OK, so backing up my current ROM, takes up alot of memory. I believe you don't have to backup
System
Data
Boot
Recovery
Cache
flexrom (another option to back up even tho i'm not using flexrom at the moment...kinda weird)
Isn't there only 3 of the above you only need to back up technically??
And is there anyway to automatically back up to my external sd card?
and restore from my external sd card?
Cause my internal memory is completely full, mostly from twrp backups it seems like
P.S. in the back up option why does it give me an option for flexrom? and i remember one time it was like over 1000 mb or something, now its only 4mb (currently on aokp)

For a minimal backup to restore you need system and data. Those are the big ones but also the two you need to restore at minimum. If you don't care about settings and apps backup only system.
I suggest at least one backup with recovery and boot just in case something goes wrong with either one.
Cache isn't needed as you should wipe it before booting a restore anyways.
In twrp go to mounts and check use external SD, it will stay that way unless you change recoveries or wipe cache.
I never backup flex unless its an Acer based rom.
You can also move the twrp folder to external SD and your current backups will be available when you switch twrp to external, and you can delete any unneeded backups.

Since the is no sd card on this phone to save stuff on (i.e. pictures music, etc), when we flash a rom and have to do a wipe , do we lose all of our stuff?
Before you install a custom ROM, make a backup of your current ROM in Recovery. The phone uses built in storage instead of an SD card, but the process for backing up and restoring is the same.

ok do a backup in CWM ? so when I flash after the new rom is on , my folders and files will still be on the built in storage ?
Create a CWM backup and backup the apps you want on titanium. My suggestion for titanium, after you wipe let the market automatically restore your apps and use titanium to restore your data from the apps you want. Most everything like pictures and what's on your internal storage should still be there after wipe, but I would throw them on your laptop or wherever just in case.

The phone does have a "sdcard." Just think of it as a irremovable 16 GB sdcard.
Everything else is the same.
Making a backup is optional, you can do it if you want. Or not do it.
You can always restore yourself back to stock using the stock images provided by Google (google it if you wish to find it).

Liquid Smooth ROM. - Amazing rom btw. I cant thank those folks enough for their brilliant work
TWRP for recovery
Ive done numerous dalvic/system/cache/data wipes through twrp in preparation for new roms. But my INTERNAL 16 gb SD card always shows that i have around 12GB USED. thats with no personal apps installed
Heres my question. How do i remove all unnecessary data thats hogging up space. I want a CLEAN space to work with!
I do have 4 twrp recovery files (4gb worth of data?) stored in there. Im assuming the system uses about 3 gb's. plus the gapps and liquid rom are only 194 mb combined. So that accounts for maybe 7 or 8 gb
So how do i do a totally clean wipe without losing twrp, recovery files AND root!
the only wipe option ive never used is USB-OTG. (USB On The Go?) No idea what it is or what it does. so i never messed with it. Ive read that it acts like a driver of some sort to allow usb devices to communicate with each other..
Ive also never gone into the Format data section of twrp out of fear that i might wipe the wrong things and render my phone useless
One article i read said that i might have to revert back to stock? im hoping thats not so. And do a factory wipe. Is that different from TWRP's functions? Im assuming that i would lose root.
they said din flash to stock
Odin master clear (or wipe SD from settings)
*2767*3855# on the phones keypad ...(i think codes in general only work on stock TW)
Do i have to format the sd card? would i lose important partitions that would delete the recovery system?
any ideas? i considered opening a partition wizard app to see the different partions on the internal sd card.
I'm no expert on this, but I think that Liquid Smooth has a place in Settings to let you view the space allocation of the storage in your phone and external SD card.
Go to Settings > Storage (or something similar) and take a look at how much space is being allocated of each of the different types of data. It might give you a better idea on what might be taking up that additional ~4GB of space.
If you can, provide us with a screenshot of the Storage screen. If not, you can just type them here so we can better understand what might be going on.
Back up internal sdcard to your computer.
Wipe data/factory reset.
Wipe /data/media.
You can do this through TWRP. Won't lose anything except contents of your internal sdcard. Which is why you back it up first.
Don't forget the formatting of the filesystem does this. Just like windows a 100gig hard drive formats to a smaller amount.

I flash a lot of roms on my phone. Recently I noticed that there was a lot of left over programs and apps on my internal memory. I have nothing on the phone I want to keep that is not already backed up via TitaniumBackup.
What I would like to do, is wipe everything that I can without messing up partitions or Mount points or the needed stuff in ./data/media so I can flash a new room on a totally clean phone (except for the nessasary files needed like the data/media stuff and recovery stuff ect..)
Normally when I flash I do this: (in TWRP)
1. Nandroid backup
2. Wipe/factory restore
3. Wipe data and system again
4. Flash new ROM
5. Wipe devlik/cache
6. Reboot
When I finally get to the desktop I start up root explorer and look around my internal memory. This is were I still see a lot of old apps still sitting there. I want them gone. I'm afraid to wipe/format internal memory while in TWRP because I will lose everything right ? Even the stuff that is needed to boot the phone to recovery.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks

Go in twrp and click wipe, advanced, and click everything. after wiping Mount the phone to PC via twrp and move the rom and kernel to sd card. Unmount then do the steps you usually do to install a ROM, including wipe.

If you have your TiBu backups, nandroids, and ROM zips, pictures, videos, etc already on your SD card; there is no harm in formatting your internal memory. You won't lose recovery, you won't have a problem with booting, nothing of that sort.
When I was running SynergyRom on my S3, wiping Internal memory was usually Always suggested because of the reasons you mentioned.
Move your Nandroid and files you want to flash to your extSdCard card for obvious reasons.
I have TWRP 2.5.0.2 as my Recovery, which has been running without issues for months.
Enter Recovery:
Press -
Wipe
Format Data
As a safety valve, you'll be asked to Type in Yes to continue this Internal wipe.
You'll retain the partitions you mentioned.
I think the above will get you to where you want to be.
You can always double check afterward as you've already done before.

Just wanted to say good question and responses. Helpful.
I want to reset my device and restore all apps from TB. The reason is that 1 app is not working for me and I know it used to work before, and nothing I tried worked
Now the questions...
* when I do factory reset, will I loose root? (i suppose not)
* will the data on internal SD be erased? (need to backup, that would be pain)
now, I want to do nandroid backup just in case I don't like something/forget to backup something . The question is
* is there a way to tell how much space the nandroid backup will need? I have a whole lot of apps, my titanium backup folder is like 3gb and I have like ~3gb on ExtSD card so I wonder whether it will be enough
* what does this backup, only system partition/internal memory (where apps are installed)? Or it backups the internal SD card too? (i suppose not)
thanx

I cant answer all...
But these are what i know...
-When you have a stock ROM and you do a factory reset...you will loose root. But if you will install a rooted ROM, it will be rooted again.
-If its stock ROM, i think it will erase even the internal memory. But if it is aosp and your sd card is linked to mnt/shell/emulated/0, it wont.(well...this works for me, ProBam Rom)
-mine is like 1.2 gb because i only have a 300 mb TB backup. (do the math xD)
-it backups system, apps and all...but not the internal memory.
Hope this helps...even a bit. XD

Damn, so it's another couple of hours to do the backup....

you can use CWM to reset, that won't erase data on SD card. (I know about philz at least, it have option to factory reset with choice)

This will backup SystemROM + Applications you have used, not data on int SD
card
to calculate space needed for nandroid
open file explorer (provided you are not using memory bind/ext-intSd like sw)
select all and check size , say it is -A GB
Open Titanium backup - overview and check free space on int memory , say it's B GB
then total it AGB + BGB = C GB
11GB - C GB = D GB
now add 700 MB to D
that is at least you should have free for nandroid.
Hello,
I'm running the latest stable CM, and took a CWM backup. I wanted to revert back to stock to try a bunch of GPS fixes (not that any of them helped). Afterwards, I restored the backup, but all my photos and music are gone (there were not stored on the external SD card). Does CWM back up internal storage? Any ideas on what to do next?
Thanks.
If you wiped internal storage to flash AOSP, then your pictures are gone, If you used a full wipe odin oneclick, that has removed and wiped internal storage as well. You'll need use special tools to recovery data from internal, hopefully you didn't wipe the device like 1-3 times as people do that to fully make sure the device is wiped properly.

If it was lollipop cm you tried, to go back to KitKat you have to wipe internal storage (data/media) or that will happen. Cwm does not backup internal SD, but it also does not wipe it unless you specifically wipe it. Wiping data does not wipe internal SD nor does a factory reset done in recovery.
