[Q] Help! Totally bricked my SG3 SGH-T999 using Mobile ODIN - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I was trying to unroot my TMO SG3 SGH-T999 so I can exchange it under warranty. I was following the instructions here, but using mobile ODIN instead of the Windows version, as I am on a Mac (OS X 10.7.5). I found two ROMs on my external SD - Liquid Smooth JB and the Stock ROM - so I thought, let's try to flash the Liquid Smooth JB just for fun, while I'm at it. When I tried to do this before using CWM Recovery, it would load to the Liquid Smooth JB logo screen then freeze, but I could always restart it and go back to the regular ROM - so I was hoping maybe using Mobile ODIN it would work - this was clearly a bad idea.
It's totally bricked now
I can boot it into Download mode, which looks like

but that's it.
I installed Heimdall after reading some people post in various forums that they were able to recover from similar situations using it, but I can't find a Heimdall firmware package for the SGH-T999.
And ideas? This is really bad ...
Thanks!

You will have to send it in to be repaired.

If you can get into download mode it's not really bricked
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium

Bricked generally means black screen no response when plugged in or Power cycled or anything.
As people have already pointed out get a Windows machine or boot camp a Windows partition and flash an image with Odin. There is a bunch in the thread in android development.
Best of luck flashing let us know how you get on.

I laughed hard @ LET ME FLASH THE LIQUID SMOOTH WHILE AT IT
, if your route and goal is to revert back to stock rom then how can u flash liquid smooth while AT IT? makes zero sense since odin is just for stock and i never heard of odin flashing custom roms. And guess what? The warranty people got flash counters so figure out a way to reset your download flash counter or they will find its been tampered with.

Get to a Pc! If you can get to download mode you are definitely not hard bricked. Flash a stock firmware and ur good to go!

This thread is hilarious. Flashing a ROM that you know doesn't work. Good job!

Thanks everyone for the Windows Odin suggestion. Will try it and let you know how it goes.

I was able to restore the stock ROM using CWM, which I had forgotten was on the phone (I had been using Volume Down-Home-Power so much I forgot about Volume Up). All in all not one of my prouder moments, but all's well that ends well.
That said, I would like to know why the Liquid Smooth ROM didn't work, and how I could tell a working ROM from a non-working one before flashing it. I did an md5 and it matched.
Yes @psykhotic, I had trouble with this ROM when using CWM, but when I asked Max Lee of http://galaxys3root.com/ - whose instructions I had followed for rooting my phone and installing the Liquid Smooth ROM - his response made it sound like it could have just been a fluke:
Did you do factory reset when I installing liquid? If u end up in a bootloop u have to do a fresh reinstall then wipe cache simple doing wipe after installing will not solve problems. That is a funky thing that happens but you should make a backup rom so u can easily restore if something goes wrong.

There was also reason to believe it could have been related to CWM, such that a different software for flashing the ROM might have worked (when I say reason to believe, I mean to someone who isn't an expert in flashing ROMs).

Just a little FYI that I have learned when flashing anything that can cause you to brick. Make sure that you rad all the comments and see if others are having issues with flashing. Make sure you download the flash file for your area. Can't flash a us phone with a Chinese phone. You got very lucky from the sounds of it and am glad to hear that you could still boot it.

I ran across this problem with one of my tabs, but not both.
If I accessed CWM using the power and Vol+ key CWM would boot, but fail at flashing.
Go to advanced, reboot recovery
Then try to flash the kernal, then rom.
Im about to post the link to the "package" that has the zimage so people can flash the kernal via heimdall.

So I applied the .so file from the voodoo kernal thread, and rotation works on this ROM. It's also pairing with my bluetooth keyboard folio, so that's win. I pink puffy heart the browser, too. It's fun.

OK, first off.....NOT MY PORT.
But I did stay at a holiday in last night.
This is a cdma cm7 gingerbread port, in a way its kinda a hybrid build. I myself am working on stripping out all the cm7 stuff, fixing camera, apps, weird touchscreen bugs, etc.
I'm kinda shooting for an aosp-ish build, however, I am waiting on permission from original developer to publish any changes I make.
3g and wifi do work.

[Feedback] Any interest in Automated root of stock ROM (w/o ODIN or ROM Flash)?

I have some scripts that I wrote for LG Optimus S to do a fully automated root/unroot of the stock ROM.
I adapted them to work with the Samsung Epic 4G Touch.
This would root the phone using your EXISTING stock ROM. No need to use ODIN or mess with custom recoveries, kernels, or ROMs.
Everything would be your existing stock (ROM, zImage-kernel+initramfs, etc), except you'd have ROOT, so it shouldn't suffer from LOS (unless you had LOS with stock to start with)
Looking for feedback. If there is any interest I can clean it up and post the package.
EDIT:
Here you go:

I could see interest in something like this.
I recall multiple threads asking "will the epic touch ever get a more conventional root?" so if you can pull it off I could definitely see the demand.
I remember reading about this root method on the AC forums. I wouldn't be interested myself, as I want more from a rooted device, but I'd imagine there would be a reasonable number of people who only want root for wifi tethering and certain apps that require it and don't care about custom recovery and kernels/ROMs.
Ill be the first to test it.

I don't think it's too confusing, I just don't want to have to flash ANYTHING to get root. I have had ZERO problems with my phone. Not a single LOS, no random game closes, nothing. I don't want to risk flashing a kernel, even the stock pulled, and potentially stirring something up and having to deal with LOS and whatever else. Not worth it to me.

Assuming you install "adb" on Mac, you can use the (included) manual rooting instructions (see Reference Section B)
It should be much simpler than other manual instructions as you still are getting 95% of the automation through scripts. Just a little typing to kick things off.
I would test it.

Probably not a big deal for many folks on XDA, but this method will NOT trigger the Yellow Triangle nor will it increase your ODIN flash count.
There are, of course, ways to address those annoyances when using other methods.
There is a software fix for yellow triangle which should account for most sprint stores but I always welcome more solutions

I found a conventional root. Google "doomlord root" or http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...-anything-try-doomlords-easy-rooting-toolkit/
It works perfectly for the epic touch. No flashing required. I used it because i wanted full control but loved stock.

Try using Odin to go back to full stock if you can get into download mode. I think that's your only hope
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
I think only mobile odin might be able to help you as you cannot see the device n your computer. If you can get the APK for mobile odin which can be found on XDA, put it on you sd card an install, then get an stock odin Rom and run it from your phone.
Can you also edit your title of this thread, it is pretty deceiving...
Hopefully this method works for you.
Yes I agree quite a few people have done this and lets not have anyone else get themselves caught up like you did. Please change the title and edit out your first post stating what happened to you... Good Luck
You're lucky it even booted and that it is not completely FUBARed. Since you can't connect to odin, as stated, try mobile ODIN.

i hear that the bluetooth is the only radio that works. so. get the mobile odin apk, bluetooth transfer that over and hopefully you have a ODIN rom on there already cuz, frankly, it will be an insane pain in the ass to transfer one over bluetooth.
I guess a kernel/recovery would be easier and get your usb connected...
good luck.

Just to add more salt to the OP's wound: lulz.
Listen to the guys who are telling you to flash back through mobile ODIN, that's probably the only way you're going to get back to a normal working state on your phone.
IMO there are two hurdles with Mobile ODIN:
1) I believe it requires root, which you wouldn't have after flashing the stock Intl software
2) If this phone isn't being recognized even when it can be booted to ODIN D/L mode, then the USB support in the bootloader is already messed up. I don't believe Mobile ODIN can flash the bootloader
Hopefully I'm wrong and you can get it working.
Flash a kernel with clockwork on mobile odin... And then flash everything u need

Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium

Sorry to be the person with the worst news that you really dont want to hear but
the phone is toast......there is only one option that can help you .....JTAG this is a service that fixes this for 50 bucks they will reflash the system back to it and get it working again mobile odin wont work because when you flashed the rom it took out the root so mobile wont work only way is 1 jtag service or if your lucky like i was send it back(within warranty period) and say it was a bad flash of an ota update that came through .......hope this helps but i have did this and everything you could think is not gonna work only what i just told you trust me it pissed me off so bad that i didn't read the post before i flashed it
Really sorry to hear.
This could be why manufacturers want to lock the bootloader so this doesn't happen.
You wouldn't think someone who would attempt this would be this foolish...

Do a battery pull. What were you flashing on top of what, from which recovery? Try wiping cache/format.
It might help people to know what you were doing just before this happened.
Were you flashing something (what?) via Odin, recovery, cwm touch recovery?
If you were in the middle of flashing a modem I don't believe you should try a battery pull but if you were flashing a ROM and got stuck on reboot then I think it's safe (I did it earlier today but wait for more informed responses from people who know more).
I was flashing CM9 over an older version. Is there a way to go back to stock and then go from the start? Using Odin?
Pull battery and try again...or 3 button recovery and factory reset...

If you can go into Odin mode then flash one of sfhub's one click packages.

Before you resort to a battery pull, especially if Odin never recognized your phone (no COMxx showed up in the Odin screen) you can hold down the power button on your phone and reboot.
I don't know that one (battery pull) or the other (power cycle) is better but I always try to power cycle my phone before I resort to pulling the battery, if for no other reason than preserving the life of my battery cover (those little clips wouldn't be hard to break).

[Q] Galaxy s3 international rom on sprint

Hey guys this is my first post but I have a galaxy s3 on sprint model l710 that I successfully rooted and flashed a custom ROM to, the phone worked fine and I decided to flash a new rom so I made a backup of the current rom I had (synergyROM) and proceeded to download a new rom that I must of overlooked it to be intended for the international quad core version.
It goes without saying that I messed up and there might not be a fix to my problem but worth a shot!
After I loaded the zip from my CWM menu I selected reboot and now the phone will not turn on at all, not even to downloaded mode!
If anyone has any idea on how to get it to downloaded mode I can take it from there.
If you flashed an international rom on the phone, the phone is hard bricked and there will be no way for you to fix it personally. You can turn it in to Sprint and play dumb saying you downloaded the recent OTA or whatever and that it wouldn't turn back on.
Does anybody read english words anymore?!?!?!

You're right, I don't think people should do that but people will end up doing it either way. The fact that you've already made this mistake once though... how about you stick to looking in the Sprint section for roms? That way you don't end up downloading this random stuff... OR how about you stop flashing roms entirely?
Read the first post of rom threads in it's entirety. I have yet to see a rom that does not explicitly say which GS3 it is for in the first page.

Hurts me to say this but its game over dude. The international version's misc partition is located in the same place as the boot partition for the Sprint variant, so theres no way that that phone is booting up again
Best bet is to take it into Sprint and play it dumb. Good luck :good:
EDIT: Really dude, twice? I think it goes without saying that once you try something and it doesnt work the first time, that doesnt make it more likely to work the second time.

This is why you always stay in the sprint section when you are looking for new roms to flash. They have all the gs3 forums separated for a reason.....

For the hell of it you could try this.. Put it in download mode, even if it doesn't show on the screen and try flashing stock with odin.. You have noting to loose..
