i'm having a problem with nightly 5-28 ( not sure if it affects others or other roms) setting up google wallet. i can download the app from the market, open it and go through setup but as soon as it says it's setting up for card purchases it fails. it gives a message "device setup failed". i checked to see if the secure element is broken and in the controller applet version it says 2.0. i checked my galaxy nexus and my nexus 7 and both are at 1.6. i'm not sure if this makes a difference but something obviously isn't working. i have contacted google wallet and sent them logs of the problem but i haven't heard back from them yet.
i have tried the xposed trick, i have modified the build.prop, i have cleared/ reset the wallet app. i'm at a loss here. anyone have any ideas or info?

if you had wallet working in a different rom did you reset it BEFORE you installed the new rom? if you didn't it might have blocked the secure element. even though it isn't broken it's unusable. I had the same problem. it took a long time (like a month or 2) and like 4 ROM swaps later it started working magically out of the blue... I have no idea how it happened but if this is your problem you might just have to wait

I got it working... by doing what Google Support told me to do.
I got the same issue. Tried installing the hacked version a long time ago, failed at that, and then left it alone for a few months. Started trying again the last month or so, can't get it working, trying everything - reset/re-install, new account, old ROM... Finally just called Google Wallet support, and the lady told me they get this all the time. The tech could see that an ID associated with my NFC was incorrect and that the issue needed to be elevated to higher tech levels. She also told me that you just have to keep restarting the phone and retrying the setup. Finally, today, at work, I tried again, and as soon as the app opened, a warning popped up saying that info had been changed and that the app needed to be reset. I reset the app as prompted, and then redid the entire setup, and now I have a properly working wallet.
So, call Google Wallet support, tell them what's up, and then keep trying Wallet setup and restarting the phone every day. It'll eventually sort itself out.

Also, the Note 2 does NOT have a secure element chip like the S3 (the NFC chips are different), which is why Google Wallet wasn't available for the Note 2 until the Cloud storage for Google Wallet started. So, if you forget to reset your Google Wallet app before you switch ROMs, you won't brick your Google Wallet abilities, but you will create headaches for yourself.
Sorry to burst your bubble but the note 2 most certainly has a secured element chip.

The Note 2 has a NXP PN544 NFC chip, which does not have an embedded secure element. The Galaxy S3 has a NXP PN65 NFC chip, which does have the secure element.

Well what do toy know..... I just opened my wallet app and it said something like "payments have been disabled on this device you must reset the app". I hit OK, it reset and then closed the app. I opened it back up and it went right into setup and it worked. No idea what happened.

The S-Voice apk was just posted in the S3 area http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26293573&posted=1#post26293573
I've installed it on my GNEX and it installed fine, made it through the tutorial as well, but it crashed when I tried to change the wake up phrase. Anyone care to give it a shot at making it work? I was going to start with something simple like editing build.prop but I can't seem to find any info on what the S3 is listed as.
It's now working perfectly!! Nex7er in the Note forum discovered if you install the app from system/app it works perfectly and I can confirm it runs perfect on the nexus!!!

I installed on latest CM9 nightly, no issues here. I installed it normally without being in system folder.
Edit:
Seems too clunky and pointless/useless. I can do all those commands by tapping the screen manually and I'll know they are correct rather than relying on a sketchy voice to text algorithm.

To each his own I guess. As a guy with only one arm I can state for me, it is MUCH easier and faster to say "new dental appointment, June 5th at 9am and then confirm with yes then it is to:
open apps, select calendar, click the month view tab, flip to June, click on the 5th, select "new" on the 9am tab and then type out dental, etc...
Running bamf/jamesbond and get a force close on it
Cleared data on it and reloaded... Skipped trying to set a new wakeup and it will go through to asking me "which app do you want to open "
Unfortunately no matter what I say she comes back with that same line.
Of course, restarted again and didn't bother to wake her up... And now commands work.
Tried and seems to work pretty good

Probably it's searching for SGS3 alarm app
Can confirm that adding appointments and checking weather work though.
Timer will work as far as countdown, but doesn't seem to hook into any vibrate/ring function to notify you when it finishes.
It took me a few tries, and I only got it to install by skipping the setup part of it. The apk claimed I already had s voice installed. And, when I went to remove it, because it crashed despite installing it from system/app, it only gave me the option to remove updates. I'm running stock ROM and kernel. Unfortunately, I don't see how to get to settings for it, so I'm stuck calling it "Hi Galaxy!"
Here is a copy of the APK if anyone wants it
Been using it for quite some time, actually. It's been called into Axiom roms for awhile now.

If the alarm worked - it'd be fastest to set alarm that way.
Also, the timer would be nice if it actually did something when the countdown finished.
Little things like that I could see it handy for... plus for answers you'd look up on google, could be quicker to answer at times.

After some digging I found that with the Galaxy Nexus at 4.0.4 is having issues because its based off of 4.0.3 Workaround is to install the app under system/apps instead of regular installer. I used root explorer and had R/W enabled placed the file and opened/installed from their.
So the new Google Wallet just came out, with support for any credit card! I so would love to use it, but AT&T has it blocked!.
I was able to install the CM9 hacked version, but was never able to use it for some reason, it would not let me add a gift card.
Anywho, the new version came out,and I would like to get some attempt to get it to work.
Any ideas? links, hacks? I loath AT&T. I own the phone (bought outright). I think I should be able to get it to work!

I found this: http://www.google.com/wallet/where-it-works.html Thats for Google Wallet. But what should I look for when it comes to any NFC device since we can now use any credit/debit card?
Also, if I get Wallet on my S3, is it difficult to change ROMs? Do I have to stay on the ROM I started it with? If so, thats crazy annoying.

ugg.. what a pita!
Still gotta DL the WHOLE app (eg. a 1GB game update) instead of just the new/replaced files that Google announced will be launched with the JB release.
Smart Update: http://www.theverge.com/2012/8/17/3248874/google-play-store-smart-updates-enabled
Anyone know what going on with that?
I don't know the technical details of the technology, but from what I read about it I assume it only works for changes in the APK. Games often contain a lot of graphic data, which probably renders this technique kinda useless

I'm pretty sure they are already enabled but they still show as if you are downloading the entire file. So there is no way to know when they are put to use and how big the apk diff files are.
Busybox free uses it..and facebook 1.9.9 update too...
With the last updates it was finished within seconds..the download....
Interesting. So how does Google select which apps start using it? Or is it some kinda automated update adding apps to its list for Smart Update support?

I'm pretty sure that isn't the case. Google automatically enables smart app updates for all (I presume) apps. This was said at the I/O conference that developers didn't need to do anything and personally I haven't seen any new API calls nor manifest lines that I need to add.

FWIW, I updated Dead Trigger the other day and it only downloaded around 500k of updated data... so, yea, it does work for games as well.
Again, it depends on the APK and the changes involved.
Something I noticed the other day: the progress bar on the Play Store was slow, and would cut off somewhere in the middle just before updating. If you want to see the real update progress, look in the notification shade.

I know. This question was asked a couple of weeks ago. I see that it working more often these day, so I guess a MOD can lock this up to prevent more replies. Th for the earlier info guy! :good:
I can't believe I am actually asking this as a question. But I was neither capable to remove some 3rd party lockscreen from my gf's entirely stock SGN (rom-wise), nor did I manage to google for help.
Tried Go Locker and LockBot. I can choose a different Lockscreen but this new fella is now before the one I try to get rid off. So we actually have 2 lockscreens now. The 2nd one is easy to switch back off but the one below stays right where it is.
Here's what it looks like:

Also, you can set the phone to lock pattern. Works fine except for the lockscreen that again succeeds all other lockscreens. It's always the last barrier before you can use the phone.
Please be so kind and let me know where else to look for turning it off
The lock screen app your using, need to be deactivated... if that cannot happen, go to settings----applications---find that app----open it-----and press clear defaults-----bang problem solved

Thanks for the reply. My girlfriend says she never installed a lock screen app (intentionally). I was suspecting the range of Go products but uninstalling most of them (after going through all of their settings) didn't help either.
The question is what app might have caused it. And why isn't there an app that lets you default to stock? That's why I installes Go Locker and LockBot in the first place.
Actually this is quite a tragic flaw in Android. My gf totally diggs her shiny new SGN but is totally pissed by this lock screen. She never wanted it. She hates it. Now she starts hating the phone. She said she wanted a replacement...

If you check the google wallet page, You can see what devices are compatible with Tap & Pay
https://support.google.com/wallet/answer/1347934?hl=en
So far, it only shows the 2012 Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 as working tablets.
Given that Host Card Emulation is one of the new features in 4.4, and that the Nexus 7 (2013) carries the same NFC controller as the Nexus 5 (the BCM20793M), it seems likely that Google hard-coded the device out of Wallet and an update of the app will probably bring tap-to-pay.

I saw that too, but until they update the compatibility list and throw the switch on the 2013 Nexus 7, its not going to work. I mean, I could run 4.4 on my Note 2 and try and get it, but it probably won't work without being officially supported.
EDIT: just to say a couple more things. I almost knew for certain this would happen. Now that google is going to more software based way of handling these tap and pay features, I knew they would start setting up a Velvet Rope situation where only certain devices will be allowed to activate the feature. if any phone out there had this, Google might somehow lose control of payments. Needing to make sure the phone matches the username and with the history the app had of being able to make pretty much any phone look like a Galaxy Nexus just by editing the build.prop file, its probably going to be even worse getting certain phones/tablets activated.

Makes sense! I agree they had to do something to patch the "Nexus trick" and this seems like this is it.
The Nexus 7 (2013) is actually missing hardware - the ”secure element ”. I would be surprised if Google ever supports Wallet on this device. You can't make up for missing hardware with a patch.

Incorrect. That's what host card emulation is for. The Nexus 5 does not have a secure element, it is able to emulate it via software. Secure element is not required to get official support.
What you are saying is very true Pre-KitKat days, KitKat changes the game.
I currently have tap and pay enabled in wallet cm11 build 11/11/13. I haven't gotten it to work at a terminal yet though. If you check the compatability list you'll see that it says all devices running 4.4 and up with NFC are compatible.
