[Q] After Rooting Questions - HTC One X

Hi Everyone,
I've just successfully rooted and flashed a customer ROM (ARHD 16.0)
Just want to check the difference between have a custom ROM a stock ROM. Currently I'm still using the phone like it was before. So a few questions from a noob
1. Would the apps and data be wiped out again if I would try another ROM?
2. Is there a way to backup App Data and Settings if ever I would try another ROM or back to stock?
3. What are the things that I can do with a custom ROM/rooted HOX than with a stock one?
Hoping you guys can help me out with maximizing/understanding the things that I can do with my HOX
Thank you!

1.it depends if the next Rom you are going to install needs a full wipe 2. you can backup the apps ...also you can backup the settings using apps ....also I'd you wanna backup the apps make a nandroid backup for the Rom you are using then restore only data ...it it won't work from sense to jelly bean
3.every Rom has its own features and amazing stuff ...and when you root your are able to do awesome things with your phone ..like installing a Rom ....oc uc..change kernels ...install apps that cab do amazing things ...and LOTS if other things
The bottom if line, a phone not rooted is useless

Thanks for the info.
Is there any specific software/apps that I need to use for the backup of the apps and app data? Does Titanium backup do the trick?
Any other helpful apps that might help? Thanks!

If your using Clockword mod recovery, then u can download rom manager and make a full back up of your current rom.
I'm assuming you already have root?
I am using 4EXT recovery I am just testing out the backup and restore at the moment to make sure it works but thanks for your advice, will try that if this method doesn't work

4EXT is highly thought of around here, I like using CWM as it's so easy to restore backups straight through rom manager.
Happy flashing
Ok just had a great result with a 4EXT restore. It works im so happy going flash a ROM right now lol. Thanks Everyone that helped me I dont have any thanks left for today but you will surely receive them tomorrow im out PEACE

How to flash from Android Revolution HD to Core Droid?

Hello.
First sorry for my English so poor, it happens that my favorite language is not really speak Spanish. Anyway, that's beside the point.
I've always used Android Revolution HD, which is an amazing rom, but would like to try the CoreDroid v4.4 seeing ONE X has a very attractive graphical interface, and I wonder if I can just flash this rom without losing my applications, my games (and saved games) because when I change from one version of Android Revolution to a newer, I have no change in what I have on the phone.
Can I normally install without thorough cleaning (super wipe)?
Thanks in advance. Greetings from Dominican Republic excellent forum!!
It's highly recommended to do a full wipe before installing a new ROM - just make sure to backup everything you need before you do so. You can try installing it without a full wipe, but you'll have a greater chance of running into complications that way. All user files in your sdcard will not be touched during a super wipe.

Thanks for responding. What application do you recommend to do the backup? I have Titanium Backup, that's okay?
Yeah, use that to backup your user applications and use 'Go Backup Pro' to backup contacts, call logs etc.
Make sure to make a nanodroid backup just in case something goes wrong or you want to go back to ARHD.

From the recovery, i.e., clockworkmod.
I tried to make a backup nanodroid having free 2gb sd card in my and in the process he told me he did not have enough space, I suppose it's very heavy. In which case you would use a backup nanodroid? And which option should I choose in Titanium Backup? Backup all user app + system data?

A nandroid backup is a full system backup: besides the andriod system itself it includes all your setting and all your apps (so: ARDH, setting and apps).
With a nandroid backup its very easy to go back to what you had; just restore the nandroid backup from within the recovery and your phone is back to exactly the way it was.
The only downside of a nandroid backup is the size, but then again, it needs to be because it includes everything!
I would recommend making some extra space on your phone and making the nandroid backup. This way, if Coredroid doesn't work for you, its very easy to go back to your ARHD.
Please keep in mind that since there is no s-off it is always neccesary to flash the right boot.img before going to another ROM or before going back!
Since you'll be using Titanium Backup switching ROMs it doesn't make sense to backup system data; big change there are some differences between system data (settings and stuff) for different ROMs. I would just backup all user apps and try to restore them in Coredroid.

Wow, thank you very much for this comprehensive information. I'll make a nanodroid backup and a backup of my applications with Titanium Backup to restore in Coredroid, and if not what I expected, just use the nanodroid backup to return to ARHD. I'll be back to tell you how I was. Thank you!

just a heads up before you go and restore those apps: DONT DO IT!!!!!!!!
backing up is all good, i guess for the same rom at least. 9 times out of 10 restoring a backup, especially on the different rom, will completely bugger up the rom, and it will run like complete crap
just install the apps manually trust me - was rooting and custom romming my friends sensation a while ago, and he restored a backup, and it broke, so we had to wipe and reinstall the rom again to get it working properly
EDIT: definitely make the nandroid backup though.

Probably will bugger up the ROM if you try restore system apps. Didn't have any problems restoring all my user apps.

[Q] Make an original state backup

Hello there, I have a HTC Wildfire S I bought last week, I've already unlocked the bootloader, installed the CWM recovery and rooted the phone but I wanted to try new roms but at the same time I do not want to reinstall all my apps from my stock rom so I wanted to know a way of making a backup of the actual rom while keeping the installed apps so I wouldn't have to reinstall them, like going back time.
Yes I've made a backup of the stock rom after I rooted it and yes it is on some place safe.
Thanks.

Use Titanium Backup app to backup all the apps and their data and keep the TitaniumBackup folder from SD card in a safe place and after installing a new ROM, transfer the TitaniumBackup folder into the root of your SD card, install Titanium backup app and then restore apps.

Cwm backups all data in their current state, including applications.
If you're talking about bringing your already installed apps to another Rom,I wouldn't recommend doing it.
It worked as you guys said, thank you so much now I can enjoy CM10 and rollback to my stock rom with my apps already installed

Tools

Need some help moving forward with rom installation. Have been reading and playingback guides and articles in the last few days on rooting and roms. Just rooted AT&T S3 I747 ver. 4.1.2 and have access to SU. Installed Revovery Tools from DsLNeXuS and Titanium Backup Pro. Made a backup with Recovery Tools and stopped.
I'm going back and forth between guides noticing some of them were written over a year ago. Have been using these guides below.

Questions. Are Recovery Tools and Titanium Backup Pro used for the same purpose? Is the toolkit below an alternative to both these tools, RT and TBP?

Do I need to run RUU flashing?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Recovery backups are for if something happens to your phone you can restore phone its original sate by choosing backup from recovery.
With Titanium Backup you can backup your applications and data. Tomorrow if you install a new ROM you can just restore applications along with data from Titanium Backup.
When you flash anew ROM you will loose all your current apps and Titanium Backup is used to restore them.
Thanks. Sounds like I don't need to have both recovery programs but Titanium Backup will do.
When backing up apps is it necessary to back up all the at&t apps?
I am still at a lost with RUU. Do I still need to Flash RUU?
thanks.

You use titanium backup for backing up apps and the associated data (logins, settings, game progress, etc). For installing custom ROM you need a custom recovery such as CWM or TWRP. Samsung stock firmware uses ODIN vice RUU.

So I'm hearing "restoring data from one rom to another can cause problems". This will be my first rom install. I've already backed up all apps and data. Do I have to pick and choose which apps I want to restore after flashing a new rom?
Thanks in advance.

It could cause problems. If it occurs, it is usually when switching from a Touchwiz ROM to an AOSP ROM and vice versa. If you are going from stock TW to a custom ROM based off stock (or AOSP to AOSP), you will likely have few to no issues. App compatibility with a new android version is another matter (I.e. ICS to JB 4.2). It could happen over changes in android versions but it is not likely and even less so over minor variations (4.2 to 4.3 for example).

Restoring "System" data from another ROM will usually give you problems.
Also, it might be a good idea to copy your EFS folder from the root of your phone, using a file explorer program, to your SD card or computer before you start flashing ROMs, as most people who later had data connection problems (lost their IMEI numbers) never got around to doing it.

Any file explorer program recommendations to copy EFS folder?
Are "custom ROM based off stock" and "Samsung based ROM" the same thing?
I am currently running AT&T Android Version 4.1.2, Baseband I747UCDMG2. Can you recommend a couple of known stable Samsung based ROMs?
On backing up apps and data. When preparing for the very fist ROM flash, does it make sense to not backup all the bloatware apps AT&T has in 4,1,2.?
Thanks in advance.

1. Root explorer is good. But it's a paid app.
2.Yes
3. S3Rx, Dandroid, Intergalactic, and Graviton are some excellent touchwiz ROMs.
4. Do not restore system apps!!

I currently have Recovery Tools, Titanium Backup and ROM Manager installed.
Do Recovery Tools ans ROM Manager do the pretty much the same thing? I see a lot of info for ROM manager. Will I be able to do everything by keeping only one(ROM Manager?)?
Is it better to always flash from external SD card instead of internal?
Slim Bean
Figured it out. Running Slim Bean 4.2.2.build.8-OFFICIAL. Don't think I can ever go back. Well worth contribution to developer.

[Q] Recovering apps and data after flashing custom rom with Philz touch

Hello,
I realize this might have been answered before but I have no previous experience with this sorta thing and looking through other threads did not help me understand what I need to do.
I have an N5110 with 4.4.2 original ROM and want to flash a custom one.
I have already flashed Philz touch backup and understand the custom ROM (Civato's) can be flashed using it.
I have allot of school related data in apps and folders and wanted to know if there is an easy way to flash the new ROM and somehow restore all of my apps and data using Philz touch?
Thanks for reading!
If your rooted you can use titanium backup to back up the apps + the app data.
