Your warning indicates this is for " AT&T GS3 ONLY" but there are several references to Sprint throughout the instructions.
Thanks for the writeup though. :good:

Yes... It will work with Jellybean. This method does not install a prerooted image tar. So it will root whatever Is on your phone without any regard. It simply installs custom recovery and root.

Sorry, this is for the at&t galaxy s3. This guide was originally written for the Sprint but I replaced CWM 6.0.1.2 with 6.0.1.4 to make it compatible with the at&t. The rest is identical. I thought I had cleaned up the guide. I guess I missed a few references. I will clean it up after work tonight to get rid of any confusion. Thanks very much for the heads up...

Yes it does. But it's not an issue. Just run triangle away just before going back to stock and it will reset you back to zero.
See the instructions to unroot and return to stock.

Sorry I don't have a Mac. I only know that you need a program called hiemdall. Don't even know if you use the same files. I can't in good conscience, put out a guide completely blind.

Yes and no - you need to extract the individual files from the .tar image in order to use the image with Heimdall. Unfortunately, not having gone through the entire process myself in that fashion, I can't really comment on which files match up with which Heimdall options, though I may look more in detail into that at a later date.

No worries Skunk Ape1. I just haven't been able to find a guide for 4.1.1 on mac.
smelenchuk if you do please let me know your findings! Thanks man

RC great work here, worthy of a sticky, so Stuck and Thank you.

Okay, I've taken the time to tinker with Heimdall a bit to get the partition identifiers from my own phone (which matches up from the info from this old thread), and have put together the following, which seems to work for me. This was with Heimdall 1.4-rc1; I think earlier versions don't accept numeric identifiers.
You'd probably better have a plan on hand to get things back to normal if this doesn't work (I'm not responsible for your bricking your own device if this doesn't work).
You'll need to extract the .tar image before using this; if you're at a command line,
Code:
tar xf <image>.tar
should suffice to do that. You'll end up with the following files:
Code:
aboot.mbn
boot.img
cache.img.ext4
NON-HLOS.bin
recovery.img
rpm.mbn
sbl2.mbn
sbl3.mbn
system.img.ext4
tz.mbn
Afterwards, boot your phone into download mode (from a powered-down phone, Vol Down + Home + Power Button until you see the Samsung logo) and make sure you're completely ready and have backups and all before you run the following (I'm not going to be held responsible for you bricking your own phone and being unable to recover from it afterwards):
Code:
heimdall flash --1 NON-HLOS.bin --3 sbl2.mbn --4 sbl3.mbn --5 aboot.mbn --6 rpm.mbn --7 boot.img --8 tz.mbn --14 system.img.ext4 --17 cache.img.ext4 --18 recovery.img
You should be able to get away with flashing only some of those images instead of all of them (in particular, if you have a third party recovery from somewhere, you might want to omit the recovery image); that said, if you're only flashing some of the specified images as opposed to all of them, I'm almost certain it will trip the flash counter. (I don't know if flashing *everything* will trip the flash counter or not, though, seeing as I deliberately did not flash the recovery during my own test for ease of restoring my phone to its normal happy state.)

Already hit the thanks button once, but wanted to formally thank you for this super easy root/recovery guide! Less than 5 minutes and done! Thank you!

Unzip and put file into PDA in ODIN and flash away! If you need ODIN, it is attached below.
*WARNING* DO NOT CHECK RE-PARTITION OR ANYTHING ELSE. ONLY AUTO-REBOOT AND F. RESET TIMER SHOULD BE CHECKED.
If you need more information about this file and what it is/what to do with it, read the stickies at the top of this forum to learn more about ODIN and what it is used for. This file is provided mostly for people who like me who prefer to odin a stock rom and tweak it themselves. It will also prove INVALUABLE from here on out for when you need to unroot your phone (send into t-mobile/samsung, just want it un-rooted).
IF YOU WANT ROOT:
I also attached the latest superuser and CWM recovery for those who want to root.
Put the recovery.tar in the pda slot and flash for CWM recovery.
Then install the attached superuser inside CWM recovery to have full root!
FYI: It's a known issue that superuser usually does not "stick" on the first try. This is with ANY ROM for our phones. Just keep flashing it (usually 2 to 3 times)until it says installation complete.
THIS WILL NOT AFFECT YOUR DOWNLOAD/FLASH COUNTER (+)

Will be factory fresh. Will be like any other stock rom, not rooted. Root it via odin like we have always done for all of our roms. I think it's best to just leave completely intact so we always have an option to get our phones back to 100% factory. The CW flashable zips and rooted custom roms are on their way.

Soft bricked phone - could use some help!

Hi guys. I recently tried rooting my phone and messed it up pretty bad. I didn't realize the root method was for ICS and not the recently deployed JB update until after I did it. Here's what's going on:
- Can't boot into android. The screen just goes black after the first Samsung logo fades. I do get an AT&T sound afterwards, but it's very distorted.
- I can boot into CWM (which was included with the root?) just fine by holding vol + pwr + home.
Now I've tried a million things from googling around, but I can't seem to find any way to flash my phone (or recover it) back to stock. I know I may get some people saying "an easy google search would show you", but I'm at a complete loss at the moment. Everything seems to be for ODIN + download mode which I can't get to since CWM is installed.
Is there any way I can flash my phone back to stock? Step by step instructions would be great (and where to download firmware).
Thank you!

Download mode and recovery are different. Cwm is recovery, if you can get to recovery, use adb to push a ROM over. If you go to download mode, use Odin to load a tar few package. What phone are you using? D2att or international?
Edit: Nvm the phone type. Use vol- and home combination to get download mode. Vol+ and home for recovery. Go to the stickied thread on how to root and load ROMs. It has an index of TW and AOSP ROMs. All of them prerooted.

How would I go about using adb (I'm apparently clueless)?
I just tried download mode and it worked. How would I use Odin to flash it? I have the stock firmware image (and CM10 which is what I wanted to eventually flash) already downloaded, but I think you need Odin specific zips, right?
EDIT: I just browsed the phone's internal SD and everything is still there, is there a way to just undo what I did in the first place? Or if anything, I still need to backup my IMEI and such from what I've read... I think.

Odin uses tars. Different compression type. If you hook the USB up to the phone while in recovery, it should load adb mode drivers on the comp. Did you have a ROM already on internal? If so, just factory reset, wipe system, load ROM and gapps.

Well, I was just going to root the phone first so I could use Titanium before flashing, so I never ended up putting the ROM on the internal SD.
When I connect the phone when CWM is up, drivers attempt to install but fail.

Get a tar of the stock ICS firmware. Follow the directions while in download mode to flash. TiBU is useless to freeze anything if you're going to load a ROM anyway. Don't be lazy and just reload apps manually. You should always have a backup plan.
For sh*ts and giggles, go into cwm and just factory reset.
Since adb drivers arent loading for you, I'm not going through that process with you. For future though, you will want adb knowledge. Look it up.

I used this thread to flash back to stock AT&T ICS:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1727443
Didn't work. It still boots into a black screen with a blue LED after the Samsung logo fades. Factory reset also went through, but nothing worked. It just booted into a blank screen again, but with the AT&T sound afterwards.
Sorry for being an idiot, I'm getting kinda desperate here, and I totally realize that this was a bad call on my part without more research.

Sounds like problems Motorola gave grief with on the droids and their flashing tool. I'm looking for a jb tar file. When you used cwm and used Odin, both of them should have removed any times that would cause and issue. Especially since odin of stock fw would be like ghosting an image. Try using the toolkit to lock everything up and go back to stock completely.

Tried using the jb stock image?
http://developer.android.com/tools/help/adb.html for adb use and information. To get the drivers to work, try loading the naked drivers pack. It includes Samsung drivers. Remove all Samsung installed crap from your comp and reboot. Manually install drivers by forcing legacy devices or by telling the computer you have the disk if needed after hooking phone back up.

Does Mobile Odin flash the modem? Sorry, I'm coming from the GS2 and I know Mobile Odin has a problem flashing modems. Wondering if the same applies to the Note.
sorry for the noob question. I just got the note recently and am used to HTC phones. Anyway, will this work on a device that is not rooted? I believe my radio got messed up when I did a factory reset so I am looking for a way to fix it without rooting. I plan to use CF's autoroot later but I need this fix now. Thanks.

1 - Yes, just can't guarantee on the modem. (Based on E4GT experience, know that's been the only sticking point.)
2 - Yes. (The wipe is actually in a script contained in the flash.)
3 - Yes. (For now)
Didn't get to repack the LJC builds yet to avoid #3, let me see if I have time.
But even if I do they probably won't be uploaded until tomorrow at the earliest.

[REF] Modem / Radio Collection (M919 I9505) Odin Flashable MDL

All modems (radio / baseband) here are for the T-Mobile M919 I9505 variant only!!
i've seen quite a few people around the threads looking for just modems so figured i'd share. i'll try to keep the thread up to date as our new firmwares release. i'll look into making CWM for those that may want it to be flashable but for now
please follow these instructions
with Odin:
Extract the contents of 7zip/zip archive. Put it in your Odin folder. Do not try to extract files from the .tar.md5.
Run Odin 3.07.exe, and prepare Odin:
1. Check "auto-reboot", and uncheck all other options.
2. Click Phone and select the TAR.md5 you downloaded. Leave other fields empty.
3. Don't panic. Odin may freeze while it checks the MD5 signature of the TAR. This is normal.
* Put your device into Download Mode:
5. Power down fully and disconnect the USB cable.
6. Hold Volume Down + Home + Power.
7. You should now be at Download Mode. Connect your device and wait for it to be recognized.
8. Click Start in Odin.
9. Wait!
10. Device will auto reboot

It'll be awesome if it can be flashed through TWRP or CWM.
With this (and possibly a kernel flash), we can now run any on the international i9505 ROMs, right?
Seems like i9505 have the solution to flash through recovery.

Maybe we would get it soon? ;p
I've tried to Odin mdl but it stays at mdb

Can we get the MDB radio as well? Would be good to have to experiment with. I found some dead areas, that I did not notice were dead before I changed to MDL.

this is a one part modem.bin. the Odin file in OP is a two-part modem, modem.bin and NON-HLOS.bin. i'm fairly certain we need both parts and am not sure how that works via CWM. i can make one with both parts flashed to the modem location, but can't guarantee what that would do if anything...

I did the same, Odin to phone and it says MDB but Odin reported 1 successful and 0 failed. Isn't there two files though?
MD5 checked out so I know all of that is solid it wasn't a bad download, maybe it's a glitch or something.

yes, two files but it will always say 1 successful. says same when you flash an entire stock image which includes quite a few files (imgs).

I saw the other file you listed in the scroll report while flashing but it never said it errored at all just listed then completed the reboot, meh maybe it's just one of those things it's hit or miss depending on the device.

[Stock Rom] AT&T 4.1.2 UCMG2 {Rooted}

This was taken from a system dump of the OTA and made into a complete flashable rom. This is a good starting point for devs and for users that just want root. It does not include the bootloaders or modem. I've pulled the modem but I'm weary to flash it.
What's included:
SU installed
Busybox installed
Proper insecure kernel
Deodexed
DOWNLOAD
Here is the UCMG2 modem file that I pulled. This is just the modem.bin, it is not flashable!
PLEASE USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! I still have note tested it!

The script will check the file integrity so if the checksums do not match it will abort.
As always use with caution.
Here is the complete UCDMG2 firmware minus recovery
This will update your phones firmware, bootloader, modem.... while retaining your custom recovery. Nice easy way to update without Odin.
rpm.mbn - Resources and Power Manager
sbl2.mbn - Part of Secondary Bootloader
sbl3.mbn - Part of Secondary Bootloader
aboot.mbn - AP Bootloader
tz.mbn - Trust Zone
NON-HLOS.bin - Modem / Radio
Credit to mnasledov for the flash script.
Simply flash in recovery.

Nice! Will users have to be on the DMG2 baseband for data, wifi, etc to work? That is the case for some updates, but not others. I don't know about this one.

Would you be able to send me the modem file? All I've been able to get is a .bin.p file to patch from the previous modem, and I don't have an AT&T device to run the patch against.
Awesome question any noticeable difference between 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 besides modem for example multi window and that ???

Maybe it's just to early for feedback? I've been looking around some but haven't seen anyone post any definitive changes from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2.

I have not tested that yet. I accidentally cleared my sdcard including my nandroid backup so I've been trying to get this up to the state my backup was.
If anybody has successfully flashed from LK3 please let us know!

Of course there's no way to actually tell so it may just be placebo but it feels terribly slow and almost grinds to a halt at some points. There's also many missing features and I have to touch the screen mulitple times for a response some times. Of course all of that is not true and if you've used the t-mobile port or the i747m builds then you'll get a pretty good idea as to what this offers. If you haven't then you should try it out and see how you like it.

This modem file seems overly large, what method did you use to pull it? The best way (from a device already running the new modem) is to run dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p7 of=/sdcard/modem.bin to get a modem.bin on your internal storage. You might need to adjust the output path depending on your filesystem layout.
EDIT: Never mind, yours is just padded to the full 60MB. It's a good rip. Uploading a flashable version now, you can find it in the modem thread in my sig.
