I have TELUS HTC desire 2.1 no root or mods when I go to text everything i type is delayed and then will just pop up all at once and then when I go to actually send my text it takes up to two minutes sometimes to appear in the messages as being sent. Quite frequently it will also force close almost daily. Anyone else having a same issue?
I have this exact same problem. My Telus Desire seems to be so sluggish. Would installing a custom ROM fix these problems?
HTC desire is one of the snappiest devices I ve ever used. but I have unlocked phone so not sure If it is carrier specific . I would suggest getting a replacements or flashing. A cUstom Rom or factory reset
And TELUS promise 2.2 mid October and still nothin idk how to fix this phone its very sluggish I have unlocked the phone and using it with Rogers
Unlocking the phone will not make it faster, your carrier has filled it with bloatware or screwed the rom.
Install one of the many great roms from here and you will see the difference.
Can u please tell me how ? And do I have to be rooted ? Is there any one click rooting . Which Rom is good that must have app2sd . Sorry I came from xperia x10 , HTC desire is totally different
I have the same phone and is unlocked to Fido.
I don't have much delays anywhere yet.
I only gripe about the battery life !

Also haptic feedback causes the keyboard to be lagggy when using it. Try turning that off.

yes you have to be rooted, use the unrevoked 3 method for mine worked piece of cake follow the tutorial on here, then install a custom rom after you do a backup, you will definetly see the difference try cynogenmod, my desire is definetly the fastest ph ive ever had and have certainly not had the problems you guys are talking about! let me me know how u go
desire with 2.1 is sluggish, 2.2 is a massive speed boost and if you unroot it add ad2sd+ and some custom kernel with CFQ scheduler the speed will amaze you

im going to assume you know basic computing, like finding device manager etc?
after youve rooted the easiest way to install roms is to download rom manager from market. MAKE SURE YOU DO A BACKUP BEFORE INSTALLING A NEW ROM
then you can download a rom straight to your ph from this website in :desire android development forum and then install it via rom manager,
happy ROOTING!!!!!
Thank you soo much bro ill try that ASAP. Does the Rom u have does that have sense UI and app2sd ?

I think u should update your phone to android 2.2 froyo.
Super fast!
Not running Froyo yet, no root, stock ROM (waiting for Telus Froyo release).
Super fast, super smooth,
I find it slows down after about 2 weeks of always on, but a re-start fix's that.
I read 'droids have slow-down because of how the OS operates, so restart your device at least once a week.
I won't even bother to flash a ROM until there is a stable Gingerbread ROM available........maybe Root after 2.2 update.
Still very impressed with the device + GPS connects in 3 secs ( much to dismay of my samsung friends )
Hi folks,
What do you consider to be the best, fastest, most stable, battery saving, whatever Sense ROM for the Desire atm and why?
Simple question, but there are so many GB 2.1 Sense + some 3.0 Sense etc. kinda ROM's out there that it might be interesting to see which one is clearly XDA's favourite and why. What is the difference between all these ROM's and why do you use the one you flashed?
Any answers/input is highly appreciated

I will recommend AcesMod007, it's very fast, stable with good battery
i would thoroughly recommend insertcoin,
i have been running it for the last few weeks/month and so far i am very happy with it,
the only problem seems to be 720p video recording lag and also it stretches videos in portrait mode but they come out ok when played on pc,
apart from that i get no lag at all when using the phone, battery isnt as bad as people say and the sense 2.1/3.0 mix is rather sexy,
all taht said i would also recommend to try out a couple of roms, just remember to take a nandroid backup and revert back to a previous one if/when you wish,
Mine is surely not the best. But you can give a look: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1210178
I am on AcesMod007 (not 3d) and am also constantly searching for fastest sense rom (but must be very stable).
Previous rom was rcmix 2.0 - a GREAT rom, actually perfect for me, but I could always use less lag (esp. when scrolling), and that's why I am now trying AcesMod007.
I still cannot say it's much faster than rcmix, and it lags a little on the lock screen. On remix, lock screen never lagged (I use the normal - wallpaper one) Scrolling is much better, though.
To the future "Oh no, another best rom thread" remarks:
I like to read these threads and find them very informative. I am sure that many others do, too. Just don't join, read or reply if you don't like them. And roms are constantly evolving, especially for our beloved Desire! So a fresh start every now and then is really great imho.

I'm also on the .v32 of AcesMod007 (not 3d) and had the lag on the lockscreen too. Also had it in .v31
Today I tried the little update from PlayPetepp which pretty much eliminated the lag prob.

Hi,
Thanks for all the replies so far. I am currently on LeeDoird GB 3.0.8.2 and I really like it. It is fast, stable and together with SetCPU and Juice Defender i get easily 3-4 days of juice out of my desire
However, no Sense 3.0 And not sure how long this version will still get updates cause Lee starts focusing on his HD port and other devices...
So thats why i thought a best Sense-ROM thread might be useful, especially because there's lots of movement/developments recently and lots of ROMs look pretty similar but are so different when you flash em: So keep the feedback coming
I am still looking for my perfect Sense-ROM ^^
LeeDroid 3.3.3 HD. I've just come from AcesMod007 (v29) and have seen battery life almost double, fantastic stability, no FC's or anything. I'll be sticking with this for some time methinks.
I'll definitely check out the HD Lee Droid sometime soon. However, reports vary from awesome to a little buggy so i am not sure what to think of it yet...
I have two friends who too were on Aces007 move to this and they confirm my findings, it's extremely stable and battery life is massively improved.

I had 3 days and 8 hours on battery and like 20% left. During these 3 days, as i already stated, i didn't use it a lot except for some calls, sms and the active email sync (once an hour). I even listened to music for 5 minutes...so believe it or not. Why should i bull**** here
If you use it normally (including surfing, readings newssfeeds, listening to music) i still get 2 days easily.
I have tried most sense Roms including insertcoin, acemod but I have found sense 1.9 ROMs the quickest and most stable.
Teppics Rom is very good but the best is leedroid 3.0.8.2 as it does not lag at all.
I'm on AceSMod007-3D atm. Its all works surprisingly well and there is very little lag when simply moving about the homescreen. There's been lag with some widgets apparently but i only use weather and mail and they both seem fine. Also don't use the system restore in it. i did after screwing up my contacts and it screwed up all the A2SD+ stuff, had to uninstall and re-install all my apps to free up space on my internal again.
I use Insert Coin at the moment after using CM7 for a while.
I have seen a good improvement in responsiveness and battery life, I get through the day most of the time, but battery could still be better.

hi all
I finally decided to give some new life to my HTC Desire, rooted it, S-OFFed it as well and after long search for most suitable ROM for me, flashed Cool Droid v3 Bravo on it.
ROM looks great and works fine, but it has only one big issue (so far) - I cannot turn on data roaming, it is turned off by default and tweaked to stay that way. As a noob, obviously I cannot post this question in specific thread about that ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1279016 so I have to ask here:
is there any fix for it, an advice or procedure how to change the script (I figured out that it's just a line in build.prop file but it doesn't allows me to change it). I'm not scared to tinker with it as long as it's not too complicated and makes sense.
I need it because I live in Europe, travel a lot and I use national roaming very often.
Please if anyone can help me, because this issue is a dealbreaker for me with this ROM and I'd hate that.
Thanks in advance
PS: the screenshot shows how the setting stays no matter what option I choose
Install a rom that hasnt got a lot of Verizon stuff in it.
I would, if I can find fast, stable and reliable ROM, based on GB and preferably with Sense on it.
I'm not into flashing new ROM every few days and trying out every custom ROM out there, I just need my phone to work well within its capabilities as I travel a lot and use it for work.
I guess that this data roaming issue shouldn't be too complicated to solve, it's a piece of cake for every developer...

well, I flashed this rom and been testing it last few days. It has pretty much all that I need but I find it quite heavy on my device. Too many times it slows down, lags and freezes, especially when running games and apps that need syncing. Also, quite a lot FCs. Battery drain is also significant.
I'm not sure where exactly the problem is, it just gets stuck with black screen and only notification bar is visible.
Any advice where to look at? Might it be kernel, radio or CPU issue?
thanks
A tip for ya when flashing that rom. When u first install it from recovery and reboot, when it boots past bootanimation and gets to the lockring.... Leave it settle for 15-20 mins, dont unlock. Then after 15-20 mins unlock then reboot. Then no force close, sounds mad but its true. U could try a different kernal, Droidzone has a few good 1s for sense 3.5 roms and also in settings/RCMix tweaks, u can fix permissions there, try that, it sometimes fixes force close. Im using Aurora v6 special edition, its android 2.3.5 and sense 3 and not 1 problem so far, great rom infact. Saying that, Runnymede aio s.e is my personal favourite sense 3.5 and never had any problems with it, but letting it settle for 15-20 mins is a must.
About the radio.... What do u have? Lastest is recommended.

I followed that flashing procedure pretty much, I was gentle and easy going right after flashing it, not rushing anything, left it to settle (maybe not 20 mins) and rebooted it again. Actually, FCs are not such a big issue like freezing. Usually 1fc comes on 5 freezes. My radio is 5.11.05.27, I haven't touched it since rooting the phone with Revolutionary. I kinda hesitate to flash it, I don't want to brick my device because I'm not sure about the right procedure.
As my name says, I'm just an ordinary noob, not too experienced with all this.
thanks
Did u do a full wipe before flashing.

I did a full wipe, formatting and partitioning SD card from the scratch (fat32 partition included), 4ext is 1GB... I did all following developer's recommended procedure step by step. SD card is brand new SanDisk 8 GB, class 6.
It works well after reboot, but after a while, as soon as several apps are opened, it lags and hangs heavily, making the phone unusable.
I'm not sure does it matter, but I moved all movable apps to "phone storage", except those that have widgets that I use. Yet, the phone still freezes even when using non-movable apps.
I'd flash it again right now but I get messed up contacts list every time because not all my contacts are on google and I have 1000+ in total, so after every restore I get many duplicates and triplicates, so I'd really like a solution that doesn't include another flashing.
Here is a better tip. Don't use sense 3+ if you want reliability. I recommend cool bravo s, but change the kernel.

I'd like to stick with this rom.. I do have lags but not when receiving a call, that's why I suppose that I just have to do some detailed tweaking and that's where I need help as I'm not experienced with it. FCs are actually not so bad, pretty much the same as I had them on my stock froyo so I can live with that. Battery drain is there though, but I've been using the phone intensively since flashing RM AIO, trying to set it up.
Can maybe someone post here proper radio/kernel/CPU settings please?
My device is amoled version, with 5.11.05.27 radio and 2.6.35.10 [email protected] #11 kernel
CPU settings are untouched after flashing the rom, so they are "default".
thanks

Hi guys,
I have question regarding my HTC Desire Z .. Ever since I rooted the phone about 1.5 years ago, and have been trying out the newer ROMs, I've slowly realized that my phone is getting slower, slower, and slower .. I'm currently using a Jellybean ROM, and its *extremely* slow ! I mean, at times I receive a call, and the ringer rings about 5-6 times, and during all this time, the phone doesn't have the juice to switch to the phone app, so that I can 'accept' the call ! Ultimately the call disconnects itself!
A friend recently suggested to me that maybe the newer ROMs are two powerful for my phone, and that I need to move to an older Android version ROM, which my Desire Z CAN handle, without this much lag !
Also, I hardly have any apps installed on my phone at all, in an attempt to keep the load low .. I also use 'Advance Task Killer' regularly to kill background apps, but it doesn't really improve anything ..
What can I do to improve the speed of my phone !? I really pisses me off to see a 10-15 second lag when I call someone !
Get rid of the task killer first of all...

I dont think it will make any difference .. I've tried many different ROMs, and its always the same condition with all ... Sometimes my phone become *so* unresponsive that I just feel like smashing it on the ground ! (When I really get upset!)
Also, on another note, when I open Advanced Task Killer, it shows me the amount of free RAM on the top .. Most of the times this value is between 60 MB ~ 100 MB, and sometimes between 100 MB ~ 140 MB .. If never seen this value go above 135 MB or so ... And Desire Z is supposed to have 512 MB of RAM
just full wipe and reflash the rom
d_gkal said:

If I do that, it will initially be fast .. Even if I install all my apps on the first day, it will still be okay in terms of speed ... But give it a week, it eventually becomes slow .. very slow! .. And the odd thing is, during this week, I don't necessary install/uninstall anything .. the phone just ****s itself in somehow ... And then from then on, it remains slow, no matter what ...
I open Google Maps, takes like 15 seconds to open .. takes another 60 seconds to go to Google Navigation, and then further lags after that ..
Basically there's a lag in *everything* !
Is there a way I can see what is slowing down the phone ?!
Also, is it true or not whether an older phone, such as Desire Z, can or cannot handle a relatively newer Android version ROM ? Maybe this is why the latest Android versions are NOT officially available for phones many times, because the manufacturer knows the device cannot handle that newer Android version ?
If your rom supports ext partitions, make sure all of yours are formatted that way. Chances are you have sopme bad apps, a logcat may hedlp determin abused wake locks or memory leaks. Also you can try downloading battery batt stats or watchdog for more infor

i had a play with elitemod ics the other day & it was defiantly slower than the GB version... it was using more or less double the ram which i suspect is the real problem.....
Yes its true the newer versions are more hungry. We touched on it in one of the andromadus threads recently. I believe the issue to be the cpu. The nexus s has the same amount of ram as us and although its not as good on there as the gnex, its still good. Having bumped my lower cpu limit a notch, its much better. I also tried a few upper limits and found that 1200 to be best as it suffers with animation under that.
But then all dz's are different. Stay on your rom and bump up the lower limits a few clicks and let us know what you think.

I've noticed the slowdowns happening with negligible CPU load and no memory constraints. I suspect a problem with the kernel. At the times it happens, the phone seems to be just doing *nothing*.

Is there any other thing I can try apart from logcat ? I installed Watchdog a few hours ago, but so far it hasn't reported anything out of the way ..
What does have ext partitions do ? How does that speed up the OS ?
Also, I'm probably going to be re-flashing another ROM soon, so please suggest me a ROM ... I'm looking for maximum longterm stability and responsiveness here, so even if a ROM isn't the newest or the most feature-filled, I can still try it out ..
And what is Superwipe (read it in another thread) ?
Normally, when I restore stuff after installing a ROM, I download a fresh copy of the app from the Store, and only restore the app's data using titanium .. is this okay ?
For the sake of starting fresh, flash the ext 4 recovery and flash mimicry as your rom. Read all suggestions in the first few post on mimicry, to flash 4ext I made a thread, you'll find it the first page or so in the general section (dzhboot or something)
Mimicry is one of the best made best performing full featured ics roms for our phones, partitioning everything to 4ext (easily done through recovery) will make it far better. Other bonus tweaks will be added in.
There (in my opinion) are beter performing gingerbread roms, but I do sugest mimicry as it is amazing and the dev has laid out a wealth of knowledge in the first few posts

I'm assuming you're referring to this thread: http://www.forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1714187
Well this is the ROM I'm currently using, which I flashed about 2 months ago, which is giving me all these performance issues ..
I went through the first few pages, but I didn't find any instructions on 4EXT ... The only thing I found was in the OP's FAQ in the start, which said that you should apply ext by downloading 4ext from Play Store, if you get lags ..
Anywhere else I can look ?
Look in general section, somewhere in the first page I posted a thread called dzhboot on g2 or something to that extent, one of the first few posts I eplain how to flash 4ext recovery.
One of the fastest roms I have used is elitemod cm7, maybe try that

I have been wondering the same as the OP. I have been using andromadus and andromadus mimicry roms for the past few month. I tired cm9 unofficial but it was no different to mimicry in terms of lag. Currently on flinny's jb beta http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2005136. Lag is not terrible but too often I am looking at a white screen waiting for something to happen.
I often experience lags opening apps like phone and browser (any browser). Phone hanging when trying to make a call is particularly annoying because my wife asks "why is your phone so ****?"
I would love to have a really smooth experience like others report but even with a fresh wipe I seem to have trouble. When I try to reduce the process limit i still seem to have too many processes running. What should i look for in logcat in terms of tracking down the problem?
Maybe 4ext will sort it out? I am very loathe to go back to a cm7 rom.
Ext4 worked really well for me to speed up my phone.. I highly recommend it.

It's gotta be a certain app your installing thats hogging all your memory, I been running mimicry ever since blk released it n have had very few slowdowns.
Never had a problem receiving/making calls 'wiping' is not the same as 'superwiping' its different then just the name, I suggest you do some reading up before flashing any more roms.

i superwipe, and i've been flashing roms since the g1. I am not seeing any particular process hogging resources. this current jb beta is pretty good but still get some lagging at random.
if that were the case I would love to try and find out what it is.
it seems to me that a minority of users report lags in rom threads and are dismissed without ever really getting to the root of the problem.
I would really like to try and get to the bottom of it. I am going to move to ext4 but if there are other troubleshooting steps to take I am all ears.
Ext4 alone will make a huge difference, and most of the rest of the slow downs will be do to apps/running services which can be seen with a logcat what is continually trying to use cpu resources
If only a minority report slowdowns then either that minority has a different idea of how the phone should run/ they use the phone in a completley different way/ or have different settings and apps then most have.

Hello!
I have noticed a weird bug with my phone - phone will go unresponsive after day or so of work. Sometimes the screen will lit, but the phone will be VERY slow, to the state of being unusable. Sometimes the display will not even turno on when I press the power button. Anyway, I have to remove the battery to restart it.
Last time I saw such behaviour, it was my Kindle3, and it was weird power drain issue.
Has anyone had this issue before? I searched the ROM threads and nothing. The phone was bought and used in Europe (BG).This phone is more than 2 years old , hardware problem is a possibility, too
Please report if you know something. Advice me how to log these issues, too?
In general the phone becomes like that when free RAM goes below 80 MB. I've seen this on many AOSP ROMs like you said. I don't remember if it happens on Sense ROMs too, but Sense is quite slow anyway. I usually fix it by clearing out all apps in the Recent apps list.

Any automated solution to it, then?
I mean, something like close all running user apps, clear cash and RAM and so on. I know that task killers claim to do it, but they are more trouble than help!
Can anyone suggest something tired and working? I cant upgrade to 4.1 cos I need BT
Not that I know of. You can try enabling 'Don't keep activities' in Settings>Developer options. That will leave your RAM free, but it'll take longer for each app to open because it clears it from RAM each time you exit the app. So it'll affect multitasking too. Alternatively, you can try to reduce the number of background processes in the corresponding option. In my opinion none of these solutions are worth it. Just swipe away all the recent apps whenever your phone slows down.
You can use the codefireX 4.1.2 periodicals if you want a fully working 4.1 JB ROM. Development has stopped for it because the dev synergye is now developing 4.2.1, but the last SR5 version is very stable, and everything works including Bluetooth. You can even enable a 'kill all' button in the recent apps panel to clear all the apps at once.

4.1.2 has an issue with the speaker phone. I usually have to drive around the city and have to talk during that time, so I rely on BT and speakerphone. I will limit the number of processes and give it a try. If everything else fails, I can go back to CNM7(UGLY!! but STABLE!!!), and wait for BT to be fixed.
It seems that the phone will fall back to default option for number of activities kept every time I reboot it, any way to fix that?
Oh yeah it had that issue. You can also try ViperDHD ROM if you're okay with HTC Sense or go back to CM7 like you said.
Another ROM option is aospX from the HTC Inspire 4G forum. It's a great AOSP ICS ROM and BT has no issues on it as far as I know.

AOSP 4.0 is not an option, phone going on strike. I love the aospx ROM, but it is kind of annoying to have to restart when you need to call a client or something in a huury
I will try and go de-sense with Viper, probably, not many options left. I am not happy at all with Sense, dont know why I bought OneX anyway. To be honest, if I see press release about Nexus4 32GB I will sell it and keep DHD as a backup. I still have to use two phones for two months, and will sill what will happen. Till then, I will have to bit the bullet and live with either sense or CNM 7
Thank you for the support!!! Have a happy new
PS trying to limit the number of processes does not work
Happy new year to you too.
I've never used the limit number of background processes option before, so no clue about that.
I see in your signature you're waiting for official CyanogenMod (CM is the acronym ) for your One X. It's already there - http://get.cm/?device=endeavoru
Right now there are only nightlies though, but you can still use them as they're quite stable. A milestone release and a stable version should be out soon also. One X is a great phone and works brilliantly with AOSP, except the camera. The Sense camera image quality may be better (don't know till you try, I haven't experimented with it too much). Also, if you do flash CM/any AOSP ROM for your One X, use it with the NCX kernel. I've heard it gives the best battery life.

I will wait till something is marked stable at at least MR I have a phone to trouble my sleep with, and this is the DHD. I need one to be solid as rock. I already have 4.1 on One X, so everything I need to run on it runs, but I have a lot of unneeded HTC stuff under the cover running.
It's a pity that nexus is not around here, and the expected prise is going to be round 550 euro! It is not just overpriced, this is a [email protected]#ing robbery!
