So I am a college student and I installed my school's profile for wifi so I automatically connect and now I have to have some kind of encryption be it pattern or pin on my phone. Will rooting fix this?

If you're talking about Microsoft Exchange and the requirement for a lockscreen PIN, there is a way around that. I've never heard of a required lockscreen for WiFi logon.
If you added a Microsoft Exchange account for your email, this is likely what caused the required lock screen. A way around this is do buy/download Enhanced Email. I'm not in anyway associated with this app or dev, but it's the only one I've found that works for this. Delete the previous Exchange account you added then add it through Enhanced Email. Whoaloa! No lockscreen requirement and your school email will still push to the phone.
Hope that helps

Check Settings/Security/Phone Administrators and see if they installed an app to manage your phone. If there is one, and it is checked, just uncheck it. Although this may violate your network agreement with the school. Read the fine print.

Generally, this is bad advice, although it may be different for student accounts. In a lot of organizations, their email would be suspended and they would likely be terminated. To be fair, so would my suggestion above. YMMV.

So far I've had no issues. The app satisfies the Exchange requirements at the app level instead of the phone level. I couldn't stand typing in a 6 digit unlock code every time I unlock the screen when only 20% of the time it is for our "secure" email. To each their own, I guess, but I've had no repercussions or account issues thus far.

Probably for the same reason that if you send an email through Gmail from a non Gmail account, you will see Gmail as the origin, even though its from an address like [email protected]. I have no idea to be honest, but it doesn't completely surprise me. You might want to see if it happens when using the built in client.
Thanks for your response. I would expect gmail as origin, when I send from gmail via smtp, but I never sent anything from android.com.actually I used yahoo. That's what puzzled me. Any other ideas?

What is K-9? Why does the Identity make a difference?
K-9 Mail. The Identity has alternate From: email addresses.
I am using Enhanced email, sorry I should have clarified.
Why does K-9 make a difference? I have no problem installing and testing, but want to have my ducks in a row 1st

Just to clarify. This is what I see in emails sent on Android/K9
Code:
Message-ID: <[email protected]>
No idea where and why this comes from?
I can also see
Code:
User-Agent: K-9 Mail for Android
but where that comes from is known of course
Ok, you are talking about the message header. AFAIK, you cannot control that. It's a function of the path the email takes from source to destination.

It's OK I've sorted it!!
To fix this issue...
Make sure everything is updated to the latest version including Facebook App (I say that because mine is and it's now fixed)
Open the Facebook app and, via Account -> Log Out
Lock your phone
Swipe the Facebook ticker and you should get the message "You need to be logged in to use this" or something like that
Click log in and allow the Samsung Galaxy app the permissions it requires
Should be fixed!
Please not I'm not a developer, this is my first android phone and I've had it for two days, so I won't be able to answer any technical questions however I figured it would be a Facebook permissions problem and using a bit of trial and error and a bit of common sense I've fixed MY issue. This might not work for YOUR issue.
I hope so though

Good, I would imagine it would work for most people. At least I hope it would.
i'm having a problem with nightly 5-28 ( not sure if it affects others or other roms) setting up google wallet. i can download the app from the market, open it and go through setup but as soon as it says it's setting up for card purchases it fails. it gives a message "device setup failed". i checked to see if the secure element is broken and in the controller applet version it says 2.0. i checked my galaxy nexus and my nexus 7 and both are at 1.6. i'm not sure if this makes a difference but something obviously isn't working. i have contacted google wallet and sent them logs of the problem but i haven't heard back from them yet.
i have tried the xposed trick, i have modified the build.prop, i have cleared/ reset the wallet app. i'm at a loss here. anyone have any ideas or info?

if you had wallet working in a different rom did you reset it BEFORE you installed the new rom? if you didn't it might have blocked the secure element. even though it isn't broken it's unusable. I had the same problem. it took a long time (like a month or 2) and like 4 ROM swaps later it started working magically out of the blue... I have no idea how it happened but if this is your problem you might just have to wait
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda app-developers app
I got it working... by doing what Google Support told me to do.
I got the same issue. Tried installing the hacked version a long time ago, failed at that, and then left it alone for a few months. Started trying again the last month or so, can't get it working, trying everything - reset/re-install, new account, old ROM... Finally just called Google Wallet support, and the lady told me they get this all the time. The tech could see that an ID associated with my NFC was incorrect and that the issue needed to be elevated to higher tech levels. She also told me that you just have to keep restarting the phone and retrying the setup. Finally, today, at work, I tried again, and as soon as the app opened, a warning popped up saying that info had been changed and that the app needed to be reset. I reset the app as prompted, and then redid the entire setup, and now I have a properly working wallet.
So, call Google Wallet support, tell them what's up, and then keep trying Wallet setup and restarting the phone every day. It'll eventually sort itself out.
---------- Post added at 03:37 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:31 AM ----------
Also, the Note 2 does NOT have a secure element chip like the S3 (the NFC chips are different), which is why Google Wallet wasn't available for the Note 2 until the Cloud storage for Google Wallet started. So, if you forget to reset your Google Wallet app before you switch ROMs, you won't brick your Google Wallet abilities, but you will create headaches for yourself.
Sorry to burst your bubble but the note 2 most certainly has a secured element chip.

The Note 2 has a NXP PN544 NFC chip, which does not have an embedded secure element. The Galaxy S3 has a NXP PN65 NFC chip, which does have the secure element.

Well what do toy know..... I just opened my wallet app and it said something like "payments have been disabled on this device you must reset the app". I hit OK, it reset and then closed the app. I opened it back up and it went right into setup and it worked. No idea what happened.

We wanted to respond to the post on the Full Disclosure mailing list (link) regarding a vulnerability on XDA.
We can confirm that an admin account was compromised on the Portal portion of our site (also known as the blog or front page), however, no user accounts in the forums were compromised. XDA exists on two separate systems that live in two separate server environments and no user data is stored on the Portal servers where the issue happened.
At this point it appears that an admin account was compromised and used to gain access to the backend code on the WordPress site. We have patched this exploit and are continuing to review our code and policies to prevent this type of thing from happening again. We take security very seriously.
As a safety precaution, we've asked all Portal editors to change their password. Again we have no concern or evidence that XDA's user accounts were in any way compromised.
Our thanks to Steffen for reporting this. His attempts to contact us via other channels were unsuccessful mainly because we receive many emails on a daily basis about various topics, including people falsely claiming that our site is hacked. If anyone has information regarding a vulnerability, they can use the technical contact form on our site with details, or email me directly at security + at + xda-developers.com. When reporting a security vulnerability, make sure to include specific details so that we know that it is a real issue.
To follow up on what bitpushr said above, we've decided to create a dedicated page on the site where people from the community can report security vulnerabilities and understand our disclosure policy. Look for that in the coming days. In the mean time, feel free to use his email if you want to directly reach him and our team.
Thank you
Thank you for informing everyone about the incident and for taking user security serious.
Portal is hacked again.

I tried it with my girlfriend, at home on our wifi network and it still paused due to a slow connection. Pretty sure 75 down/ 25 up should be good enough for this with nothing else hooked up to the network.

Makes sense. But you dont have to download facetime from the app store. Its like 1 person out of 10 has this installed and theres no use of it when u have it and u try to video call ur friend or mom who has no idea what google duo is.
Now if they include that in Nougat, then its a different story.

To me this is a negative, not a positive. It's the reason I don't use whatsapp. I flip sims whenever I travel so I want something that's got an account login, not registered to your number. I use hangouts as my main application. The only thing it doesn't have that I really wish it had was Push to Talk like whatsapp does.
Im really digging this Duo app. My girl and i have been using it quite frequently without issue. That was the only thing i liked about Apple phones and now we have our own version. While i understand not having everyone on board with it but for a small circle of people it's great.

IMO it's better than these. With a low data connection where I tested it it was great.
