Bye-bye HTC - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Thought I would get this started, but how many are coming from an HTC device?

My last one was the TP2
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk 2

My last HTC was the Hero (I did love it, but it's slow as sh**.)

I've come from a few HTC devices (Mogul, Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2) and am currently on my EVO 3D. Glad to finally try out Samsung and see what the differences are between manufacturers!
To be honest I was loving the new EVO LTE until I saw it had no removable battery. Pretty much a deal breaker for me since I like to have spares, but that's just my opinion

Evolte I hate it

went from HTC touch diamond to HTC google nexus one, now samsung S3. I've had major problems with all those htc phones, can't wait to switch

I'm in the same boat, im currently using an Evo 3D, and had the Evo LTE for 13 days before returning it to order the SGS3...
I have had the Evo 4G also, so ive had HTC products for a while and like them, loved the Evo LTE and even like sense... but the 2 gigs of ram and removable battery, not to mention all the other features of the SGS3 made me switch...
also since i had been using Sense for so long, getting the Evo LTE didn't feel like this crazy new phone, sure it was fast, beautiful screen, good battery... but sense is sense... now i know i could have gotten different launchers, but i really haven't messed with launchers, roms, kernels since my OG Evo... honestly just dont have the time to do all that...
so touchwiz will be new for me and make it feel like a real new phone

Yes. Coming from OG EVO
Sent from my heart

As for Android... OG Droid, Incredible, OG Evo, Evo 3D, Sprint SGS2... Sometime in the future, a PB 32GB SGS3.
Epic Touch 4g / SGS2 is a great phone. But I like swapping often. Don't miss HTC Sense. Don't mind most of touchwiz though

All I have had has been HTC phones which include Mogul, Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2 and am currently on my EVO Shift. I always liked HTC and Sense but started to get upset with the 2.3 update bug that never got fixed and forced me to use the Go launcher which had a Sense 3.0 theme. Once I looked at the new evo lte it appeared boring and the same of what I have less a keyboard and a removable battery....couldn't get excited about it.
So I decided to jump into the S3 mix and see what happens. Concerns are the email client and exchange server integration aren't as good as HTC. I also understand the spell checking is not as good. I am a big corporate email user and need spell checking....this may be a deal breaker in me keeping the phone. mynwife also had a Samdung transform which was ****.
Anyone have experience with the sg3 email?

OG Evo here... it's still a nice phone. I got a 32gb coming sometime, and EvoLTE coming friday so I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be blown away twice

I'm still trying to decide if I want to exchange my EVO for the s3. Things I'm just concerned about is GPS and radios. Review from engadget stilll said GPS locks faster than EVO but EVO was more accurate. As far as doing speed test on att version, HTC had faster downloads but they did say they will re do test when phone is broken into. I went to EVO from e4gt and I never used 3g on my epic because it was HORRIBLE. I now use my 3g on my EVO a lot more since its actually decent to surf the net or xda app. I have till the 28th to decide so hopefully I get to play one at my store soon. Non removable battery not a killer for me since I can get 7+ hrs screen on and 17+ hrs of battery. I got a zagg rechargeble battery pack that I can use if I need to.

If you mean the comparison between the GSIII variants they said the opposite I believe.

Both models lock onto GPS very quickly -- AT&T's is slightly faster at about three seconds, while Sprint's grabs your position within six to seven -- but we find Sprint's version offers up more precise coordinates.

Just sold my Evo 3D on Craigslist 3 days ago and have been using my oldschool palm pre for 3 days (talk about frustrating!) until my GS3 arrives, which is tomorrow thank the good Lord above! I suffered through a year of a terrible camera and even worse speaker phone on the 3D and am interested to see what Samsung is all about!

I manage my wifes phone and she's coming over from the original evo. Its a good phone and still in good condition but she's ready for something new. It will make a good backup phone.

yep, not at all impressed with the evo lte, will be exchanging it as soon as possible.

My last 5 phones was HTC(big grey pocket PC , mogul, tp1, tp2, evo). I got my hands on the GS2 n it was over... I'm Samsung for life now... still waiting for my 32gb s3...

OG Evo, but I decided to go big so I'm in 32GB limbo.

EVO For An Epic????

Thinking about trading my EVO 4G for an Epic 4G......Why should I? Why shouldn't I? The reason I'm contemplating is because the EVO is about to become old news once the EVO 3D comes out....while the Galaxy S II has a later release date on Sprint..........plus I can run cm7 and basically have a nexus s with a keyboard minus the nfc chip.......what do you guys and gals think???

I would advise against it. My fiancee has an Epic Fail...and she hates it. It locks up all the time and the SMS goes out of order. The battery is horrid. The worst ones are those that came stock with 2.1 and later upgraded to 2.2. They lock up all the time.

The epic to me is old news already I have only seen one in my life time but with the addition of added bulk and a far less dev support I say stick with the evo
sent from my Motorola XOOM
The epic has been old news for a while now sadly. I used it for a week and hated it. I was so happy when I went to the Evo. I'm excited to see how the 3D compares to the original, although I am sure that the 3D will blow it away. You should either wait for the 3D or the GSII
bought the Epic on opening day and quickly regreted it. enough said, if you want new hardware go with the 3D. I will be staying HTC for a while to come..
epic
better screen colors
far better wifi speed..this is significant if you have a connection over 15Mb
better battery life using bonsai
keyboard if you need that (the slider is kinda soft though)
feels like a toy, due to all the plastic
buttons get a tad soft
evo wins
larger screen
better build quality
better dev support--big plus
battery life sucks
data connections seem about the same to me
I have them both sitting here, two separate account
My first recommendation would be to decide if you want a physical keyboard or not.
They add a lot of bulk and take space that can house other/faster components. I would never go back to a physical keyboard. I would rather a smaller/lighter phone with more screen real estate and a slimmer profile.
...however some ppl (my wife for example) miss the physical keyboard greatly which would change things...
Sent from my Mynioned EVO using XDA App
I had a Samsung vibrant, basically an epic without a keyboard. I hated it. Too much lag, bad GPS...good screen and huge internal storage were the only good things. Switched to sprint and the evo and haven't looked back
We're comin from a pure power source.
You'd hate it as much as I did.
The Epic feels very fat compared to the Evo. The slider is constantly trying to open when you don't want it to. Touchwiz is not as nice as Sense (if you're keeping them somewhat stock). The colors on the Epic, especially reds and oranges, seem way overboosted and unnatural on the Epic, and when watching movies on it, I could see a "screen door" type of thing on it.
I only had an Epic because I sent my Evo in for repairs (and opted out of Sprint's insurance). I had it for a week, and was REALLY happy to return it.
Evo to Epic
I wouldn't do it, I had an Epic and 1) nowhere as big as a developer/user base than for the Evo. 2) The LCD is nice but IMO the battery on Epic is less than that of the Evo. 3) the camera on my Epic just straight up died for a no reason after the 2.2 after was applied and would cease to ever work again. (google it, "camera failed to start samsung epic).
Keep the Evo!
I agree with the other posts. The epic adds too much bulk just for a keyboard which has low quality buttons and could better utilize this space for more and better hardware. Plus the Dev support is substantially less. Stick with the evo, it is much better

lol good luck getting CM7 or any custom rom to run on the Epic.
Lol....I know that's the only thing that is stopping me from doing the trade.....
Yeah and my wife also has the Epic. I get far better battery life than she does. We both leave work at the same time, and at the end of the day her phone is usually dead on the way home and I still have 30-40% left.
EVO For An Epic
I have both phones, and I think I am about to reiterate what a few people have said before. The epic does have a few things going for it, but I believe the user experience and SUPPORT are just way better for the evo. I took my evo back from my ex a week ago and it has been in my pocket way more than my epic. For a phone sprint likes to push as one of their top phones, the epic just doesn't have the support it needs from samsung. Long story short, stick with HTC.
The epic is Not a step forward. They are from the same generation of smartphones.
If you really want a keyboard, then you will want a Evo Shift.
Stick with the Evo... at least til you can get a 3d or whatever else is coming down the pipes. with the new GB update and all the new 3.0 roms out there, the Evo will have a nice new jolt of life.

What phone is worth trading your Epic for?

I was just wondering what phones are better than the Epic because I honestly can't find one better lol.
I see qbking77 traded his Epic but I can't find proof that Nexus S 4G is remotely close to being better than the Epic.
We may have the best smartphone on the market or am I just crazy!

The plus for the nexus s, atleast from what I can tell looking from the outside looking in, is it has a more active dev community. And don't get me wrong I am in no way shape or form putting down our magnificent epic devs

Same here with the keyboard, I come from a long line of qwerty phones. It would be an adjustment, but id sure welcome a nexus s.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
I would consider the EVO 3D, Photon, or the Nexus S 4G at this point. I've actually been using a loaner NS4G for a couple weeks and while I do like it, I feel it has a few shortcomings. Most of them I was aware of beforehand though.
I miss the LED light to indicate when there's a missed call/text etc. You can bypass this with getting a special kernel which can allow you to activate the backlights for the capacitive buttons, but under flourescent lighting at work its sometimes hard to spot that.
Also there's no SD card so you are stuck with the 16gb of internal memory. Not necessarily a huge issue but for some people it could be a problem.
Samsprint already issued an update to fix wonky reception with their radios. It sorta helped mine out but it still doesn't seem to match what I was getting with the Epic. That goes for 3G, 4G, and wifi. Kind of a bummer actually and this is what sours me the most on the phone.
I haven't actually seen a Photon yet but after reading one of the threads here on the Epic forum about it, I would love to try it out. It sounds like the battery life (with moderate to heavy usage) is amazing. The only way I get decent battery life with the Epic is to turn it into a dumb phone.
The EVO 3D was actually a lot more impressive than I thought it would be. The 3D can cause a headache at first but once you find the sweetspot the 3D pictures and videos look amazing. It blew me away. My coworker has one after upgrading from the first EVO and he gets better battery life with it and he has the same apps and same usage patterns. So it is very tempting.
All in all there are a lot of good phones out there and its just a matter of preference and what you are looking for in a phone.
I'm going to have to recommend the EVO 3d. I was first concern about the lack of keyboard, cause I came form a long line of quarty keyboard phones. After the first week I no longer think about missing a keyboard. As far as the screen goes, the Epic is brighter. But the 3D is far more sharper and crisp. Sense 3.0 is a far better launcher then touch wiz or any other launcher currently in the market. Battery life on the 3D is 100% better then the Epic. Boy how good it is to, not have to worry about finding a AC outlet.
I would say just about any.
I am an htc fanboy so I would have to vote for evo3d which I have now. Even the original EVO 4G was a way better phone than the epic. Has it ever received the gingerbread update?
Sent from my EVO 3D on the now or later network
I went from 5 months on the Epic, had an Evo temporarily, and now Nexus S. The Nexus is by far my favorite, I plan on staying with a Nexus from here on. There ar things I miss about the Epic, but having a phone that you can do anything with is worth giving those things up. The Nexus flies stock, and you can run MIUI, CM7, stock, modified stock, the devs are close to porting Sense, and if you want they have tw4 available. I am using a modified stock rom right now and love it.

Really? You think the original evo was better than the epic? I had one and really didn't like it at all. Battery life was not as good and after a while it really started lagging with anything. When comparing to games on your phone the epic absolutely crushes the evo in my opinion. I'll also never be able to go back to a basic LCD again. The super amoled has me forever ...
I had the epic but bought the evo 3d. I loved the epic! But its no more longer the best on the market. It has a single core, all the phones now have a dual core. I love the qwerty keyboard on the epic! i miss it so much! If samsung made a 1.2ghz dual core, super amoled plus screen, qwerty kb, better software. Id deff buy that phone in aheartbeat. Love the epic. It deff was one of the best phones out. Best single core! Its so underrated tho! They never advertised it, it was never in the media. Thats why everyone thinks evo 4f is better than the epic bc sprint practically sponsored it! Epic never made it to the media! I'm now an owner of the evo 3d only for the devolopment, and love it!
-3D EVO-
Yes someguy, I think overall the EVO was way better than the epic. I never really play games on my phone so i can't compare that part of it but as far as running wise my EVO was always super smooth. I played with one or two epics and noticed lags here and there. I love sense so UI to me is totally more appealing than Samsung UI. Lots of people loved the epic but look at the support it got for gingerbread. Everyone has personal favorites though.

E4gt by a long shot. Smoother ,longer battery life!
The epic 4g touch by a long shot. Samsung focused on software amd hardware instead of a gimmick like the 3d did and the nexus 4g is a great phone but it's out of date hardware wise.
Lots of other reasons, but those are the biggest ones.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Evo 3D isnt even used as a benchmark when comparing newly released phones, almost as if it is "old" hardware", such as the Nexus 4G Epic Touch IS the best device of 2011, IMHO it will beat out the Galaxy Nexus as well, once we have official ICS anyway. But by then HTC's Quad Core device will drop, making the Epic Tough "old hardware" If you want today's top of the line device, then its Epic Touch FTW!
I disagree on the evo3d not being a benchmark. A nexus feels slow compared to either of the other 2 other phones. When it comes to comparing a et4g and evo3d, u almost have to spend a week just you figure out what screen u prefer (i know people say a evo3d looks washed out when side by side). Truth of the matter is that both screens are terrific and depends on ur style. As for power, its like racing 2 new street bikes, both are plenty fast and to me, speed isnt a issue. The new sg2s actually has the same processor (almost) as the 3d. Now it comes down to the joy of using, and i pick sense everytime. Htc has of nice widgets that play well with sync'n ur accounts. Facebook is fully intergrated with everything. At the end, both phones dont leave much to be desired. U will be completely happy with a evo3d or et4g. Ill also add that the et4g takes.better pics, but also not 3d (so ur choice). To me 3d is great but i would trade cameras with the et4g if i could. I think the evo3d screen is way more responsive and feels alot better and smoother to use. This might not be a issue if u have never owned a sensitive device.
***i left out bugs and battery life because of it being a misleading issue. Xda is full of whinners who complain about every detail on both devices. Fanboys lie about battery life on both devices. Both make it thru the day and charge it at night.
No question the Epic Touch. I have had all three these phones. The EVO-3D was a major let down for the successor to the classic EVO 4G. I returned it after two weeks.
Bought the Nexus-S 4G and it was a cool little phone. Nice screen. Lightweight. Fast for single core.
Last week picked up the ET4 and man this thing feels and looks like a next gen device compared to those other two. Like those other phones feel years old. The ET4 has an amazing screen. Very thin. Lightweight...ridiculous long battery life. And the good ROM's are finally coming out.
For Sprint this is hands down their best device.

there are issues with EVERY phone. The prime will have its fair share of issues, hell, they just rolled out an ETA for nexus users to fix a volume but.
I wouldnt take any other phone except for the galaxy note. and even thats too big. The et4g will be in my hands for at least the next 6 months. its THAT good. Had the nexus, evo3d, tried the photon, there is no comparison whatsoever.
Also, no point in waiting on new phones, because guess what, after you wait, then finally make a purchase, something better is going to come out 2 months later.
This is a great phone and you will love it. It is super thin but doesnt fell cheap. It is much lighter than the Evo (I have held the 3D so I cant compare). Very fast and the screen is beauty. You can even see it clearly in daylight at a medium black light setting.
The only issue I am having with it is when I play a game on it it just closing the app because of a sound issue.
Here is the posting on google about the problem:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=17623
And here is the possible solution to the issue:
http://www.grayfinstudios.com/post?id=ag1ncmF5Zmlud2ViYXBwcgwLEgRQb3N0GIHuBQw
But even with that problem the phone is still wonderful. I was looking at the Sprint forum a few nights ago and Samsung and Sprint are suppose to be working on a fix. But you know how that goes.
ive tried them all. epic 4g touch is bar far the fastest and best battery
Epic Touch 4G by a very long shot. The device is super fast and the stock rom is very well rounded. I am a flash-junky, and while my device is rooted, I am still running the stock rom. Even the default launcher is great, although I still prefer ADW Launcher. The device runs full flash and never laggy no matter what sites I go on. Even adult sites (just to test of course ). I can play every video type I've tried with the stock video player. Even AVI and MKV. Even things that my netbook has trouble running, the E4gT runs without a problem.

I have the E4GT, gave my Evo 3D to my wife. Nexus is coming out with new model called Prime.
E4GT vs Evo 3D = E4GT for sure.
Keep in mind E4GT has bugs for some people (including myself) loss of service and games crashing, a fix is "supposed to be coming soon". Even with this bug, I choose E4GT.
E4GT vs Nexus Prime:
Every aspect Nexus wins for me with BIG except the camera.
Note that in camera world 8mp vs 5mp doesn't matter, it's the lense. From the international version of Nexus Prime, the camera sux. This is a deal breaker for me because I take an average of 100-200 pics every month (like they say, the best camera is the one you have with you when you need it). UNLESS the Nexus Prime coming to Sprint I would guess around jan or February improve the quality of camera, I decided based on that.
Today's winner is E4GT. Tomorrow's winner is pending for me. If only I knew the improved Nexus Prime would be coming to Sprint, only then 100% Prime. Or if camera Quality is not important to you, 100% wait and get Prime...
IMHO

Galaxy Nexus or Evo LTE?

Hey XDA folks,
So now that we know that the Evo LTE is coming... are you guys making the switch to HTC or staying with Sammy on the Galaxy Nexus or the next SGS3?
I myself find myself leaning more towards the Galaxy Nexus but it HAS to be LTE, if not I am going with the Evo.
The Galaxy Nexus is an LTE phone, if that is what is the only thing that is making you indecisive.

To be honest, I've had HTC phones, and while they do work, they always have rather bad battery life.
EVO's got it's huge development team behind it (you wont be without something to flash) and it's going to be better as far as LTE connection due to it's ability to connect to the 800(900?) mhz band of Sprint's LTE.
The Gnex is probably going to be better with battery performance, despite it's battery size being only 1850, as compared to it's 2000 mAh competitor (EVO LTE). But since it's AOSP, it's not going to have a battery drain skin such as sense running.
The other thing to consider is that the gNex has been out for awhile, and we're late getting it. In 6-7 months from now, the next Nexus will be announced and we'll be stuck with our phones for 2 years (unless you've some way to get new phones for affordable prices).
I prefer stability over performance and such. I think the gNex screen is much better because it's Amoled, so I'd choose the gNex.
hope these helps you decide...

Well said!
As for waiting another 6-7 months for the next gen Nexus... it'll be longer. Simply put Sprint has never received first dibs on the nexus device. I say it'll be At&t who gets the next one first although I would love for all 4 carriers to get it at the same time.
As for being stuck for 2 years with the same phone..nah I dont beleieve in that, I always find a way to get the newest without paying full price ( Craigslist) or I just sell my phone and use that money towards a used but like new phone on there as well. Thats not the issue with me LoL.
I also am leaning towards the Nexus now simply because you made a great point, the fact that sense is still running will use more battery.
I'm going to jump ship to the Evo LTE simply because I'm an Evo fanboy. Love HTC sense. Only reason I got this phone is because of the bigger screen but now that they finally gave the Evo a bigger screen I'm going back.

See I'm not so sure I'm not a fan of the 16:9 screen ratio on phones. The evo 4g lte looks like the screen was stretched vertically and looks really narrow. Is 16:9 going to be the new standard? I love the width of my et4g and hope the gs3 is similar

UPDATE I just came back from the Verizon store ... I went to just see the Galaxy Nexus in person... and I was not impressed. It feels too much like my ET4G, and not that thats a bad thing. I am just ready for a change! I though maybe I would love it in person but I left there feeling my ET4G was a BETTER phone.
Come May 26th Hello Evo LTE!!
Neither, by the time Sprint LTE is a real working network there will be better options. I will probably be due for my upgrade by then. Also the Nexus isn't really an upgrade from S2 just a variation.
I'm not sure about that phonearena writeup...
Both Phil Nickinson and Myriam Joire are head over heels for the One X. They claim that the screen is nicer (by a landslide), the camera blows the Nexus one away (Not much of a stretch, my Epic Touch camera blows the Nexus camera away), and that Sense is very light and very nice.
Of course, there's the battery... that's the only thing holding me back from a full on geekgasm at this point over the HTC.
I'm going to wait until I can look at both of them side by side and make my own decision.

I think thats why I am going with th Evo
Android Central recently had an article about the HTC One X's battery life. While I know there are differences between both the One X and the EVO LTE, I believe it would be a good reference point. Although the One X doesn't have the LTE support yet in the states, those screen shots of the battery lasting 17+hours with as much as 22% left to go, has to get you a little bit excited. Especially because the One X has a smaller battery compared to the EVO LTE. Granted, whenever the LTE network is up and running in your area with you running it on the phone, the life will obviously go down. But still, I'm pretty excited about the possibilities.

Very good point. I loved the screen size on my evo 4g but the screen on the evo 3d was a downgrade ratio wise. The screen was sharper but I often made spelling errors because of the screen being more narrow. I'm hoping the bigger size makes up for that on the evo lte. I think it really comes down to what you like best. Stock ics and the latest os or sense and the great hardware. I go in to the evo lte knowing that I'm not going to get constant os updates but I'm OK with that because of the huge dev team behind the evo.

I hope so too! The first Evo got HUGE dev support compared to the Evo 3D, but then again this Evo One should outsell the 3D, not sure if it will beat the Original Evo.
I HATE Sense. But, Id still get the 4G LTE due to its MUCH better hardware. It'll just suck waiting on AOSP to hit the EVO, but it'll be worth it 2 years down the line.
The battery life arguement is invalid. You own a nexus. The updates are invalid. Google clearly hasn't cared about it like they used to.
I the nexus good...yes. absolutely. It will always be a fantastic phone. But the Evo lte will also be a great phone. The battery life can't get /be worse than a nexus...and if it releases w 4.0.3 or 4.0.4 of can't be worse on updates. Cdma nexus has had...1? Not hating. Just pointing out pure facts. The nexus is a great pure aosp phone. But there are also other great phones to consider if you are being locked into contracts

Thats because it is... Galaxy Nexus performance leaves something to be desired coming from this beastly exynos powered phone. I do love a lot of the features the Nexus has to offer though...

Getting t3h wife a new phone

Guys/Galls,
I am currently using a Epic Touch 4G with AOKP on it and I am very happy with it. My wife will change phones this month and I've been told by a couple of people that it would be better to get a nexus than the Epic 4G touch.
I did my research and it seems that the hardware is the same, except that the nexus has a lower resolution camera and no SD. it also seems that the battery life of the nexus doesn't compare to the epic 4g touch.
On the there hand, it seems that sprint is slashing the price of the epic 4g touch, I don't know if this means end of life for this device or what, I just don't want to renew a 2 years contract with a device that is near its live cycle. I am planning to leave her phone without hacking it so the OS will also make the difference.
Any recommendations?
Well, if you aren't going to root and ROM the phone, then go with the nexus, especially if she'll have the phone for the next two years.
The E4GT is better, hardware wise, but will stop getting officially upgraded, most likely, after ICS. It may see Jelly Bean, but I wouldn't bank on that.
The Galaxy Nexus probably will get Jelly Bean so it's your better long term option, unless you do decide to root and ROM.
Sent while hanging with that really hoopy frood Ford Prefect.
+1 on the galaxy nexus. It will get better software support and our camera isn't that much better. Also some may disagree but I personally like the galaxy nexus display over the epic 4g touch. But that being said the e4gt is a good phone too!
No desire to wait a month or two for the galaxy siii?

Personally I would check and see if your area is ln the rollout plan for lte... since I live in a wimax area ill stick to those devices since who knows when I'm getting lte or even the vision upgrade

The thing is that there is no word on when is coming out, Sprint already got the new HTC so I don't know if they want to rush in to getting the SIII.
Personally I think it is a good idea to wait for the SIII but her phone (Evo 4G) is failing badly.

Another option is to just pick up something like an evo 3d for 150 off Craigslist or something to hold her over until the sgs3 comes along. That way you retain your upgrade and she still gets a much better phone at the same time. Speaking from personal experience the battery life is much better on a 3d than it is on an epic or evo 4g.
Just my two cents... I was never all that impressed with the galaxy nexus. A lot of hype for mediocre hardware.

Stay with the Epic Touch. Galaxy Nexus would be a big downgrade.
Evo LTE is CURRENTLY a downgrade because the sense4 software is abysmal.
Yes, we both come from Evos 4G (supersonic) and I will never go back to HTC as hardware or sense UI.
I know ill get flamed for this but here you go anyways.
Brick or "lose" the Evo 4g file a claim with Asuron and for 100$ deductible they will send you a refurb or new Evo3D, maybe even a GS2.
I would wait for the Galaxy SIII and compare all phones before you get locked in for another 2 years on contract.
I'm sorry but I had the evo 3d and there's no way it has better battery life than the Epic touch.
I think my 'Plan B' will be to re-flash the Evo with stock rom or something other than CM7 while i cross my fingers that it doesn't enter in that infamous boot loop within days.
If everything goes OK, this should buy me time for the SIII

Nexus, in my opinion would be the better phone to get since they have source and no limitations like we do with bricks and reflashing all the garbage. I have been thinking about going back to my Nexus S as that phone is so easy and there is so many roms for it without the risk of bricking it.

The nexus will get updates more often and most likely 5.0. It also has LTE and nfc.. Personally if they had the galaxy nexus when I got this phone I would have gotten it. But it's because it is a pure android phone no skins like touch wiz. With that being said other then not having LTE this phone is awesome and either choice you two will be happy until LTE is in your area

I know that hardware wise the S3 will be superior but lets get back on topic... this phone will not be rooted so all crapware that comes pre-installed from sprint will still be there, running eating space, resources and battery.
Will the S3 still be a better choice for a 2 years contract?

For the gs2 most bloatware was deletable regularly so I'm guessing it will be the same for the gs3
Since you are going to be on a contract you want a phone that is going to be top of the line as long as possible and all 3 of the mentioned phones should be that for at least another 2 years
