Right, a fastboot erase cache after flashing a boot.img is always a wise move. Glad you solved your problem.

fastboot flash boot boot.img - boot.img will be permanently in your device until you flash another one.
fastboot boot boot.img - boot.img is temporarily installed, once reboot, the old boot.img is effective. The same can be applied to a recovery.img. You can test a recovery whether it works correctly without installing it permanently. Let say yours is CWM recovery and you want to try TWRP, just fastboot boot TWRP.img, device will boot to recovery with TWRP, once reboot, your old CWM still there, no need reflashing.

[Q] Need Help to reflash

Hello everybody
To begin my announce, i wish to scuse if you will have difficulties to understand some phrases I'm trying to explain, I'm french and I've don't practice English since 5 or 6 years, so... sorry in advance.
Let me you explain :
Yesterday, I was under ARHD 15 onto my One X and I've tried to put CM10.
So, with fastboot mode : I've erased cache, flashed the boot.img situated into the CM archive, and re-erased the cache.
After that, I've gone into the Recovery mode and I've tried to flash the rom and the gapps archive. I've wipe cache/factory reset and wipe dalvik cache.
But when I've tried to reboot One X, I can't access to the rom, it stays "frozzen" onto HTC Quietly brilliant screen.
I've tried also to flash EPRJROM ENEDEAVORUCM10_0.15 after to have flash his boot.img into fastboot mode
My infos in Recovery Mode:
*** UNLOCKED ***
ENDEAVORU PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.31.0000
CPLD-None
MICROP-None
RADIO-5.1204.162.29
eMMC-bootmode: disabled
CPU-bootmode: disabled
HW Secure Boot : Enabled
Modem Path : off
Oct 18 2012,20:49:20
Can someone help me, please... ? I spent 4 hours to understand what the f*** but without to find a solution
A big thank to people who can help me to have my phone working before tomorrow

Yes, I did it. I'ts written into my announce
Since you are on hboot 1.31, you can't use the boot.img inside the zip. You have to download the one towards the bottom of op for official cm10 thread. It's modified by mdeejay for new hboots. Flash that boot.img. A reminder gps doesn't work in modified boot.img

Don't do it after flashing the new rom only before !
Very sorry for delay, I've worked all the day.
So : I've found the boot.img modified by mdeejay but I've tried during 4 hours to run the script which allows to charge battery when it's under 3.68V. But I feel that battery won't up to 3694, I feel that battery can charge anymore.
So, I don't know what to do. I've tried to flash with "All in One HTC Kit by Hasoon'2000" the boot.img or the CWM to enter into recovery (to charge fully my battery) but when I try to acess into recovery by bootloader, I can see the menu screen but only during 0.5 seconds.
I'm lost. What should I do that I've forgot... ?
I'm sorry for fr-english but I try to don't use reverso.net or google translate because of translations are too "word to word"... :/
A big thank to all members who read what I'm writing
Try the "fastboot erase cache" command from your pc first. Then, enter he following command
Fastboot reboot-bootloader
From there, try entering the cwm recovery

Thanks man,
I'ts okay, I can access to recovery now
One question before askkin an another one : HTC charge the battery when I'm under CWM ?
So, others questions :
I've done a erase cache, a flash of new boot.img, a second erase cache. I've enter in recovery mod, make on USS storage mass for put the last CM10 nightly. Do I put the new boot.img that I flashed just before with JBFWTOOL14 into the last nightly instead of the boot.img present in the archive ?
If you flashed cwm recovery 5.8.4.0 then yes it charges.
As for second question, reboot to recovery AFTER you copy rom to sdcard in recovery. Otherwise, you may not access sdcard in recovery.

No need for the tool. You already flashed the boot.img. Since the one in rom.zip won't get flashed due to s-on, you don't need to include it in zip file.

Really, it's very pleasant to see how members help other members into this forum, I've never seen it before. A big thank to you.
buuuuuttttt lool I've done everything you've advised me and... it boots and freeze on HTC quietly brilliant
Whhyy ? What's going on ?
To resume all that I've done since I've this problem :
I've erased cache, flash boot.img took on mdeejay site, re erase cache. Reboot the bootloader, go into CWM after flashed it, have put on internal SD the last nightly, 've flashed that, have reboot and arrive again and again on this screen of HTC. It boot again and again when he arrives on HTC screen...
I've forgot something... ?
I need to flash a kernel like Syrius to resolve this problem ? Why this screen ?
Don't forget that before, I was onto ARHD 15, soooooo maybe I've flashed something wrong which don't let me flash correctly CM10 ?
Big thanks to you
The only thing I can think of is this:
1 go to cwm, factory wipe, then go to mounts and storage in cwm, then format /system, /data and /cache
2 flash the latest CM10 nightly first in cwm.
3 reboot bootloader and go to fastboot.
4 use "fastboot flash boot boot.img" command and "fastboot erase cache" command in this order. Use mdeejay's modified boot.img for flashing.
5 now reboot phone
It should work.

Can you try an older nightly? Like Oct 29th. If that fails, try repacking the latest nightly kernel with mdeejay's ramdisk using an online repacker, such as nibble.cc

If you are getting the recovery screen when normal booting you have probably flashed the recovery onto the boot partition with fastboot flash boot recovery.img instead of fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
You will need the boot.img for the mainver that you have
And need to flash it with fastboot flash boot boot.img
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Yep, start over with flashing.
First the recovery
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Fastboot erase cache
Then you flash the boot.img from the new rom ! (Its inside the rom.zip)
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Fastboot erase cache
Then enter the recovery and make a full wipe
Wipe cache, dalvik cache, factory reset, format cache, system and data
Then install the new rom.zip
I did it every thing went fine this time and my HOX is fully rooted and fully working Thank you Mr Hofs
Case......
Ah good to hear that !
And yes....another
CASE CLOSED !

[Q][HELP][SOLVED] Fastboot can't send boot.img to my phone

I think I really screwed up my phone, I was trying to get my Google play store working on my phone by adjusting the Dpi (read it somewhere on the internet), so I rebooted and it wouldn't load my rom/system anymore. But the problem now is, is that I can't acces my sd card with HBOOT or similar things, fastboot does see my device but if I try sending files to it the next error appears:
C:\Users\Elke\Desktop\r1-primo-superboot>fastboot flash system shpongle.zip
sending 'system' (131180 KB)... FAILED (command write failed (Unknown error))
Als this error keeps occuring:
C:\Users\Elke\Desktop\r1-primo-superboot>fastboot flash boot boot.img
< waiting for device >
sending 'boot' (2988 KB)... FAILED (status malformed (1 bytes))
Does anybody know what I should do to get my phone working again? Because I really need my phone (it contains all my appointments and homework and stuff)
PS: If you need more information on my phone just ask for it and I'll try my best to find it!
PPS: Thanks in advance!

heyy man, if you have a custom recovery already installed, use that to wipe your phone and install the new rom
then pull the boot.img out of the rom .zip you are trying to use, then you need to "fastboot flash boot d:/boot.img" (of course, to your boot.img location)
hope this helps

Dammit again
I have to go to school in about 2 minutes so here is the status of my phone

-In bootloader when I select my customrecovery (TWRP) it shows HTC with a loadboar in the right-upper corner, then that loadingbar disappears and it shows just HTC (with red lettering underneath : This build... etc) and gets stuck again.
Thanks for the help so far but my phone is still broken dammit :c
Since you've got fastboot working again, re flash your custom recovery first.
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Then boot into recovery.
Now you can go into >advance>mount>mount USB storage
( using TWPR )
Copy the custom Rom to your pc
Unmount USB storage move to >wipe cashe, dalvick cache, factory reset, system
Wipe everything.
Move to > install and flash Rom
Once install is finished click the wipe cashe/dalvick.
Go back to the home screen in TWRP click >reboot> bootloader
Now flash your kernel. fastboot flash boot boot.img
Once finished fastboot reboot
I think you might have had a bad recovery flash.

yep feel your pain, I dont get an error, the device just dont show up, pc doesn't recognize it, thought it might have been Win 8 and drivers not working so went on a WinXP PC installed drivers and JBFWTool which supposedly does everything but make coffee and my f*&$% phone went flat,
so far I have spent 10 solid hrs on it trying a thousand things to fix it and I'm no further advanced than I was 10 hrs ago, I'm just about over it as well

but once again I am having probs with the PC seeing the phone when I flash an img file it says it flashed successfully but I dont know if it has or not,
do u upgrade the the recovery by flashing it frm the PC?
Yes put the file in the fastboot folder on the pc and rename it to recovery.img
Then open the command window in that folder, hold shift + right click and open command window here
Then flash it
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Fastboot erase cache
And while you are at it.
Fastboot getvar version-main
That will tell me the firmware you need to flash to upgrade the hboot if you didn't do that yet. Can't say if you need the same firmware as the thread where you got redirected to !

Restore your backup and then before flashing cyanogenmod rom flash the boot.img from the zip of cyanogenmod rom

Thanks mate can now see the light at the end of a very long tunnel lol used a different PC and got the recovery updated just waiting for the correct HBOOT version to flash then install the rom and back in business and I have a phone again after 12 hrs with out one. how did we ever survive before mobile phones lol
Aha Optus Australia ! I want you to run a ruu and update via official ota, because the stock backups for Optus are rare. And if you want to be able to update to sense 5 then you 100& need a stock backup !!!
Here is the ruu
http://bugsylawson.com/files/file/1...11-radio-1120410514-release-260560-signedexe/
Relock the bootloader :
Fastboot oem lock
Then keep the phone in the bootloader and execute the ruu.exe from the pc with administrator rights ! Right click it and select run as administrator
It will flash the phone back to full stock, stock rom, recovery and kernel.
Note : it will wipe EVERYTHING.

Gr8 thanks for that, looks like a lot more messing around but should be worth it in the long run I hope, u relock and unlock the bootloader in recovery don't u? I think I saw those options in there earlier, doesnt mater if it wipes everything I have a back up of my storage and I have factory reset it 2-3 times in the last 12 hrs I will have to charge it a bit now as it went flat about half an hr ago I will let u know how it goes :victory:
No you lock it via fastboot commands, all commands starting with fastboot are done with the phone in the bootloader !
So the steps are :
1: run the ruu like described
2: after all updates via phone menu you should get to jellybean android 4.1.....check your bootloader and make sure the hboot number is above 1.31 !
3: unlock the bootloader again with the unlock code
Fastboot flash unlocktoken unlock_code.bin
4: flash the custom recovery
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Fastboot erase cache
and make a NANDROID BACKUP RIGHT AWAY ! Very important !!!
5: flash the boot.img from the new desired rom
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Fastboot erase cache
6: make a full wipe in the recovery (wipe all except the sdcard !)
7: install the new rom.zip in the recovery
8: reboot and enjoy JB !
