If you have installed Link2SD, the 2nd partition will be mounted as /data/sdext2 (the "ext2" here means "2nd partition on external", no relation to the actual filesystem)
Use a root-friendly explorer like ES Explorer or SolidExplorer (my favorite, currently), and it's wide open
Create a folder there, maybe call it "toolchain" or "sysfiles" or something that discourage people from mucking around.
Then, create a file in that folder called ".nomedia" (dot-nomedia).
Afterwards, *anything* you put in that folder (using your root-friendly explorer) will never ever show up in any 'media library' kind of app (e.g., Galler, QuickPic, MX Player, or whathaveyou)
(But... if you're using ES Explorer, it has its own internal 'gallery-izer' that enables you to view *any* folder as if it's a multimedia album)

hmm my method, in step by step
1. make folder in sdcard or external_SD.
2. give a tricky name like "system" , "driver", or whatever you like. but there are some term it have to be sure a) don't give a name that is attractive such as "my hidden files", "don't touch" in my experience those kind of name attracts more
3. make another folder with another tricky name just like in step #2
4. copy your files to folder you created in step 3
5. give .nomedia file so it can be scanned
6. copy some camuflage stuffs. in my case it can be somekind of thing from your system like files in xbin or sbin. or from what i said is like toolchain for kernel building
7. voila your friend won't be attracted to open files they are unsure. considering they are not an advance who knows everything about android they won't take a risk of bricking other's devices just to fulfill their curiousness

The problem with your strategy is that some apps ignore ".nomedia" and scans both Internal and External SD Cards willy-nilly...
Within minutes, all your carefully hidden ... cute puppies pictures will be visible and sundry
If you have a 2nd partition + automounting by Link2SD, the 2nd partition can be found in /data/sdext2. Nearly all apps I know stay away from /data because there are a *huge* amount of unimportant pictures (e.g., app assets like icons and stuff) inside /data
Add ".nomedia" to be certain.

Well i guess on system/ there aren't big capacity memories in there, so if you have a big collection of that *puppies* what peps called , it won't be enough.
Unless you have some internal like the nexus that would be enough for now

The reason they put .nomedia file is so that the media scanner will not scan any media (image, video, audio) in those folder.
Why dont just install file locker and lock them...so that they may never get scanned....its so lengthy moving the things again and again to folders.... :/

Hide It Pro makes a labyrinthine structure of dirs, including dot-directories, and finally resort to extension-changing. The files hidden are not visible to any media scanners, and if you need to restore them, you can gather them and rename based on their contents.

This is a CWM package that contains 20 ringtones made using theme songs from classic cartoons, TV shows, movies, video games and the ringtones from the Classic Mobile Phone, the Nokia 3310,converted into .ogg format. Some files have been obtained through the internet as mp3 files others have been recorded by me from the source (example video game themes).
You may open the package to listen to the music files ( .ogg Opens in VLC Player )
You may also delete the music files that you don't want, before installing the package.
All the 20 files start with the letters 'aa' to keep the ringtones in a group.
It is the first time I am doing this.
So only for those who want to take risks.
Make a back-up.
If you have any problem after the first boot try rebooting.
If you want to delete the files from the phone, the system should be write-enabled. For this you may use an app like Damian Tweak from the market.
You would also need a system file explorer like Yaffs Explorer. If you are using Yaffs Explorer, go to its settings and enable root. The ringtones would be located in the folder /system/media/audio/ringtones/
Enjoy the ringtones .
NOTE: Make sure that you have enough space in the system before you install this.

Is this only applicable for SGS i9000 or other phones as well ?
Edit--
Can confirm this as working on Galaxy S II I9100 as well and yes, the ringtones are awesome!

I have not tried on any other phone.
You may try it if you want to .
Please reply if it works .
Make sure that your other ringtones are in the folder /system/media/audio/ringtones/ using a system file explorer.
Alternative method
- Find out where your ringtones are located.
- Download the zip package.
- extract the .ogg files
- copy the files to your sd card
- make sure that the system is write enabled
- copy the files from the sd card to the right folder
it works great on my SGS II. just flashed the file through CWM and voilà
Thanks for replying

Open it with text editor and add the following line :
For phone :-
Code:
sys.keep_app_1=com.android.contacts
for any other app

actually i did'nt even have any delay opening the dialer earlier.
maybe someone who had this problem can try and report.
at least there is no boot loop or 'stuck at m logo' problem ,so no harm in trying.

if you already have contacts in memory then ,

also you can check app name from package browser located in setting>developer option>launch tools
This works great. Tried it.. all the apps added to local prop take no time to open... thanx a lot... :good::good::highfive:
Do i have to set specific permissions to the file?
Found one thing about editing local.prop
Found one thing:
After entering the app name in local.prop file leave one line blank at the bottom otherwise even if u save it, phone says no changes made... and apps u added in local.prop file won't be locked in memory.. Hope i helped.. :good:
Great tip, thanks . Locked phone in memory, no more delays now.

What about this kanpurite? If we need to set specific permissions which i haven't done, i am living with a placebo effect here. :silly: But seriously now i kept my cell on standby for about an hour, and then tried opening phone, contacts and messaging apps.. BAM.... They open within a split second..

when you create local.prop it already has the minimum permissions set (666).
so i don't think there is need to set any permissions.

It keeps your app's in memory all the time.
you can try it if your app's load slowly.
go to /data folder using any file explorer.
create a new file named 'local.prop'.
open it with text editor and add these lines :
sys.keep_app_1=com.android.contacts
sys.keep_app_2=com.android.mms
now save and reboot.
Thanks a lot!
Hope discussion in the main thread wil be over now.
I was in the ' camp' a phone is (still) a phone primarily (for me at least)....
Sd card?
May local.prop be on the sd card in the folder /mnt/sdcard/data ?
how do i create local.prop file.....can u tell me full steps and is data folder is on sdcard
Guys, the path is in the phone's memory. The / sign means the root of that file system.
To make it clear: if you put that file on the SD card the phone will EXPLODE .

Guys I have put together some script that will help you slim down your CM10/AOKP rom and since I was getting a lot of PM's for it I just decided to post it. Please note that this is what I personally remove and you may not want it removed. Feel free to download it and manipulate it using notepad ++. For those of you not to sure what to do post your questions and I will try and help you. For those of you who know how to manipulate updater-script Enjoy.....
Just wanna say thanks to whomever it was the originally started the script. I am not sure where I got it from but I thank you anyways...
Edit: added an English Only LatinIME apk file which cuts out a lot of bloat as well. 24megs to 5megs. Please use adb or root explorer to place in system/app. I will try and create a zip file later.
10/30 - Just added a Apps_Delete zip file that will remove Bloat and add your data/app or system/ files all at the same time. This is great if you want to restore everything in one shot like inverted gapps and your downloaded apk's.

Flash via recovery... tested with TWRP
Notepad ++ - http://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v6.2.html
I assume we install this in recovery?
Also is there a way to script all the changes you make to rom settings from defaults?

All the changes made are listed above and yes you flash via recovery I have only flashed via TWRP but it should work with both. Sorry for any delay in responding guys I am on vacation

Honestly this should work with stock or any Hercules based rom. Just set it up with what you want removed and go at it. I do not know exactly what is loaded up with PA so I do not know what to exactly remove. The names of certain files may differ. I would compare and make changes then go for it

More space for your apps to run which also allows your system to run smoother. I can probably chop another 15 megs just with fonts. So to answer your question it does some of both.
Hi nice program, I'm on CM10. I did the following.
Flashed M10 and gapps and rebooted to recovery
Flashed the CM10 script and rebooted phone.
I still have these wallpapers on the phone
Black Hole
Bubbles
Microbes
Phase Beam
Also I would like to remove
Messaging and Face unlock.
I downloaded an installed notepad ++ but got nowhere when I tried to edit the zip file.
I'm not a total noob but failed miserably here.
OK, I figured out how to add apps to be removed, but still have the above wallpapers on the phone.(deleting manually with RootBox)
I can't find the above wallpapers in system/app using root browser so I don't know how to get rid of them.
Also I have one app on the SD card that I want to install(appwidget picker) Is it possible to add to the script?
And I want to add a notification sound(from SD card)if possible.
I'm doing the above manually now but it would be really neat if I could include them in the script.
Can you give me some hints please

Yes it can all be added, first off setup a folder on the zip file for system/media/notification and add the file there. Secondly add a folder for system/app/ and then add app widget picker. Which by the way is not needed with Apex or Nova. PM me when you do that part I am away from PC and will finish off the rest when I get home

I added a Apps_Delete zip in the OP for those who want to have all there eggs in one basket. You can now deBloat and add your inverted apps or data apps at the same time. As always fully customizable to your needs. Just add folders as needed and flash. I have tested numerous times on TWRP without error..
If I want to make some changes to the script (remove some additional programs that I don't use and not delete some items that I want to keep) - how do I do that? Can I just edit the script in the zip file?
Thanks,

Apps run in /data this cleans up /system which is only used for the ROM, this does not create any more space for the regular user unless they start installing apps as system apps and remembering to move them to the system every time they are updated. Also, removing fonts and ringtones will not make a system run any smoother. While I am at it, I'd like to point out that there is 0 evidence that more free space = faster running phone. I'm not saying there is no point to this, as I like to remove things I won't use (though with freeze/disable, these days it is less important to actually uninstall them) and keep a tighter organization going on... just that the point is not those you are making. This will not make your phone fly, fart bacon, or magically delicious. But, it can remove clutter, provide comfort to obsessive compulsive people, and therefore has its place.
PS - don't start the argument that less apps = less running processes = more faster.... Android's memory management is pretty stellar, and it has been proven that free memory is just wasted memory, and cached background processes do not interfere with an applications ability to get as much of the memory as it demands for its tasks.

hi all mates. i tried port galaxy s4 optical reader app for our Galaxy SIII. it's working but with a little bug. if you want it download files and copy your phone.
Instructions;
1. download file in mediafire
2. unzip with winrar or winzip
3. copy 'photoreader' folder to root of your phone.
4. copy 'system' folder to root
after copied all files set permissions;
for all folders; rwx rx rx
for all files; rw r r
Now reboot your phone and enjoy.
Note: some files from henrylife's rom and some files from my friend's S4. thanks to them.
Known bug: force closing in image load from gallery (maybe some developer can help us).
best regards.
sorry my english.

am running 4.2.2 xxufme3 firmware

No optical reader
I have given permission to all folders and all the files inside the folders and still i dont get the optical reader when i reboot
hey
what do you mean? "root of your phone'? do you mean the 'root' folder? or what?
Do any of you would be so kind as to prepare a zip file to flash via recovery? Granting single files is much pain.
Thanks in advance tremendously.
When you say put it on the "root of you phone" are you saying put it in "/" or do you put on the root of the internal sdcard?
Thanks
I need single recovery file too.
Is it working on 4.3 xxemg4?
Hellooo?!
No one interested in this funtastic feature?
Me too strucked on "not recognized" - but QR Code si working, I think ther's some dictionary lacks...

So no possibility of an add-on module like Xposed ?!
...however I'll be in waiting for your new ROM guy, maybe before I get a new Note 3!
Master fixer...here i am!
Yes I Do It, fully working!
First step, download this complete package from another thread on xda:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2352726
Unzip it, and simply copy/paste the folders on /system...
I mean the internal memory of the phone, nor the sdCard, neither the extSdCard - how to say...
in italian /dispositivo if you use esExplorer, or home if you use Root Browser
So, open Optical Reader folder, and copy/paste photoreader folder in /system - again open Optical Reader folder/lib select all copy/paste to /system/lib (must be 11 files) - last step open Optical Reader folder/app select all copy/paste to /system/app
Almost done, now reboot to recovery and wipe cache and then Dalvik - reboot and enjoy!
NO NEED TO SET PERMISSION OF NONE, the app didn't work previosly, for lacking some library, and the diction.apk
You probably need the Samsung store installed to get new library for the translation.
I get the app working on Imperium 24.0 Rom...
Funny tricks...SEE YOU! - if you liked my post clap your hands...
I am using android revolution hd 29.I am using this list to free more ram and make the rom more stable and run more smoothly and faster.
So here is my list from pictures taken from mobile go....Say thanks if you like.....
P.s My phones setup is very comfortable for me and its settings...It has not given me any fcs because i dont delete any .apk but i only add a dot in any app i dont want to use.
Question how does a list free more ram >>> Is something missing from the OP .
By adding a dot ??? it reads as you are adding a dot in front of each apk .
Confused .

Surely Titanium Backup Pro and freeze is an easier way .
Its far far cheaper than the Wondershare Mobile Go .
Same dot or even delete can be used by any root file manager .
Even the free Android Commander can be used .
List is useful anyway thank you for that .

Most of your apps listed here I've already deleted them and now my system rom is only 1.58 gb (was around 1.70 gb before) and around 738 mb free (was around 800+ mb before).
And as far as I can see you only rendered the files unreadable. If you really want to get rid of those bloatware (and free system resources) then just delete them permanently that way you'll be able to use the space those apk's have occupied.
And I think you're using a deodexed rom? I don't see any .odex files in there cause if you do you need to disable those too. So edit your first post and advice that it should only be used by deodexed rom users.

no i really dont want to do that because with some apk you can remove them easily with no fcs at all, but some others like logsprovider.apk (example), you will get fcs....its really better to just rename it.....the space you will accumulate from that is very small compared to what we are trying to acomplish (ram).

Well I deleted them all and I don't experience any fc's at all. Of course I just used rom cleaner to delete them all (and a bloatware remover script by AndiP) so it avoided those important apk's including that logsprovider apk.

But read the thread.if you are a newbie, then just flash the script and then push the apk's you need back into your system/app folder with a root explorer, set permissions and reboot..
Does this really work ? Will it cause me any trouble ? Is there an easy / safe way of doing this…
