I have broke my phone and the lcd and screen has broke so no touch screen or display works. I have insurance on it so I need to ship it out soon for a return. I want to back it up so I dont lose all of my stuff. Could I install clock work mod recovery and look at another phone I have using the hard ware keys to get to the back up selection and put the backup on my computer and when I get the new phone, put it on there and restore? Im pretty sure I can do that but will they allow the return if I had flashed clockwork mod. I dont see how they couldnt because they send me the new phone first and I send mine back after I already have the new phone so they cant deny the return can they?
No you can't mount USB drive from recovery.

OK pull battery memory card out let it sit for a few minutes redownload the stock tar file and make sure u put it under PDA and only auto reboot should be checked. Then with the battery out plug your phone in to ur PC and push 1 and power and see if it goes into download mode

are you using stock cable?
Use a blackberry original micro usb data cable.
I had same problem. But using blackberry data cable solved my problem. If your battery is not charged then get it charged from external sources.
Also try flashing odin without battery and without micro sd card
Samsung stock cable is the main cause of soft bricking of epic.

I was wondering if it's at all possible to remove Odin Mode from my phone. I've been researching a good bit and haven't found anything. I've also searched here and other forums for anything related and haven't found anything, either.

Yes flash a ROM meant for another device. That will remove Odin mode and everything else. You will have the shiniest brick available. But it won't have Odin mode!

Good advice. But you forgot to mention the need for a complete wipe prior to flashing. Let's do things properly.

Yikes...you mean download mode?
The answer would be no...and the question would be why on earth would you want to?

Coming from a device that utilized fastboot, I too wished this were possible. However, its never going to happen
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda premium
I came from a device that utilized fastboot as well and I was used to it so I understand where you are coming from. Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do about it.
I had a device with fast boot and I have no idea where he is coming from. Removing download mode won't do anything to benefit performance. You can't add fast boot to a Samsung device..at least that i am aware of. Download mode is just the way things are done in these parts. Removing it would only remove a potential lifeline when things get scary with soft brick. It would also remove the ability to root. If you want fast boot back, you will have to go back to a device that utilizes it.

I guess I worded it wrong. Before I even flashed a ROM, my phone didn't say Odin Mode at the very top of the download mode screen. I forget what it said, honestly, but I'm asking if it's possible to restore my phone to it's original state before I used Odin to root and mod it.

So you want to go back to full stock with no root.

Are you sure there isn't a way to disable /make unusable Download-mode/Odin-mode without breaking the integrity of the sbl?

Hmm, I just have an old personal custom kernel/rom on my old phone, I no longer use/hack it. It's totally useless, but I just want to keep my visual change forever (print my name at the boot, and some random other useless thing like that, it's juste for fun, somes little patch I make when I discovered the kernel), It is also to learn something new about the sbl-download mode, because I don't really know how it works, and I haven't found any documentations about this.
tl:dr : for fun, discover something new.
Thanks for any idea, or tips.
There is no way to remove download/Odin mode. To attempt to do this is absolutely retarded. I am now reporting this thread to stop the insanity. Do Not private message me again about this subject either.

There is no way, nor is there any need, to 'remove Odin Mode'.
Yes the power button is broken now i can't turn on my evo it is not rooted and usb debugging is checked off. how can i make it wake up? i know i can ise adb but debugging mode is unchecked so is there any way to turn it on? i do not have insurance and my contract is close to end up. but is there any way to do it ??
You can call the phone and decline the call. While the screen is on you can make whatever changes need to be made. That's about all I can think of since you're stock.
The advice is free....the bandwidth, not so much

You mean while completely powered down right?
Sent from my PG06100
Yes when the 3vo is powered all the way off. It was a really cool feature. I used it when I had a pc img on the sdcard and needed to get into recovery. Unlike the EVO you either flash the pc img or reboot it won't allow you to do anything else.
I have never tried it with the og but it can't hurt to try.

Charge it. When fully charged, unplug the charger and plug it back in and the evo should respond if what they suggested didn't work.

Ok I just checked the adb and it is not like the 3vo it you not connect while off. I also tried your suggestion soap and that is also a not go but I found a way. Remove battery connect charger then put battery in and it boots. Hope this helps some. The next thing I would suggest is that you install a rom that allows you to wake the phone with your volume buttons. Then you should have a working phone. Or if you want to all out you could take it apart and replace the power button but might be more work than it is worth.
Thanks. I used a wire as bridge and it booted. Now i use anylock app. Thanks for your time

Good to hear it didn't have to go to the graveyard..
I put original firmware back on my phone and used Triangle Away. My count was reset to zero and it says original Samsung. Phone works great again after rough few weeks. However it still says "System Status:Custom" Is there a way now to change this back to normal in case I need warranty service? Thank you.

It doesn't matter. But if your phone is already on you should just do out through settings. You haven't rooted again right.
Here's the thread where I got it from and personally tried myself. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136921

Go into phone official recovery by power, home, and lower volume key together and wipe cache (and data too I think). It will clean out custom recovery footprint. (Hint: you have to be unrooted to go in official recovery). Hope that helps.
