yeah you should be able to just return it if you just got it...
sorry for my ignorance but does the gs2 have gorilla glass?
i have no idea. i doubt it because my phone was in my pocket jus like i always carry my htc sensation and that never happened.i dont think gorilla glass would crack that easy
wow! Lucky you have ins on the phone. Must have been a faulty screen.
Life happens. Did tmo swap it out?

You can't return a damaged phone. You'll have to go through insurance to exchange it and pay the deductible.. you might get them to sympathize if it has NO other damage but I'd doubt it.

GSM arena seems to think so:
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s_ii_t_mobile-4129.php
I'm not 100% sure though.
I've seen specs in numerous places that state we have gorilla glass. It feels like gorilla glass, I just came from a defy.
I've dropped my defy from 5 feet and it has sustained zero damage to the screen. I've also seen a defy slide off a lap at 3 feet and shatter.
Every piece of glass has its sweet spot. I'm sorry about your screen. It's unlikely that they'll replace it, you'll probably have to use insurance already.
Good luck!

i disagree
there are simply waaaaay to many simple ways to break the screen inside the pocket without one knowing.
it happened to me with many many different phones
since then i learned a screen protector is a must, and a hard case shell is a must
since i started that practice, i've not had another repeat of those broken screen incidents
Take a look to see if the LCD cracked our the gorilla glass. They're two separate pieces. Also if you purchased it at a corporate store it wouldn't hurt to take it in.
You can also try calling cust service and see what they suggest.

The phone is too big to go in your pocket ,cause when you sit down you are putting pressure on the thin phone and sometime the plastic flex a little will crack the glass. Not like HTC where they have metal in the back . Samsung Phones are allways built like toys.thats the reason why I don't like Samsuk.

Talked to a buddy that works for TMO corporate and he said there is a known problem on some builds of the gs2 where the LCD will have a hairline crack that will show up on it's own. In other words faulty LCD's straight from the factory. If you talk to customer care or a store they should switch it out under warranty. If they question you tell them to look in their internal system under "Known Issues" for the device. On another note he said that's the only major issue they have noted.

I do what I can...
Besides, he's clearly here just here to troll.
HTC makes such great phones, just look at the sensation..... Oh wait..
What about the Amaze you ask?
I had the Amaze for two days, and in those two days it froze on me 6 times to where I had to pull the battery and got the unexpected shutdown do you want to notify HTC message.
Six f*****g times!
On top of that, the phone was Laggy as s**t when opening the application drawer or playing 720p videos off the SD.
I'm glad I came back to the SGS2! Otherwise, I never would have known what I'd be missing out on right now if I'd stuck with the Amaze instead of carefully selecting a new SGS2 with no defects.

Definitely a legit issue. To see if is still under warranty, you need to ensure the crack stops when the screen stops. That means the crack shouldn't be on the black glass area that shows the front camera and the sensors.
Sorry to bring this one up from the dead but I am researching an issue on the SAMSUNG Galaxy Nexus where out of nowhere, I have a hairline crack under the topsheet of glass but not affecting the actual display as when looking right at the phone (like I usually do), I don't see it.
For the record, I don't wear skinny jeans. (which are ridiculous for guys).
The crack starts up top about a 1/4 off the left edge and goes diagonally down to the right and is about 1/3 from the top. Sounds like others with the SGN have the same thing.
Is what I describe similar to this? Please see the pictures over here...

I'm sorry for your crack. I've had a previous Winmo phone in my pocket, and remember a wrench gently dropping in my lap. Screen shattered. Remember there is flex in your pocket as well.
Incidentally. Have a new Motorolla Cliq2 with T-Mobile wifi calling I'll trade anyone with a SGS2 or similar that is either bricked or screen cracked.
I want to start developing but don't want to use my phone.
okay so i was at wor today, and went to go put my phone down and it fell and the screen cracked. ive dropped phones before and ive had screens break. but i dont think i was more heart brokedn when i saw the crack. i have insurance on it and paid the $100. the thing im most mad about is i have to unroot my phone and put el29 on there completely stock for a few days. anyways those of you that have dropped your phones and cracked them, how bad was it? did the screen still work? or was it just the glass like in my case. i got lucky but i still have to get a new phone. i hate cracked screens.
you dont need to unroot if your sending it back to asurion
those bastards could use the extra work in unrooting it for you
i stepped on mine and the screen spiderwebbed, but it still worked, but i was just ugly :x
The only times I've had screens crack were due to me physically crushing the device with my hands (intentionally) or throwing it at a wall/person/etc.
Broken many cell phones (especially during the clam shell era) out of pure rage.

Lol. I am constantly throwing my phone at work. I also like to hand it to someone and just when they think they have it I let it drop. I have a ballistic sg case on it. Its really fun to freak people out but I will admit the first time I dropped it my stomach dropped. Lol

Ive had many phone break before (especially the razr 1st gen). but then i got a instinct and that thing was a brick. then got a mid range phone and a week after i got it the screen cracked and i did fix it, so when i got this phone i made sure to have insurance. thanks for the replies everyone.
So what are some stupid moments that you've had with your s3 dropped it, left it somewhere etc ?

I flashed a rom for the quad-core GSIII :crying: I have no friggin' idea how I misseD that, but I hard bricked my device. Went to Radioshack around noon today, just got a call back saying I could come in and pick up my shiny new GSIII
I just noticed that a slight bump will cause my S3 to turn off. Its not even that hard. Something has to be wrong with it. I am looking at the unit now with the battery removed. The gold contact pins all look to be even with each other and all take the same amount of force to depress. The battery contacts are clean, the battery itself is in almost perfect shape, not swollen at all and fits like a glove when inside.
I think I'm going to try and tape it in to prevent it from moving, because this is ridiculous its so easy to turn it off with a bump to the side...
I have my S3 in one of those gray cases from TMO and I am constantly tossing it on the the table, couch and my bed. I have never encountered the problem you speak of. If you are still within your 14 day grace period I would return it. If not you have a 1 yr warranty from Sammy.

Yeah... A toss onto carpeted floor didn't do anything.
Do you have a case on, in particular a TPU case?
My wife has a cheap(ish) TPU case on her S3, which is always my preferred case material but I've noticed the fit is kind of tight. Since the power button sticks out a bit, i think that this causes her power button to be way over sensitive and will cause occasional inadvertent power downs.
Bring it back to the store you bought it at and have them warranty exchange it.
The rep actually does say that it is sensitive to shock, and it's normal for that to happen. I thought it was the same thing til they told me that.

2 things:
#1-- I have the OEM flip cover case. I got that with the phone. Why did it come with that instead of the stock battery cover, see #2.
#2-- I got it on Craigslist. Almost new condition, damn near perfect actually. Its been fine even since. So that being said, no warranty (right?).

Hey guys. My wife just broke her gs3. She lost it in the snow on some stairs and while looking for it it fell off the side of the stairs and dropped about 6 ft onto concrete. I have an otterbox defender case for her but no matter how much I tell her to put it om she rarely does. Needless to say, I am less than thrilled. So.... the phone turns on and the capacitive buttons light up, she can hear notifications but the screen is black. Looks fine until close inspection but then you can see a small crack under the glass (im assuming its the lcd panel.) So how can I fix this? I am fairly good at taking stuff like this apart as im always working on radios, tv's, and other electronics at work.
Search here or youtube there is a vid with step by step on replacing the gorilla glass and im not sure if that includee the digitizer or not.
My sister cracked that screen underneath too. She took it into Sprint and they said there was no way they could replace it, because its not the glass on top, its the one underneath
She had to activate her old OG EVO and is just stuck waiting for her next upgrade now.

Same thing happened to me a couple months ago, yeah Sprint said they couldn't fix it, I had to pay for a new one, even with full insurance. Honestly I'd just try searching eBay or something for a Samsung Galaxy S3 OLED panel, and YouTube for instructions. I wish you luck sir!

You would need to replace the screen and the LCD which i believe are sold seperatly but have been known to be prone to issues if you don't purchase them together that being said it will cost you around 70-80 to replace yourself and sprint WILL replace the screen you just have to pay around 100-150 for the new screen and installation

It's not the screen that's cracked, it's only the LCD (actually an OLED screen). Trust me I went to the corporate Sprint store by me in NYC and they said they could not fix it, they could only replace the front glass screen.
like everyone said its the digitizer underneith, theres a guy on you tube, name is L35505 or L3SSONS or some stuff. he does a FULL replacement i think. will help you alot. be careful, take a saterday, kick out the kids and everyone and you shouldnt have any problems
