So I have a non-rooted sprint galaxy s3. My messaging app keeps popping up "unfortunately messaging has stopped" now I have researched the issue and I see people have the issue on some roms but haven't seen any for just stock.
I have tried a soft reset, hard reset, tried 3rd party apps and nothing works. Tried going to messaging app and clearing cache and data and nothing works. Only fix is a restart of phone. I am getting sick of restarting my phone to get my messages to work.
Please help!

Have you considered/tried a factory reset? It would require rooting, but what about uninstalling and re-installing the sms apk?
Alternatively, since you're still on stock you could take it into a sprint store.
I have already done a factory reset. No luck. I thought about rooting today, but my issue is if I do that I spend way too much time flashing roms and on xda

OK so I rooted, how would you suggest I uninstall and reinstall the messaging apk? I am on blazer rom and still getting this messaging issue.

Curious to see if anyone else has had this problem or can help. When I go to contacts to create a new one I get a black screen with save or cancel as an option. It freezes so I can't select either. Once the process fails I get a popup box with the process error name. This also happens when I try to save a number.

Forgot to mention I am not rooted and have tried turning the phone off and on. Also went into task manager and cleared the ram and active application tabs.

Try going into manage applications and clear cache for your contacts

what were you doing prior to this issue? Have you flashed or installed something recently?

Nope. Friend text me his new number, tried adding it to contacts, failed. Tried a different number, failed. Still waiting around a couple of more days to see if anyone else has had of has this problem before I factory restore.

If anyone comes to the same problem only way I found to fix this is with a factory reset.

Hey XDA,
After flashing the CM10 8/21 build, it seems as if my messaging app has been completely screwed up. For some reason, I can't get it to work. I get the error with an immediate close out:
"Unfortunately, Messaging has stopped."
Are there any fixes to this or an apk I can DL? I tried wiping data and cache of the app and even wiped my cache/dalvik, no dice.
Does anyone know of any messaging apps for CM10?
Thanks,
I tend to uninstall the stock messaging app in favor of Handcent which is available on the play store.

I'd wipe and reflash

Hello everyone,
I'm having an odd problem. The stock touchwiz messaging app won't display notifications. Any third party app will, and but the stock won't. I have tried clearing the data for the stock app, but that hasn't helped.
Any idea how to fix this?
Thanks.
Blue

Factory reset should help.
Make a backup of all your apps and data with Titanium Backup and your contacts with Google.

You probably already checked this but make sure the notifications are checked the settings of the messaging app itself.

Yes I did check, but thank you.
The only thing I can think of is I installed and uninstalled an app called slide messages. It has an option tondisabke broadcasting by stock sms. I unchecked this before uninstall though.

For some reason my play store keeps crashing, I've tried rebooting my phone, even clearing the data and ram from the play store... I don't get it..

Rooted? Rom? Kernel? Mods?
Have you cleared data and uninstalled updates? Then reboot and give it time to reupdate?
Try to Remove google account and re-enter info.
If no go then Reflash your rom

Completely stock, nothing custom. I've tried clearing it from the apps. I'll try to uninstall updates.

Tried deleting the play updates, still same issue.. this is so frustrating.

You may need to do the same on some other Google apps such as Google services framework and maybe a couple others that work along side the play store app. Can't remember them all right off hand.
When you say you're completely stock does this also mean you are not rooted? If you are rooted you can use titanium backup to backup all Google apps and data. Then clear data one by one till you find the culprit and then restore data for everything else.
Did you try deleting your account?

Completely stock, as I'm not rooted or anything. I tried everything, then I factory reset and its fixed.

Glad you got it fixed. I figured a factory reset would do it but was trying to help avoid it. But sometimes it's the only way....

Yeah I was going to avoid it. It was about time for a fresh start anyways.

Ok so i was running the note 2/3 rom I forget what it's called and my phone was randomly rebooting itself. So i wiped everything did a factory reset and went to install my old apps and i kept getting this stupid error when stuff from the market went to install. The same exact apps that were running on the same exact rom. So then i got fed up and wiped everything and installed the sks mk4 rom and I still have the same issue. What is going on with this?

Did you wipe the internal sdcard?

I found a little trick on the interwebs. Open up TB. Once it finishes loading, hit the menu key. Select batch operations. Scroll down and select the orphan data choice. Fixed me up a few times.

Well try the titanium backup method mentioned hopefully that will help. When changing roms it is alwats best to wipe your internal sdcard to avoid these kind of issues.

I had this last week. Couldn't get gmail to install, then a different app. Since I was using philz, there wasn't a fix permissions. If you're not using that recovery, try fixing permissions. If you are, use the app rom toolbox lite to fix it.
Ok so the titanium backup method worked as far as I can tell. Everything has installed since I did that. Now my problem is for some reason xda app keeps disappearing. The icon stays on my home screen but disappears from my app drawer. When I click on the shortcut on my home screen it tells me app isn't installed. Then I have to go to play store re install it and click the same shortcut and it opens
