[Q] Experience with your S3 and overall Samsung itself - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I've been with HTC Evo, 3D, and LTE and thinking about jumping over to Sammy when I get my upgrade in 5 months. I figured both HTC and Sammy will have just about the same specs when they release their next phones and I just wanted to know everyone's experience with dealing with Sammy.

I have been with HTC with 4 phones starting with the original Touch Pro. Before that I had a Samsung Instinct (Yuck). The TP was terrible. The TP2 was better. The phones got progressively better as I moved along. I am sure that the EVO LTE is a very nice phone. It was a tough decision between HTC and Samsung but I went with the GS3 for the extra RAM and removable battery.
I have been very happy with my decision. The GS3 has been the best phone ever.

i have personally been with Sammy a while (Epic (Galaxy) Epic Touch (Galaxy S2) and now the S3. Haven't had any issues at all with them. Dev support has been awesome (Tho i hear Sammy isn't very dev friendly and can be a pain to work with) But overall i've loved all 3 of my Sammy's i have had. (In fact all have been passed to other members of my family and are still in use!)
HTC wise, I have personally never owned them, However wife has.. Battery goes quick with Sense it seems. They have a clean UI for sure. But overall phone specs seem to be lacking imo. (Should have more ram for that fancy interface!!!) But either are good phones. As long as they offer what your looking for and meet your personal needs. Go the direction your comfortable with. (Both seemingly have great dev support.)

I just recently made the switch to the gs3. I've owned the OG evo, evo 3d, and the evo lte. I swore I would never go back to Samsung but I am very happy with the gs3. The lte was a decent phone but to me it felt like it was a rushed product and there were certain things like multitasking and a wonky proximity sensor that really started driving me nuts. I may get the next evo but definitely not on launch day. In my opinion HTC really dropped the ball.

My first actual smart phone was the original Epic 4g which I loved. The only problem I had with it was my 4G radio stopped working. Sprint gave me a refurb which had some hardware defect that was causing it to lockup on the stock ROM and every other ROM I flashed, but after my next replacement I had no problems until I finally retired it for my SGS3. The dev and community support for it at the time was amazing and I never had trouble rooting/flashing ROMs on it or my SGS3.
Their phones are good quality too, I've dropped my Epic and SGS3 countless times with nothing more than the bezel getting chipped up and a scratch on the Epic that turns invisible once the screen is on (I actually saw the ballpoint pen stab test on YouTube, so before returning my 2nd one due to the defect, I tried it out... stabbed the screen as hard as I could with the pen tip numerous times and the screen was still flawless.. it actually knocked all the dust and grime out from the bezel and was cleaner than before lol).
My only negative comment about their phones is TouchWiz (Samsung's launcher) but with the SGS3, it's actually pretty good and I'm running a stockish ROM. The stock ROM is just bloated with apps that I don't use or want, but that's true across most phones/carriers and they put in some pretty weird features that aren't easily disabled, the most annoying being the "Let me turn your screen on EVERYTIME you get a text message!". But there are replacement SecMMS.apks for that.

I have had fairly good luck with high end samsung phones. I had the moment and swapped it for a hero because the moment blew.....
but I have had the epic the sgs2 and now the s3 which were great phones. the evo 3d wasn;t too bad as long as not stock firmware... Htc is kinda slacking their phones are getting worse and worse... you made the right choice with the S3

Thanks guys, I'm finding it kinda hard not to switch since HTC won't update the Evo LTE, but they still have about 5 months to sway me back.

I hear you! I got sick of reading that "Jellybean today" bs thread for the Evo LTE. I had an upgrade available and on Black Friday I used it and sold them my old 3D for $50...so I only paid sales tax!
The first Sammy I had was the Instinct. Then I went with HTC...Hero, OG Evo, 3D, Evo 4G LTE. This SGS3 is the real deal bro! Never thought I would leave HTC as I am a big fan of Sense and I always heard how lame touchwiz was. Not sure about other versions, but touchwiz on this phone is pretty cool I think. Very happy with my switch back to Samsung!

Had positive experience with their device.
No shortcomings other than the fact that their material used can feel a bit cheap.

Samsung isn't dev friendly? Since when? HTC isn't dev friendly at all. Samsung doesn't lock bootloaders and have been releasing source right around the same day OTAs rollout. The only security Samsung implements in the bootloader is the binary flash counter. There's no need to find and exploit to gain full access to the device unlike HTC, Motorola and LG who all try their damndest to prevent customers from rooting their devices. I'd say aside from nexus devices Samsung is the most dev friendly out of all of the major device manufacturers.

I've never owned a samsung before the s3. I've had a lot of htc phones though. I had the touch pro, touch pro 2, hero, evo 4g, and was pretty happy with their build quality physically, except the touch pro, that phone just shattered. what i can tell about the samsung so far is that the interface and software just aren't there. the keyboards don't even have functioning t9 apparently. my phone would tend to freeze, sometimes every 5 minutes requiring a reboot. i hard reset it to no avail. i rooted it, got rid of most of the bloat, still froze. hard reset again and again, nothing. it was a complete headache out of the box. i switched to a custom rom and all is good. i'm not into custom roms but it seemed like the only option. anyways, i dunno... so far, i finally have a working phone after a week of struggling with it. the default sounds are awful. there isn't even an alarm that i can wake up to, and the whistle and water drops just annoy me. so those had to go as well.. i put my evo sounds on there, with a mix from the touch pro sounds, and an alarm from my blackberry, and i'm good to go. i'm a very picky person though so i understand if people don't mind being whistled at when they get an email, but that's not for me.

Yeah, I'm picky too. I love everything about HTC, but the lack of support. They basically put out a new phone with ics then a few months later they push out a different sense ics for the 3d. They push out a one x+ and droid dna, but won't push jb in the us other than those two. But man I do like sense over touchwiz and a bit over aosp. Now, a third leak about jb, it's like having a girlfriend who cheats on you, promises never to do it again, and cheats on you with the pizza boy and the mail man. Five months for HTC to change.

yeah htc seems to be more into creating new stuff than supporting their older hardware. i waited forever for ics on my og evo, but that never happened. they wouldn't even release a front camera driver for us haha
but yeah.. samsung is ok, just not my preference. i've spent too many hours just trying to make it livable, but it's working out pretty well now. there's just certain things that bother me, but at least the battery comes out.

EVO For An Epic????

Thinking about trading my EVO 4G for an Epic 4G......Why should I? Why shouldn't I? The reason I'm contemplating is because the EVO is about to become old news once the EVO 3D comes out....while the Galaxy S II has a later release date on Sprint..........plus I can run cm7 and basically have a nexus s with a keyboard minus the nfc chip.......what do you guys and gals think???

I would advise against it. My fiancee has an Epic Fail...and she hates it. It locks up all the time and the SMS goes out of order. The battery is horrid. The worst ones are those that came stock with 2.1 and later upgraded to 2.2. They lock up all the time.

The epic to me is old news already I have only seen one in my life time but with the addition of added bulk and a far less dev support I say stick with the evo
sent from my Motorola XOOM
The epic has been old news for a while now sadly. I used it for a week and hated it. I was so happy when I went to the Evo. I'm excited to see how the 3D compares to the original, although I am sure that the 3D will blow it away. You should either wait for the 3D or the GSII
bought the Epic on opening day and quickly regreted it. enough said, if you want new hardware go with the 3D. I will be staying HTC for a while to come..
epic
better screen colors
far better wifi speed..this is significant if you have a connection over 15Mb
better battery life using bonsai
keyboard if you need that (the slider is kinda soft though)
feels like a toy, due to all the plastic
buttons get a tad soft
evo wins
larger screen
better build quality
better dev support--big plus
battery life sucks
data connections seem about the same to me
I have them both sitting here, two separate account
My first recommendation would be to decide if you want a physical keyboard or not.
They add a lot of bulk and take space that can house other/faster components. I would never go back to a physical keyboard. I would rather a smaller/lighter phone with more screen real estate and a slimmer profile.
...however some ppl (my wife for example) miss the physical keyboard greatly which would change things...

I had a Samsung vibrant, basically an epic without a keyboard. I hated it. Too much lag, bad GPS...good screen and huge internal storage were the only good things. Switched to sprint and the evo and haven't looked back
We're comin from a pure power source.
You'd hate it as much as I did.
The Epic feels very fat compared to the Evo. The slider is constantly trying to open when you don't want it to. Touchwiz is not as nice as Sense (if you're keeping them somewhat stock). The colors on the Epic, especially reds and oranges, seem way overboosted and unnatural on the Epic, and when watching movies on it, I could see a "screen door" type of thing on it.
I only had an Epic because I sent my Evo in for repairs (and opted out of Sprint's insurance). I had it for a week, and was REALLY happy to return it.
Evo to Epic
I wouldn't do it, I had an Epic and 1) nowhere as big as a developer/user base than for the Evo. 2) The LCD is nice but IMO the battery on Epic is less than that of the Evo. 3) the camera on my Epic just straight up died for a no reason after the 2.2 after was applied and would cease to ever work again. (google it, "camera failed to start samsung epic).
Keep the Evo!
I agree with the other posts. The epic adds too much bulk just for a keyboard which has low quality buttons and could better utilize this space for more and better hardware. Plus the Dev support is substantially less. Stick with the evo, it is much better

lol good luck getting CM7 or any custom rom to run on the Epic.
Lol....I know that's the only thing that is stopping me from doing the trade.....
Yeah and my wife also has the Epic. I get far better battery life than she does. We both leave work at the same time, and at the end of the day her phone is usually dead on the way home and I still have 30-40% left.
EVO For An Epic
I have both phones, and I think I am about to reiterate what a few people have said before. The epic does have a few things going for it, but I believe the user experience and SUPPORT are just way better for the evo. I took my evo back from my ex a week ago and it has been in my pocket way more than my epic. For a phone sprint likes to push as one of their top phones, the epic just doesn't have the support it needs from samsung. Long story short, stick with HTC.
The epic is Not a step forward. They are from the same generation of smartphones.
If you really want a keyboard, then you will want a Evo Shift.
Stick with the Evo... at least til you can get a 3d or whatever else is coming down the pipes. with the new GB update and all the new 3.0 roms out there, the Evo will have a nice new jolt of life.

What phone is worth trading your Epic for?

I was just wondering what phones are better than the Epic because I honestly can't find one better lol.
I see qbking77 traded his Epic but I can't find proof that Nexus S 4G is remotely close to being better than the Epic.
We may have the best smartphone on the market or am I just crazy!

The plus for the nexus s, atleast from what I can tell looking from the outside looking in, is it has a more active dev community. And don't get me wrong I am in no way shape or form putting down our magnificent epic devs

I would consider the EVO 3D, Photon, or the Nexus S 4G at this point. I've actually been using a loaner NS4G for a couple weeks and while I do like it, I feel it has a few shortcomings. Most of them I was aware of beforehand though.
I miss the LED light to indicate when there's a missed call/text etc. You can bypass this with getting a special kernel which can allow you to activate the backlights for the capacitive buttons, but under flourescent lighting at work its sometimes hard to spot that.
Also there's no SD card so you are stuck with the 16gb of internal memory. Not necessarily a huge issue but for some people it could be a problem.
Samsprint already issued an update to fix wonky reception with their radios. It sorta helped mine out but it still doesn't seem to match what I was getting with the Epic. That goes for 3G, 4G, and wifi. Kind of a bummer actually and this is what sours me the most on the phone.
I haven't actually seen a Photon yet but after reading one of the threads here on the Epic forum about it, I would love to try it out. It sounds like the battery life (with moderate to heavy usage) is amazing. The only way I get decent battery life with the Epic is to turn it into a dumb phone.
The EVO 3D was actually a lot more impressive than I thought it would be. The 3D can cause a headache at first but once you find the sweetspot the 3D pictures and videos look amazing. It blew me away. My coworker has one after upgrading from the first EVO and he gets better battery life with it and he has the same apps and same usage patterns. So it is very tempting.
All in all there are a lot of good phones out there and its just a matter of preference and what you are looking for in a phone.
I'm going to have to recommend the EVO 3d. I was first concern about the lack of keyboard, cause I came form a long line of quarty keyboard phones. After the first week I no longer think about missing a keyboard. As far as the screen goes, the Epic is brighter. But the 3D is far more sharper and crisp. Sense 3.0 is a far better launcher then touch wiz or any other launcher currently in the market. Battery life on the 3D is 100% better then the Epic. Boy how good it is to, not have to worry about finding a AC outlet.
I would say just about any.
I am an htc fanboy so I would have to vote for evo3d which I have now. Even the original EVO 4G was a way better phone than the epic. Has it ever received the gingerbread update?
Sent from my EVO 3D on the now or later network
I went from 5 months on the Epic, had an Evo temporarily, and now Nexus S. The Nexus is by far my favorite, I plan on staying with a Nexus from here on. There ar things I miss about the Epic, but having a phone that you can do anything with is worth giving those things up. The Nexus flies stock, and you can run MIUI, CM7, stock, modified stock, the devs are close to porting Sense, and if you want they have tw4 available. I am using a modified stock rom right now and love it.

Really? You think the original evo was better than the epic? I had one and really didn't like it at all. Battery life was not as good and after a while it really started lagging with anything. When comparing to games on your phone the epic absolutely crushes the evo in my opinion. I'll also never be able to go back to a basic LCD again. The super amoled has me forever ...
I had the epic but bought the evo 3d. I loved the epic! But its no more longer the best on the market. It has a single core, all the phones now have a dual core. I love the qwerty keyboard on the epic! i miss it so much! If samsung made a 1.2ghz dual core, super amoled plus screen, qwerty kb, better software. Id deff buy that phone in aheartbeat. Love the epic. It deff was one of the best phones out. Best single core! Its so underrated tho! They never advertised it, it was never in the media. Thats why everyone thinks evo 4f is better than the epic bc sprint practically sponsored it! Epic never made it to the media! I'm now an owner of the evo 3d only for the devolopment, and love it!
-3D EVO-
Yes someguy, I think overall the EVO was way better than the epic. I never really play games on my phone so i can't compare that part of it but as far as running wise my EVO was always super smooth. I played with one or two epics and noticed lags here and there. I love sense so UI to me is totally more appealing than Samsung UI. Lots of people loved the epic but look at the support it got for gingerbread. Everyone has personal favorites though.

[Q] Touch Pro 2 Vs Epic 4G

Hey all....I've had my Touch Pro 2 for a few years now. Thinking about upgrading to this Samsung. Is it really worth it or should I wait a bit longer for the Galaxy III?
It's a beast, in my opinion go ahead and get the Epic 4G Touch. Worst case scenario, you have 14 days to decide if you like it... you can return it in the 14 day window if you don't. You have nothing to lose.
sounds like u might like a evo shift. i stay htc.
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA Premium App
If you are thinking of waiting for the Galaxy III, then when it finally comes out, you'll just be thinking of waiting for the Galaxy IV. But thats just my logic, get it nows, no questions ask. Unless your thinking about the E3d or the photon.
If you can hold out this long with the TP2, then the Epic Touch should hold you over until the Galaxy VII phones are out. You are obviously a person of infinite patience.
As someone who jumped from the TP2 to the Evo 4G, I would say you should definitely do it. Android basically kills WinMo for every single task outside of voice command. And I mean, it slaughters WinMo. And I used to love WinMo.
If you still use your slideout keyboard all the time, your transition to touch KB could be rough, but I'd still give the Epic Touch a go since the screen (and threrefore keyboard) is so big. I rarely used my slideout on the TP2 (mostly because it froze most of the programs in the middle of the portrait to landscape transition), so I had very little learning curve going to full touch.
I wouldn't go to the Shift even though the form factor is similar. Wait for a dual core slider if you absolutely need one. The Shift is already long in the tooth.

I was exactly in your position but I pre-ordered and picked up my E4GT yesterday . The reason I went from SERO to SERO-P is because I am a fanatic of AMOLED displays and Samsung's are the best in the marketplace. The device was supposed to support USB HOST (out of box it does not) so I am disappointed and I can't take pictures while on a phone call, which is also odd. Otherwise, this device is a powerhouse. I remember how I had to wait for the Touch Pro 2 to boot and then wait for it to show the lockscreen before I could unlock the device. Now, the device boots so damn fast that my reflexes feel slower than the phone (I might be exaggerating). The TP2 though feels like Windows XP after 4 years of use and no re-installs and E4GT feels like Windows 7 fresh install. If you have any questions, I will be more than happy to answer.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I really like the look of this phone and felt it is prolly time to FINALLY upgrade. I'm familiar with android using an Asus Transformer. I wanted the EVO 3d but held off for reasons unknown. I think this is the ONE.
forgive me...I'm OLD
Nothing to forgive you for, you're just trying to make the right decision and I can't blame ya for that. It's a great phone
I really think you will love this phone! Ive had an apache » mogul » tp1 » tp2 » epic1 » now epic touch... See a pattern? Ive still got the tp2 but this epic touch, even the epic1 blows the tp2 away... And this is coming from a long time windows mobile user, give this thing a try, go on down to best buy lol

Check the new windows mango then come again.... the new windows is smoking.... and I love Android now, but let me tell you Skype built in, and such it is going to start heating up very soon with these phone OS systems!
I just can't believe you have been using a TP2 for this long. Don't get me wrong, when I was with Verizon and it first came there I thought I was in heaven but 15 phones later i can't imagine still using it but I admire your loyalty but my god man..I mean..MY GOD MAN!
I was in the same boat last year, upgraded from SERO TP2 to SERO Premium with a Epic 4g. Don't miss my TP2 one bit.
I'm sure the Epic Touch is even better.
Do it!
Yeah man, I had the tp2 as well. it has been sitting in it's cradle charger for over a year. I did use it for a minute, as a temporary phone while waiting for a replacement for a lost epic 4g. When I did, I hated it. I love my epic compared to it. I can't wait till the touch comes in the mail. I will never go back to windows phones. Android is so ahead of the game and getting better by the minute. Until the nexus prime comes out, the epic touch 4g will be the best phone on the market and only the prime will compare for a while. Even with the software holdups that the galaxy s line has had, I wouldn't have traded my current phone for any other one until now.

I also just upgraded from TP2 to this, and yeah, you won't regret it. The only thing that bugs me is this phone is too thin & light, lol. After carrying around the brick of the TP2, I always knew I had it when carrying it in the same hand as my laptop (which is a lot). I could drop the epic and not even realize it.
thats like comparing the dreamcast to PS3
But without the nostalgia.

It's all relative...
phonedog.com/2011/09/16/samsung-nexus-prime-ice-cream-sandwich-and-galaxy-s-iii-details-emerge/
"Reportedly set for a debut at MWC 2012 and a worldwide launch in mid- 2012, the GSIII is said to feature a 4. 65-inch "Super AMOLED III" display with a resolution of 1280x1024 and 352ppi. Other features slated to make it into the Galaxy S III include a 2.0 GHz quad- core processor, 32GB storage, 1.5GB RAM, 10- megapixel camera, 1080p video capture at 60fps, 2,250mAh battery, and ICS beneath "TouchWiz 5." This new version of Samsung's skin is supposedly co-developed by Google and is less "intrusive" than previous versions of TouchWiz."
The GSIII will be a QUANTUM LEAP and leapfrog the current pretenders.
By next summer the Epic 4G Touch will be the Winmo device of its time‚ contemptuously sneered at by those with the then latest & greatest.
Count on it.
22 Months
I'll jump in and take a bashing with the OP. I too, am coming from a Touch Pro 2 as well. It's been a longgg 22 months. It's night and day the difference in technology then. I actually was eligible to upgrade for the Photon, which I did upgrade to; but then promptly returned it as I knew it was only a matter of time before the "Within" was released once it passed through the FCC.
I honestly think that in another 20 months when I can upgrade again, technology will once again dwarf what's out there today. But at least I think the design of the phone won't be that different. Just like the OP, I don't think either of us chose to keep the TP2 this long. It's just our upgrade time. Now if only Letstalk would actually ship it!
It's like comparing a PDA to a new tablet

Those specs don't even make sense. A phone with a 4:3 aspect screen? The screen alone would be 24.5mm wider than the body of the Epic Touch. It would be almost as wide as the Evo 4G is tall.
Someone is pulling someone's leg.
You're not going to get a 3 generation leap in less than a year.

Bye-bye HTC

Thought I would get this started, but how many are coming from an HTC device?

My last one was the TP2

My last HTC was the Hero (I did love it, but it's slow as sh**.)
I've come from a few HTC devices (Mogul, Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2) and am currently on my EVO 3D. Glad to finally try out Samsung and see what the differences are between manufacturers!
To be honest I was loving the new EVO LTE until I saw it had no removable battery. Pretty much a deal breaker for me since I like to have spares, but that's just my opinion

I'm in the same boat, im currently using an Evo 3D, and had the Evo LTE for 13 days before returning it to order the SGS3...
I have had the Evo 4G also, so ive had HTC products for a while and like them, loved the Evo LTE and even like sense... but the 2 gigs of ram and removable battery, not to mention all the other features of the SGS3 made me switch...
also since i had been using Sense for so long, getting the Evo LTE didn't feel like this crazy new phone, sure it was fast, beautiful screen, good battery... but sense is sense... now i know i could have gotten different launchers, but i really haven't messed with launchers, roms, kernels since my OG Evo... honestly just dont have the time to do all that...
so touchwiz will be new for me and make it feel like a real new phone
Yes. Coming from OG EVO
Sent from my heart
As for Android... OG Droid, Incredible, OG Evo, Evo 3D, Sprint SGS2... Sometime in the future, a PB 32GB SGS3.
Epic Touch 4g / SGS2 is a great phone. But I like swapping often. Don't miss HTC Sense. Don't mind most of touchwiz though
All I have had has been HTC phones which include Mogul, Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2 and am currently on my EVO Shift. I always liked HTC and Sense but started to get upset with the 2.3 update bug that never got fixed and forced me to use the Go launcher which had a Sense 3.0 theme. Once I looked at the new evo lte it appeared boring and the same of what I have less a keyboard and a removable battery....couldn't get excited about it.
So I decided to jump into the S3 mix and see what happens. Concerns are the email client and exchange server integration aren't as good as HTC. I also understand the spell checking is not as good. I am a big corporate email user and need spell checking....this may be a deal breaker in me keeping the phone. mynwife also had a Samdung transform which was ****.
Anyone have experience with the sg3 email?

OG Evo here... it's still a nice phone. I got a 32gb coming sometime, and EvoLTE coming friday so I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be blown away twice
I'm still trying to decide if I want to exchange my EVO for the s3. Things I'm just concerned about is GPS and radios. Review from engadget stilll said GPS locks faster than EVO but EVO was more accurate. As far as doing speed test on att version, HTC had faster downloads but they did say they will re do test when phone is broken into. I went to EVO from e4gt and I never used 3g on my epic because it was HORRIBLE. I now use my 3g on my EVO a lot more since its actually decent to surf the net or xda app. I have till the 28th to decide so hopefully I get to play one at my store soon. Non removable battery not a killer for me since I can get 7+ hrs screen on and 17+ hrs of battery. I got a zagg rechargeble battery pack that I can use if I need to.

If you mean the comparison between the GSIII variants they said the opposite I believe.
Engadget said:
Both models lock onto GPS very quickly -- AT&T's is slightly faster at about three seconds, while Sprint's grabs your position within six to seven -- but we find Sprint's version offers up more precise coordinates.

Just sold my Evo 3D on Craigslist 3 days ago and have been using my oldschool palm pre for 3 days (talk about frustrating!) until my GS3 arrives, which is tomorrow thank the good Lord above! I suffered through a year of a terrible camera and even worse speaker phone on the 3D and am interested to see what Samsung is all about!
I manage my wifes phone and she's coming over from the original evo. Its a good phone and still in good condition but she's ready for something new. It will make a good backup phone.

yep, not at all impressed with the evo lte, will be exchanging it as soon as possible.
My last 5 phones was HTC(big grey pocket PC , mogul, tp1, tp2, evo). I got my hands on the GS2 n it was over... I'm Samsung for life now... still waiting for my 32gb s3...
OG Evo, but I decided to go big so I'm in 32GB limbo.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy 3 vs 4G LTE

Hey guys,
I would love to have some light shed on this topic in order to help me decide which phone to get. But please bear this in mind, I am a technical person so I would like some opinions with good reasons not just diehard fans like HTC or Samsung all the way and never give a justifiable reason.
That being said, my major concerns are smoothness, camera quality, and battery. So I have read and watched many reviews online, I feel S3 somehow is a little bit snappier with the transition animation. 4G LTE is choppier or more laggy by just a very tiny amount. Not sure if it's true. I was using my roommate's S3 which is Saudi Arabian version. It was kinda laggy (it's more laggy than my evo 3D)....but could be just his phone.
For camera part, it's very interesting. With all the reviews online, one would expect S3 is better than 4G LTE and most certainly better than better than EVO 3D. However, I was just playing around with his S3 and my EVO 3D.
Here are some pictures with default settings,

As for battery life, I don't have 4G LTE or S3 so I can't test about it. One thing is that S3 can swap the battery. It would be great if someone can share some real life data.
Please also note that, my EVO 3D is rooted with ZR3D GT rom and my roommate's S3 is Saudi Arabian version. This could affect the very non-scientific test I carried out.
Thank you very much for helping me out with the choice between these two great phones.
There are a lot of post about this all over the place in each S3 forum, but I will try to give you the short version. I came from and Evo 3d myself and while I do miss HTC's awesome widgets, there were a few reasons I left HTC behind.
Locked bootloader, Htc unlock is half assed and with each new update they find ways to lock the phone again.
Build quality, I went through 4 3d's in less than one year and that is unacceptable to me 2 with Ausrion and 2 from Sprint (all refurbs).
Multitasking, the evo 4g lte has a serious multitasking issue and Sense is to blame for that one. Even with a Custom Rom its still present.
Now the camera on that phone is very nice and is better than the s3, but I am one of those people that say its a phone first, go grab a nice camera if you want better pictures. Oh one more this about that phone is that it bends if you mistakenly leave it in you back pocket and sit on it, granted the s3 is delicate as well but I have never seen a phone bend before.
Hope that helps a little, Touchwiz takes some getting used to but it is actually a great OS with all the gestures they add to the phone. But you can always try either phone and return it in that 15 day window that Sprint allows.
Edit: Battery life is very nice on this phone, I can't say how long it last during extreme/heavy usage though and I am always near a charger and wifi.
I returned the Evo 4GLTE for the SG3. There appears to be some potential hardware issues with the Evo that give it a hard time connecting to and maitaining a LTE connection that requires the user to toggle airplane mode on and off.
Im still adjusting to touchwiz, but it isnt all bad.Battery life was a little better on the Evo,but worst I have had on the GS3 is 12 hours of heavy use. It broke my heart to dump HTC considering Ive had the original touch, touch pro, touch pro 2,OG Evo,Evo3d and the EvoLTE,but samsung stepped it up with this phone. It is still a little plasticy (if thats even a word) for my liking, but once my otterbox arrives tomorrow, none of that will matter.
I liked the camera and am missing my dedicated camera button on the Evo,but it isnt that big of a difference.Front facing cam is better on the GS3.Rooting the GS3 and flashing a custom recovery and rom was completely painless on the GS3 as well.Im in a city that is currently being worked on for 4g so that is what drove me to exchange it.
First if you choose "yes this is a question" it belongs in Q&A
Second please use the other phones discussion in the stickies
Thanks
FNM
