How to format Rooted HTC One X SD Card - HTC One X

Im on a custom rom, just don't want to lose nothing, just want to wipe the SD card as ive used almost all my 25GB but i don't want to manually go through deleting things file by file, would prefer to just format everything without losing the rom, or CWM or my bootloader/hboot.

there's an option to format SD card in recovery

Will that keep all the important information that the phone needs to operate?

Your nandroid backups will be gone so better back them up.
Rom, cwm and stuff like that will not be affected since they are not stored on sdcard.

Go to settings > storage > erase SD card
or if you're on a sense version
settings > storage > Erase phone storage

Install the MCR3.1 with A2SD+ on a rooted Desire but on a new SDCARD

Hello guys, i have a question, some may call it noob some may thought it themselves. i am currently rooted and using mcr3.1 without problems at all but i don't have the apps2sd.
i want to try it and i baked a new rom from the kitchen with the a2sd+ option integrated but i don't want to mess up my current sdcard and want to use another one i have. can i do that ???
as i see it i must do the following:
1) while my CurrentCard is inserted make a nandroid from the fake-flash recovery
2) turn off the phone and insert the new card
3) put the update.zip (for fake-flash) and the baked rom onto the sd card
4) now go into recovery (fake-flash) and choose to install new rom
will this work ok ?????
in addition as i see on my SDCARD some applications like titanium backup or astro or htc mail, rom manager, wifi tether etc have some files on it into their respective folders. will i be ok if i copy-paste them after the procedure into their folders in the fat partition???? or the a2sd+ uses some other m,ethod for the apps to store their info ????
THANKS for all the help
That should be fine...just don't forget to partition the new sd card for a2sd
do i need to make it with gparted or the rom makes it by default ???
The recovery image has it all. Look!

yeah i haven't taken a look into the recovery before...is there any update.zip that adds the a2sd+ to my current configuration ????
No because it's already part of the rom. Your sd just needs partitioning correctly.
Back up your sd card, boot into recovery. Go to partition menu and partition sd card.
Mine is swap 0, ext 512, fat remaining space. Then you can copy your sd backup back to the fat32 partition.
That's it all apps will install to sd card.

[Q] Partitioning my sd card

Ok so i have an 8 gig memory card. And from what I understand, when you partition your SD card it deletes everything, upgrades your ext2 to ext3, and allows for more internal memory on the phone, and puts all of your apps on your SD card (if the rom you wanna use allows it).
But what are the swap values and such? I get confused at the part where it asks to set the values. If its any help I want to use either synergy or evolvedandroid running freedom kernel.
Set the swap to 0.

That wont effect anything with the kernels though? What should the other values be

Back up the contents of your SD card to your computer or external drive because this procedure will erase EVERYTHING on it. Using amonRA v2.3, select 'partition sdcard'. When prompted, enter 0 for the SWAP size, 1024 for the ext2 size and the rest for FAT. When the process is complete, select 'upgrade ext2 to ext3'. After the process is complete, go to the wipe menu and wipe EVERYTHING on the list. Afterwards and while still in recovery, connect your device to your computer and then select the USB-MS option. This will allow your computer to see the SD card. Copy over a freshly downloaded copy of the rom you want to flash and then flash it. Be patient during the initial boot process. After you've booted to your homescreen, it is recommended that you install your apps from the market initially, especially if you're going to be using a rom like Synergy. Your apps should be stored on the ext3 partition upon installation.

Alrighty. Ill try it out. And when I flash a new rom, as long as it supports apps to SD, will all my apps with their data be re-uploaded onto the newly flashed rom?

Automatically? Maybe, but that depends on the rom and if you have your apps autosynced with Google's servers. I'll give you an example: When I flash an AOSP rom like SalvageMod (my favorite) or OMGB, my apps are autorestored but not to the ext3 partition, but when I reflash the Synergy rom, they do, but not all the time. What I suggest is you do the following: as soon as you have your device exactly how you want it, boot into recovery and create a nandroid backup consisting of your boot, data, system & sdext. When you're done, create another nandroid backup of only your data & sdext. The first backup is something you should do everytime you make significant changes to your device. The second backup is for restoring your data, homescreens and apps when you want to just reflash your current rom or flash a 'very similar' rom. NOTE: if you are NOT going to partition your card with an ext3 partition then substitute the sdext with android.secure when you create your nandroid backup. Android.secure is where your paid apps are stored.

Wiping data/cache does nothing?

Whenever I flash any rom on my gsm nexus my previous apps and info still show up on the new rom, even if I did a full wipe. Is there something wrong with my nexus?
If they're on your virtual sd card then no, nothing's wrong. CWR doesn't touch your sd card partition nor does doing a factory reset. The only way to delete everything is to format them (mounts & storage -> format /data). If you want you can format all of the partitions, however you won't be able to boot until you flash recovery and adb push your ROM's zip onto the 'sd card' and install it.

[Q] Safe to wipe sdcard partition

I'm new to the Android world, but having played around with my new HTC One X over recent days I'm ready to unlock the bootloader and install Mike1986's custom ROM.
Due to my incessant tinkering I feel the urge to completely wipe the phone, all settings, all data... everything... before flashing the firmware.
The bit I'm confused about is how can I erase the contents of the internal sdcard when there's probably system apps on the phone accessing config files on it?
I assume I need to go to Settings -> Storage -> Phone Storage -> Erase phone storage to completely wipe the internal sdcard partition? If not, I guess I can just mount it and erase all files using computer before copying over the relevant zip files for the flashing process?
Not sure how this will affect any running apps though - or do I need to go to Settings -> Apps and kill off any non-critical running apps before wiping the sdcard partition?
Thanks
Pete

Mount it first, format the internal sd card then do a factory reset/install custom rom on the phone. The device will automatically replace any system app data that is required back onto the sd card.
Thanks for the confirmation.
Did as you suggested, plus following the various other guides on this forum, and successfully flashed mike1986's ROM.
As you said, everything was recreated automatically on the sdcard.
Thanks again for the info

Quick Question about TWRP?

OK, so backing up my current ROM, takes up alot of memory. I believe you don't have to backup
System
Data
Boot
Recovery
Cache
flexrom (another option to back up even tho i'm not using flexrom at the moment...kinda weird)
Isn't there only 3 of the above you only need to back up technically??
And is there anyway to automatically back up to my external sd card?
and restore from my external sd card?
Cause my internal memory is completely full, mostly from twrp backups it seems like
P.S. in the back up option why does it give me an option for flexrom? and i remember one time it was like over 1000 mb or something, now its only 4mb (currently on aokp)

For a minimal backup to restore you need system and data. Those are the big ones but also the two you need to restore at minimum. If you don't care about settings and apps backup only system.
I suggest at least one backup with recovery and boot just in case something goes wrong with either one.
Cache isn't needed as you should wipe it before booting a restore anyways.
In twrp go to mounts and check use external SD, it will stay that way unless you change recoveries or wipe cache.
I never backup flex unless its an Acer based rom.
You can also move the twrp folder to external SD and your current backups will be available when you switch twrp to external, and you can delete any unneeded backups.

thanks button hit and wanted to say thank you in person or text or in forums, what ever you call it lol
