HI folks,
I just want to know your experiences with this phone. I am planning to buy this one from Amazon.com especially for its qwerty keypad.
Please share your experiences the good, bad and ugly of this phone. Is the hardware good? radio quality? after about, 1-1.5 years is the phone durable? Particular issues, quirks.
Thank you all.

It has a tegra2 which doesnt support neon instructions so i would say dont buy it

it's been a really fast phone after the nokia 5800, and I love the qwerty keyboard, but I wouldnt buy it again. Now I know that the supported up to date OS is a very important point of view, and we have problems with that, so I'd buy a nexus probably. or an s3/s4
x3 ... short answer, no don't by it.
It's sad but the bluetooth and skype issues have killed this phone.
Take a look at the Droid 4 or the Galaxy Relay 4g
I think it's nice...
I just got this phone not too long ago, and I have to say, it's pretty good.
Sure, if you are a power user, I would get soemthing more powerful, with maybe a tegra 3.
This thing is dual-core, so it runs pretty flawlessly, but I have issues with a supported kernel and overclocking it, as the battery already suns at about 105 degrees F ALL THE TIME.
It's got decent specs, and an excellent screen, but honestly, if you want something with that extra "Oomph" I would get a Note II or Galaxy SIII

Okay, what are neon instructions? I am basically looking at this like a faster version of the Epic 4G that happens to be GSM.

Are the bluetooth and skype issues present even if you're not using a custom rom?

I would never overclock it. I would want something fast, with a keyboard, that has reliable bluetooth. It doesn't have to be top of the line, in fact I would use this to hold me over till I can get a Galaxy S4 and then get the bluetooth keyboard for that.
No, Bluetooth and store work without issue if you are on a stock bases ROM. It is the cm based ones that have this issue.
I would be interested what other people asst finding that has better hardware for the same price.

Thanks for the response. I am aware if I get this I will be stuck with stock Ice Cream Sandwich, but I can live with that. Again its just to hold me over till I can get (i.e. afford  ) the S4, and then I would get the Minisuit bluetooth keyboard. But if I get this, no I would never put a custom ROM on it nor overclock it nor anything crazy. I would simply root it and unlock it then leave it alone.
Well you may find lite ROM to you liking. It is based on stock so Bluetooth and Skype work. It cleans up the bloat and adds a few nice features such a voodoo sound. The only issue so far with this phone is poor GPS lock time and it will not be updated any more past 4.0.4

Doh so close. How bad are we talking? A few minutes, who cares, but 15 to 30 minutes, that's bad.
Also, lite ROM based off of ICS or Jelly Bean? Thanks in advance.
Depends. Once the lock happens it is rather constant. I find it is hard to get a lock while moving. Not moving it is about 5 minutes.
In short, it would fail as a dedicated GPS but would work in a pinch.
Lite ROM is based on 4.0.4. I get the names mixed up though so not sure if that is jb or ics.

Hey, it's mod, and i was wondering if there is anyone who made the switch from the Galaxy Nexus to the Galaxy S III. If so, do you prefer it over the Gnex? Or do you miss AOSP Jellybean/ICS. I'm thinking of upgrading to the Galaxy S III off contract because of an issue my Gnex is having so any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I am considering making the switch over. I love the GNex. Maybe I'm just a little bored with it? Though I do get bored with my phones easily.
The camera is making me want S3. And I also wouldn't switch over if there wasn't a good AOKP/CM10 ROM for the phone. I will likely get the S3, and then that same day install AOKP or CM10.
I made the switch from skyrocket...that's totally unrelated but I always used your ROMs M0D! Hope u decide to make the switch

I had a Galaxy Nexus for a couple months on Verizon before switching to AT&T and getting the GS3. I figured if I didn't like it I could sell it and buy the GSM Nexus off contract. So far I'm happy with it. The two phones seem to perform about the same for me. The GS3 has a slightly faster processor and more RAM, but I think the difference between stock Android and TouchWiz balances out the better specs. I fully expected to flash an AOSP ROM shortly after getting the phone, but I actually like some of the feature of TouchWiz such as the quick SMS after hanging up from a call (I've always thought voicemail was silly). Battery life has been about the same, possibly a little better on the GS3. I'm assuming the larger battery is balanced out by having more processes running on the phone.
Overall, I'm happy with the decision to switch to the S3 instead of getting another Nexus. I love the inclusion of an SD card slot plus the larger screen. The only thing I don't like is the decision to use a physical home button. I'm fine with going with capacitive buttons instead of the navigation bar, but I don't like having a physical button apart from the power/volume. It's obviously not a big enough issue to make me regret the phone.

We won't have too many ROM options, besides AOSP and TouchWiz, until CM10 is officially released. It's out for the international version, but only time will tell how long it takes to reach our version of the device.
If you want to take a giant risk, go ahead and flash ParanoidAndroid for the international version, but it'll probably hard-brick your device.

Hard Brick? If this were Wikipedia I'd tag that with [Citation Needed]
I agree it will probably make it non-functional, but I find it hard to believe it's something that restoring an original sprint partition wouldn't fix.

Maybe so, but I've heard stories of people hard-bricking their devices by flashing kernels made for different devices.
If anyone really wants this type of ROM, go to TMO GN2 forums and look at DaGR8s ROM. Or join #saurom on freenode. I asked if he could bring it over but he would rather have me maintain it but I know zero when it comes to modifying stock roms, smali, etc lol.

No offense, but I don't understand what you're asking. I say this because Android 4 is the same on phones and tablets. I have ASUS Transformer Infinity (TF700T) and this phone, and both are running Android 4.1. The difference are more device specific about screen size and particular hardware.
The mods I've seen are more about squeezing more functionality out the device, such a WiFi tether and mutli-app. They don't bring a more tablet experience than what the device already is in my use thus far.

Your cruelty knows no bonds. Making me search, LOL. Took me a while to find something that showed it. Most just videos on found on Youtube left in the ROM(s) in phone phone mode. This one showed it best that I was able find first.
But yes, I get it now. The sad part, only a few apps I use really have tablet interfaces. I like a similar interface across devices if possible. Although, it would be nice if K9 had a tablet UI. But I digress....
Haha sorry.
Yea I meam to me with 5.5 inch screen its more tabletized to me so why not exploit it more. **** if you advertise it as a "phablet" then why not send it with the optionm?!

I like the idea of picking some apps to use in Tablet form. NFL Game Pass has a good tablet app; but I believe it's designed for 10" tablets, not the small ones such as Nexus 7. I like Chrome's interface on the tablet over the phone as well.
I have the ASUS Transformer Inifinity. Needless, some apps are interesting with their user interface.
Unfortunately, most apps on Android are still designed for the phone interface. As Android tablet get more popular, we'll see design interface incorporate the larger screens.
At the moment, I'm just happy to have a larger screen so I can see without having to zoom everything.

Yea, the settings is a nicer setup on my tablet. Switching tasks is a lot faster too. I just hit one button instead of holding it down. But I like this phone's recent task list. It actually closes the programs. I really like the clear memory option too. Why they can't incorporate a clear cache, is beyond me, but something I would like in that menu area.

I flashed onto AOSP, so far so good. Excellent battery life on my E971. Getting 1 hr more screen time and not as much Android OS usage compared to stock. So far im at 12 hours on battery with 1 hr 35min of screen time and only at 51%. Only problem is that I miss the notification light, but thats a small price to pay for the newest OS and excellent battery life
WOW!!! I finally decided to keep the phone and now this... not good for LG Do you think they will correct this via warranty?
Correct what?
Gotta be honest with you....I absolutely LOVE this phone and dont think I'm ever going to root it. No need...its fast as all ****ing hell and the software works great. I've been rooting flashing ROM's on my past 2 phones for years and I'm kind of over it....at least for now Yeah the advantages are great but the cons are also a pain in the ass. Camera's that only half work, almost endless amounts of bugs, etc. Not to mention LG is rolling out JB as we speak.
As for how the phone is....its FASTTTTTT. I destroyed my girlfriends S3 in Quadrant and its eaten up everything I've put thrown at it (games, multitasking with apps, etc) with ease.
/\ thats great that you find it fast, I did too when I was using stock ics.. then I flased the JB rom and its no doubt faster over stock.. way more snappy.. like noticibly more as well as better battery life to boot..
Glad that I went to the trouble tbh, this rom beats stock ics by a loooong shot
Considering that everything works (at least for me it does) it was well worth the effort to install it..
Stock JB or some CM/AOKP/AOSP flavored one?
I have no doubt that JB is faster on this than ICS but I'm just gonna hold out for the official, stock JB update. It'll be here in the states in a month or so.
I loved my og... key word, loved..
Dropped it in water. :crying: gotta pay 150 to get a new one with telus..
Just got my LS970 from Sprint. I have LTE in my area so that's awesome. ICS on this phone is a little laggy. It's not as smooth as one would expect, especially scrolling through web pages with a lot of pictures. Even the FB, Twitter, and G+ plus apps tend to lag as you scroll through pics. Other than that this thing is solid. I'm liking it so far but i can't wait for the Jelly Bean update.

Isn't the international version significantly different from ours? As in a quad-core CPU? It's possible that we may not even get the premium suite just based on the hardware differences? So far, I think the international version S3 shares more in common with the Galaxy Note 2.

This phone is getting no updates in the States it had a good run but the gs4 is around the corner. Depends on what that phone specs are I might get a note2 since the price will drop unless there's something mind blowing with the new gs4. I love this phone but it's becoming old as far as technology and it's not the flagship phone anymore for sprint so they are in no rush to send a update if any.

At this point, I highly doubt we'll get an official 4.2 OTA update. I would've flashed a AOSP ROM if i didn't end up losing all the features that makes it different from other phones.
we've gotten every other update so why not 4.2, Samsung should get more credit when it comes to updating its phones.
Infected AOSP

I think he means all the motions and such. S-beam is also significantly better than android beam in my opinion.

Obviously you didn't click the link and see its a TW not aosp.

I know just saying aosp is better
At this point I believe touchwiz is better on the GS3. So many more functions and more stability. Okus better battery life for me.

Well the only motion thing I ever used was the feature of being in a text message and putting the phone to your ear and it will automatically call that person, and the Liquid Smooth has that feature, so I'm fine with it

I may end up switching to an aosp rom, but i like the camera on touchwiz better and if i can find apps that emulate touchwiz features (the ones i want are direct call, smart stay, smart rotation, and being able to view notifications in full screen apps)

I'm currently searching for the Note 2 Camera/Gallery only bc I really love the view in the gallery of the Note 2. Everything else is buttery smooth though. Like I said I have direct call (that's the feature I was talking about, the name of it slipped my mind), and smart stay is just a gimmick IMO. I do however feel ya on being able to view notifications in full screen apps, I miss that shiz.... but not enough to keep me away from the smoothness of Liquid Smooth lol.

I kinda agree that smart stay is kinda gimmicky. Half the time it doesn't work even when im in a well lit area. And if Direct Call is in the ROM i may check it out. How's the battery life though?
Just put it on my Nexus 7....and I just gotta say.....whoopty dooooo! LOL
Wouldn't know it was any different.
Those eager flashaholic beavers drooling for 4.3 roms to drop on the t989 are gonna be very underwhelmed.
My N7 isn't lagging as much as 4.2.2.....and that's about all I can say.
My t989 doesn't lag....so......4.3 for t989.....I'll pass....prolly just be a big crop of new issues to sort out....for nothing really.
For serious guys!

4.3 is pretty much just a patch....not an update. Probably geared towards the Nexus 7 and other devices that lagged bad on 4.2.2. It did improve that a bit.
But its pretty much just service pack 1 for 4.2.2. Lol

Awww shux.... I'll stick with Helly Bean 4.2.2 then thanks.

Did you guys have 16gb versions? Because I had the 32gb N7. I read that the memory in the 32gb was faster. I had cm10.1 with m-kernel and everything was fast, smooth and snappy. Scored a little over 15k in antutu.

Yeah I have the 16Gb version and I was primarily running Franco.kernel

the should just call it 4.2.3 lol

That's probably why. If you go on the N7 forums anyone with a 32gb is doing swell. Only people with 16gb versions are having performance quirks.

Just me personally ....for us I'd leave 4.3 alone. The glitches in 4.2.2 are finally getting smoothed out now.....and to start developing 4.3 and the new issues that will arise seems kinda pointless.

I think people should just let this phone die and move on. Developers can't keep supporting an aging device forever, and the t989 has had an amazing run support wise. What more do people want? I can't see this phone running better than it already does.

Some developers, just like I am, are stuck with thus phone awhile. So I'll appreciate further development. Just don't think working on 4.3 will be of any benefit. Just keep tweaking 4.2.2. It still isn't glitch free. We have 4.1.2 also for touchwiz fans. I see no point in worrying about 4.3....it brings nothing really to the table....except probably more glitches.
So I can't move on....but I agree our range of roms are working well enough.....just keep optimizing 4.1.2 and 4.2.2. 4.3 and key lime won't improve anything....just add more headaches. The t989 will probably lag out on key lime I'd guess.

The Hercules still has a another 18mts to 2yr expected shelf life in terms of being supported by tmobile, there not going to drop it anytime soon so I'm sure we can expect development to continue, like others have said some ppl aren't fortunate enough to be able to opt into a newer device so as for me, in going to continue to build roms kernels and mods for this device, Sammy is expected to bring it to official 4.2.2 , don't expect it soon but this device won't die until 4.2.2 is released, just like the s3 and note will all so updates at 4.2.2

People had that same negative attitude about G1 and HD2 as well and look how far and long they have come from there releases. My G1 had android 1.5 when I bought it and 2.3.7 when I sold it. My HD2 had windows phone 6.5 when I bought it when I sold it it was quad booting with CM10, Pacman, AOKP, and PA. But by all means feel free to move on to a newer "better" device. I am very happy with my GS2 I am running Hellybean, and seems faster than my buddys toro.
Yeah 4.3 doesn't look very exciting to me..yes it brings a few new features but overall there isn't much to get excited about.
But I may be proved wrong.. Well just have to see how this phone performs

I on other hand would love to see all future upgrades on this phone, Phone is still sold my tmobile so I don't see a reason why development should stop.. Also phone is well capable of handling 4.3 easily so why not? If you're like me who uses phone for emails, browsing, movies and minor gaming, This is a perfect phone.. Only thing I don't like about phone is battery drain during sleep and poor batter performance overall. everything else is just fine.. So yea I can't wait for someone to port future upgrades on this phone.

No one will disagree with you. But, if we aren't getting official 4.2.2 or 4.3 and up....development will halt or slow down at some point. Its inevitable. Personally I'll stick with 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 for now. Unless 4.3 is developed with no more glitches than 4.2.2 presently has. 4.3 adds nothing to the s2 really, so I won't run a rom that has too many problems when its no different than a previous version that's stable pretty much. 4.3 helped the Nexus 7 with its lag issues for sure, but that's it. But I think our phone doesn't have those lag issues like the N7, so 4.3 adds nothing that we don't already have.
Now key lime pie may add/change a lot.. if our phones can run it smoothly. So that may be worth all the issues porting it will bring.

KLP is said to run on a device with as little as 512mb ram, so if that's the case the Hercules should run it easily, maybe not allll the bells and whistles, I mean its old hardware and that has to count for something but I don't see why not ...I'll keep developing this phone as long as I have it, an if I can get klp to boot, I will share lol
