How much battery Air View consumes? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I was wondering if this feature drains the battery significantly or not? Did a search but didn't really get any results, can anyone comment here?

I don't think it actually use any extra battery due to the way the S-Pen works. The s-pen is detected above the screen whether or not you have air view on or off.
You can test it for yourself by holding the s-pen above the screen close enough for air view to work and clicking the nub on the pen in with your nail, it's all to do with electromagnetism as far as I know.

You can even use your phone without touching it. Just put your finger over the tip of spen, and go close to your screen...

Sounds like a hardware fault to me.
A friend had the same problem, it's a little triangle shape area like 4mnx4mn

Same problem here.
or... it's not really a problem for me, didnt notice it before i read this post.
Its already been noted magnetic fields interfere. Is it near the speaker per chance?

It's not a hardware fault, that's just how the spen work (the note one had a simular 'issue' too). If you go to settings and change the s pen settings from right handed to left handed it's the left corner that won't work.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Nope, when i change the setting, nothing change. Maybe it's the speeker, or the pen captor?

After hours of testin, it must be something interferencing with this corner.
When i push a little harder the stylus in this corner, Spen work but the cursor is shaky.
This would really irritate me - does it happen with every note? Or just some? And is it always the same size (4mm triangle)? And exactly where is it - is it right in the corner if the screen or somewhere nearer the middle?
If it does not happen on every note I'd be returning the phone for a new one, if it does happen on every note I'd be thinking very hard as to if it would irritate me too much.
Mine also does not respond, its where the head of the s-pen lies, so maybe there is no sensor in there.
I'm lucky enough for not having the issue.

he's right , here's a screenshot taken after trying to fill the area in with sketchbook mobile. https://www.dropbox.com/s/0h1jfkzhgy6zksh/notecorner.jpg most apps don't use that area though. ( sketchbook does )
I just checked, it works for me.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Hmmmm, seems to be only affecting some people from these replies - could it be ROM related (are you all running same ROM) or is it a true fault? If its just a ROM then there are no real concerns for me but if its hardware related........!! Would annoy the hell out of me - I love sketching on devices - I'd be returning it

Now try to fill it using a very thin pencil. Normally it's the hole right and bottom border that won't get colored (happens to me on my note 1 and 2). That bottom right corner just happens to be in the intersection of both lines which makes it a little harder to fill even with a large brush.

I tried scrolling down a page using air view and it works. Should I test something else?

So is this normal behavior? I'm looking to get a n2 this week and I want to be able to spot defects
I have a white International version, stock Rom. Airview work in this corner, but it's shaky an i have to aproche the Spen, more than in the other area of the screen.
super interesting thread would like to know if this is normal. with hover , the arrow disappears as well when it enters this "note 2 Bermuda triangle"
( tried with a really thin brush on sketchbook, same thing )

Quick Glance feature

Swipe your hand slowly over the sensor and the phone will show time, missed calls, messages, and battery percentage. I think it's a pretty tight feature. Was just wondering how many people actually knew about it and use it.

It's a nice feature but I wonder how much battery it will drain? If you think about it, in order for it to respond when you put your hand over the sensor, it means the sensor is always going to be on. That means something is running all the time.

I do use it. the first few days I had the Note II I kept wondering why is it turning on by itself. there was no ad about it like the other touchwiz features of the S III on youtube. then I found lots of touchwiz features on settings. LOTS.

Good point about battery life, but battery life on this device is so good at least for me. I'm willing to to sacrifice what ever drain it does use tho. I love this freakin phone.

Just checked, this feature keeps the proximity sensor always on when the screen is off. To test, turn the phone of in a dark room, you should see a red glow in the sensor.

Even laying the phone flat on my side table it seems to work sometimes. This feature is good but seems to be hit and miss.

I tried using it for a while and noticed it had noticeably more battery drain for me. I guess YMMV though.

I also experienced a noticable battery drain after enabling the feature. Then when I turned my screen on it would not sleep. Rebooted and it works fine.

Its a really nice feature for when ur walkimg around ur office or house and just wanna see if u have any missed txt, but i did read something online where it drained the battery super fast. So i shut the feature off and i literally got 5hrs more out of the battery, wasn't worrying through out the work day if it was gonna die.

used it for about an hour, was pretty meh. Good concept, but bad implementation. I have my phone on my desk and it was always turning on and off. But when I needed it to to show me quick glance data, it worked about 50% of the time.
The only thing from that menu I love is the Palm Swype to screen capture.

I have been testing the quick glance feature and noticed that it works best in low light conditions, especially in darkness..
I sleep with my phone on my bed (I use it as my alarm clock) and with the lights out quick glance works for me every time. I have gotten to like it because the screen is much easier on the eyes, at night (dimmer), than hitting the power button to check the time/notifications. I disable it during the day though.
The Palm swipe for a screen shot is awesome. It is a much faster way to take a screen shot than having to take out and use the S-Pen.. I wish the screen didn't turn white while swiping though. Not a big deal I just think the loud click upon taking the shot is enough to let the user know the shot had been taken.
I used it when I got my Note in November but as mentioned, it does cause a very noticeable battery drain.

my favorite on there too. I used the quick glance the first few days then just got tired of it. I prefer the smart alert, it vibrates when I go pick it up if I have a missed call or message.

are the two features of samsung galaxy note2 called air view and air touch one and the same ??
also from my note 2 I am not able 2 scroll home screen or type letters in the keyboard by just hovering the S-pen over it..
whereas i can scroll up and down and use my note2 hovering future while playing a video.. so that means my S-pen is working.. then y not I am able 2 type letters from keyboards using S-pen by just hovering it as written in many websites

Read the comments on the video, it's a broken s-pen.
its broken but i heard from many people that they are able 2 scroll through home page...
i wish its all fake.. coz if its not fake it means my note2 has some problem

Yeah seriously, that's really a nice way to quickly break your pen's nib (on the bright side though, you'll get the "airtouch" always enabled!). And sort of pointless too.

Bad Pen input

So when I use the pen and try and write closely to the home button the pen doesnt trace properly. I can see the indicator move around the spot that I am trying to write on. Has anyone had this problem before? Its like there is a dead spot that then pen just goes around.
Thanks.

Is the device in a case with magnets? They can interfere with the digitiser.
The case does have magnets but its not happening near them its by the home button and in the middle of the device. But I will take off the case and see if it helps. Thanks.

[Q] Spen in it's cradle keeps waking tablet

In regards to the feature (if thats what you want to call it) that as you pull the S Pen out of cradle the tablet vibrates and the screen comes on.
With the S-Pen in it's cradle the screen the tablet will virate and the screen will come on. Just carrying it (without hands or fingers anywhere near Pen) and alot of times it will do this on its own when the tablet is say, just sitting on the table by itself. Is there any way to turn this off? Or a way to make the screen ONLY come on when the power and/or home button is touched. I searched all over and can find no one mentioning this. It's driving me insane.
Any ideas.
Thanks
