Coming from a evo. This Samsung is no match. The screen is easily scratched, crappy 3g, an over all pos. Of course its fast and the screen is huge and pretty but that is about it.
Sell it and go back to the evo. Problem solved.

Thanks for trolling.
Reported.
I don't know how you treat your phone but I have a pretty good idea because it is an incredibly durable phone. How much are you dropping your phone and if you're that clumsy, why don't you have a durable case like Ballistic? I just don't really understand the point of your rant. The answers lie within.
How many turds have you purchased? Lol.
It's the same glass as the Evo, it's the same 3G service as the Evo (I was a launch-day-rooted-in-the-parking-lot-5-minutes-later Evo hardcore enthusiast)...the radio might not be as strong, but, I thought the same of my Evo3D...then I returned it and got back to my Evo and realized that's not the case....YMMV based on region, time of day and expections.
So, to sum it up...you left a legendary phone (The Evo4G) and had expectations through the roof. After getting this phone you decided that the same Gorilla Glass that was on your Evo4G wasn't as strong on a Samsung branded device, the Sprint 3G service that got destroyed by the Evo a year and a half ago was no longer as awesome as it was as when the Evo came out and those two factors make this the worst product ever sold for money....
oh yeah, I can't tell why, but, U MAD.
No case since October and I have no scratches. No dust under the screen, my speaker works,my volume rockers don't look like a 4yo put the phone together,my screen isn't seperating, and I pull about -5 dbm better signal than my buddies 3rd Evo. Sprint's 3g sucks....the phone has nothing to do with that.

...hahahahaha, as a launch-day Evo owner you just gave me a flashback of what the forums were like for the first month. I lucked out and got a perfect Evo that never had any of those problems and never had any single problem with any rom experimental, nightly or otherwise....nothing......but, holy crap, I remember the *****fests you just described. lol.
Very true, and most of them for the E3D launch as well....just add in crooked screens, yellow screens, broken battery covers and "won't turn back on"....
never owned a htc phone. never have. Never will. and always rock samsung. Even Google agrees there top of the line.

hmmm, its very hard to scratch glass (why do you think people take keys to their phone and people remove window tint with razors)
So obviously you're a troll because unless you're keeping diamonds in your pockets that screen isn't scratching
The OG evo is a great phone btw, I loved it after I got my 2nd one due to glass separation. Mine took a large beating of drops and what not the only this g wrong g with it after a year was a few nicks and the battery was horrid. This phone is nicer in almost every way. People complain about the plastic chassis but its so well put together it doesn't matter. Plus plastic is lighter and flexible

I know you're a troll but I'll bite. I had the EVO myself and while it was a good phone, that phone is a MUCH bigger POS than the E4GT and it's not even close. Light leaking, phone cracking near the power button, and the phone looks like it is almost about to splitting in half! I barely had the phone for a year and I baby my phones (never dropped it once).
The E4GT is a much better phone in EVERY single way and it is not even close.
You know how many defects and cracked screens the evo suffers from? I would know as a sprint tech see it all.

Evo4g is a dinosaur turd.
Well I own an evo and its far from a pos, yet it is getting old. That being said I came over to this forum to ask what's the average battery life is for the e4gt before root and after root with applied tweaks or scripts. I was thinking of picking one up in the next week or two. I just don't see my self waiting a whole other year until my upgrade. Anyway thanks in advance.

Well....yes and no.
As long as you have something on the Mohs scale that is harder than what is doing the scratching you will be fine. Gorilla glass is impervious to damage from pretty much everything except diamonds and sand.
Sand.
SAND.
If you have no screen protector and dusty pockets you will eventually scratch your gorilla glass. Silica is harder than gorilla glass...it will tear it to shreds. I have a friend with a Droid Incredible....Gorilla Glass....plays a lot of volleyball. It took him, oh, 2 weeks? Tops? Maybe not even that long....the phone looked years old. Keys? sure, scratch the fnck out of your screen with keys....metal is always going to be softer than glass.
Any One ever think that the e4gt is the love child of the evo 4g, galaxy nexus and epic 4g?
Just sayin.

i never dropped my EVO
technically speaking, I've never dropped it. But I've bent over and had it fallout of my vest pocket. I've had the usb cord check on my jacket and watch it hit the ground. The pocket fall cause the most damage, with deep scratches to two corners. No problems to the screen, but I have the InvisiShield on it.
To me, as long as the screen isn't messed up and the phone works right, I'm ok with some wear and tear. And I can care less about a batter cover, easily replaced.
i drop it all the time, cracked the screen only 2 times tho.
my evo has MANY battle scars of white paint chipped away that is now orange
I got my EVO ASAP, 3 days later it was sitting on my lap, I get out of the car phone hits the pavement and screens smashed ...Insurance said phone was too new, they didn't have any and I was forced to outright buy another EVO....2 evos, 5 days

Sadly I dropped mines a few times but It's all good no protection any kind haha
I've dropped mine a hundred times, but never shattered or scratched the screen. I don't use a case or screen protector, so I have quite a few scratches on the corners. It still works though, so I'm happy.
You do deserve a reward, I can't go more than a week or two without dropping it on a solid surface.
So....
I've NEVER dropped any of my phones, ever, as long as I've had cell phones. Well, dropped and it actually hit the ground. I've dropped this damn phone like 4x already, I think partially to do with it being so smooth and "slippery" to the hand.
Anyway, I dropped it once from about 6 feet in the air directly on the screen and NOTHING happened at all (except some very very minor dings to the frame itself) and light scratches to the screen protector. Today, I was trying to pull it out of my pocket at work when it slipped and fell (from about 2 feet from the ground) landing on the right side of the phone. My right hand (phone sits in right pocket) is in a brace due to a stress fracture I received at work, so when it slipped I couldn't catch it. I watched it fall, which was the worst moment ever lol. Since my work pants have slanted pockets, it fell behind me so I couldn't even attempt to put my foot under it to stop the impact.
Anyway, as I picked it up I honestly didn't expect to see anything. I pick it up, turn it over and it looks like there is a piece of hair right along the frame in the shape of a sideways "U". I went to brush it off and realized it had cracked!
It's a very small and almost non noticeable crack JUST before the digitalizer starts but I know it's there so it bothers me. I showed a few guys at work and nobody noticed it until I pointed it out.
Anyway, think its worth looking into getting fixed or just stick it out because it's so minor?
*sorry picture is so crappy, wife has a Lumia 710...camera sucks.

I have to agree though, if its doable for you, get it fixed. Once compromised like that its just gonna get worse most likely. Even just setting it down or bumping into something while its in your pocket could make it much worse.

Why mine is in an otter box ^-^
But I personally would just throw a case on it to prevent further cracking. Doesn't look too horrible from your picture. But as others already mentioned, it will crack even more easily since it's already started.
That's a known issue with the s 3. The screen is lifted a hair from the bezel. So the bezel bends into the glass at the edge (weakest point in glass) where other devices usually bend over the glass.
But good luck to whatever you decide!
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah it's not bad at all. And remember you can replace just the glass too. But i would wait for it to be more messed up before doing that
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Slap a good case on it and it should be fine for now at least.
Let's just hope that you don't drop it again to further increase the cracking.
An OtterBox Defender Case might be a good idea.
Very bulky, kind of pricey, but it will offer you the protection that you need.
Personally id be worried about further damage as is. Obviously the glass is weakened already, and while it may seem ok to wait until its worse before fixing, i have to disagree as im pretty sure this also makes the digitizer more vulnerable to damage as well.
How often have you seen or heard about devices that had a cracked screen causing the touch capabilities to break as well? One more drop or bump into the corner of a table where that crack is and you may not get anymore response at all.
I just think it potentially could turn into a much more expensive repair if not taken care of soon. Just not sure id personally want to risk it.
Its just my opinion is all.

red you could just take it to tmo? or call Samsung it has to be under warranty but hey they'll do it and no screws up guaranteed. ad it will cost more than a do it your self. i saw somewhere that Verizon did for 100 with insurance, i assume tmo would close to that
Radio Shack has a service to replace your screen for $100. You would be without your phone for a couple of days, however.
I highly recommend the Otterbox Defender, and put all of my phones in one.
In March, while doing some climbing, I fell about 30 ft then tumbled down the side of a mountain. I had a Droid X in my pocket (in it's Defender), and the only damage to the phone was to the camera lens. Everything else about the phone was groovy. I was not in such great shape, as this was in the Arizona desert mountains, so there was no cushy landing whatsoever.
Defender FTW!

Sorry, i guess i just assumed we were talking about going by one of the diy guides i saw here not long ago. Pretty sure they had instructions for replacing only the glass, but anyway, if you have the full protection plan then it doesnt matter how bad its damaged. Ok, i gotcha. I could be wrong but if you have the full protection plan i was under the impression that you could pretty much do anything and get a replacement. So if im right you can attempt the fix diy style and if unsuccessful then get it replaced. I would double check me on that though!

Yeah, I was considering the DIY route (its like $25 on eBay but you have to break your screen off basically which scares the sh*t out of me).
I do have the full insurance. I may have to go to T-Mobile just to see how much it would cost. I don't have the extra money, just got my car out of the shop. If anything, if the insurance covers it and isn't very much, I could just tough it out until it gets worse (if it does) and THEN take it in to the store for work.

Last words?
When you buy this phone, get a case. There were no cases available when i bought phone, went to radio shack a month later after their 'we have every case for every phone' commercial, they had no case for this phone, was going to get one later today at the sprint kiosk... not anymore. Goodbye Optimus G ;(
You throw things in arguments?
That really sucks man. Sorry to hear it.
Drop results are very hit and miss with this phone it seems. Most people seem to have very good results, but when it breaks, the danged thing BREAKS. Hope you had insurance or some other measure to get a new one soon.
I wouldn't throw this phone even if somebody paid me money to buy 2 of them afterwards. Glad I don't rage like that.
Bought an Otterbox Commuter from Amazon the day I got my phone. Dropped it tons of times, still good as new.
Drop is when you "drop" something and it is pulled by the gravitation.
Throw is when you use force to push something at something.
When you "drop" something 3-4 feet, it will have about the same impact, considering equivalent weight. The resulting impact is affected by only the weight, the distance and the gravitational force. 3-4 feet drop will have a similar impact when using similar weight.
When you throw something, the distance is affecting the impact in a lot lesser matter. The main item affecting the impact is then the force in which it was thrown, so saying your phone is broken “because” of a 3-4 feet drop is a misdirection. The thing that broke your phone is the force you applied when you threw it.
All that to say, get a stress ball dude!

So far, so good. No case, and I've had it about a month. No scratches, scuffs, or anything.
Mine developed a pretty nasty scratch on the screen--how, I don't know. I can feel it with my fingertip too, which is quite annoying.
I've had mine about 6 months or so, and I've been using it without any case or screen protector. Dropped it many times, even on concrete. Just few scratches on bezel. Nothing on the screen.
Had mine close to a year now. Bought a case, rarely use it. Dropped it hard on icy cement from a standing position. Which an iPad user found hilarious mimicking the "Droid" startup sound immediately. Picked up the phone, worried, looked at it and it virtually smiled at me. Not a scratch anywhere. Not on the back, not on the screen, and none on the corners.

I have a case but rarely use it since it makes it feel bulky in my pocket. I have dropped it many times and really the only scratches on the bezel are there because I keep my phone in the same pocket as my keys.
No case, but I do have a screen protector. had first drop today off desk and onto one of the legs of my chair, but the cracking sound I heard seemed to be the chair. Phone came out unharmed
I have a barely there case along with generic screen saver and mine looks like the day I got it (not a single scratch or blemish). I have dropped it about 10 times and NOTHING. bought mine used btw and it was flawless when I received it. By far the most durable phone I've had so far. Motorola phones in general seem well built.

Dropped onto foot then kicked across uneven concrete sidewalk, leading to small scuffs on back bezel corners. Once smacked it into the rim of a glass, causing a small dent in the bezel. Other than that it's been good.

I'm somewhat of an idiot and decided to test how water proof it was. Fully submerged it seems it could stay there for some time and not be damaged

Yeah, I accidentally knocked mine into the bathroom sink full of water. The micr-sd card was already on its last legs and the water finished it off. And the external speaker wasn't as loud as normal for about a day and a half until it completely dried out. But it works fine now and the sd card was replaced by sandisk's warranty.
I've dropped mine an innumerable number of times on concrete with no damage to usability. My OCD hates the scratches on the bevel, but nothing on the screen or elsewhere. The worst I've had is the bottom part of the case came loose one time when I really, really hit it hard on the ground. Still going fine...
Dropped mine taking out of my pocket, cracked the back glass thing. Then dropped in water sink for a sec accidentally, phone wouldn't work for about a day, now it's fine though. Just not waterproof anymore

too tough
Some time back I was driving a 1994 Cadillac, disgusted with how my conversation had gone, i threw my Iphone4S on to my dashboard, where it bounced and hit the windshield, and shattered the phone beyond useability.... that's what put me in the market for a new phone.
Grabbed a Razr M, and in short time history repeats itself....threw it against the dash, into the glass....the Razr M spidered the windshield....... happy to know I can replace a windshield in a 2006 Dodge Ram for $155, that still $44 less than the deductible for the Iphone4s.

How about this one? This happened the 1st day I had the phone. I was roofing house and the phone accidently slipped out of my hand. I watched it slide down the roof and disappear over the edge then I heard it hit the concrete walkway 2 stories below. I didn't even bother to look at it or let alone want to go pick up the pieces as I figured it was destroyed. 2 of my workers saw the whole thing happen and kept busting me about killing my new phone in less than a day. A couple minutes later I heard a phone ringing and yelled for someone to answer it. The other 2 guys on the roof with me both responded that it wasn't their phone. It took a while for it to dawn on me that it was my phone I had just dropped ringing on the ground below so I decided to investigate. I climbed down the ladder and was amazed to find the phone in one piece with the screen side up. I picked it up hit the power button and was shocked when the screen turned on and had no cracks. I have no idea how the phone actually impacted the concrete after falling off the roof but the only damage was some scrapes on the bezel. I consider the build quality and design of this phone to be amazing especially compared to a friends S3 which didn't survive a fall from a kitchen counter after being swatted by his cat.
Great story! However, in this one, the cat is the Legend!

So I've finally had an incident the old lady and I we're in the midst of a fight and she throws out there you love your phone more than me so to prove a point I throw it at the wall pretty much as hard as I can and of course it goes to the wall unlike other phones which have shattered into pieces.... thinking the worst I'm like oh well... patch up the hole and forget about it... I get home later that day and she meets me at the door saying that we have mice in the wall... I knew when she said that what it was... I tell her to call my phone and sure enough the rattle in the wall she had been hearing was my phone... I cut it out and nothing but some dry wall on the corner... after a vigorous scrub you can't even tell....
