Full factory restore for emergencies? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

When I had my S3, this was something super convenient to have in case you have an issue and have to take your phone into Sprint for service. Basically posting this to see if any devs would be interested in setting something like this up.

Yes, I agree we need this for our Note-2.

You should ask mrRobinson about this. Would be easy for him, it's basically the same as his stock rooted tools. (i think my sig links to it...)
And I agree, this would be an invaluable thread to be able to point people to.

Odin mobile from chainfire does just this. I posted about in the apps and scene section it is 1 or more pages back. Alternatively you can just do a search for it.

Good option as well, but you have to buy an app to do this. This is just a quick rom flash.

I linked you to Chainfire's thread with a Lite version available but wouldn't you still be rooted hence may still run the risk of Sprint's rooted wrath if you brought your phone in?

I'm sure there plenty of ways to go about it fellas. I'd just like it to be as simple as possible. Boot into recovery, flash zip and done without a trace.
Sent from my J-BoMbEd GN-2 using XDA Premium App

Yep, I'll be checking this thread to see if something comes up too.

Get a kernel base twrp and tar, flash non rooted tar with mobile odin lite, than flash non rooted kernel

I just did this last weekend because I had to return mine to sprint due to a random rebooting problem. Here were the steps I took:
1. Made a Nandroid backup
2. Went back to stock LJC rom using odin
3. Flashed the CF's auto-root file using odin
4. Booted phone and installed triangle away
5. Ran TA and reset the counter
6. Opened Supersu to unroot
7. Then take back to sprint
I also made a backup of all the logs (call logs, sms, and mms) and my home screen settings (wallpaper, etc) and restored them to make it look more legit. Sprint didn't really mind but I'm paranoid that way. Sorry I couldn't post links as I am doing all this from work.

Stock restore is a full factory restore. Only thing it doesn't do is wipe your external SD card.

Cwm and not rooting question

so im not really from around these parts but my girlfriend has this phone, and doesn't want root but would like to have a nandroid backup, is there any problems with odin'ing cwm and not flashing su, and just leaving the phone unrooted? or is that a horrible idea?
the phone is tmobile stock w/ the most recent ics update btw
also, sorry if this has been asked, i'm sorry.. but I looked around and didn't see this question posted anywhere, but
thanks for any advice anyone can offer.

Edit: if it's for back up reasons, just backup to Google and she's all good.

Mostly for experimental purposes.. I've never had a phone that is so easy to flash a custom recovery without rooting.. but also because we want to backup more than just contacts and calendars..
I was just wondering if it's a bad idea to flash the recovery and not root the device

Basically was doing a restore after a full wipe. I noticed the restore went allot faster then normal. I figured it was because the new twrp update speeded it up some how. I didn't get a failed message. Umm, no. It was a bad backup. I went to hit restore again and instead did a reboot. The phone was stuck on the Samsung white screen. With wish and truth helping, we got the phone into download mode and using Odin flashed the cwm recovery tar file. Then got the the phone into recovery and flashed a ROM I had on my card.
Moral of the story. If it doesn't seem right dont follow through with it and always keep a working ROM zip on your card. It was totally my fault.
Just noticed, that restore was only 506mb. I ran out of space.

Clockwork vs twrp

Hey so tell us what recovery you like and don't like and why?
I was using twrp but stopped because it screwed up my phone and was having problems flashing some Roms. I just don't think it does a clean wipe just works to fast..... So far clockwork cleans ,wipes more securely and have no problems flashing Roms...
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
I see this thread getting out of hand and going south quickly. I'm gonna request a mod step in and make a bold suggestion to people on how to keep it clean and not go south. Also make a poll for the thread, makes it look better and more official..
I prefer TWRP, I've been on it since I got the S III (May of '12). I test roms for 3 devs on this phone, and never had an issue. I used to use CWM on previous phones and never had issues there either. I just prefer TWRPs UI.

I've used both and like both, settled on twrp mainly because I find it a little easier to use. CWM looks nicer IMO. I dont' think you can go wrong with either.
I prefer TWRP but with the 4.2+ ROMs I flashed that have the 0 file I have to use CWM.
I'm sure there's something I can do to fix this but I've tried via Google search and have only has luck with CWM. So here I am.

Interesting. It's worth a shot OP. Worst case, it fails and you uninstall. If it is successful, you can install mobile odin, then get the latest gb27 tar, and money. While you're at it, you will have to flash a cwm custom jb kernel, since you're on ics, and, MO won't flash modems, you'll need a jb modem to use data on gb27. Download the zip though of the modem . Good luck, let us know how it goes.

LGNPST is the only other way.
FreeGee's files should be in root of your SD under freegee. If you backed them up to your computer or cloud, just copy it back to root.
The problem was that stupid 0 folder. I moved the files from the 0 folder to the other freegee folder at the root of my storage and voila..."your efs has been restored up"
