I've seen around that people were complaining about not having the option to turn off the camera shutter sound, and I was also annoyed by that shutter sound so I did some digging and found a quick and easy way to shut that camera up.
You need to be rooted to do this!
Step1: Download and open any root browser.
(Here I am Using Root Explorer, ES File Manager Works also)
Step2: Go to System

Or you could just delete camera_click.ogg out of system/media/audio
But if you do it this way, does it still make the sound if the ringer is on?

Yea your correct that's another way of doing it. This one is quickly reversible tho.

Of course. I also looked around for camera_click.ogg insystem/media/audio and I could not find it.
Not sure why this works for some but not all. Sounds like the poster above me is on the right track. There are four camera sound choices in the camera. Removing them from the apk is almost sure to work.

you guys using the build prop mod? There's no need to mess with sound files, the line in build prop forces the sound of camera on or off. 0 = off

this mod works beautifully, Thanks shark.
When the sound is on I get the shutter sound, when I put the phone on vibrate or silent I get no sound. Its the best of both worlds.
Awesome mod. Thanks
You know what it might be, someone test this, I forgot in sound settings there is an option for system sounds try setting it all the way down and everything else up and see what happens.

After further testing here are my results.
The camera sound is off when the "Touch feedback and system volume" is turned all the way down. Otherwise, the sound is on.

Did you also reset the permissions on your build prop to rw-r-r? The deletion of the file for the shutter sound is actually in system/media/audio/ui. After resetting the permissions, you should see a new file created titled "build.prop.bak." I completely screwed up the paragraph structure in this one...

I may be wrong about the build.prop.bak thing now that I think about it. Mine isn't there, but then again, neither is my shutter sound

Hey everyone! I'm new to Android, and I have a little problem.
I tried to change the lock/unlock sounds in system/media/audio/ui to iPhone lock/unlock sounds. On a different website, someone uploaded the .ogg's to replace the stock sounds. I did all this and lock sound is fine but the unlock sound is a bit weird. It still does the stock bubbly/watery sound THEN my custom sound comes up.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks to everyone in advance!

The site i downloaded them from already had them named to lock.ogg and unlock.ogg
Hey guys! I think I found the problem! (gosh im an idiot) So you know I noticed that the lock sound works fine but for the unlock sound, the water sound goes first THEN the iphone unlock sound comes.
Soooo I slowly moved my finger on the screen and noticed it makes water sounds just for me touching the screen. (again im an idiot)
So now i know that THIS water sound has nothing to do with unlock.ogg. It must be a seperate file.
And now a new problem: where is that file? Anyone know?
Again guys, thanks so much for your help!
Ah ok I found the source of the problem. In settings you can disable the water ripple effect which also gets rid of the sound. But I LOVE the ripple effect. Anyone know how to remove the sound?

it's there a way to trick apps to think this phone is a tablet?

you can change the build.prop lines that say ro.sf.lcd_density to whatever you you want. 160 is wayyy too small and the status bar will FC on you. I'm trying 240 right now. Everything seems good so far, but this may cause issues with apps or the Play Store down the road.
You must be rooted to change these values. Also, there are 2 places that you have to change this value. Why? No idea. There shouldn't need to be more than 1 entry for LCD density in the build.prop. so change both, save, and reboot.

Yes, that's part of it. Apps read off that, Play Store uses the "fingerprint" in build.prop as well
I'd like to revisit this question. I used Titanium Backup to get a copy of the apk from my tablet. Any suggestions on how to get the Note II to take the apk? Is there a setting on the phone that I can change or do I need to modify the apk?
Thanks

The DPI change really turns this phone from great to amazing.
Here is a walkthrough on how to change the dpi: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1993530
Keep in mind that it will mess some of your stock apps up since they aren't made for the resolution. You can either install other programs to use in place of the stock ones or you can flash these resized stock ones: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2001143
Good luck on it and be sure to nandroid backup before you do anything. Also be sure to hit the "thanks" button to the OP's on those links. Without them, our phones wouldn't nearly look as good =)

Is there a way to do this without root because uh, I don't want to sound like a noob but I have a zoppo zp998 and its a Chinese phone, and other is no help out there to root it because not many people know what they are. I can't work out how to do it myself because in recovery mode everything is written in Chinese. The screen is 5.5" and I think this tricking it into thinking it's a tablet would be a great way to get full use out of the screen, problem it is I also can't flash a ROM or boot a tablet kernel because of the whole Chinese thing..
Guys this is basically me taking this AT&T GS3 thread and converting it to T-Mobile. I flashed and followed the OP of the thread and had FCs. If you already did your own homework on this please don't feel like I am trying to be a know-it-all - just wanted to save some people a little time here using the GS3 T-Mobile.
You need to be rooted obviously
You can download the GNote II camera, gallery, and best group pose HERE but after flashing and installing the group pose, i still had issues. I am running Stock JB
-------------------------------------
Here is what I did:
1. Use a root browser and go into /system/app and rename SecGallery2.apk to SecGallery2.apk.bak and rename SecGallery2.odex to SecGallery2.odex.bak (so you can revert if you want)
2. Flash Camera and Gallery zip from CWM
3. Reboot
[Note] some people have had to flash twice before the GNote II camera installs.
4. Put BestGroupPose.apk in /system/app and change permissions to rw-r--r--
(These permissions ) View attachment 1578546
5. Reboot (at this point everything worked except Best Group Pose, it force closed on me.)
6. In /system/app, click on the BestGroupPose.apk and select install
7. Navigate to /sdcard/DCIM and delete the .thumnails folder, and clear Gallery / Camera data
8. Reboot
-------------------------------------
Done. I know these steps seems superfluous but this is what i did and I am not a developer so don't feel like attempting to shorten the steps. Everything now works for me including video Slow Motion and Best Group Pose

You should add that you should also backup the existing SamsungCamera.apk as a bak file. It was the only way to have the Note Camera install successfully for me. It couldn't install/overwrite otherwise.
Also clear your Gallery data if after performing the steps the Picasa part of the gallery doesn't load.

Thanks for trying to help. After several re-flashes and deleting everything I finally got it to work again.
For some reason I can't seem to be able to get rid of the heat when using the app. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

To clarify, tap on shortcuts itself. Touchwiz has a bad habit of not letting you know that to reach settings for an option, you gotta tap on the name of the option itself.
First time I tried to hotspot, it took me nearly half an hour to find the settings because I didn't know I had to tap on hotspot and tethering. Extremely frustrating.

From everything I've read it can be done by going to root explorer - system/usr/keylayout then opening sec_key.kl as a text file and deleting "WAKE" from the corresponding line and rebooting. However, I don't have a sec_key.kl file so I don't know what to do once I get to keylayout.

CRT off effect was introduced in the Android 2.3 branch and is one of the most loved feature of Android.
The effect is very smooth in 4.1.2 (Jellybean). The 4.2.x update screws the effect making it very fast to be enjoyable and takes a second or near about to respond.
Fortunately, after searching previous Nexus devices threads and testing various .prop additions, the one below works wonders.
Makes it smooth as the 4.1.x effect.
Before instructions, please make a backup of your current ROM and the build.prop file
Instructions :
Root required to do this.
1. Download any Root explorer from the Play Store, preferably https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.speedsoftware.explorer
2. Open it, grant SU access and navigate to /system.
3. Navigate to build.prop and long press and click 'Open in Text Editor'.
4. Add this line "debug.sf.electron_frames=1".
Of course without the " " marks
5. Save and Exit.
6. Reboot your device and Voila.
Enjoy your smooth CRT off effect.
Thank you.
I'm on CM10.1 by the way.

Yes, the update will fail due to the file not being original.

You can always restore your original build.prop file.

What I would actually like it's a way to turn off CRT. Guess I'm one of the oddballs. I can't find a setting in PA v3.10 to turn it off. Anyone got a tip on this.

You need to change your Animation Transition to "Off". Its in the developer settings.

Lol no, this fix is about making it smooth and reproducing actual CRT off effect like in previous Android builds.
Unfortunately, setting animations to off worked in 4.1.x builds. It no longer works in 4.2.x builds.
Still, i'll look into policy.jar file to completely shut it off.

To turn off CRT, you have to Reboot AFTER turning transition animations to 0 or off
