First of all you need to install cwm first
Here is the link to the latest cwm http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21424744
And you have to root your phone.
Here is the link on how to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33379688
If you done all that steps download the rom that you want. All the steps is explained by the dev in the 1st page. So navigate to the 1st page of the thread.

So by reading what you mentioned i think you have no root/CWM, right? If yes then you need one.
Root your phone. There is a root/unroot post in the development section.
CWM INSTALLATION
1- make sure you have a windows computer.
2- download the zip file, the ops file and odin.
3- extract all the zip files, open odin, add the ops file and flash the recovery .(Full instructions is a sticky in the general section)
FLASHING THE ROM
1- download the rom and its gapps.
2- copy them to your phone's memory.
3- boot into CWM Recovery mode.
4- go to mounts and storage, format /system /data /cache
5- go back and then choose advanced, wipe dalvik cache and battery stats.
6- back to the main page, choose: install zip from sdcard. Install the ROM then the Gapps.
7- again to advanced and FIX PERMISSIONS.
8- reboot system now
9- ENJOY!
Press The Thanks Button If I Helped

[QUICK AND EASY GUIDE] Go From ANY ROM to CM9

I had a few questions on how to do this. I eventually figured it out and since I didn't see an exact "Guide" on how to do this besides a few posts from the CM9 Discussion thread I decided to post the steps I did here.
Hope this helps somebody!
WARNING: FOLLOWING THIS GUIDE WILL CAUSE YOU TO LOSE YOUR DATA (SDCARD will be fine though).
These are the exact steps I did.
1- Auto Restore Using ODIN via sfhub's TAR file to EL29; here (I used the SPH-D710.EL29_CL852097_ROOTED-oc-sfx.exe)
2- To install CWM, I used the Auto Root package (Option C) then (Option L); here
3- I then downloaded CM7 and GAPPS here and placed them on my microSD card
4- Booted into recovery and wiped data/factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, and go back to "Mounts and Storage" and clicked on format /system. I then flashed CM7 and GAPPS (Directions on how to flash here here)
5- Go back to the main menu of recovery and reboot system
6- I verified I was able to boot into CM7 without any issues (Wait until it completely loads and did another reboot).
(Optional) I went back into recovery and made a backup
7- I then downloaded the CM9 zip file and GAPPS file (Download here scroll down for Alpha4 and GApps v7.1) and placed both of these on the microSD card
8-I then booted into recovery and flashed the CM9 zip file, flashed GApps v7.1 file, and wiped data/factory reset; (how to video here)
9- Reboot system
10- Enjoy CM9!
(Optional) You won't have a custom recovery after you flash CM9. If you want a custom recovery, I recommend you use this one here. I flashed it through Mobile ODIN and had no problems. I used the "Rogue Stock FB21 rev2 (Odin Tar)". Read this post if you want to flash through regular Odin here
Thank you very much. I was looking for something just like this
EDIT: Why can't you flash straight to CM9?

Honestly I'm not sure. I've seen several posts of people having issues when trying to go from any of the leaked ICS ROMs to CM9 (Some of them semi-bricking their devices). This is apparently the safest way to do it.

You can but you keep hearing people saying "iz brickz my fone" all the time because they tried to install CM9 with a kernal or rom that doesnt play very nice. So this is in a way the safest way to do it if you dont want to have any trouble. Ive been doing it like this since thats what someone posted on the cm9 thread when it first came out.
Edit: lo0l you beat me to the reply
Sounds good. Doesn't CM9 come with a kernel though?
If not, which kernel do you recommend using with CM9?

At the moment thats the only kernal you can use with it. no other AOSP kernal out there that is available to download. Atleast this is from what i understand. First time rooting phones after i got this phone. Still getting the hang of all this.

You can always redo step 1 and 2 and it will remove it. Then just restore your last backup of the El29 rom not CM9 lol
You can always just use this on ics

I was on the leaked ICS ROM and want to go back to a different ROM. My phone is kinda soft bricked now. I downloaded the EL29 auto restore and it's running now but it's stuck at the last percentage (data.img) part.
It's been sitting here for 30+ minutes and last night I let it sit for about 1.5 hours.
My phone won't boot up but I can get into download mode but it won't auto restore to the EL29. I don't know what I'm missing. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

How to root and install custom rom?

I'm a beginner, i recently asked how to install the ics leak, apparently it's seem easy, one click but i was advise to root and install cwm...
so what exactly is CWM?
can anyone give me the following guides? with the most dumbed down instruction? (like button to press, where to activate things etc.)
How to root lg android?
brief explanation of what is cwm
how to install custom rom?
- while you explain, can you explain the concept of the phone? like recovery mode does this, debugging does that.
I used to be a iphone pro, but android, i'm a noob xD .
To root, download superoneclick v2.3.2 on your computer. NOT 2.3.3 as it doesn't work. Launch it and click root. If it doesn't work the first time, keep trying. It'll work eventually. Clockwork mod is a recovery mode. In your android You download rom manager in the play store, then click on it. Click flash clockwork mod recovery inside the app. It'll give u a list of devices. Select att nitro HD. Then download ho!no!s cwm flash able leak, (its in the android development section. Download that and go back to rom manager. REMEMBER YOU DO ALL THIS IN YOUR ANDROID XCEPT FOR ROOTING WITH SUPERONECLICK. Click reboot into recovery. Click on backup and restore. Click backup in that. Wait till its done. Then go back to the main menu in cwm. Click wipe data/factory reset. Then click yes. Then when its done go and click advanced. Click wipe dalvik cache. Click yes. Then press the back button. Then go to install zip from sdcard. Click choose zip from sdcard. Then click Download.locate the zip you downloaded earlier, it should be in there. Click yes. When its done, go back to the main menu and click reboot system now. Voila, you're done. Phew this took a while.

Make sure you know where your .zip file is downloaded. You'll need to know where to find it while you're in CWM looking to "install .zip from SD card".
I'm still a noob as well. I've only flashed one rom so far, but I hope I've steered you in the right direction. My suggestions are what worked for me with my rom so you should be fine. If anyone sees errors in my advice please post so that we will all know.

Well I don't know if it's called "flashing" for CWM. It's more installing CWM with the ROM Manager app. Then once you've backed up your stock setup you can "flash" whichever rom zip you want to use.
I'm using CM9 RC1 because it had reviews of it being stable with everything working. I'm so new to this that I am hesitant to try all of the other roms that have bugs. I'll try one eventually though.
Hopefully you get a custom rom running today. :good:

SuperOneClick has been known to take several attempts to complete. From everything I've read just keep trying. Some guys have had to try 20 to 30 times to get it done successfully. It sounds like a pain, but it's worth it.
So super one click may still work with the updated NITRO?

Yes, follow the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671050
You only have to do this once for each computer you want to use USB mass storage on. It still sucks if you want to use it for USB mass storage on other computers, but if you only use it on one or two computers it's fine.

[Q] Some questions to make it clear

Ofc i know that jelly bean is newer than ICS but maybe it is bugged or smth. And is there any bugs on ICS for desire? Is it the right choice to make my desire of newer android version?
Thanks for answers.

To install jellybean first find a ROM that you like in the dev forum. The ROM in my sig is nice.

Now it seems much easier of your explain, thanks. But first i need to root it and i think that i need use revolutionary and still try to understand how. U know, for me, newbie, when its written pretty hard its confusing to make something bad and to break my phone.
And is this rom the right choice? -->>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1945441
yes, you need to root your phone and install a recovery first. Revolutionary also gives you s-off which is good
Basically this is what you have to do:
-install drivers for your pc
-connect your phone and run revolutionary
-revolutionary will s-off your phone and install i custom recovery (i think cwm)
-download and copy the root.zip file onto your sd card
-boot your phone into recovery and flash the root.zip
-after all of that your phone will be s-off, rooted, and have a custom recovery
For all the downloads and more info look here:
http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/revolutionary
Once that is done successfully you can then flash a rom.
The rom you linked is good, but after trying all of vijendrahs jellybean roms i found this one to be the best:

All the rooting/s-off/recovery stuff went well? Just wondering, did revolutionary install clockwordmod?
As for your gapps question, it doesnt matter.
The only difference is that if you choose a rom without gapps included, you will have to flash them seperately...not really that big of an issue though.
Heres how to install this rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2070704):
-download the rom and gapps package from the thread and put them on your sd card
-reboot into recovery
-make a backup
-click wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
-advanced>wipe dalvik
-choose zip from sdcard
-choose the rom zip and flash it
-choose zip from sdcard again
-choose the gapps zip and flash it
All rooting/s-off and etc went well, now after all wipes im installing the rom and im little bit praying too

This is basic Android fundamentals and as others stated this is generally in the OP for the ROMs you are flashing.

Flashing Lollipop Roms (XPERIA S)

You Must have UNLOCKED your BOOTLOADER FIRST To Upgrade.STEP 1
Root your mobile.I have tested Kingo root software(PC) and rooted successfully
STEP 2
Before unlocking BootLoadr , Take TA partition backup. Search on Google what is TA partition how to backup or Go here.
STEP 3
Install recovery (If already installed then move to Step 4) .
STEP 4
Now you need a compatible recovery to flash lollipop rom.Download Flashable zip with TWRP .
This has mickybarts Naosp b26's boot.img(Kernel) and Twrp recovery which can flash Lollipop roms without any problem.
FLASHING LOLLIPOP ROM
Download the ROM and gapps use pico gapps as its small in size.Download Supersu.zip.then copy these to SD card.
Now you have 4 FILES must be copied to SD card.you can make a folder and place all files on that.
1. flashable Zip with twrp
2. ROM.zip
3.gapps
4.SuperSU.zip.
Now the flashing steps.
1. Enter to recovery (cwm) and take back up(important).
2. now install the flashable Zip with twrp and reboot to recovery.
3. now you are on twrp recovery
Then in TWRP goto Wipe----then choose Advance wipe---then select (4 things) 1.Dalvik cache,2.System,3.cache,4.Data and swipe to wipe (Important::Make sure Sd card is not selected....Otherwise you will lose all saved files in sd card).
4. Now go back to main menu of TWRP and Goto Mount menu...and Deselect (3 things) 1.System, 2.Cache, 3.Data..(Leave the Internal Sdcard selected or ticked)
5. Now go back to Main menu and click Install. Then Select the Rom.Zip you want to Flash.
6. Wipe Cache Dalvik Cache
7. Now again Goto Install menu and Select Gapps package to Flash
8. Wipe Cache Dalvik Cache
9. Select Supersu.zip to Flash
10. Wipe Cache Dalvik Cache and Reboot to system.. DONE
Tried your flashing tutorial and it woked so well, didn't faced any bootloop problems and the steps are clear enough for newbie like me. Great job bro! It would help a lot of people mostly the first timers in flashing custom roms... Keep it up!
