[Q]Ripping Movies to Phone - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

How can I put movies on my phone for free. I've tried numerous programs, 10 alone tonight, and everyone either prompted me to pay or gave me an error(HandBrake). Any Ideas?

The way i put movies on my phone is just drag and drop lol, it's that easy, why rip or use a program to convert when you can just drag and drop movie into your sd card or internal storage? BSPlayer can play nearly every video format out there. So your question confuses me, i don't know if your asking "Where to get movies" or "How to put them on your phone" I get movies from scene sites.

I have the DVDs.

I haven't copied movies over to my micro sd phone i'm sure it's not that difficult to do.

Torrents... save on any computer then plug your phone in and put them in a folder ON YOUR SD. (im not saying I do that......but it works....... -.- ) DONT JUDGE ME!!!

You could either drag and drop, use Kies software made by Samsung or use an app like Air Droid to wirelessly transfer any files.

Did you just upgrade to a smartphone or are you an ex IPhone owner?

If you haven't ripped the DVDs, use DVD Decrypter. Then, to put the files in the format your prefer (or any that works on your phone) use Any Video Converter.

Ripping movies
I am curious too. I had some luck once before with this, but I can't quite remember how I did it. I think what he was originally asking is, how do you make a digital copy of a movie from a DVD that you can simply place on the SD card and the phone will be able to play. Most downloadable programs will only give you minimal features unless you pay like $40. By minimal, I mean 10 minute recordings or so. Are there any reliable, free software choices that would make this possible? Usually, copy protection is the hangup, even if you own the DVD, you can't make a playable copy.

Wouldn't that still leave them seperated into AUDIO and VIDEO files?

Yea, basically.

simple answer
It's simple!
Rip your DVD's to your computer (it's faster) then, copy it to your external SDcard on the phone using kies or just the usb cable.
I have 16 avi movies I downloaded onto my computer and just copied to a 64gb Class10 sd card. Fast and EASY!

Best Program?

What OS are you on? For Mac I used handbrake to resize (unneeded now) and jack the ripper to rip. PC I'm not sure..
---------- Post added at 12:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:33 PM ----------
Try Freemake video converter. I've used it a lot to convert video files but never rip a DVD. It will hopefully work.

For PC (and Mac) I've been following this guide for using Handbrake for both my tablet and phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1184002

Kindle app+.PRC(mobipocket)=Pure win!

I have been trying to find a decent way to read my collection of .PRC ebooks. I have buckets of these from over the years using mobipocket on both old windows mobile devices and my n95's.
Well I stumbled on a simple solution which really excited me - please forgive me if this has been posted before, I might have missed it and been struggling needlessly!
Install the amazon kindle app
Oh I love amazon.
Not only can you buy all new books through the app, which works very well. (I Bought an Ian M Banks book I didnt have for like a godiver or something) but you can copy your old PRC files into the kindle folder (it gets created after install..)
Launch the app, then they magically appear in your book list!
Whoop!
I am staggered! - I wonder how many I can put in there before it crashes.......?
Ahh nice find. I've been converting them to epub, slow but works with adiko. Amazon did buy Mobipocket out ages ago and heard they was going to kill it off. Guess they didn't, thank god.

YESSS!!! thank you for sharing! i was trying so hard to figure it out! it doesnt do the kindle azw format tho. but hey This is GREAT!
I have installed Kindle, but i don't find the kindle folder...
Folder:
It may be that you need to actually get a book first, I wouldnt have thought so though. I would recommend actually manually creating this folder on the root of your internal SD.
So plug it in via USB - select Mass storage mode - mount dem discs
Then manually create the folder on the first drive that apears, should be internal.

Hi, I've tried the trick, but it seems that it doesn't work for all prc files. I have some médical ebooks with a search feature in them, and kindle doesn't recognize them although they appear in the list after copying them into the right folder.

I found it once but am not exactly sure where. I believe its in one of the .samsung folders but (and I'm just saying here not accusing) if you plan moving it to share it, its a bust. It has DRM and in a format I've never heard of before .pyv too bad it wasn't like the HD2 with the DRM TF movies.

For you linux users out there.

Nothing we didn't know but. I was so dissapointed I wrote samsung to tell them UNACCEPTABLE. As I'm sure you know . Samsungs mtp mass storage doesn't interface with linux. I was reading some fixes and I atleast got the drives to mount from the phone installing MTP libs but any transfer too or from results in error. So I just wanted to share samsungs response. Basically.... " Sorry pal . we doubt were ever going to fix this . Pound sand "
"Dear Joseph,
Thank you for your inquiry. We understand that you can't connect your Samsung phone in a computer running with Linux Operating System. We apologize for the inconvenience that this may have caused you.
Samsung doesn't have a configurable option to connect a Samsung Device to a Linux computer. The process for the mass storage settings is tested to work only with Microsoft Windows and Macintosh computer. We apologize for the inconvenience that this may present.
We are unable to speculate when/if a software revision with this feature might be available due to the fact that this might lead to inaccurate information and confusion.
Thank you again for your comments, understanding and patience.

Found and installed filezilla but the swiFTP Isnt compatible with my note play says
Sorry, I can't even find it on the play store. I just restored it from a TB I had on my GNEX.
Try searching XDA for an official apk of swiFTP or try another ftp app on the play store. I saw a couple highly rated ones that are free.

[Q] ExtSD hide

Is it possible to hide files on the external SD card from certain apps? Primarily video player and photo gallery. I've got little kids in the household that I don't want seeing certain things, if you catch my drift. I searched and couldn't find any way to hide the SD card from those apps, so as soon as you open the app kid-inappropriate thumbnails pop up. If possible I'd like to make those apps not scan the SD card so Iddon't have to worry about letting the kiddos play with the phone. Is this possible?
I'm running Jedi X6.1.2 ROM. Any help or advice is much appreciated.

smh.. lol anyways:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.droida.nomedia&hl=en
I have never used an app to hide files from apps. I usually just put a ".nomedia" file in the folder in question. That makes it so no apps except a file explorer can see it.
However, it may be easier to keep track of by using that app. (actually WAY easier)
it looks like the app marks the hidden folder in red so you know which ones are being hidden. That feature alone is enough to make it better than adding a .nomedia
That app puts a .nomedia file into the folders that you select to "hide." Works perfectly! Thanks!

[Q] Windows 7 Not Seeing Hidden Files/Folders

Have had my Note II for a couple of days now. When I connect my phone to my computer and go into Windows Explorer I can see the "Card" and the "phone" and I can see files and folders on both. What I cannot see is any hidden folders/files (i.e. those that begin with a period).
I was able to see hidden folders on my old Galaxy S under Windows, but not the Note 2 for some reason.
I can, however, see the hidden files using "File Manager" from the google play store.
I have tried reinstaling the drivers (v1.5.14 and v1.5.16) several times. No help.
Have tried turing debug mode on and installing drivers. Nope.
Tried turning debug mode off and installing drivers. Nada.
Obviously, I am missing something somewhere. Any hints?
turn on view hidden folders in win 7
It's on. If I take the SD card out of my phone and put it in the pc, launch Explorer, the hidden (.) files and folders show up just fine.
If I put the SD card back in the phone, connect the phone to the computer, launch Explorer, I cant see the hidden files.
why do you need to see them natively in the phone?
there is nothing there that you should need to mess with...
Do you suppose it might be that the phone is not rooted?
yes, that is probably why..but, once again, what are you looking for that you need to see in the hidden folders/files?
Have a couple of directories on my SD card that I dont want scanned for photos/music,etc. Have a .nomedia file in those directories (I think) but they are still showing up in my pictures on my phone. Also, I have a directory from my old phone (.Fav.Apps and .eMail.History) that I wanted to be able to get to from my PC. I wound up just renaming the .Fav.Apps to _Fav_Apps and .eMail.History to _eMail_History which allowed me to see the directories. But still cant see the .nomedia files. Guess I'll just root the phone with ChainFires root and see what happens. Thanks.

Seriously guys, do you even understand the problem/question OP asking at all?
"Download winrar....
Then use it's interface to see any files you want ..." - WHAT??? WinRAR won't even see the phone at all!
You remind me of phone tech support who uses cards to "give support" and have no clue what you talking about.
By default THE PHONE doesn't show all the files because it connected as media server (MTP or PTP), that's why it might requires a driver, unlike usb mass storage type that doesn't.
If you need see all files you'll need another program such as Droid Explorer on computer or usb mass storage app on phone. Neither of them is perfect, the app for example only allows mount SD card, but not internal storage.
I got the files needed. I zipped the folder with the files i needed then transferred the zip file to my other phone and it worked.

Ok, I admit, I was harsh and yes, you can use WinRAR to view WINDOWS hidden files, and only on mass storage devices, which by the way I don't see where this topic switched directly to mass storage as you trying to claim it has)
However you seem to fail understand the difference between windows hidden files and android as what the OP is having problems with. They are different things in most cases and WindRAR would not help at all, especially if you use your phone to see the files, not a card reader.
