So...I'm no longer under warranty thru Sprint, but still have hardware coverage. So my Sprint store said in not so many words that playing with my software is a go.
So I haven't done a root since my lg2 so I'm way out of the loop. I've been reading thru the forums here but all confusing and not very organized.

First off, you need Odin. It's a must, can't do anything without it.
Next you need to download TWRP custom recovery (Team Win Recovery Project) and use Odin to flash it.
From there, go into twrp on your phone and flash superuser to root your phone. OR if you're going for a rom, make a backup, go to wipe, advanced wipe, and select dalvik, system, data, and cache, perform a wipe, then flash the rom you choose. Most roms come prerooted anyway so you won't need to manually flash for root.
Hope this helps.

As the tile says, I need some help, possibly a walkthrough tutorial, on how to get from rooted stock FJ12 to Dirty Unicorns 4.2 ROM on my SPH-D710VMUB (Virgin Mobile). I had it running fine at one point and then things got screwed up after I updated to 4.3 and tried making to modifications to fix some issues I was having, so I had to revert back to rooted stock. And now, for the life of me I cannot remember how I got there. Any new ROM I attempt to install via recovery throws an error (error 7 if I recall correctly) and will not install.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you mean DU 4.3..
Make sure first you're on an ICS modem...if not. Flash it in recovery on the tw ROM you're on now so you can update prl/profile..If you need a cwm recovery for the stock ROM you're on..Look in rwilco12 repo for a custom kernel with cwm for you're build..
This is how I flashed it..
Boot to cwm on current ROM...
Wipe data, cache, dalvik cache and format system
Flash DU 4.3...wait
When it's done...Don't Reboot..Go to advanced and pick reboot recovery
When new recovery comes up....do the wipes again
Now flash DU 4.3 again
Reboot when its done..
Let it settle for a few ...
Boot to cwm
Flash gapps...reboot..
Enjoy...:good:
Thanks. I'll give it a try when I have time in the near future.
The issue that I'm having is that recovery won't flash anything and just gives me an error every time. Is there a way to upgrade the recovery without switching modems?
Mobile Odin, PC Odin... You probably have the stock kernel, which won't flash anything.

Find cwm in tar format and flash it using pc or mobile Odin.

Mobile Odin is an app that allows you to flash kernels in tar format... Find it here on XDA.
Thank you for your help. If I continue to have problems I will continue the conversation later, but for now I'm going to try a touchwiz based ROM since battery life on stock seems so much better.
I'm following these exact steps and I can't get 3G nor 4G to work.
I used ODIN to get ICS stock rooted, then installed the CWM Kernel, and installed DU 4.3.
Any help here.. I've been going crazy for months trying to get this to work.
Thank you.

I've tried different scenarios of installing a different Virgin Mobile modems after doing a full wipe/cash/etc. I've also tried doing a stock install of JB (after trying a stock VM ICS) before i wiped and installed DU 4.3. I read somewhere that 3G and 4G for Virgin doesn't work on the new DU 4.3.
Hi everyone... I tried looking for the answer to my question but didn't find any thread that covered the information for latest firmware (Samsung introduces something new everytime!).
So, I was using Pheonix ROM v17 with the MJ5 Bootloader, and then installed Android Revolution HD 20.1 (I don't know which BL I'm now using)!
I never flashed a stock rom using odin or through some other source below.
Now I want to flash the stock rooted and deodexed firmware. The OP doesn't tell anything specifically about a bootloader. We have to flash the rom through the recovery.
My question is, that if I install that rom via recovery, will my bootloader change? Will there be any recovery issues? Will I be able to re-flash other roms like the ARHD? Please tell me, because I am experiencing some serious issues with the battery and I hope that a clean stock install would fix this...
Any help would be highly appreciated!

Bootloader won't change irrespective of what which ROM you flash,i am using philz touch recovery ever since i was on 4.1.2 and now i am running 4.4.2 probam version and been on mj5 bootloader ever since i made the jump from 4.1.2
Recovery CAN NOT flash bootloader, so whatever you flash from recovery be assured that your bootloader will stay the same. The only way to flash bootloader is through ODIN or regular KIES/OTA update....
Thank you so much for the reply. I can finally flash in peace!

If you are on STOCK, then yes, that would be through OTA or via KIES. But as I said - you would have to be STOCK in order to receive update.

Sadly, it seems my IMEI has been set to zero.
I can still make calls and text, but my data is on Edge network only.
I've been doing some searching and reading (by some I mean a lot) and I guess I'm getting a little confused in it all.
Would using ODIN to reset my phone to stock fix the IMEI?
I have the IMEI on a sticker on the phone, could TMobile reset the IMEI for me?
Thanks in advance.
Swap it if you have insurance. If not search xda for fix.

Yes Odin will fix the Issue. Please choose correct firmware to flash via Odin.
Thanks for the response.
Trying to confirm I get the RIGHT rom for my device.
Went to sammobile.com/firmwares/
Looking at all the options for SGH-T999, do I have to made basebands to what I have now (T999UVDLJA) which is dated Oct 2012, or is that something that gets "updated" if I apply the latest rom (March 2014)?
Depends on what you had before all these problems. You must choose that same version otherwise you may hard brick the phone.
*sigh*
And I suppose there's no way to know that? I don't have a back up or anything...
Is there anyway to determine?
Thanks for your help and direction thus far!
Oh Sure. There are other ways to determine. If possible post a photo of the download screen. Otherwise type out exactly what you see when the phone is in download mode.

Yes that's what I needed. I suggest please use UVDMD5 Version of Root66 to flash via Odin.
Excellent.
So follow directions and get files from here?: http://www.androidayos.com/2013/05/...y-bean-without-binary-flash-counter-increase/
Well. Yes. I'd direct you to the Thread here under Android Development.
Yeap. The link I posted actually takes you back to the link you provided.
Both bookmarked.
I hope to do this tonight.
If I understand this correctly, this should flash my phone back to stock with my valid IMEI
Using this Route66 I will have root on the phone and should then be able to do a CM install if I choose?
Yes and yes.
If that is your desire, then while you are in Odin, flash a custom Recovery such as TWRP or CWM as well.

... I will have to research on how to do that too then.
First concern is getting the IMEI back so that I can actually USE the phone with data -- regardless if it's CM or stock OS.
As the UVDMD5 will have correct modem, hopefully that will restore IMEI. Otherwise we may have to see what happens.
hmmm sort of seems to have worked... stuck at the "SAMSUNG" screen though.
Reading other links says I should have cleared cache before doing?
Hmmm cleared cache.
Did factory reset.
Still stuck at pulsating "SAMSUNG" logo...
Ok got into phone... ugh is stock ROM just painful. Who designs these things?!?!
Sadly, IMEI is still set at 0
this doesn't seem to have worked

ARGGGHHHH Are you serious? Googling now, but this looks much more complicated compares to Odin
Can't TMobile just restore the IMEI if I take it to one of their stores?
I have managed to root my device after the 10P firmware! FYI, I used Android Kingo Root.
After looking into many posts, forums, etc... I have come to the conclusion that unlocking the bootloader is going to be trickier than any other device I have been successful with. I want to install CM 10.2 and CWM 6+, however, I cannot find solid information on how to unlock the bootloader for this unit. I would have liked to install the latest 4.4.2 from AT&T, but the device was rooted prior and AT&T will not honor the phone for the upgrade. At this point, I feel it would be easier to just install a custom ROM instead of trying to put the AT&T stock back into the unit.
Most of the info I see seems overly tricky and doubtful. I have downloaded FreeGee, but, in version 1.9.23 there isn't an option for unlock or disable security,(I have emailed the devs for the app). I also have gprorecovery.apk, but, I am deathly afraid to use it as I cannot find ANY material about it anywhere and I am worried to brick the one phone I absolutely love.
If someone has the knowledge, please share. Also, feel free to add in your experience and pitfalls with this device after manipulating the software. I am not 100% sold on CM, so if you want to suggest a great ROM...Feel free.
I appreciate the help and suggestions in advance.

Once you install recovery press power + volume up (asuming you powered down or resetted your device of course) until the lg logo appears ( some white letters will appear on the top left corner, release power button when they do). That will take you to the recovery. I'm. Using a cwm/twrp combo. I flash everything i need with cwm, twrp i keep since this phone has a tendency of going into a recovery bootloop and only twrp can get you out of it. Always keep your flashing files on the internal storage, sometimes flashing from sd card wont work.

Okay, you are most likely still stock kernel with recovery installed. Rooted no problem.
Recovery will break knock code unless you flash another kernel that has it.
Before doing anything, know that nobody really has a custom zvd Rom out right now. Artifesto put out a stock version.
You can easily go back to zvc which you lose knock code, art, and hd calling.
Super g2 Rom is fantastic and you can even go with their full Rom or bare back ( slimmed version)
To get recovery which will put a older kernel on it. Easiest way is to use auto-rec from

Read the first couple posts. Before running it and ask what you want from me.
This gets recovery running and fixes download mode. (Vital if something bad happens)

The only thing I am really wanting to do is bypass the wifi hotspot on the phone since Sprint has a block on it. Wasn't sure, I thought I read somewhere that there is a modication I can install to do that, but I didn't want to do it without talking with you first.
