4 Window multiwindow - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Just saying it would be awesome to see someone take advantage of this huge screen and making it more efficient in going back and forth opening new apps and such in multiwindow maybe even a hole new UI could help make this possible so that it's easier to manage and switch thru the open windows?
Am I the only one who thinks so or have I gone bananas?

This is probably best to ask in the development forum.

Hmm.
*What if*
You put Ubuntu on your Note II -- and then replaced Unity with Xmonad
-?-

Not sure if I'm willing to adapt to another os then Android. How's the usability on the note 2?

No, its not something to ask in development forum as a new thread. All posts in development forum are if you developed a new rom, mod, or script urself. All others go in general section. And questions belong in Q/A.
Sure you can ask in an exsisting thread already made in development.

Bumping your thread isnt going to make a reply come quicker, you do realize people read more than just the first page of threads?
But anyhow, the answer is no. "Hold back to kill" is a ROM specific tweak. It is hard coded into android source code by CyanogenMod. I have however had an idea for "hold back to kill" app where the app listens for a Hold search broadcast, then kills the foreground app. But until someone makes something like that. The only way to get Hold back to kill is by flashing a CM ROM.
wow i do appreciate your answer. it's nice to see someone adding a littke A to the Q that actually has knowledge on what i was speaking about. nobody else answered because they mostly had no idea what i was talking about. and not to start an argument but I've takin your bumps not needed approach for the few years ive been here and im not exaggerating when i tell you there were many that floated to a back page to sit forever. most peoples idea is that the further back the post is either there is no answer or its an answer there prolly not going to have the answer for since nobody else has by that point. but trust me i see your angle. thanks for your reply and im gonna keep researching on this because I'm almost positive it can be added, it's just how much work is going to be involved and can i do it lol. thanks
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
It can be added. Ive got it on my list of mods that i want to get around to adding here. Its a mod that requires decompiling a couple of apk/jar files and editing the code. It is one of the few that haven't been added to any of our stock roms so ill probably bump it up the list a bit. We shall see.

I dont think thats possible. Its a ROM source code tweak. As in the source code is changed. So far ive only heard of CM and MIUI Roms having this. Just google it, im sure if it was possible someone would have already done it. I mean it requires editing the complete layout of the settings window. Unless you just change a jar file to listen for the hold back and then have it kill it.
But if you know how to do it, can you share what files need to be edited? Ive seen this question pop up almost everywhere and even ROM devs say its only possible via kitchen. But hey you learn something new every day
I could swear ive seen it ported to other stock roms such as sense and tw. Been a few months since i last looked into it though. Gotta go to work so ill try to find the info for you later today.

It may have been ported. But they may have used a kitchen. Like I've seen stock ROMs have it but I've never seen a ROM without it get it added without cooking a new ROM. But I'll be hitting refresh awaiting the information! ^-^ thanks!

No...NoteII is not officially released it but I have read here that it is available for pre-order online....
Is the 64 GB version going to be a release model, or will it release way later like it did with the S3?
Is there an SD card port?
How much is the SPen?
How mod friendly is the Note? By this I mean I suspect it's basically the same as the S3 but do the mods do a good job of incorporating the pen?
What are some good apps that are optimized for something like the Note as opposed to other android phones?

I think 64gb version will be released late as Sammy has been doing for ages...
Yeah....it has a external microsd cars slot.
Spen for note was around $100 here in India 3months back. But since note2 has a different spen,I suppose it can only be said when Sammy puts it on sale...
By mod,do you mean custom roms???if so,if the rom is based on stock rom,it will be fully compatible. But if the rom is AOSP,you will miss all features of spen but still you can use it as a normal stylus.
You can find all spen optimized apps in samsung's s-choice app.

Have you look the sense4all projet? There is already a rom working for the internationnal GS3 (SO DON'T FLASH THIS ROM). Maybe you can try to port that one.
Also our phone have the same processor than the canadian HTC One X, maybe you can go in that direction.

I'm sure Thomas Edison got some good laughs when talking about the light bulb too. You don't know him or know what he's capable of; nor will you ever find out with this attitude. I envy his will to learn, and to take on a big challenge like this. I don't envy, I even despise attitudes like this that try to put people down who are attempting to do great things. To OP: even if you do fail at this, with the attitude you have, you will do great things.

To OP, try porting AOSP/AOKP ROMs from a similar device (like the other SGS3 variants). Those are way easier to port and will give you a chance to learn the basics.

In the same way guys... There's a learning curve. It could have been approached differently. But speaking from the position as he stated that he is completely new to this... If I was a sherpa and someone who had spent their life on a couch says they're interested in rock climbing, I'm not going to say, 'awesome, next week when your equipment arrives go to mount Everest and have fun!' There are ways to train and become better at things. Would suggestions have been better than simply stating that it'd not go well... Yes. And coming here to help where there are experienced devs is good hopefully their guidance will be enough to get him on the right track with this project and if not maybe he can start out smaller and build to this project.

I mean lets be realistic has sense ever been ported completly stable to a non htc device before? Dont go swimming in deep waters if you dont know how to, start off shallow then work your way up.
Being real about the situation might seem harsh but it is what it is......but if he does have some sort of coding skills than by all means do whatever

Easy PORTING to sprint note2

Its not the same phone .... some of it is but for some reason sprint changed the mount point on some partitions ... there are small changes to the hardware it just takes time to do things ...beyond compare is a good program to use when porting ROMs it allows you to compare the 2 ROMs side by side . Remove and replace stuff

he's pretty much right about it. they are different phones. however in the end they are nearly the same. i use beyond comparison 3 and have made success in porting the Sprint ROM to work on my USCC phone. doing this with the international versions would be a lot more difficult though. if you do attempt anything, be sure to use a Sprint kernel with another variants system. it will boot. the tough part is only fixing the radio issues. hope this helps a little bit.

You might be able to find the APK somewhere or extract it from an ICS rom from another device. I use Beautiful Widgets from the Play Store. There are a lot of different options and themes you might like. I enjoy having the three shortcuts directly from the "superclock" itself. Click on the weather part and it brings up the weather app, the clock brings up the clock, and the date brings up the calendar. This way it saves space on my home screen. You can also have the temperature displayed in the status bar, which I like a lot.
I have a not so stupid/stupid question.
