On my newly bought note 2, media server takes about 2-3 hours of battery !!!
How to disable it?

Couple things to try...
DIsable Picasa/Web Album syncing.
Also try disabling media scanner with Media Scanner Root app in the Play Store.
See if that helps.

Is there any way to separate podcast mp3s from Google music? My podcasts are infiltrating my artist list and recently played view.
I don't think so without changing the genre to podcast or something, though it won't get rid of it from the recently played list
Google does have it's own podcast app called Listen which is pretty old but works. You can dump also your already downloaded episodes to /sdcard/com.google.android.apps.listen/
Just an alternative
Is there a location I can store my podcasts where music spent search?

Put a .nomedia file in the folder where the podcasts are. You might meet to reboot afterwords.

also, if you use beyondpod there's an option to "share media miles" that's enabled by default. Unchecked it then clear user data for the media storage app and reboot/rebuild your library. Can't remember if there's an option like that on dogcatcher but ever since switching to beyondpod its the best podcast player in my opinion.

I added a blank .nomedia file using Root Explorer and rebooted, but when my feeds updated, they are all seen in Google Music.
I am using Doggcatcher at the moment.

I use doggcatcher too, and what I did was create a folder in the sd and named it .nomedia
I then moved all my podcast stuff there.
Make sure you go to doggcatcher settings and change the location of your podcasts to that location.
Next you need to go to app settings and delete all google music app data so it can rebuild it's cache and scan the sd card again.

I've seen some references to that online, but it doesn't seem to exist on my copy of BeyondPod (version 2.9.15). After going into Advanced Settings (which is hidden in a very WTF-esque manner), where it allegedly resides, there simply isn't a share podcasts / media files setting to be found.
Where do you find this beastie?

I know this is a really extreme solution but have you tried Pocket Casts? I used to be a huge fan of beyond pod also until I tried Pocket Casts. Its way more pretty and easy to use.

The thing with .nomedia files on ICS seem to work only after you clear the cache in manage apps-> all-> media storage
I switched to BeyondPod, which doesn't have this issue.
Thanks!

I second pocketcasts in terms of ease of use and appearance.
.nomedia file doesn't work with pocket casts, but creating .nomedia folder and moving podcasts there worked.

It's in 'Playlist and Widget Settings' these days.
I tried .nomedia and it didn't work for me. I use BeyondPod and PlayerPro now. It has a feature to only scan music from a certain folder.

how to Run Google Podcast without Google App?
i have disable Google App, when i try to open Google Podcast it says it requires Google App.
Please tell how to Run Google Podcast without google App.
I don't understand why. I've put other songs in there that have worked just fine, but I've added the new QOTSA songs on my phone and they won't show up in the Sense Music app. Not sure what the problem is.
mp3 tags, check that
via ttalk
Re scan your media files.

Just use any media scanning app from the playstore https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.clypher.mediascanner&hl=en
or use the media scanning feature in "Trickster MOD" if you have root access..
Happened to me a couple of days ago. Noticed that the music not showing in the library was copied over the Wi-Fi and not using USB cable. Deleted the files and copied them with USB and voalla .hope that helps.

Hi all, is there ANY WAY to significantly reduce the battery drain caused by the media server process shown in battery info dialog box. It always goes very high when I play locally stored music or video files (yeah I know this process is connected to every sound the phone makes but still it shouldn't be so high while just playing music.
Is there any music player which doesn't use media server?
(Don't mind changing the stock one if the other one has current playlist home screen widget)

Use this app. I use it for some time without any problem. You just need to add phone, sms, clock & your music player to the "ignore list" to avoid problems. Enjoy

The recommendation from mauam is great, test it, it will work.
If you choose another player, use poweramp, it has it´s own media scanner and don´t need the stock one.
You have the choice now
Thanks guys. Will try these

I tried this trick and it worked well!:good: Thanks for the tip mauam
Before when I pulled down notification menu there was the slider to adjust the brightness.I made no changes and it's gone now.
it was there in morning then i updated apps from Play Store and while updating apps my phone got restarted and when i powered ON again there were no Screen Brightness Slider.
I tried Enabling and Disabling it from Settings - Display - Notification Panel
but still didn't worked out.
Thanks for telling us

Finally got it but it's very weird,
When I found this issue I was updating my apps from play store, browsing on built-in browser and was watching video on MX player in landscape mode.
I created the same scenario and after closing MX Player, closing browser and disabling Landscape mode I got my brightness adjuster back.
I found it weird so checked it thrice, all 3 times I was able to reproduce the issue.
Now I'm not confirm what causing this issue.
1 - Play Store
2 - Browser
3 - MX Player

Try clear MX Player defaults or don't watch browser based videos on MX Player?
Yes MX was the culprit.
Watching browser based videos caused the issue

try enabling in settings, if it dont work
1.install brightness slider free,open it
2.uninstall it .
well done.
VLC
I had same problem since installing mx player.
But mx player wasn't active at the time. It was vlc player. Phone shut down whilst in horizontal mode playing vlc. So opened vlc put it horizontal then vertical then closed the program. Brightness bar came back instantly. Thanks for the clue.
Is there any way of having your music playing whilst the app is minimised.
I don't want to use split screen, just start music playlist playing, minimise it to start a run tracking app.
Any ideas please people ?

Seconded. YouTube Vanced (not the magisk module) Is the easiest and most complete method I've ever used. It's like having YT Red but better. You can force codecs, use a swipe for volume/brightness, and have the screen off playback.

I've been using Newpipe for ages and have recommended it to many people. Works great. You can use it to download audeo/video from YT as well.
