Hey guys,
Im a long time WINMO user jumping off the sinking ship to Android. Picked up a HTC Desire the other day, and am just in the process of figuring out the best way to get my personal data from my HD2 to my Desire.
When i say "personal data"... i mainly mean contacts, calendar appointments and tasks. Emails and SMS is not too important.
Ive done a little research and found that there are a few different methods, but the most popular two seem to be either to use Sprite Migrate or Google Sync.
I had read a few posts noting that by using Google Sync, it will compress/re-size any contact pictures i have assigned... and if i wish to have hi-res contact pictures... i will have to re-assign them. I have also read that there is no calendar 'tasks' app built in... so im hoping there are a few available.
So... if you are a user who has successfully (and reasonably easily) transferred from WINMO to Android... i would welcome any advice you have.
Ps: i realise there are a few threads on this topic, but i couldnt find anything on how well Sprite Migrate actually worked (stable backups/restores, contact picture issues, etc).
Thanks for your help guys.
Hey! well I have a rooted X10 and a Nexus one and will be getting my Xperia Arc later!
I want to transfer all my locally stored contacts and sms from my nexus one to my new arc, I want to keep both phones as stock as possible, and hoping their are free solutions.
thank you in advance for the help!
Contacts should be pretty simple, make all contacts google contacts, then sync on the old phone, sync on the new phone, and you should have all your contacts.
Or: the arc has options to backup/restore contacts to SD card. Dunno if the nexus one has this option or not, but if it does then that seems like a simple way to do.
For SMSs i've been using MyBackup Pro for ages now, it does contacts, SMSs, bookmarks, calendar and loads more. It costs a few quid, (it's worth it IMO) but there's also a time limited (30 days) free version which is good enough if you only want to transfer over this once.
Alternatively there's loads of free apps out there that do SMS backup/restore (just search the market). Havent used any but this one gets good reviews.
So I have had a HTC Desire for two years, and have just ordered a new HTC One X
How do I easily move all my data over? I'm worried about contacts, photos or videos. What I am worried about is the application data. For example, I have all three stars in every level of angry birds, and don't want to lose that
Try titanium backup and contacts backup
Sent from my HTC Desire Z using XDA
The one has an app.to help you move data from.your old phone via bluetooth I haven't tried it though.

I did, and it doesn't backup app data.
Only thing that I got were contacts, not even my old messages or call logs.
If you want to keep your progress with Angry Birds, I recommend a Titanium backup or so.

I used the built-in app too and with the same result. Contacts only. They weren't brought across cleanly either with a fair few duplicated.
Titanium is about your only reliable option for bringing over your data from the Desire and you need root to use it.
Doesn't Titanium require root?

I am afraid that backing up your angry birds requires root permission (titanium backup)
Photos and videos might be quite abit easier. You could already make a dropbox account and put all files there.
For calls and sms I use Sms backup + which backs up calls and sms to a label in your gmail account. which i find very useful (it can also restore them)
As far as contacts go, i assume they are integrated in your gmail account or exchange server?
If not you can import them to your gmail contacts. I did this when i first got my desire and now i keep all my contacts on there. It is probably the moest useful phone related thing i have ever done.

Suprised by some of the responses. Don't you people have your contacts backed up to your Google account automatically?
Contacts - Google account so no need to do anything.
Photos/videos - Just copy them over via PC
Game data - Titanium backup
PS. I upgraded from a Desire and believe me you will not regret the decision to get a One X. It's hard to believe these two phones are only 2 years apart in terms of release date. The One X design is so sexy in comparison, it's also lighter, slimmer and the screen is unbelievably better.
As has been said
Contacts - Done via Google
Email - Done via Google
Photos/Music - SD Card backups
App Date - Rooting + Titanium
SMS - SMS Backup & Restore
I have just rooted my OneX fairly easily and everything has moved over apart from Temple Run
There is an app in the store which will be able to backup your angry birds saves without root. Just search for angry birds backup in the store

I tried "Backup Everything" which is pre-installed on the Runnymede Desire ROM. Seemed to work from user customised standard to new ROM fairly well.
Thanks guys. This phone is awesome.
Here's what I did (as per the replies above):
- Contacts via Google
- Email via Goolge
- SMS using SMS Backup and Restore from Google Play
- Angry birds using Angry Birds Backup from Google Play
I didnt want to root my new HTC One X and invalidate the warranty, hence not using Titanium.
I am actually disappointed with Google for not making something that can easily do this. I mean, its just a case of installing the .apk files and then transferring the data.
Hello everyone.
i just wanna know the best way to backup my s3 like blackberry. is there a software to do that? i wanna back up not only the contacts but my messages, notepad etc too
To backup messages and contacts and even call logs you can use "SmsBackup and restore" which can be found on Google play. If you're rooted you can use Titanium Backup to backup all of your apps.
About your notes...maybe you can check within the app if there is a way to backup your notes to your SD card.

Hi Guys,
I have been a big fan of hTC while all of my colleagues and friends are Samsung and iPhone. I was using htc one x before having this htc one m8. I thought this flagship would be great phone..but I have discovered that they have gotten rid off some of the coolest features. Galley feature from "People" (where you could see all the pictures of your fb friend without going to fb), Notes, Soundhound...I don't know what else as I have been using this phone only for couple of weeks now. Does anyone realise it? is there any way we can have them back..especially Gallery option?

You've already been told about a couple of these from @Sneakyghost on the VenomROM tickets.
Notes isn't there because HTC didn't renew the contract with Evernote. You can install the Evernote app from the playstore, or install Google Keep or Scribble. They are both similar to the Notes app.
Soundhound is also available on the Play Store..
HTC got rid of the Gallery option for a reason I don't know, but probably because they didn't renew the contract with Facebook as well. You aren't going to get that with the M8.
I was going to close your ticket at VenomROMs after answering this post, but I'll leave it up so the devs can see it. Maybe they will try to implement it, but I really doubt it. This is the first request I know of for Venom to get facebook back into the gallery.
Low demand=lots of work for a select few.
