Bluetooth audio in vehicles - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I was a long time cm10 user and with my new Subaru wrx I could get track information on the OEM head unit when streaming Bluetooth audio.
I upgraded to a stock 4.2.1 ROM and now that ability is gone.
Is this a kernel issue or ROM issue? If I switched over to, say Trinity, would I get that feature back? I really hate to drop the stock kernel because its rock solid.
Or, do I need to switch back to cm10(cm10.1)?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

It's a rom issue I think

I tried AK kernel and just ended up with issues lol.
First, it was the pgm version and whenever I tried swiping the screen it would turn on with an amber tint.. Wtf??
Then, I made a phone call and the screen went unresponsive...
So I'm back to stock and zero issues.

AVRC 1.3 is needed for this. CM10 has it, otherwise look for another ROM

I have the same issue. The GS3 showed the info on my Sony head unit but the galaxy nexus doesn't. It does with cm10 I believe.

Yeah, I wish more the aosp built roms would cherry-pick the avrcp 1.3 code. I'm hoping to go back to CM 10 (actually 10.1 now) once it's stable.

Maybe I am wrong but I thought it is also a matter of the audio player you are using. With some of them it doesn't seem to work (according to car forums I read).

You're right, but it's Google Music.. it worked before with CM10 but not with a vanilla build of 4.2.x... Google, for whatever reason, left it out even though it supports this feature.
I'll switch over to CM10.1, as they had it included in CM10, once it becomes rock solid stable.

SGS3 from iOS

I am a longtime android user, own all nexus devices, etc.
My brother is thinking about making the jump from iPhone to an sgs3, should he stay on touchwiz or should I help him get a stable ROM on there? Maybe AOKP jellybean?
Suggestions and opinions/experiences appreciated.
I'd say stock for a bit then later aokp. Let him get a taste of both worlds...
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
Agree. Flashing a frequently updated ROM might be a bit much for an iPhone user, and touchwiz is friendly enough!
I'd say stock w/ either Apex/Nova launcher
I say let him run stock, maybe if he wants a luncher on top of it, but if coming from iOS I would let him run TW fully there are some really cool features in TW that he will enjoy so much .
I say run stock for a few months, or until he is throughly annoyed by touch wiz. Then start flashing. Let him get used to how Android works, the menus, eyv before throwing custom stuff at him. If he doesn't know how it's SUPPOSED to work, he won't know when it DOESN'T work on a custom.
Personal opinion but no god awful touchwiz...and with the USSD bug goin around even more reason for me to never ever reccommend anyone use it
You say you have all the Nexus devices, so I'm assuming that means the Galaxy Nexus? How about letting him use your Nexus and you get an S3? That way he can get used to pure Android without having to root.

Aren't alot of features that come on the GSIII tied into TW? I haven't switched to AOKP on this phone but ran it on my GSII. There are things you have to give up by going AOKP or CM.

Like crap battery life, 26 hrs plus on AOKP. Lol. There are TW features that are missing (certain camera features come to mind). But to the point of the OP, if you haven't used TW much, you won't miss them. Yes, AOKP/CM10 are updated frequently, but you don't have to update unless you want to. If the build you are on is stable, battery life is great and you're happy, don't update. I flash every update, my wife is on an early August build. For a person new to the S3, I would stay stock for a month (30 day return policy). If they're happy, leave it alone. If the battery sucks, root it, load Titanium Backup, and kill all the S-crap and carrier bloat. It should be a learning process, done in steps. Android is fun and there are so many options, which (to me) is why it is better than IOS. Too many people rush into custom ROM's without acquiring the basic knowledge of how Android works.

High pitch screeching sound when playing music?

So uh, I've been using the AOKP ROM for awhile now along with KTs kernel and everything has been running fine. That is until yesterday when I was on my way back to Toronto from a trip and suddenly in the middle of a song a loud, high pitch screech went off in my ears(Scared the crap out of me). At first I thought it was my headphones, but after unplugging em and hitting play, the screech was coming through the speaker as well. The odd thing is, it's only with certain songs that it does it. Was thinking of flashing a new ROM/kernel combo to see if that fixes it. Anyone else ever experience this/have another fix?

I've got my sgh-I747 running latest OTA from at&t rooted and using TWRP recovery. When I use the aux in on my car stereo in conjunction with my charger I get a horrible whine with cracking and popping. Read a couple posts where ppl said they were able to exchange their device for a new one that did not have the same problem so I may be going that route with mine. Keep me posted if you resolve your issues.

How do you like the AOKP build. I'm new to android. I've been using jailbroken iOS for several years now. Android takes some getting used to but I'm really starting to dig it.
I noticed yesterday on the way home that the noise is only present when the device is both plugged into the charger and there is no audio broadcast. So in between songs or pauses in a radio app like tune-in radio. So not as bad as I thought but still kinda embarrassing. When you are showing how cool android is to your iOS friends

Haha don't ya just hate that? Trying to show off your phone and all of a sudden it's screaming at you? Talk about a downer.
But AOKP I just love. It's what I've been using for almost 2 years on all my devices. The customization and performance is just amazing. Hands down my favorite ROM. Like, I've tried the stock based ones, Cyanogen and others, but they just don't fulfill my needs like AOKP does. Get the right kernel combo/setup going with it and you'll be satisfied for a good amount of time if not forever

Bringing this thread back to life. Got an AT&T Samsung GS3 running CM10 Stable (10.0.0) with the stock kernel and when I plug the phone into my car's AUX system, there is a loud very high pitched / high frequency whine that is continuous, but only happens when the phone goes into audio-out mode... if the phone isn't doing anything, there is no whine, but as soon as I press "play" on the music player or turn pandora on, the whine comes on and continues throughout music play.
I tried plugging in my headphones (Klipsch S2) and there is no high-pitched noise that I can hear.
Is there a fix yet? Anyone else running CM10 stable having this problem?
Thanks!!

Lags

Hey. After I flash a new rom, the phone is super quick and respones very well. Buy after a few days, it starts to get laggy. When I am presaing the soft keys it takes a couple of seconds to respond, apps loading times can reach about 20 seconds, contacts loading too. I am using the GSM Gnex with CNA 3.8 rom and franco kernel r298. The lags occurred with XenonHD too. Dont get me wrong, I am not complaining about the developers, I am just trying to figure out if I am doing something wrong.

Are you rebooting your phone or just leaving it on for weeks at a time?
I remember someone saying it has to do with the zram optimizations in roms and kernels. at first it makes things faster and the the idea implemented is good in theory but over time it makes things unbearably slow. i dont know the technical reasons for this, someone with more knowledge than me may be able to explain it.

Obviously downloading from the Play Store is using system resources (RAM, a % of the processor etc.) so a slow down is to be expected.
The phone restarting itself =/= to rebooting it regularly. Just like your computer you shouldn't leave it running 24/7. Sometimes you just need to give your phone a restart.
I think the lags are related to the heatcof the Gnex. Maybe the my cheap case makes it worse. I will check without case so it have more contact with the air. I will report the results.

It looks almost like a memory leak. (That was a big problem on exynos devices runing cm10). It happened to me today (latest nightly cm10), Once my free ram was less than 100 mb the phone became noticeably less responsive.
Sane here!!! Thought it was just me... lol. I was running black bean baked! I love it but became super laggy! Almost threw it across my room lol. But just clashed slim bean and hope its bad ROM coding :-/.

Yup u are right. Many people used to tell that Franco kernel is the best and stuff but even that after using for a few days gets slow whereas in stock all that crap doesn't happen. I still use Franco because games work smoother on it compared to stock. Even the battery life is inconsistent. Just try stock after weeks and Franco right after a reboot still stock will be overall faster and smoother.

HI folks,

Please share your experiences the good, bad and ugly of this phone. Is the hardware good? radio quality? after about, 1-1.5 years is the phone durable? Particular issues, quirks.
Thank you all.

it's been a really fast phone after the nokia 5800, and I love the qwerty keyboard, but I wouldnt buy it again. Now I know that the supported up to date OS is a very important point of view, and we have problems with that, so I'd buy a nexus probably. or an s3/s4
x3 ... short answer, no don't by it.
It's sad but the bluetooth and skype issues have killed this phone.
Take a look at the Droid 4 or the Galaxy Relay 4g
I think it's nice...
I just got this phone not too long ago, and I have to say, it's pretty good.
Sure, if you are a power user, I would get soemthing more powerful, with maybe a tegra 3.
This thing is dual-core, so it runs pretty flawlessly, but I have issues with a supported kernel and overclocking it, as the battery already suns at about 105 degrees F ALL THE TIME.
It's got decent specs, and an excellent screen, but honestly, if you want something with that extra "Oomph" I would get a Note II or Galaxy SIII

I would never overclock it. I would want something fast, with a keyboard, that has reliable bluetooth. It doesn't have to be top of the line, in fact I would use this to hold me over till I can get a Galaxy S4 and then get the bluetooth keyboard for that.

Doh so close. How bad are we talking? A few minutes, who cares, but 15 to 30 minutes, that's bad.
Also, lite ROM based off of ICS or Jelly Bean? Thanks in advance.
Depends. Once the lock happens it is rather constant. I find it is hard to get a lock while moving. Not moving it is about 5 minutes.
In short, it would fail as a dedicated GPS but would work in a pinch.
Lite ROM is based on 4.0.4. I get the names mixed up though so not sure if that is jb or ics.
