No need for doing S-OFF since this version of bootloader can be unlocked without it. If you really need it for something, the only solution I've seen so far is using XTC Clip device, google it.
First backup everything you'll need later using some backup app, unlocking will require factory reset.
Go to HTC dev and unlock your bootloader, a bit lengthy procedure, but not so hard, just follow the instructions on site.
http://htcdev.com/bootloader/
After your bootloader is unlocked, get Clockworkmod recovery for your phone from
http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
Use fastboot command you have used in unlocking phase to flash recovery. Phone should be connected via USB, in hboot mode, fastboot option chosen, drivers installed on PC, but you should learn all those details during unlocking phase. Command should look like:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvel.img
Now you can enter Clockworkmod recovery by entering HBOOT and selecting recovery option. Get familiar with it
Now,
1) If you just wish to root your phone, nothing else, use CWM recovery to install this zip
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=672519&d=1312136127
It will add Root access app to your phone.
2) Since you worked hard, you deserve better than this. Install newer and more awesome ROMs using CWM recovery
I've tried Cyanogenmod 7,9 and 10, few MIUI versions, WildChild 3.3, and one AOKP version so far, using Oliver96's CM 10 ALPHA2 build at the moment, needed a lot of effort (SD partitioning, installing custom Google Apps, various tricks to get more space on /system, etc), but now I have Android 4.1 and everything works as charm

[Q] Unable Root HTCWildfire-A333

Hi Guys,
Having Problem in Rooting for my WildFire-A333.
Find Below are my Specifications. And Yes I tried both SuperClick and UnRevoked but it seems doenst work.
Model:HTCWildFire-A333,
S-ON(Unable to do S-OFF),
HBoot:1.02.0000,
Android 2.2.1,
Kernel Version:2.6.32.21-g6c55ee4
HELP!!!!
Thanks
How did you get that hboot, did the phone come with it? Never seen it before. Try to go to revolutionary.io and try to downgrade your hboot so you can s-off. After you have s-off you can then root and custom rom like mad ;-) if you can't downgrade the you can go to htcdev and get your bootloader *unlocked* but that will void your warrenty and they will definitely know about it.

Looks like you have updated the HBOOT from HTCDev site.
If yes you can use HTCDev site Bootloader unlock tool to unlock your bootloader which will make your device rootable. (it will still show S-ON though).
Nop,HBOOT came with this device itself.
i tried both htcdev, they says unable to bootloader for this ROM.
The HBOOT must have been updated somehow. Is it a new phone or did you get it second hand.
Did you try HTCDev method from the steps after the HBOOT update is done.

Nop its not updated it is as it is which i bought almost 1 year ago.
Its Not Second Hand
Yes I tried and result was unsuccessful.(ROM IS NOT SUPPORTED)
it says your rom version is not supported currently, but there will be an update soon that will be supported.
i have selected "hTC Asia India" as carrier. is it wrong??
I believe first you tried to update HBoot which failed then you tried to unlock bootloader without updating HBoot and that also failed.
If that is the case you have two options.
1. Search the forums to downgrade your HBoot to 1.01.0001, if you can successfully downgrade your Hboot you can use Revolutionary to get S-OFF.
2. Wait sometime to see if HTCDev site gets updated with support of your ROM and then try again.
Also if your existing ROM is India specific then you should select "HTC Asia India"
Mine is 2.25.720.1 CL299250 release-keys which is for India.

Hi.. u just try rooting your phone again using "unlockroot" one click tool(www.unlockroot.com) (as i did) or use htc super tool ...
Later install cwm recovery via fastboot method..plzz dont do it via rom manager as it just gives a temp recovery...
Then you can install custom rom's by going into cwm recovery..
IMP: make a backup of ur existing rom b4 flashing a custom rom and do a data reset b4 flashing..
hope this helps....
Still Not working Guys, please help I am just fed up with this message"low memory disk space"

Thanks. I have successfully flashed clockworkmod. Then I've made nandroid backup (and flashed cyanogenmode - it seems to be much more responsive).
The only alteration was that I have used the fastboot utility from Google Android SDK.

Try revolutionary ! It will S-Off your phone and install the revolutionary recovery. From then on you can flash other hboots or recovery's

revolutionary is not working with hboot 1.03 (1.02 and lower)
I think the only way is downgrade(if possible, don't know the way) and get root/s-off on lower hboot

There is your problem. HTC official method doesn't give you the same freedom unofficial methods do. As far as I know there is no turn back yet, so bad luck for you, inform yourself better next time. htcdev gives you root but leaves hboot locked.
from HTC site:
htc said:
Why is my security still on (S-On) after I have unlocked my bootloader?
Your device is shipped with Security on (S-ON) to protect your system software configuration (such as the bootloader, radio, boot, recovery, system and others). After you have unlocked the bootloader, however, you will have lifted the restrictions on boot, recovery and system. This means you can customize boot, recovery and system images on your phone as you desire. You can easily see that you have successfully unlocked the bootloader by looking at the top of the screen when entering the bootloader screen. Security is left on to protect things like the radio, and SIM lock.
Click to collapse
You can't change your bootloader because you are S-ON and you can't get S-OFF because methods to get S-OFF are based on original bootloaders, by installing HTC's new bootloader you have locked you out of getting S-OFF. HTC does only give you access to boot, recovery and system, is not full S-OFF and that includes a locked bootloader.
yeah you basically screwed yourself by using the official method. Ironic isnt it?
via xda app
Not sure why all the peripheral discussion around here makes it sound as if he's bricked his phone.
OP, I understand you've "successfully" unlocked the bootloader and want to flash cwmr. In that case, the solution is to download a .img image of cwmr, and flash it using the fastboot program:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Or use any of the GUI tools for fastboot.
For all practical purposes, unlocked bootloader ought to be enough for you.
ok problem sovled
This method i have folow with some changes.
1) Unlock phone via HTC official process (registration required)
You are now unlocked S-ON but have no root access on the existing rom, however by doing it the official way you dont need to flash the radio anyway. I used the following steps to get CM7 installed on mine.
2) Downloaded ClockworkMod Recovery 5 (GSM not CDMA)
download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-bravo.img
(i have download instead dl.dropbox.com/u/4518713/recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.7.111102-j_r0dd_mod-bravo.zip this from this topic)
(sorry - forum wont let me post urls yet)
3) reboot phone into fastboot
and plug in the usb
4) In the environment you set up for the HTC unlock process enter
(this means put the *.img file you downloaded in this file: C:/Android (with adb, fastboot)
open cmd, type:
"cd c:\Android"
"fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-bravo.img" OR "fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.7.111102-j_r0dd_mod-bravo.img"
5)unplug the usb cable from your phone.
select bootloader press power to select
wait 20 sec
select recovery press power to select
if the flash was successful you will se the ClockWorkMod Recovery 5.0.2.0 OR 5.0.2.7
6) To navigate into ClockWorkMod Recovery
Use trackpad, not power to select
Yes, that's the age old method of flashing via hboot. Nothing new about it.

Stuck at Stock Froyo after unlock Bootloader by HTC Tool. Help!

After using HTC tool to unlock bootloader, my device boots up and my bootloader is locked, Hboot at 1.02. I tried several times and it's now unlocked, but still S-ON. Then, I try to root it using dozens of methods. Finally, my rom is rooted now with super user inside app drawer. However, I can't flash cwm, or new Roms. My recovery shows system 3e, which always check signature of update.zip when flashing. It was 2e as I remembered.
Maybe I am the first one using the Espresso that face this, anyone has any idea about this. I've read through all the threads here, but no help...:-(
go to adb, then boot into fastboot and type "fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-3.0.0.1-espresso.img" or whatever cwm u download. then flash any rom and you are good to go. Make sure you paste that cwm.img in the correct folder for your adb. Let me know if it works.
Gonna try it and report soon sir.

Error : No Connection.?

Hey guys! So my cousin bought this used Desire HD. Its running 2.2 Froyo.
So here is the list of the problems:
1. When downloading from Google Play it does not download the app but it can browse. It gives a "Error : No Connection" in the status bar.
2. It should update to 2.3.3 but it says im already updated.
3. Tried factory resetting 2 times. Same thing.
4. Also one weird thing. I live here in Pakistan, so YouTube is blocked here. But the phone does browse YouTube? (it cant open the video though). Some kind of ROM problem i guess so.
What should i do to resurrect this problem? Thank you! Its the International version. "HTC Desire HD A9191".
Also the Serial number is SH11JRX08759

Power off the phone. When it is off, hold down the volume down button and press the power button. This should get you into the HBoot screen. At the top of the screen, it will either say "UNLOCKED" or "LOCKED". If it is unlocked that's great. If it's not unlocked, look at the HBoot line to make sure the HBoot version on your phone can be unlocked. If it can, just follow the guide posted in this forum to install a 4ext custom recovery to flash custom roms.

You need the ENG S-OFF in order to use any actual commands/flash anything. Also rooting won't fix the play store problem, you must change ROM.If I may recommend, SVHD for a sense rom, or CM10.1 for that clean look.

Keep in touch kind sir I will update u the details
Unlock your bootloader first via htc dev. just follow the intructions in htcdev
Note: You need to update your bootloader first
- if the ruu in htcdev runs and update your bootloader, then your good to go
- if not or error appears, then create a goldcard (Instruction can be found somewhere here)
copy the updated hboot zip file to the root of your card and flash the zip file in recovery
then go back to unlocking your bootloader via htcdev
once unlock use the easyaceroottool to root your phone
-this will automatically flash the clockword recovery then you can flash any custom rom that you want.:fingers-crossed:

In the old thread that was here many people rebooted straight away with no problems, they had S-OFF.

just make sure you have a custom ROM ready to be flashed, do not boot the stock again once you reboot to bootloader.Flash 4EXT recovery, you can find the recovery .img here
just DL a ROM of your choice and flash it afterwards.

[Q] prerequisites before flashing

Hi there,
I got HTC Vision phone. It was SIM locked with Gingerbread and I did root according to this instructions, but at first i had to do downgrade back to Froyo according to this instructions. Now I have phone rooted and sim unlocked, but i would like to upgrade back to Gingerbread.
Is it necessary to do some prerequisites before or i should just install Gingerbread from SD card?

.
No nothing.
If you wan't a really close to original GB rom, you should try Virtuous 2.0.
When i try to install new ROM using ClockworkMod Recovery v5.8.1.0 and confirm installation i have only "No" options, but there is nowhere "Yes" option, also when i want to wipe data i am not able to confirm it because i have only "No" options.
Do you know how it is possible? This is my third android device, but i have never seen this.
Never seen this before either, I suggest flashing a new recovery from fastboot (you will need an updated recovery for KitKat ROMs anyway)
You'll find the latest clockwork and twrp recoveries in the development section here and latest 4ext image will need a Google search
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img
