Hi everyone... I tried looking for the answer to my question but didn't find any thread that covered the information for latest firmware (Samsung introduces something new everytime!).
So, I was using Pheonix ROM v17 with the MJ5 Bootloader, and then installed Android Revolution HD 20.1 (I don't know which BL I'm now using)!
I never flashed a stock rom using odin or through some other source below.
Now I want to flash the stock rooted and deodexed firmware. The OP doesn't tell anything specifically about a bootloader. We have to flash the rom through the recovery.
My question is, that if I install that rom via recovery, will my bootloader change? Will there be any recovery issues? Will I be able to re-flash other roms like the ARHD? Please tell me, because I am experiencing some serious issues with the battery and I hope that a clean stock install would fix this...
Any help would be highly appreciated!

Bootloader won't change irrespective of what which ROM you flash,i am using philz touch recovery ever since i was on 4.1.2 and now i am running 4.4.2 probam version and been on mj5 bootloader ever since i made the jump from 4.1.2
Recovery CAN NOT flash bootloader, so whatever you flash from recovery be assured that your bootloader will stay the same. The only way to flash bootloader is through ODIN or regular KIES/OTA update....
Thank you so much for the reply. I can finally flash in peace!

If you are on STOCK, then yes, that would be through OTA or via KIES. But as I said - you would have to be STOCK in order to receive update.
So, i just flashed this rom and im getting this error with the supersu...

I already do it and nothing. Does anyone know if I update the firmware to 1.36 (my CID is HTC__044) and flash stock boot.img will work? Anyone can provide me just the boot.img file?
And if I flash the stock RUU 2.17.707.3 (which is the one I got) I don't have to update the firmware manually?
All I want is to update to stock JB via OTA.
Thanks.
What is the question?
The fact you got the update means you are good to go. Probably if you boot in bootloader it says re-locked?
The update will update your hboot to 1.36 and firmware to stock 3.14
Where you will lose cwm and root.
If you want root then you need to re-unlock it by cmd and with unlock file you got from the first time.

The question is why I can't update?. As I say already flash stock recovery, and I have the bootloader unlocked.
But what happens when you try to update?

After download the update, the phone reboot and an exclamation red icon appears, then reboot again and you can see that nothing is updated.
Did you got the smaller update too or not? When i flashed stock recovery from RUU i got the small battery update first.
Do you have stock recovery from when you unlocked the phone?

Yes, also I flashed again but nothing. I think that the problem might be that I uninstall some bloatware apps. Anyone know which bloatware apps are updated with the OTA update?
Ah that's the problem, your rom has to be as it came out of the box ! Otherwise it won't work
I should back this rom up and copy it to pc, then run the matching ruu to get back to stock or get the matching nandroid backup in the general section - nandroid backup collection from matt95 !
It's he easiest way in my opinion
As the tile says, I need some help, possibly a walkthrough tutorial, on how to get from rooted stock FJ12 to Dirty Unicorns 4.2 ROM on my SPH-D710VMUB (Virgin Mobile). I had it running fine at one point and then things got screwed up after I updated to 4.3 and tried making to modifications to fix some issues I was having, so I had to revert back to rooted stock. And now, for the life of me I cannot remember how I got there. Any new ROM I attempt to install via recovery throws an error (error 7 if I recall correctly) and will not install.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you mean DU 4.3..
Make sure first you're on an ICS modem...if not. Flash it in recovery on the tw ROM you're on now so you can update prl/profile..If you need a cwm recovery for the stock ROM you're on..Look in rwilco12 repo for a custom kernel with cwm for you're build..
This is how I flashed it..
Boot to cwm on current ROM...
Wipe data, cache, dalvik cache and format system
Flash DU 4.3...wait
When it's done...Don't Reboot..Go to advanced and pick reboot recovery
When new recovery comes up....do the wipes again
Now flash DU 4.3 again
Reboot when its done..
Let it settle for a few ...
Boot to cwm
Flash gapps...reboot..
Enjoy...:good:
Thanks. I'll give it a try when I have time in the near future.
The issue that I'm having is that recovery won't flash anything and just gives me an error every time. Is there a way to upgrade the recovery without switching modems?
Mobile Odin, PC Odin... You probably have the stock kernel, which won't flash anything.

Find cwm in tar format and flash it using pc or mobile Odin.

Mobile Odin is an app that allows you to flash kernels in tar format... Find it here on XDA.
Thank you for your help. If I continue to have problems I will continue the conversation later, but for now I'm going to try a touchwiz based ROM since battery life on stock seems so much better.
I'm following these exact steps and I can't get 3G nor 4G to work.
I used ODIN to get ICS stock rooted, then installed the CWM Kernel, and installed DU 4.3.
Any help here.. I've been going crazy for months trying to get this to work.
Thank you.

I've tried different scenarios of installing a different Virgin Mobile modems after doing a full wipe/cash/etc. I've also tried doing a stock install of JB (after trying a stock VM ICS) before i wiped and installed DU 4.3. I read somewhere that 3G and 4G for Virgin doesn't work on the new DU 4.3.

Yes this is only the firmware, and No, you can't flash the OTA over a custom ROM. Currently you have to be completely stock.

Well, this bricked my phone. Was running CM11 and had flashed the ND8 modem earlier, which didn't cause any problems. Then I flashed this file in custom recovery, rebooted to find that I had zero cell phone signal, attempted to reboot into download to flash the update.zip file I got from the ota thread, ended up with a phone that does nothing at all. Am I to understand that I'm stuck like this until I buy an SD card reader and install/run a live CD of linux?
Link removed. This is the second account of bricking from flashing this file that I've received, even though I had no issues when flashing.
As of now, the only way I'd recommend of updating to anything ND8 related (including the modem) would be to flash the stock tar in the android dev section and go from there.

Could this be caused by Custom Recovery TWRP 2.7?
Battery is at 30%, but I don't think it has anything to do with this.

Stock Rom? If so, it will only install with stock recovery.
TWRP recovery only installs custom Rom/s and custom Rom updates (if the custom Rom supports ota updates).

Follow the link I have posted. On the first post there are stock roms.Scroll down a bit and It is written in BIG LETTERS Stock Recoveries.Download the recovery which you need. Then flash it via fastboot. For RUU to work you need to have a stock recovery.
If you are a sprint owner check this thread.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2736048 Read the OP very carefully before posting.
So last week my note started to receive the networksystemprovider error and the only way I can get it to stop popping up every 5 seconds is to freeze it, but then I cannot receive any text. So I was hoping to just update the phone but it has been so long since I did anything to it I am very confused on how.

What are you currently running? Stock rooted OG5 with initial release of Beastmode?
You should remove ItsOn if running custom kernel- unless you know how to remove it. I've seen ItsOn try to repeatedly to activate itself- but can't with custom kernel. It prompts or forces reboots with no end after the user factory resets in recovery when leaving fragments of ItsOn in internal memory.
I don't know what you want to do but there's many choices:
If you're looking for customization on lollipop, checkout Moar 2.1b One day marshmallow will have a ported ROM of this caliber or better.
If you're looking for stability and maybe something a bit faster, try a marshmallow custom ROM.
Just a couple of examples. Find a ROM and follow the OP install instructions closely. That most likely means using the stock tar flash in Odin to update to suggested update and turning off automatic updates before the update nag starts. But don't go back any farther than OG5 with Odin; the bootloader won't allow the older stock tars to flash.
I was actually to go to stock marshmallow but with root like I have know. I have never been really into trying all the different roms I just want to have root for the Hotspot. I tried to look through the thread but I just get more confused.

Which thread is confusing? Hotspot, update and root (aka stock tar thread in general forum) or custom ROM threads?
Which hotspot method are you using or prefer? I believe the non root method requires a do over on each boot. Don't use much at all but I prefer permanent myself for the other benefits custom services.jar provides.
That network error is caused by ItsOn not being fully removed and the custom kernel not supporting it. If you use stock kernel, you could leave ItsOn intact but some consider it a privacy and battery liability: unneeded bloat and potentially problematic.
