external SD card doesn't work - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I was on CM10 for the longest time but i got tired of the issues so i went back to touchwiz. I clean installed Wicked Sensations (jellybean) and it told me my SD card was dead, so I did a LLF. Now on any TW ROM it says it is blank and I need to format it, so with the phone I tell it to format it, but it doesn't, it says it does but it never does. Now I'm back on CM10 and it can't mount it! I need help!!! What should I do?
EDIT: After putting in my old 16GB SD card on CM10 my 32GB one works! But only the 32GB and only on CM 10.0.0 (stable) meaning no nightly( already tried) and no touchwiz

No one has any idea what to do about this???

Well stick the SD card in a regular PC or Mac and try to format it, and see what happens..

[Q] Rooted HTC Desire stuck at the white HTC logo screen

Tried to flash it to Pinky, but the device never managed to boot up, just stays on the white logoscreen. Waited as long as 15 minutes.
Wiped everything, installed the ROM several times, no success.
Searched on the forums, didn't find anything useful.
Now what?
Have you tried another ROM or downloading it again to make sure its not corrupt?

Yes, I tried Leedroid and djdroid. The Leedroid image I'm using is the very same that previously worked, so the image should be ok.
I had this,
it was my sd card.
I brought a new 8gb one, which worked on nextsense rom but no other roms at all,
i replaced it with my 4gb one i got with and its been fine since.

Yeah, indeed. I was using a 16GB class 2 card, and when I switched back to the stock 4GB one, I got it booted up again.
Was your 8GB card partitioned with an EXT? Or was it just plain FAT32?

[Q] Weird SD Card Issue After Flashing a 4.2 rom..

So I went ahead and rooted my GS3 and put the CWM Touch recovery on it from the toolkit in the dev. section. I went and installed Jellybro 10.1 and everything was a mess after that. I should also mention that I properly wiped everything and installed the proper 4.2 gapps before starting it up. Everything seemed to work fine, until I noticed that the phone didn't notice my 64 gig SD card anymore, it said it was broken or something and continually asked me to check it. In fact, when I was in recovery, it would even say that there was an issue with the SD card. I decided to use ODIN to try and reinstall stock Jelly Bean from AT&T and after successfuly doing that, everything worked just fine. What's the deal?

If you have another microSD in a smaller flavor, try that out.. Also try using TWRP 2.3.3.1 when running a 4.2 ROM. Handles 4.2 file system better than CWR.
I'm having an issue with my external SD. I made a backup using the latest version of TWRP running AOKP 4.2.1 and now my external SD card is unreadable on both my phone and computer. Even when I take it out and and directly attach the SD card to my usb it cannot be read. I'm not quite sure what is going on, I can't even format it.
I just tried ODIN but that didn't work.
It looks like this is an issue with straight up using CWM. I tried again without a 4.2 rom and it said my sd card couldn't be read. lame!
If you sifted through the pages and pages of comments, most people said TWRP was a bad idea to use on 10.1 and to use CWM. Also, on many pages it says NOT to use anything higher than a 32GB SD card.
Been running multiple 4.2 ROMS and even the one you were on and had zero problems. You have to take time and read about 90% of the comments and the search function in the thread of the ROM is your best friend.

[Q] Which Kernal for darthstalker that can 64gb sd

Im looking for a Kernal that can read 64gb card on darthstalker rom?
Stock kernel that comes with it will support 64gb. Most if not all TWiz ROMs and kernels will support a 64gb. It is the AOSP ROMs that are particular about it and the kernel match ups. Mine worked on Darth just fine from day one, but I've moved on since then.

Same Issue
I too was looking for a way to get Darth Stalker V3 to read my 64GB External MicroSD. I have used a couple of applications and they all show around 12GB, though I may be reading it wrong.
It was also be nice to have it read my ext-sdcard as my internal so that I can install more apps, etc. I know there are workarounds and custom kernels out there, but a lot of the workarounds seem a bit intensive, and as I am a noob at all of this, I really just don't want to brick my phone...almost did that installing LiquidSmooth ROM...it was a no bueno day. Thankfully I flashed back to stock and then re-rooted and saved myself lots of $$$.
Anyways, anyone else having this issue, or figured out a fix?
found a formatter thats called guiformat from ridgecrop. this formatted and i switched to twrp . now everything is working good with faux kernal and it reads my 64gb sd.
Just curious, what's the purpose of external storage?
(I'm assuming your talking about plugging in an external card reader/flash drive to the mhl USB connector?)

Probably has to do with the format your SD card is in. Seems FAT32 or EXFAT can have problems. Im having similar problems right now and am attempting to fix.
Try to find out what your SD card is formatted to and post.

[Q] SD card eating all free RAM

Hello,
I seem to have a problem where my SD card eats all of my RAM. I'm running AOKP JB 4.1.2 Milestone 1 ROM and I have a 32GB G.Skill class 6 SD card on my SGH-T999
I've been running the ROM for some time with this SD card and never had any issues until lately. My phone will get sluggish and eventually get to the point where it has trouble opening anything. I will go to open the dialer and it will force close back to desktop, rendering the phone practically useless. The phone just instantly kills any tasks to keep the system itself alive. If I restart, I have all my free RAM back but I can see it goes down a few MB every few seconds until there is only about 60 left.
I noticed when I remove the SD card, this stops completely. So at first, I tried reflashing said ROM above. As soon as I got back in, it was still doing it. So I reformatted the SD card, and left it blank, and inserted it, and it started this again.
So my question, why is this happening, and how can I fix it? Since it seems to be isolated to the SD card and not the OS, is it possible the SD card is going out? I've only had it for about 6 months and only ever kept music on it.

A media scan running against it?
Did you try fix permissions in recovery?
Update your ROM to a newer aokp build.
Are you restoring data from backups?
Some offending app you have loaded?
I can't be sure so I threw out some things to try.
Try shawn157 aokp builds. Very smooth and compiled for speed with linaro tool chain.

I agree, super smooth and stable ROM, definitely worth trying out.. You should really upgrade to a newer aokp build, there's 4.2.2 now

I've scanned the card for errors, and received none. I have tried fixing permissions as well. I only ever do clean installs, never backups.
Also when I cleaned installed last time trying to figure this issue out, there was no apps installed.
But I will try your suggestion and try said ROM above. I know mine is a little outdated, I've just never bothered to update since I cracked my phone screen some time ago, so I just don't have the love for this phone like I used to. I plan on an S4 soon.
On a side note, Windows has no problem with the SD card, reading or writing. And it's formatted FAT32. I just don't see the connection between the SD card and my RAM. Oh well....thanks for the info, appreciate it.
You can try the other Rom first of course, but if it doesn't help you should Odin flash the root66 firmware. Anytime you have issues you can't resolve, the best way to troubleshoot is from the official build.
It could be there is a corrupted block on the sd that the phone can't handle, but the computer can. Try formatting from the computer using the formatting utility from a sdcard.org.
Another option would be to partition it from the computer. (Try a 28-30GBP partition).
Another thing you can do is show cpu usage in developer options. It may help you see any process that might be getting hung up. Also check under Settings, Battery. (Charge full, then let it run to about 93%) (the media scanner was one thing that used to hang easily and eat resources, so watch for that or similar)
Borrow an sd from someone just to try it. It is very possible that even though it looks sdcard related, it may not be at all. (Stranger things have happened!) If it acts the same with another card, that means the card is not the source of the problem.
