Please help... My wifi no longer works. I think I may have stuffed my phone.. - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I flashed crash and omega rom yesterday, but i didn't like them, so i reverted back to stick from a Cwm backup..
But now when I try to connect to wifi networks, it gives a error saying the signal is too weak (it really isn't, as all my other devices connect)
I have tried on a few different wifi networks, and none of them work.
I would rather not have to flash a stock rom with Odin again, as i dont trust mobile Odin, and I can't get on my pc at the moment.
Here is a screen shot of the error msg..

Did you check Md5 and did a full clean flash? (Format Data, System, Cache, Dalvik, Factory Reset)
Mobile Odin is reliable

Hi,
Yes the md5 was fine.
I would rather not have to do a clean install, as i have all my game data on the internal sd card, and when I flash a new rom with Odin I loose all that data.
And when I try backing it up to the ext sd, and them copy it back afterwards, the games always seems to not notice the data is there, and try and re download.
But i guess I will just have to try doing a clean install tomorrow.
Thanks..
Cheers
Corey

This is PRECISELY the problem I have with ANY 4.1.2 ROM as listed in the thread I started about it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044249
Go into CWM and do a full wipe (cache, data, dalvik and I also do battery to make me feel better).
Then restore.
I personally can flash ANY 4.1.2 ROM (I have tried the earlier leaks and now Wannam 2.1 and ARHD 6.0 as well as stock Polish PLAY but I am confident Omega would do it too) and I instantly get your wifi issues.
I just go back into CWM and restore from my backup (no need to wipe as restore does a full job of wiping over) and as soon as I am back to my old 4.1.1 system (which happens to be ARHD 4.1) everything works fine again.

[Q] Defy is dead

I had a lot of issues this last days. I had Miui 2.3.7c froyo and I tried to free my defy from vodafone with this tutorial. Didn't work properly (probably my fault) and it brick my cell.
Trying lots of stuff I finaly booted it flashing to 2.3.6 (GB DEFY+). Everything was bugged and I tried to flash back to froyo, the only thing I could do was flashing to chinesse froyo rom with RSDLite.
Then the cell was working properly, but it was a horrible rom. So I flashed to CM9 ICS, it looked great. Unfortunately, my pc couldnt find my device while connected by USB, neither Wifi were working. I tried to free from vodafone flashing "ICS_Defy_softunlock_v1.3(EPU_U_00.59.01).zip" but didnt work.
Tired of making it worse for each time I try to fix it, I flashed to my original ROM (Vodafone 3.4.2) that totaly kill my cell.
Now I can only use bootloader (no recovery). All I want is to free my DEFY.
As you have seen, I'm not good at this things. All help will be appreciate
EDIT: now I've flash again to chinese rom, at least works.
With China ROM... restore nAndroid backup of ur stock rom and u should be good...

China recovery doesnt have that option (only wipe data, wipe cache and install update), I'll try installing 2ndinit.
Edit: Installed 2ndinit, dont have any option tu restore nAndroid backup from Custom Recovery (from 2ndinit).
Here a pic of the china recovery

I'm already in custom recovery, but nAndroid backup can only be done from Stock (not sure).
I've research and I think that installing Clockworkmod recovery will let me do nAndroid backup.
Help is appreciated, I'm noob at this.
I supose theres no way to go back to Vodafone 3.4.2. But I tried everything.
This are my choices:
Chinese Rom -> no google accounts(no market), no internet (only wifi), annoying sounds and interface.
Flashing to custom roms from chinese froyo (tried CM7 and CM9) -> no internet, no USB connection.
Upgrading to 2.3.6 -> no camera, no wifi (I have green len).
Flashing to custom roms from 2.3.6 -> no camera, no wifi, constant blocks.
What can I do? I only want a full working rom...
Best option is CM7 then. If you do it right you will have WIFI. probably forgot to wipe data/cache.
To get the best results: root, download cm7 (7.2.0rc cause it has latest kernel in it) and place on your sd, instal 2nt init (apk is in dev thread), reboot, power off, power on, press volume down when the led flashes, recovery > custom or latest (not stock). Then wipe data and cache from there, instal zip > the zip you downloaded earlier.
Reboot and off you go.

[Q] Need help with wallet on rooted VZW Galaxy Nexus TORO CM10

Trying to add google wallet to my VZW Galaxy Nexus Toro. I've found an .apk that I could get to load (1.5-R79-v5.apk).
However, CM10-20121011-Experimental-toro-M2 does not have an option to turn on NFC. Looks like CM removed it.
Any solutions to this other than running a different ROM?
Has anyone had success running this on BAMF or AOKP? I've flashed those ROMS and been happy with both.
TIA
NFC is in the same place it's always been on M2. Settings>more
Not on my phone...now i'm more concerned...

Hmm that is really strange! It should be there. Maybe download again, check md5 sum, and clean flash.

I think I saw this problem on another forum for a different Samsung phone.
When you say clean flash, you mean wipe cache partition & dalvik. Would you do a wipe data/factory reset? I'm talking about CWM of course.
Thanks!

Personally I would wipe data/factory reset (and if restoring with TiBU only restore apps - NOT data), but you could try cache & dalvik first and see if that works for you. If you start experiencing random reboots then you may want to install again clean - as in factory reset. The reason I say you may want to wipe data is because I have experienced reboots when dirty flashing ROM upgrades so I usually always install clean now.. So if you recently dirty flashed M2, might want to consider a data wipe clean install, if NFC is missing maybe other things are too.
And what .apk are you getting to work on this? Am I using a good one?
Also, what GAPPS are you using?
I was using a package that never let me sync to google - I had grey bars instead of blue bars.
Thanks

I've tried wiping and flashing a bunch of times. Now I'm getting the old "secure element error".
UGH.
Probably gonna just forget it and try flashing another rom for fun.
Is there a way to fix this secure element issue?

The only posts I've seen that might work require restoring a nandroid of when Wallet last worked & then re-setting the app before flashing something else.

Did you flash the gapps from the pa thread? You have to have those for all that stuff to work. Make sure its the PA gapps because they've made some changes to them, somehow.

I'm not sure then, you might have to reflash everything. I don't know what else to try. I've never had that particular issue. Was it a dirty flash over another version? I'd make a backup, do a clean install, and see if the problem is still there. Worst case, if it is still there, you can restore your backup. If not, then maybe the install had a brain fart. Have you tried reflashing PA and gapps and wipe cache and dalvik on this install? (Sorry if I'm rambling, I'm half asleep)
It doesnt look like you are connected to any network at all. Your wifi and signal icons are greyed out. Thats why you are getting that message.

Does it go online with a cellular connection or just wifi? Check Settings>About Phone>Status>IMEI and see what the number is. I don't know why, but that was the first thing I though when I reread this thread is that maybe you've had your EFS partition wiped. I "think" if it's a real IMEI it will start with a 3, but a generic unusable one will start with a 1. I don't know if that would affect Google Connection, but it might.
Also, have you tried redownloading the ROM and GAPPS?
Did you set correct Date & Time settings? Cuz it's important to log in GG account.

Grey means connected, blue is connected to the Google servers. The OP has a connection just not to Google

IMEI is 0 -- ODIN restore?

Sadly, it seems my IMEI has been set to zero.
I can still make calls and text, but my data is on Edge network only.
I've been doing some searching and reading (by some I mean a lot) and I guess I'm getting a little confused in it all.
Would using ODIN to reset my phone to stock fix the IMEI?
I have the IMEI on a sticker on the phone, could TMobile reset the IMEI for me?
Thanks in advance.
Swap it if you have insurance. If not search xda for fix.

Yes Odin will fix the Issue. Please choose correct firmware to flash via Odin.
Thanks for the response.
Trying to confirm I get the RIGHT rom for my device.
Went to sammobile.com/firmwares/
Looking at all the options for SGH-T999, do I have to made basebands to what I have now (T999UVDLJA) which is dated Oct 2012, or is that something that gets "updated" if I apply the latest rom (March 2014)?
Depends on what you had before all these problems. You must choose that same version otherwise you may hard brick the phone.
*sigh*
And I suppose there's no way to know that? I don't have a back up or anything...
Is there anyway to determine?
Thanks for your help and direction thus far!
Oh Sure. There are other ways to determine. If possible post a photo of the download screen. Otherwise type out exactly what you see when the phone is in download mode.

I'm assuming that is the info you were looking for?
Yes that's what I needed. I suggest please use UVDMD5 Version of Root66 to flash via Odin.
Excellent.
So follow directions and get files from here?: http://www.androidayos.com/2013/05/...y-bean-without-binary-flash-counter-increase/
Well. Yes. I'd direct you to the Thread here under Android Development.
Yeap. The link I posted actually takes you back to the link you provided.
Both bookmarked.
I hope to do this tonight.
If I understand this correctly, this should flash my phone back to stock with my valid IMEI
Using this Route66 I will have root on the phone and should then be able to do a CM install if I choose?
Yes and yes.
If that is your desire, then while you are in Odin, flash a custom Recovery such as TWRP or CWM as well.

... I will have to research on how to do that too then.
First concern is getting the IMEI back so that I can actually USE the phone with data -- regardless if it's CM or stock OS.
As the UVDMD5 will have correct modem, hopefully that will restore IMEI. Otherwise we may have to see what happens.
hmmm sort of seems to have worked... stuck at the "SAMSUNG" screen though.
Reading other links says I should have cleared cache before doing?
Hmmm cleared cache.
Did factory reset.
Still stuck at pulsating "SAMSUNG" logo...
Ok got into phone... ugh is stock ROM just painful. Who designs these things?!?!
Sadly, IMEI is still set at 0
this doesn't seem to have worked

Can't TMobile just restore the IMEI if I take it to one of their stores?

So...I'm no longer under warranty thru Sprint, but still have hardware coverage. So my Sprint store said in not so many words that playing with my software is a go.
So I haven't done a root since my lg2 so I'm way out of the loop. I've been reading thru the forums here but all confusing and not very organized.

First off, you need Odin. It's a must, can't do anything without it.
Next you need to download TWRP custom recovery (Team Win Recovery Project) and use Odin to flash it.
From there, go into twrp on your phone and flash superuser to root your phone. OR if you're going for a rom, make a backup, go to wipe, advanced wipe, and select dalvik, system, data, and cache, perform a wipe, then flash the rom you choose. Most roms come prerooted anyway so you won't need to manually flash for root.
Hope this helps.
