, and I've had the phone since release day. Unfortunately, without redesigning the actual phone housing itself, I fear it will be impossible for Samsung to fix this by just redesigning the cover. If yours isn't broken yet, just follow my video on proper installation and removal of the back cover. If yours already broke, grab an in-warranty replacement from Samsung and follow my instructions from now on, otherwise this will keep happening. Below is a link to a quick how-to video I made.

Help screen problems...

Hey all, firstly I'd like to say that I searched everywhere and could not find a solution to my problem.
So anyways I was using the app SleepBot and there is this feature where the app helps
track your movements while you are sleeping through vibrations or something. It for some reason
turns your screen on and I suppose that is the reason this happened to my screen. I've tried a factory
reset by just randomly guesstimating where the buttoms are. But regardless it was determined it isnt
a software problem but possibly a hardware problem? The screen basically appears to be glitching out,
flickering is the images which should be displayed on the screen. In the middle there is this white line
and below it there is a white box about half an inch wide
Has anyone encountered this problem before? Is my phone done?... what steps would I have to take in
order to get a new phone.
Can't post a video atm because I don't have more than 10 posts lols... well hopefully someone can answer my questions
and I'll be able to post
If you have any questions feel free to ask =)
Yes thay sounds like faulty device. You know these things are made to work but things CAN short out break or just flat out die on you for no reason. An app wouldnt do that even after a factory restoration. Your last bet is to odin back to factory image and then if that screen problem persists get it replaced

I don't know what steps need to be taken I have never had to have anything covered by warranty or insurance. Try searching there have been discussions on this forum numerous times about warranties and such.
For your first search. Just search for warranty or insurance
