Heating up & battery draining fast - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I just brought the phone brand-new about on Thursday & the phone heats up & loses battery quite quickly once I used it a good bit. I read somewhere on xda that this is normal on all new Androids and after a couple full battery cycles, it should go away. Anything else I should do?

Just get a replacement, that is if you bought it from the Tmo store. This should be pretty normal anyways but if you could replace the battery then you should

I experienced the same issue when I bought my phone from the store, battery would heat up and drain very quickly while not using the phone at all.
I when back to store and they exchanged battery and problem went away.

my 1st GSIII was defective(phone HOT while off)

Just an FYI,
My 1st sprint GSIII was fine for the 1st month. I could get upto 3 1/2 days of battery with very light usage (mostly standby time). NOt sure what caused what happened next but the phone became extremely warm and the battery life dropped to approx. 2 hours. The phone was very warm even while off for hours!! And it obviously got even hotter while on the charger. The only way to get the phone to return to room temp was to pull the battery and leave it out for a few hours. Turning wifi/data/sync/GPS etc. off did nothing. The odd thing was, the battery was a normal temp. The heat came from the lower part of the phone (where the processor is). It also gave incorrect battery readings. While plugged in it would read "100%" and "charging" the LED stayed red, never turning green. I also could pull the battery and put it right back in and it would read 20-30 % difference VS. when I took it out.
The phone was swapped at a sprint store covered by insurance.
The only thing i did differently usage wise was link the phone to my dropbox account. It seemed to sync normally so i can't confirm dropbox caused the issue. I just can't figure out what the phone was "doing" while it was off. Just thought i'd share the story with the phone. The new 1 is running fine.
I found this today. Appears to be helpful with heating up and improved battery life.

This doesn't sound good at all. My cousin's GII on AT&T did something similar to this. The phone would be completely turned off and it would vibrate every 10 minutes. Even pulling out the battery and reinstering it made it automatically turn back on and vibrate again and again.
Hopefully this is an isolated issue what you are talking about.

My phone has gotten hot ever since I got it, but it will cool down when I stop using it. I am getting horrible battery life even witha 4300 mah battery. today it wouldnt even last 11 hours. It had 3 hours total usage time on it. I am now trying another 4300 mah battery to see if that is the problem or if its the phone. my reg battery wont last me very long either. I am also using juice defender free version and advanced task killer plus the built in task killer and I cannot get my phone to last very long. With my orig Evo I had the sprint extended battery (2500? mah) and it last me til bedtime with 50% left.
The only time this happened to me was when an badly behaving app "ran away". I would get really bad battery usage at the same time. I could cure it by clearing ram, which shut down all the running apps. Since this hasn't happened to me in a while I'm guessing that whatever app was doing that to my phone has been updated to fix the bug.
My issue was very odd. My phone was normal lasting up to 3 days with very light usage. It would sit for hours at "room temp"..the only thing i did differently was link it to my dropbox accnt. It seemed to sync ok..it was shortly after that i noticed the phone was very warm towards the lower 1/3 of the phone. I thought maybe there was something running or taxing the processor. So after working on it for a few days(turning everything off i.e. wifi/gps/data/sync/etc etc.) the battery got worse and worse. I then unlinked dropbox, stopped all running apps and let the phone sit in airplane mode over night. Still no joy. So i turned the phone off and let it sit for about 6 hours. It was still "very warm" while off!! At that point I pulled the battery for about 2 hours and the phone returned to normal temp. What could the phone be doing while turned off for hours?
The phone was stock and updated. I use an airrave so i dont have signal issues. The processor seemed to be running at full load even while the phone was off. The battery life went from around 3 days to not even 2 hours. The phone did seem to have the known "cell standby" issue(where the counter is reporting an incorrect usage %). While charging, the phone was even hotter to the point of me thinking it would burst. Oddly enough, the battery was at a normal temp. It was no where near the temp of the bottom of the phone(where the processor is located). The new GS3 is running normally so far. The tech at the sprint store couldnt figure the old 1 out so they just replaced it(insurance/no charge).

Nexus Overheating, Battery Draining

Hey guys, hopefully someone can help.
I have a Nexus with severe charging, overheating and battery drain issues. It's on stock jellybean, factory reset, no extra apps installed, and the battery will discharge in about 1 hour by just sitting idle. It takes maybe 2 days to actually charge to 80%. I'm about to replace the charging port to see if that will help.
However, it's also getting extremely hot. Not just mildly warm. And this is when it's just sitting there idle. Not only that, it's staying hot when the phone is off and not even charging. The only time it stops is when the battery fully discharges in about 2 hours... while the phone is still off.
Anyone experience this?
I have a grey market Galaxy Nexus which means I can't send it in for US repairs.

sounds like its time to replace the battery. is the battery leaking, discolored, warped, or "pregnant"?

Yes, I'm also saying it's the time for a battery replacement. They are fairly cheap, so you can fix it without spending too much money.

Nope, battery looks brand new, but I'll definitely order a new battery. Hopefully the ones on eBay are really OEM.
My battery gets to 122f while charging and wifi tether. I try to keep it near a fan and it helps some. But I don't have any battery drain issues. You probably just need a new battery.

New charging port, new battery and phone still charges extremely slow and drains real fast. About 20% in 40 minutes. Takes around 30 minutes to charge 2%.
Then when I take the battery out and put it back in, the phone thinks the battery is empty (I took it out with 30% charge left). Not sure what to do at this point since the only thing left to do is replace the mainboard which will probably cost more than it's worth.
Anyone have any other ideas?
Some screen shots

After threatening to throw this phone in the ocean, it started working normally.
Trying to figure out what was wrong with it, opened it up again, put back in the old charging port (which had a higher revision number than the one I bought).
I waited 1.5 days for the phone to charge to 96%. Drained it to about 20% in less than 2hrs. Stuck it into the charger again but the battery was still draining. All the way down to 7% where it seemingly stayed stuck for a day. Then I guess it shut itself off.
Went to check on the phone randomly and saw on the power-off screen the battery had charged to 100% which never has happened and especially not in less than a day.
Turned it back on, started using it and battery drains sort of normally now. Overheating has also disappeared completely and now it also charges normally.
So in summary, I have no idea if this problem is going to resurface and I really didn't do anything to fix it. Though I would really like to know what happened to have it malfunction like this for almost a month.

[Q] Extreme battery drain even with new battery and new charger on 4.4.4?

Basically as title reads. I've been having extreme battery drain. I thought it might have been my battery that was shot, so I bought a new one, as well as a charger. I even had a massive battery (don't know the mAh off the top of my head, and it isn't with me- but it was so large that it came with its own new backing) that also seemed to drain quickly. It seems the original battery would last 2-3 hours with barely any usage (a text or two; checking the time) and with regular usage (googling, reddit, texts) would be an hour. The large battery lasted 3-4 with barely any usage and 1-3 with usage. WiFi is off as well as GPS.. Only apps (besides what regularly runs) running are Handcent, Chrome, clock. That's all.
It also seems to discharge when charging and using my phone at the same time, so I have to leave it alone completely while it charges... And it charges really, really slowly. The large battery took 12 hours to fully charge last time I charged it. (I got a new one yesterday, seems my battery is still dying extremely quickly).
Here is what I am running on my phone.
Here is the new battery I ordered for it that I'm currently using.
I also use this to try to extend my battery life to a normal amount.
I am also waiting for this to come in the mail to help juice up my battery life to get through a day at work.
I bought a charger by RocketFish a while back at Best Buy which is what I used for a while before going to default S3 charger (brand new, I was originally using my S2 charger). Nothing seems to be helping.
So all in all, is my phone shot? Is there anything I can do to fix it? I'm not sure I want to go out and buy an S5 (especially with Samsung being so closed about bootloaders now). What can I do?
I'm using CM11 on 4.4.4
Well some people have complaints about Cyan's battery life so have you tried taking back to stock?

New battery goes flat fast

My original battery was not doing very well, so I bought what the seller said was a new, genuine Sony battery.
I put it in, all seemed ok, it was definitely better than the old battery.
But if I play a game, the phone gets hot and the battery disappears pretty quick. I'm having to charge it a few times a day.
Doesn't sound like a genuine battery to me, or has my phone gone dodgy?
I put a temperature monitoring app on there, says the battery is hitting 42/44'C when playing games, is that normal?

Phone never going into deep sleep after battery change

Initially the issue i had with my phone was that it would randomly stop charging and it started to do it quiet frequently as well. I thought that it was charger jack issue but after searching regarding it over internet i found out that the issue was related to battery when it got worn out to a point that phone would refuse to charge it randomly.
To fix this issue, 3 days ago i got my battery changed. Went back home, used Accubattery and Voila! 40% battery health (1500 mAh). The dude put a terrible battery in my phone so i am going to get it changed again from him soon.
However, another issue i found out was that as Accubattery told that phone was never going into deep sleep. It was sipping 7% battery in an hour when the phone's screen was off. I am barely getting 1.5 hour screen on time at the moment if i turn all the power saving features ON. What is causing this issue? Any clue?
Any clue what is causing the issue? There is a very big one staring you in the face: the battery.
I don't know why you would go back to a guy who clearly scammed you with a POS battery, but all your issues stem from the battery currently in your unit. In your position I would be moving heaven and earth to get a genuine battery and finding someone reputable to do the work.
