Wifi constantly turns on - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello, I've googled this and searched many forums without much success.
My question: Is there a way to keep my wifi from constantly turning itself on?
I have altered settings in connections optimizer, as well as gone through all my wifi settings and still it turns on.
For some reason the connections optimizer resets itself after I turn it off.
sph-l710 running wicked sensations rom

I had this problem, it's the Sprint Connections optimizer. Go I to mobile networks and turn it off.

He's said he did that already and it wasn't working.
If you flashed a kernel, I'd reflash it, or could have been a bad flash of the rom in general.

If you keep going to the optimizer you are enabling it again. Once you uncheck the box don't go back to it anymore.

Woops, my bad. I guess I should read the whole post.
Someone somewhere said you have to delete it as well. I found it in Titanium Backup an uninstalled it. That's if you're rooted of course.

Awesomeness, thank you! I actually just read a post with the same info, just uninstalled with titanium and so far so good!

Yeah I remember hearing about Sprint coming out with that thing and cringing.....

[Q] sprint connection optimizer APK

I just loaded FC19 (tried CM9, but my phone would randomly not ring when plp called)
Does anyone have the Easysmart.apk file or know how to get it without re flashing FC09 first?
Also, if i just drop it in system/app reboot will it be good to go?
finally is there any reason I should not install it?
Thanks
It just turns on wifi periodically to check if you are in a known network if I understand it correctly. Also sends ciq-like data .
Sent from my Samsung Epic 4G using Tapatalk 2
Do you know if the apk has been posted anywhere?
It will automatically switch you to the best connection whether it be 4G, 3G or wifi and it will map those spots with GPS so it will connect faster next time you are in the same area. It scans for wifi less often so to conserve battery versus normal wifi scanning.

You can pull it out of any FC09 ROM. It is called easysmart.apk and it won't work with other firmware versions without other supporting files. If on FC09 and don't want to use it simply turn it off. Settings>wireless and networks>mobile networks>automatic connections. It is NOT CIQ.

Thanks Kenny,
So i noticed that you said that you must be on FC09, does that meant that easysmart.apk will not work on FC19 without additional work?
I am confused FC19 is a modem not a ROM. Why wouldn't the network app work if you are on a different modem?
I found this in another thread: (cherry picked the relevant parts)
2. Its in system/app in fc09... easysmart.apk
3. Yes push to system/app then reboot and enjoy...
Oops, I flashed FC 19 modem, pushed the FC09 easysmart app, rebooted, and see that the app is not visible in the settings area where it ought to be... bet it has something to do with that lib thing you were talking about...what do you think?
Should I just remove the file? I kind of liked the app, worked good for me....??
iceman19631
You could also try pushing serviceModeApp.apk from FC09 to system/app of FC19. That may help.
Tried it too...the option to "run" the optimizer is no where to be found...sigh...
Yep I'm sure there are some files somewhere that it requires that are missing on fc19..
why not just stick with FC09 modem that is the last offical release there were some problems reported with FC19 that is why it was never released.
done
In order to make it work on FC19 ROM you would need the phone.apk from FC09 ROM at a minimum with thanks to samep for figuring that out.

OPS my bag thought it was just a modem that was leaked didn't realize there was ROM leak too. I should stay up on the dev section but ever since CM7 and 9 I don't bother. They seemed to of cured me of my flashaholic symptoms LOL
Hi,
Is the overall suggestion to use this or leave it disabled?
I finally just switched from CleanGB to ThePeoplesRom so first time getting choice

but most of the time you pick up wifi networks that are secure and you do not have password to.... so does it try to connect to those and waste battery?

No.
It sees them, but won't try to automatically connect to anything that doesn't have a saved password.
I use it and like it, other than not being able to customize it. I'm on Boost and it will switch to 4g (which I don't have) and I lose my data. Would be nice to have the option to "lock out" certain radios completely.
If you stay on top of manually switching between wifi and network data then it may not gain you much battery life (if any). But if you are like me, having it switch automatically so it's one less thing to remember will save you a fair bit of battery life.
can i have the APK?

Wi-Fi Not shutting off and keeping phone awake?

Despite checking off Never, my phone is keeping Wi-Fi active and the phone isn't sleeping. Is there a way to fix this glitch? Also despite having an airave at home, my device shows constantly under the battery setting that i have no mobile signal. This is possibly making the phone search for signal, and explains why it often find a weird roaming signal. Anyone know any fixes?

Yep, what this guy said.
It was bugging me for a while too, not sure if its a feature of 4.1.x Android, but my understanding is if the device senses a Wi-Fi connection it turns on the radio and might ask you to try to configure. At the office, while driving, etc etc.

Ive disabled it countless times... it turns itself back on. There are other tiny little hickups Im having. The first device was flawless until an App Installation went corrupt and ruined it... Now I actually have a minor dud. Gotta try for "third times a charm"...

It is a feature of the OTA Samung update that put your device to LJC .. After you installed the update whether it was Automatic over the air or even manually once you device said Update installation successful then a box was up that you had to hit "Ok" and it was the box that read about the new Sprint Optimization option.
So, if you have the wifi on in the house it still causes a problem? Or is this an issue when you are out and have the wifi off, and it still searches for wifi location no matter what killing the battery?

4g not connecting anymore!

Titles says it all. I live in the baltimore MD area, and where i used to get 3-4 bars of 4g it wont connect to it anymore. I boot it up and it defaults to 3G. Ive tried playing with the mobile data settings and nothing has worked.
Does anyone have any ideas...because i use my phones data connection as home internet right now...
How long has it been happening? It possible the tower is being worked on.

It just started today. Im on CM10 and i would occasionally lose a 4g connection and would have to swtich the mode from lte/whatever/whatever to the other mode...and then back to reconnect..but thats not working anymore....
Edit: This is killing me because I use it for home internet. Im paranoid simply because this is the first month ive used 4G ever...meaning i never even turned lte mode on in the mobile data settings..i didnt even know it was in my area until the beginning of this month.. Im just wondering if me toggling it on and off to get it to connect through CM10 caused this... Thats why im coming here..to smarter people then myself begging and pleaing for assistance and guidance.
Could it perhaps be that sprint was just testing my area for 4g?? OR how long does tower maintenance usually take.. Or that they cut me off from using 4g after using 30gb so far? I mean i have an unlimited plan so it shouldnt be an issue
No they didnt cut you off, they would send a letter before doing that
Second, it usually takes about 2-3 weeks for maintenance to complete on a tower. If you're really concerned, call Sprint and ask if they're in the process of upgrading towers in your area. Who knows, they might even give you some sort of "we're sorry for the inconvenience" credit

Im eyeballing this thread like a hawk for opinions and posts like this. Thanks for your input.
When I first used 4G It was actually by accident on the CM10.1 Nightly. I pressed the Mobile data toggle square in the settings and i saw 4g, I was thrilled that it was in my area. Switched back to stable CM10 and checked if it was up and running. and much to my surprise it wasnt some weird graphical error just showing the 4g icon. It was legit working.
Still isnt working on any rom ive flashed here. Now though since the issue began.
What are the chances in the short time ive used it, that i could have possibly damaged my phones abaility to connect to 4G? Sorry if that question is dumb.
Very little. I doubt that its a hardware issue, because if it were, you would see other things like core apps FCing, the other radios taking longer to connect, maybe even hot reboots when trying to turn on 4G
Like I said, when you have time call Sprint. Most likely the towers are being worked on and they turned it off meanwhile
You might wanna also wanna get Sensorly (from the Play Store) just to doublecheck for LTE in your area
Sent from my PG06100
When 4G lte came on in my area it was on for a couple of weeks then they shut it down for 4 or 5 days then it came on and it's been on for almost 3 months. Just fyi this might be what's going on.

I'm experiencing the similar issues, though I flashed over a ASOP Rom that has parts from cm10.1 though the Rom was ported from Verizon, but 4g worked perfectly fine, then when I flashed back to cm10 it stopped working. I'm debating on flashing back to that rom and see if it also does not have access to 4g at this time.
Edit/Update: I flashed back to my stock rom with root then flashed an updated MA6 Rom, updated the PRL, Profile and such, still no 4G. Decided that I'd mess with a few 4g settings, still problems. Then I flashed back to CM10 and my 4G works again.

Thats a bit of work, so this could possibly be some janky setting on my phone still huh?
EDIT: I dont have my stock rom backed up. Dont know what happened to it. Could you explain what exactly I need to do to achieve the results you have posted man?
Sorry for the late reply. It could possibly be a setting on your phone. I say make a backup of your rom, flash a stock based rom, kernel & firmware, if it's not ma6 find an update or one based on it. Update the prl and profile. See if you can get 4g working on tw, if not then either restore back to cm10 or try messing with the lte settings, their are some that allow you to enable or disable and such. I also do recall a setting for ehpd 4g or lte 4G. After messing with them try restoring back to cm10. If you take a picture of the lte menu I can look and tell you what settings I clicked.
Edit: Just looked at the link try the lte force cause I know I pushed that button as well as a few others.

[Q] Wifi Tether

I have the Sprint Galaxy S3 stock rooted and trying to get wifi tether to work on it. It was working just fine on my htc evo 4g running fresh evo. Within 10 seconds of connecting, it says "what the hell! Your phone takes back control over the wifi interface. Immediate tethering shutdown now". I tried installing SuperSU and that didn't help too much. I do still have the other super user app installed, but I think I disabled it when I started SuperSU. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

4.1.2 (MB1)
Wifi Tether via TrevE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1988735
With "WiFi-driver reload" Checked I get the following results:
I can connect both encrypted or open. But when waking the screen from sleep I get the TOAST WTH message and Tethering stops.
After stopping and ending a Tether session I can NOT re-engage WiFi mode unless Reboot.
With "WiFi-driver reload 2" Checked
Tethering Starts but not visible to clients. So no one can connect.
After stopping and ending a Tether session WiFi can be resumed without reboot.
Not sure what else I can provide to help but if there is more I can let me know.
Thanks!
You Sprint Connection Optimizer needs to be Off. In Jelly Beans stock/custom roms it will turn On even if you set it to Off, you must freeze it with Titanium Backup.
About the TrevE mod, use the */22 version(thats how I fix it).
And most important Wi-Fi can't be turned on while using Wi-Fi Tether.

Well the Sprint Connection Optimizer really is "don't use your unlimited data".
It just drain your battery looking for an available Wi-Fi.

That's the Sprint Connection Optimizer turning your wifi on all the time. Just disable it in settings (not sure exactly where in settings, but it's definitely there, I'd assume in "more" under wireless settings).

Thanks for the clarification, Rocker of Dragons. I've been running AOSP Roms for so long I've forgotten where all of the settings are in stock TW.
And just a quick question: I noticed in your sig that you used Mskip's Toolkit when rooting. Did you have the same issues with Wifi being borked when you rooted it using the toolkit? I've stopped recommending it because of the issues people have has with it. I currently recommend Skunk Ape's guide, since it's easy to follow and walks you through each step with pictures and everything.
You can remove it via Titanium Backup, if you think its as useless as I do

If your on a TW rom I recommend freezing it and not removing. Removing it has caused issues because it is linked to other tw based apps within the system.
On my two cents I love it I pick up wifi hot spots everywhere and the phone just connects automatically once you have already set it up. I go to Target I'm connected, I go to grocery store I'm connected, I go to mall I'm connected, I go to bookstore I'm connected, I go to Home Depot I'm connected, I go to Bahamas Breeze I'm connected... Lol see the advantages to using it.
