Wiping data/cache does nothing? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Whenever I flash any rom on my gsm nexus my previous apps and info still show up on the new rom, even if I did a full wipe. Is there something wrong with my nexus?

If they're on your virtual sd card then no, nothing's wrong. CWR doesn't touch your sd card partition nor does doing a factory reset. The only way to delete everything is to format them (mounts & storage -> format /data). If you want you can format all of the partitions, however you won't be able to boot until you flash recovery and adb push your ROM's zip onto the 'sd card' and install it.

[Q] I can't partition SD with ROM Manager anymore

Hi all,
I cannot create partition using ROM Manager anymore. (I could in the past). Rom Manager says it will wipe all data on the card, but after the process complete, none is wiped. All files r still there.
I've formatted the SD card. I've even tried with another SD card.
In Recovery > mounts and storage > I played around with wipe cache, & format cache. i wiped dalvik-cache. I mount & unmount cache & sdcard. I had no idea what i was doing, but i was trying every options possible before asking for help.
Please help me to partition SD card.
Thanks,
D
I have the exact same problem in this very moment actually. Trying to find a solution, will let you know if I discover one.
For me Rom Manager not worked too. Use recovery to format SD card.
If reinstalling/clearing cache didn't work, try syncing the Desire with HTC Sync 3.0, then attempt the Rom manager actions again. Worked for me.
I reinstalled ROM Manager, formatted my SD card and also did a hard-reset and cleared all caches - that did the trick for me. ClockworkMod Recovery just displayed a large triangle before I got it to work.

[Q] - Selling my phone, safe to wipe SD card.

I am selling my phone. I want to get all my data of the phone and SD card before I sell it for obvious reasons.
I plan on doing the following (all from within recovery):-
A factory reset.
Format all partitions (system, data, boot).
Install a rom.
Format SD Card.
Is there anything else I need to do? Is doing the above tasks in the order specified, the best way of doing things? Have I missed anything out?

You can try this method to fully wipe phone and sd card. Just when you install rom and reboot dont log in to google account let new buyer do that by them login in or creating and account.
Basically
1. Wipe Factory
2. Wipe Cache
3. Wipe Dalvik
4. Format Partitions (except sd card)
5. Format sd Card
6. Mount USB (still in 4ext recovery)
7. Place rom in SD
8. Install from SD
9. Flash ROM
just after the wipe and format install a clean and stable Rom so it will look like new, for my advice use a stock sense one like ARHD its the best stock non-customized rom out there for sense
to totally wipe the SD card of any personal data so that 9.99999% of people will not be able to recover info on it...make sure you use the overwrite format option in SD Formatter, then just do a standard quick format.

[Q] Factory restore wipes internal SD card as well?

Hi,
I just installed CWM and flashed the new CM10 milestone for my Galaxy Nexus.
As part of this, I wiped data via CWM, and also wiped cache.
However, this seems to have removed *everything*, including the SD card storage, DCIM etc.
Err, is this normal on the Galaxy Nexus? I know it doesn't have a separate SD card per se, but I was under the impression that the internal SD card storage gets left alone on a factory reset.
This isn't good...
Long shot, but any way to recovery? Lol.
Cheers,
Victor
No only the stock recovery wipes everything. Unless you hit format /data in recovery... even then it doesnt format /data/media which is the true location of the symlinked "sdcard" The recovery wouldnt have done this i would say either you messed up and hit an option that said something otherwise. Or it just had a hiccup and corrupted.

[Q] Install ROM after full data wipe question

So back on my Evo 4G whenever I wanted to flash a new rom, I would load it on my SD card. Then boot into custom recovery and wipe cache/Dalvik... Then would wipe ALL data/factory reset. Then I would install my new rom off of my SD card.
With my S3, I cannot access anything on my SD via CWM recovery. I have a SDXC card formatted to FAT32 and am on Blazer 1.8
I want to do a full data wipe before flashing new ROMS, but I am worried that if I do, I won't have a way of getting a zip file back on my phone after doing so.
It ALMOST seems like. Remember being able to access my SD in CWM when I was on a stock rooted rom. But I'm not positive.
How does one do a wipe data option in CWM and then get a flash able zip back on the phone afterwards if the SD card is not available to see and move data to/from?
I don'tanna end up wiping all data and then finding out that I hav no way of installing/restoring a rom.
Thanks!

Move on to TWRP for your recovery, much more features but if you don't want to do that go to CWM's website and update to 6.0 it will allow you to "see" your sd card

+1 on TWRP, much nicer and more features and themable To install, download GooManager open it and grant SU access then tap menu and select "Install OpenRecoveryScript" and it'll do the rest.
BTW you're following the process ok, except you're doing one additional step that is not required that is to wipe cache and dalvik. When you factory reset you're deleting the data partition which also has both cache. It should be wipe system then do factory reset, flash the ROM after that and you should be all set.
Install stock JB LS8 after wipe
I got info on how to wipe the phone using CW mode. It does explain to format boot and system partition and ask to reboot. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1410881)I was left in confusion. If boot is formatted, would CW mode work after reboot ? After full wipe, can I get GT-I9100 in download mode and do stock rom installation using ODIN ? Thanks in advance.

Formatting Boot will not affect CWM. CWM is your receovery not your boot. Also after a full wipe you should be able to get into download mode to flash via ODIN.
Install TWRP or update CWM, one version of CWM had a bug and don't let you access the sdcard.
If you choose TWRP, in the Format Menu, DO NOT use "Format Data" Second Row/Right Option. It will delete your data on the internal storage.

Make sure you have the most recent version of CWM. I can access both internal and external storage. It's downloadable from the ClockworkMod app.

How to completely wipe phone?

So I had a problem with my phone and I am I installing a fresh ROM using TWRP. Am I able to put my ROM on the External SDCard and completely wipe the device including the SD Card?
A normal Wipte leaves the SDCard and I want everything gone.
TIA
There is an option for this in the Wipe menu in TWRP. I don't remember what it says, it's the lowest left option I guess

Yes you can store ROM on external SD card. Thats where mine are saved. I usually wipe "system" which I believe wipes your current ROM...factory reset..wipe cache and dalvik cache. I would just make sure the ROM you want to flash is actually on the ext before you do anything.
