This is not important or serious. This is just ranting. But I will bite anyway.
I am I guess a rooted stock user. So I am not the ones that love to go and use lots ROMs. But I like solving problems. And it is cool that we all give our experience on the table that helps everyone. That is why I put my experience log in some of my posts. Yes, I could of waited for the new injected stock root rom. But that is not the point. It is sharing the experiences in solving the problem. The problem I worked on is root the new update without triggering the "Custom Binary Download" counter (keeping "Custom Binary Download" as "no") and keeping the "Status" as "Normal". Some see this as pointless. But for the Stock root user fans this is important. At the end we worked out the kinks and finger out how to do this without the injected method. So now we have two ways of stock rooting and keeping counter as "no" and status as "Normal".
Now I am checking out the new injected stock root rom.
Troubleshooting is an art (with science) that you need to practice to master. What better way then practice together.
My point is: It is not the destination that is important. It is the journey that is important.
When it comes to most carriers being slow in this multi-window update, I feel that they should of been faster with update. Like Verizon out the door. This problem was resolved months before releasing to the US. If you buy a product it should do what the other of the same products do, and manufacturer claims, but doesn't then you are not a happy customer. It is not the multi-window feature that was important. It is getting the whole product that was important.
And yes, there is a huge problem in the cellular carrier world with Android that the carriers causes the largest delay in the updates. As well as the carriers causes other issues with Android that we can talk about in another thread. For now I hope you have a different prospective of all this.
Wheres the question? This just sounds like its asking for flaming.
Just a RANT, but OP you might get the sparkly end of some flame, so just to save YOU the trouble and ME the reports, infractions, paperwork,...I think that I'll close this.

They'll know if your phone accepted the OTA or not. I seem to recall reading that VZW would "assume" that if your phone didn't receive the OTA that you'd be rooted, or something to that effect.

Honestly I wouldn't worry about it. Rooting just voids your warranty, so if they knew that when you try to get a warranty replacement, they may charge you full price. That's assuming they even check it. So if you're rooted and not making a warranty claim, the phone is yours, VZW will still take your money happily.
Whenever I've been in VZW stores, the reps even have theirs rooted. So I wouldn't worry about it too much bro!
Just act like nothing is wrong and keep it rooted. Seriously
Im going to. Eff them

not trolling but. i dont see how they can see if you updated or not. i mean everything on the phone is google and not VZW so i dont see how they would know. if they did know then everyone with a root phone couldn't get a replacement and i was one of them. first phone i got the speaker went out in 3 weeks. i RUU to stock and took it in and they gave me another one that day.
if you do have the link to what you read i would like to see it. (again not being a d!ck. im just wondering.

I don't have a link so I'm not exactly sure, but I saw something about how some VZW tech support could see the build # (and maybe some other things you'd see in the "about phone" menu) of the device you were talking to them on. So from there, it could be assumed you were rooted if not running a stock rom.
Again, assuming they could extrapolate that information in that specific circumstance, I don't know why they would care (aside from software-related warranty issues). Most reps I've talked to in a VZ store that had some measure of expertise in their field has a rooted phone.
I believe you have nothing to be concerned about with working for them and having a rooted phone I know a few people who work for Big Red, but they don't have their phone rooted because they just don't care for it (simple minded lol).
They will entice you to upgrade to the latest greatest new phone with your employee discount lol. But assuming you're going to stick with what you have, just don't go volunteering information unless they ask since it's no of their business.
But do be prepared to sign a buttload of nondisclosure papers that you won't share any inside information (but should hehehe).

they do, one of them pulled me out of the main floor once when i asked him about the gb update, then recommended this site
but, as far as the OTA gingerbread. don't take it, the risks outweigh the benefits.
risks
. No root for a while (months, or a year)
. Bloatware, that you can't take off, see risk #1
. no roms for a while either
to be honest, ive been running GB for a month now via gingersense, and i like it, yeah the 720p is choppy, yeah, i have other stuff.
but, i'm mainly concerned about the new radio and new kernal
so, take others advice, and just wait.
Will do. And anything i hear, ill post in general. The store im going to work at is pretty chill. I rooted and s-offed my first inc, broke mms (somehow) and they exchanged itbeven looking at the bootloader.
Your phone has now contracted phone AIDS. Shoulda used protection while rooting. LD
Hi everyone,
I made a stupid error last night and I flashed the wrong rom to my phone :S I flashed a AT&T ROM, now my phone won't turn ON at all tried all combination to go into download mode nothing happen. When I plug it to my computer it required a driver that I couldn't find. to make it worse I called T-mobile hoping that they will help me but they couldn't because I don't have a prove of purchase :S since I bought it from someone else.
Any idea what can I do ?
Yep, it's dead for good unless someone has figured out how to make/use a USB jig for the TMO SGS2... that's why we read before flashing roms.... it's never really a good idea to flash a rom from a different device anyway.
What a retarded mistake, seriously?
You go to flash a ROM but fail to even recognize that they are two totally different phones?
If you are that clueless you should not even be flashing ANYTHING

I doubt it'll come back to life without a USB jig. You can try calling T-Mobile for a replacement again and just tell them you need a warranty replacement...the person you were speaking to probably doesn't know that proof of purchase is not required. I've never had to show proof of purchase and always gotten my phones from somewhere other than tmobile, but I think that would be considered fraud in your case since its not really a mistake on the manufacturers part....
Does it boot up? if it doesn't boot at all you're golden. Just call in for a warranty replacement.

Yes, even if you do not have a proof of purchase, you can call Samsung directly and get it replaced.
Please remember this guy came here for help not to be criticized. I also know that when something like this happens, it's no fun and he's probably feeling bad enough as it is, so why add salt to injury?
Thank you for all your good replies, say what ever I'm retard or anything you want. I made a mistake ( because I didn't pay attention ). This is not the first time I flash a phone ( I flashed my previous Nexus one and flashed my HD7 ) and I previously flashed my Galaxy S II with BeastMod, I don't know how I missed it this time.
Thank you for the time that you wasted to tell me how retarded I am.
I ordered a USB jig last night and I'm waiting for it if it didn't work I'll send it to Samsung.

I can sort of understand what the OP did, I mean, it's the "even if I know it's not the right thing it's close enough and if I do it just right maybe it will work or I can make it work" thing. Haven't we all experienced this at one time or another? We learn from this stuff

I did it, not ashamed, it happens and I'm by no means new to the root and ROM game. Odin'd recovery and forgot to untick repartition. Same thing you got...Qualcomm high speed USB interface...this phone is way more sensitive in download mode than the vibrants are. After talking with some sprint tech's for a while about issues not only in my area but with the phone in general I found out that they can very very easily find out if you are rooted with a click of a button. I noticed that every single rom that I have ever used always says the name of the rom in the build number area of phone info menu. That is an easy way for sprint to see that you are rooted. Any way to change that or can't rom devs just not edit that part with the name of their rom? I know what rom I'm using, why does it need to be there?
Rom developers do that so they can ID the rom for a reason; and if you're dumb enough to bring it in rooted and the check to see your system, of course they are going to know, a five year old could tell the difference. Either put on a stock rooted rom, change the build prop, or unroot period.

+1... even if that was left totally stock named, and the rom looked like a stock sprint rom, they could still tell you were rooted... all they would have to do is look on your sd card, or look for apps that only work if your rooted such as superuser, rootuninstaller or any file explorer... take the extra minute and unroot to take your phone in.

It's usually a good idea to
1. S-On the phone
2. Flash an unrooted stock rom
3. switch SD cards
4. Uninstall or do not install any apps requiring root permissions
5. Lock your market (with an app protector)
before taking it into any Sprint Store for service.

Must be contagious around here. If I was having problems with the phone in general I would first dump the rom and go back to stock to see if it was a issue with the rom or the phone. Common sense.
It was a phone call to sprint about network issues. About towers that were not working correctly and the tech I talked to at the Kansas center over all network issues could see **ALL** history of the phones ROM. Didn't matter what rom I curently had on the phone. It gets logged into the system. PERIOD. He told me it was rooted and told me the name of the rom installed and what day it was installed. I was kind of blown away.
I didn't walk into a store and say here's my rooted phone, fix it. Never heard of anyone unrooting a phone to call in about network issues. EVER! All I'm asking is is there a simple way to change the info that the Sprint system would see when it gathers the info about the phone to avoid detection of being rooted and a non stock rom installed. That's all. I understand you have life issues and feel angry at the world and need to make an ass out of yourself but if you can not just answer simply then just don't answer.

Thats the most insane thing ive ever heard. IM almost 100% sure that sprint can't read your ROM details. In fact in order for them to even trouble shoot over the air, they would need your permission to link to your phone using the main network. So dude im kinda sure that your back pedalling a little here after some responses. For future reference try wording your ?'s so they represent your intentions or future actions. Dont get all boohoo on us when you receive a little criticism. The way you are posting gives the impression that you blindly walked into a sprint store without unrooting. Next time just tell us what needs to be done ask for some help and someone will def hook you up right.

It may sound insane to you but that doesn't change the fact that its true. I know what the guy said on the phone. He said exactly what rom I had installed. You're kind of sure? So you have no idea what you're talking about you so you assume something? Lol The way that you are posting indicates you just want to start something with someone for no reason. Stop trolling and move on to the next thread.
They don't need any permission to link to your phone. They own the rights to access your phone by way of the contract you have with them. They have every right to check the connection between the towers and the phone. By doing that info gets logged to the system about the device connected.
I talked to tech's in the Kansas center that deals with network issues. These are not standard lvl 1 tech's. This guy called me back days later and dealt with me about the towers in my area that were under performing. I gave him my signal strength at multiple locations and he would (on his end) zoom into on each location and look at what was going on at each tower. Explaining to me that the tower at my work was 1.2 miles away and at that distance I should have full signal and even rolled out a van to not only check the strength in the parking lot of my office but various spots in that towers coverage. Determining that the tower had very low strength and needed to be addressed. Also figuring out that my phone was having signal issues near my home which was in range of 5 towers. I'm not back pedaling at all. I know what I'm talking about and i have no reason to ask a question with false pretense to get an answer that would not be pertaining to my actual issue. But since you like to assume everything just assume I didn't respond to your thread and troll some where else.

Yes, most will. Unless you get some ahole (which has never happened to me). I've had hardware pieces replaced countless times in the last 18mo., and have NEVER unrooted. I do think the key, though is it's always been for hardware issues (primarily screens and cameras).
Hell, last time I took it in, I had ICS on it. Techs thought it was pretty cool.

I'm not sure I gave permission. I was speaking to the guy on the phone and he was looking into different things and asked if i had updated to the most recent OTA update. Then proceeded to tell me it looked like I was rooted and had a modded rom. That was it, he didn't ask permission to access my phone.
You said I was back pedaling and that i was boohooing. Umm ya trolling! Being harsh whatever you want to call it. I didnt come after you, you came after me.

Did you read the thread at all? You're the idiot. Only one person answered the question, Shortydoggg. Everyone else assumed I took it into a store and didn't answer anything. As stated above, you do not need to remove root. Don't be a troll. You need to get out into the real world and leave your moms basement bud.

The point i was trying to make is, what does it matter what it says? if you dont like htey way devs make their roms, maybe you should make your own. Gotta love your maturity level here. You will not get the type of assistance you require here with this type of bashing and attitude.
Nope it needs to be unrooted and s off. I kinda agree with the other guy here mate. Your
post does suggest what he says it does. And flaming people for pointing things out like is f'd up. You need to-be able to handle constructive criticism to be on xda. Peeps here have heard it all,and don't take kindly to noobs acting in such a manner trust me on this one. Restrict yourself to just simply stating what and why, and you'll always be right. Cheers mate.

Yeah my girl works for Verizon cs and she said there is no way that she can bring up someone's phone and tell if they are rooted or not.

Wow. I am astonished by the level of ungratefulness going around
thread closed before anyone gets hurt.
Yeah pretty much sums it up. I rooted my first note 2 everything was fine then all of a sudden i installed a kernel and it would take 12 hours to charge to full from fulll empty. and about 15 min to even turn on. ever since then i cracked the screen and got a replacement. kinda liking it stock. but kinda wana root it again. only thing stopping me is that i dont want anything to happen to this phone. I DUNNO WHAT TO DO. any suggestions?
I don't understand why you people think root access on a phone is some big mystical journey that must be deeply considered before undertaking on ' the path' . It's one click and it's done. Another click and it's gone. What's the big deal.
Please close this thread. Man. What in the world....
Edit. In fact you need an I phone so that you don't have to ponder these 'monumental' decisions anymore....pfft. please. I think this is a troll.

Its just i messed up my phone last time "i think" unless it was just a manufacturers defect. just wanted to know any tips people might have so it might not happen again. No need to be a douchebag.

Whether or not you should root your phone is completely up to you. If you like stock, leave it stock. You don't have to go around flashing new kernels or ROMs if you're satisfied with stock. I rooted it because I wanted tethering and unlimited multiwindows... I have the stock kernel and stock ROM but deodexed with a few mods that I like. There are a ton of awesome ROMs out there but I'm not trying to win a popularity/nerd contest as to who can make the most changes to their phones. Make your phone the way you want it and what you want out of it.
Pretty much what i'm saying is are you happy with your phone right now? what would you change about it and is it possible to do this easily?
I thought about rooting also, but I'm happy with it stock and have no issues what so ever. This is the first and only phone I've not rooted. There's always a downside to rooting, whether it be updating, bugs, whatever. I'm enjoying my phone as is with apps I don't like simply disabled.

ONLY ROOT!
Hands Down. You Have To Root.
AOKP, CMX.1, AOSP LiquidSmooth Are All Available Now.
Good Luck.
It's just that you're thread doesn't say anything. I mean it's like asking if the sky is light blue or kinda blue. I mean you could have at least had a halfway good question....bah I'm not even going any further. I quit

I personally don't see enough evidence for trolling but I think it was the literary license you took with "Solos' Long journey to finding his fate" that raised the troll alert for some. Had you merely titled it "To root, or not to root" you may have had less suspicions (but who am I to tell you how to express yourself.. some of us tend to be more or less tolerant than others & I found value in your thread)..
You may want to check out my thread as I too was exploring the "to root, or not root" debate given how remarkable the Note2 is. As I mentioned there I honestly am very happy with the all the customization available in Go Launcher over stock TW & so far satisfied with the battery life which prompted the need debate but I also think I should be able to tether wirelessly with my data allotment on occasion & check out Titanium backup & all Avast options that require root so I will likely root-update this weekend as I want zero downtime during the week. I do appreciate the stability I'm currently experiencing so if that becomes compromised I am trusting posters here that its full unroot option would enable easy reversibility. I also currently have Monthly4G™ Handset Protection but hopefully I won't ever have to use it. -Peace
I have been testing out some roms and like most of them but there is some feature that each is missing that just bugs me and I can't use the rom or the rom will be incredible bogged down and slow even without many apps installed. I don't play games, just have some websites to peruse and social network apps.
I'm on Jedi 6 . I tried Infamous, CM10 and AOPK and some others that wouldn't even boot or the lock screen was missing.
What I'm looking for is stable, doesn't have to be the latest greatest, smooth and the notifications and ringer must be linked. I can't stand having them separate and Yes i use tasker but it's a bandaid not a fix.
I know I need to test everything to find what I like but I can't, it's exhausting and I'm already tired from the few months I've had this and the voice issues I have. I really want to leave Android altogether but money wise it's not in the cards for me.
So I am asking for help, help a fellow not be insane from his phone.
Seriously ....if you don't learn up, do some reading and trouble shoot issues....you'll never be happy with any rom. A little bit of work is sometimes required.....then any rom should work great.
What we do with these phones is amazing....but we are basically "hacking" them....and there will always be glitches to smooth out. If that's not your cup of tea....Odin the stock rom, unroot and call er a day.
Good luck!

Woah, woah, woah bro did you just say iPhone. The sacred word Lol.
But bro although some of us at XDA might sound harsh at times please look at the material and the points that we are trying to bring across to you. And I think kj brought the point across perfectly. ROMs will have bugs and sometimes people aren't there to help so you will have to dig around and find things out yourself.
And if you have trouble with certain ROMs all I can say is talk to the thread maintainers of the ROMs you are running and ask them for performance enhancing suggestions.
Also make sure you are on the latest radio, and that you are doing a full wipe prior to installation.
And to answer your last question, go to settings-sounds-volumes and uncheck the link ringtones and notifications box. And you are good to go.
If my suggestions aren't working. Send me a pm and I will do everything I can to help you out.
Hit that thanks if I helped

My friend ....you seem to have missed the point of my post. Yes....you will almost always have issues. But unless you actually have a hardware issue.....they can almost always be fixed. But if you flash, have an issue....give up and flash something else....then you'll probably be happier with an iPhone. Most definitely.
Androids and rooting and using custom roms takes some work. If stock caused you issues too....then either something strange is going on or you may very well have a hardware problem.
I'm not attacking you....I'm trying to help and being realistic.
