[Q] Frequency Question - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't know if this is the right section, if not, can administrator please move it to the right one for me, please.
So I got an unlock Galaxy Note II (T-889V), which works on AWS. I know Telus / Bell / Rogers got a different frequency, but if i want to use my phone on their network instead, would it be a software issue or hardware issue to change the frequency? e.g. will adding their modem file work?
Thanks

ROM difference between i927 & i927R and 4G symbol

Hi,
Being in Australia the Captivate Glide is not available locally so ordered it online via a parallel importer.
I was supposed to receive the AT&T version but due to no stock I received the Rogers i927R version.
I cannot root the device as my work place prevents it since I need to use it for work related messaging.
1. Is there a list of differences between the AT&T and Rogers ROM's ?
2. I'm on Optus which uses 900/2100MHz, so the phone will connect on 2100.
Using an App called Network Signal Info I can see data connection switching when I'm moving around as normal, but the data symbol in the notification bar doesn't match when on 3G as follows:
NetInfo | Speed | Notif-Bar-Symbol
GPRS | 55kbit | G
UMTS (3G) | 384kbit | 4G <-- doesnt say 3G
HSDPA | 7.2Mbit | 4G
This a bug or ROM incompatibility ?
Thanks.
The only differences I know of is that the Rogers ROM is carrier-iq free and the tethering option is unlocked.
In my AT&T version, I can't find any way to manually toggle between 2G and 3G networks. However the network info apps/widget show it's automatically switching between EDGE, HSDPA and HSPA.

It would be handy to sometimes by able to force 2G to save battery.
Anyway, can the Rogers ROM be flashed onto the AT&T Glide and still work ?

Good point.
Sounds like I should stick with the Rogers one they sent me rather than swap it for an AT&T version since the Rogers one will be most compatible without having to 'root'.
Carriers in Australia seem to allow tethering by default as long as you have a working App for it.
Thanks.
Which parallel importer did you use, do they have an online storefront?
Hope the Rogers version pricing comes down as fast the AT&T one. That's I went for At&T, down the line I'll end up flashing it with an open ROM. Mostly because of OpenVPN support.

Indeed that's why I asked, since I don't use any data packages.
I checked my mom's S II, appears to be an AT&T carrier limitation. It won't even scan for other networks. I set her S II to 2G.
Earlier I wasn't concerned with the AT&T ROM, but this one is annoying, I could save some serious battery time by switching to 2G.

They've been very helpful and responsive, trying to get stock as quickly as possible.
When they couldnt get the AT&T Captivate Glide they sent me the Rogers Galaxy S Glide.
Seems that was the better way to go.
AT&T locks down their network and band select while Rogers does not. AT&T uses an "H+" on the HSDPA network to show status while Rogers uses a "4G".
Learned by flashing Rogers ROM onto an ATT cglide. Changed the model to 927R as well. Went back to ATT when I noticed the loss of the ATT wifi options.

So even after rooting the phone, there's no way to manually change bands while on the AT&T ROM?

Which WiFi options? Is the Rogers ROM disabling some WiFi options?

I'm using the Rogers version in Australia.
I have all the normal WiFi options and have used it at home and on public ones with no issues.
I think, just guessing, that Tynar is talking about the customized WiFi options on the AT&T ROM I have read about which gives you access to their own WiFi network.

Yep, I since had a look at the User Guides, of which there is a different one for each version Rogers and AT&T. The ROM's have been customized to show different symbols for mobile connectivity.

Ya... Thats at&t limitation, I guess... But atleast in my sister's AT&T Thrill phone (running Froyo + rooted with SuperOneClick) the "NETWORK" app (LINK) from AM/PlayStore works and helps in selecting 2G only or 3G only whenever needed...
But even that app is NOT working on my rooted CapGlide... May be because this phone has only rooted-ROM and not rooted-Kernal (as told by rooting guide in cap.glide development section)... Experienced members please help... I badly need 2G only for battery backup and 3G only for good speed as 3G coverage in my place is not great...
Thanks...

With AT&T Rom, you don't have that option.
You can flash Rogers Room (Untouched or Custom Rom) where you have the option of manually choosing network and choosing 2G/3G
Switching to 2G would really save on battery life.
So the notable differences are...
1. The AT&T ROM doesn't allow band switching or manual carrier search and selection. While the Rogers ROM does not have this restriction?
2. AT&T allows WiFi tethering, while Rogers doesn't?
3. Both versions come with Mail for Exchange apps?
4. Skype, G+ Hangouts, Google Talk, Voice and video works on both?
Please add/correct any other big differences. I'll make a table and put it up on Wikipedia once we have the notable differences, that could cause issues with international use.

[Q] LTE Access on T-Mobile with AT&T S III

I've been searching both the T-Mobile and AT&T S III forums but haven't found my specific question.
I have an unlocked AT&T S III that I'd like to move over to T-Mobile. While I was in their store today I was told that I couldn't access their new LTE network in my area until Samsung sent out an OTA update. I know all LTE networks aren't created equally but I'm accessing AT&T's just fine, averaging about 32Mbps down and 10Mbps up.
I can't find any information about a Samsung update that would let me access T-Mobile's LTE network. I did a few speed tests with their SIM card in the store and the best result was 3Mbps down and 1Mbps up.
Any thoughts on this supposed OTA update or what I'd need to do to access their LTE using my unlocked AT&T S III?
For what it's worth, I'm currently running CM 10.1 M2.
Well according to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks
Both At&t and Tmobile use 1700/2100 AWS. So once Tmobile releases the new Galaxy S3 someone can extract the radio from it's firmware. You could then flash the radio on your device. Alternatively you could simply enter the APN settings from Tmobile's Galaxy Note II which already (due to recent firmware update) supports Tmobile's lte network.
You can use this site to check on the progress of Tmobile's lte deployment.http://sensorly.com/map/4G/US/USA/T-Mobile/lte_310260

The APN change is a solution I haven't heard about. I'll probably head back to the store tomorrow to test this theory. I'll give feedback regardless of how it goes.
Please do I had the exact same question and I would appreciate it. Thank you.

I wasn't able to test this theory today because I couldn't find reliable T-Mobile LTE settings. I also read that changing or adding new APN settings can have adverse effects like Google Now not working. This makes me a little hesitant to try it even if I can find the right config.

Ah ok, you should be able to delete apn settings you add after testing. I don't have the phone in my possession or else I would test it myself. The settings I believe are changing the apn to fast.t-mobile.com while keeping everything else the same.

[Q] samsung galaxy note 2 shv-e250L variant concerns, help

hi! i am new here. i would like to ask a few questions regarding my samsung galaxy note 2 shv-e250L. pardon if some of the questions have been asked before, it is just i am new and i would prefer to make a new post so my questions would be specifically answered on this post. hopefully, you would all be kind enough to answer my queries. i would be very thankful.
anyway, here goes:
i have opened the hidden menu of the phone and it led me to this- please look at the following:
network setting/1. network mode
automatic
wcdma 1900
wcdma 2100
wcdma all
gsm 900
gsm 1800
gsm 1900
gsm all
lte b5
lte b1
lte all
since shv-e250L has the 850 and 2100 bands as mentioned in wikipedia , so i will only be able to use an lte capable smart sim which is being offered to prepaid subscribers. however, my questions regarding this screenshot are these:
a. what if i won't choose the automatic preference and change it to any of the choices, will it affect my lte signal?( that is if i am going to use the smart lte sim)
b. what do those lte b1, lte b5, lte all signify?
c. what does wdcma and gsm mean? what do they pertain to?
d. if i change any the choice from automatic to any of those, will it affect my text and call? or just the internet on my phone?
please look at this too. the following are:
lguhiddenmenu
1. ims volte settings
2. ims volte sip reg
3. ims volte error table
4. ims volte roaming setting
a. what does volte mean?
b. can i change any of the settings here?
c. will it affect the text, call, internet of the phone if i change any of the settings?
for example, look at the following:
volte setting/1. ims volte settings
lte/3g server dns is pcscf1.lteims.co.kr
wfi server dns is wifi.lteims.co.kr
server ip is 10.113.13.75
server ip2 is this allows you to enter a string
server ip3 is this allows you to enter a string
lte/3g-dns or ip(1=dns) is 1
wifi-dns or ip(1=dns) is 1
pco is 1
server domain is lte-lguplus.co.kr
lte/3g server port is 5060
a. can i change anything above?
b. these addresses pertain to korea, can i change these and will it affect the call, text, internet on the phone?
c. or should i just leave it?
i have been reading some posts about flashing shv-e250 models with different roms. i do not know anything about flashing or rooting because i have not tried it ever on my phone. so far on some posts, some users like the rom n7105 for the note 2. i would like to ask some questions about this.
1. if i flash my phone with the n7105 rom and install the kernel appropriate for the shv-e250L, will there be changes on the phone? can you give examples? will there be functionality of the phone missing like vibration, or etc? most of all, will the phone lag?
2. follow up to number 1, i want my phone to stay the same actually, that is with the same functionalities with the shv- e250L and i am contented with it but i just want to make the sms character count to 160 just like the regular phones(i tried handcent, sms pro, but sometimes they won' t even send more than 160, it is inconvenient); remove those korean apps because i won't be able to use them anyway; everything in english since i do not know korean; be able to see my phone number and the network provider in the settings. that is all. as for the rest, i want everything to stay the same. is the n7105 rom capable of these things and still have all the functionalities of the shv-e250 L?
3. what does kernel mean and what will it do to the phone ? in this case, changing the kernel to the kernel provided in this site for korean note 2s.
4. in wikipedia, samsung note 2 n7105 has bands 800,1800,2600. if i flash the phone with n7105 rom, will it have these bandwiths too? or the bandwidths of the shv-e250L will still remain even after flashing with n7105?
5. if ever there is a new update for the shv-e250L, how will i update since the rom is already n7105? or should i update using the n7105?
6. if i decide to change back to shv-e250L, how will i do that?
7. last question, i have kies on my computer, and downloaded some apps for the note 2. the shv-e250L is not recognized by the samsung appstore ph. is it because it is a korean phone ?? i tried switching to samsung appstore korea but the language i do not understand. if i flash it with n7105, will it be recognized by the samsung appstore ph as n7105? or what country- samsung appstore us or what particular country i mean? and will i be able to download apps now from the kies on the computer.
p.s. there are times when i do not use internet on the phone and since the computer at my house has internet, just dsl not wifi, so i use that in case someone will wonder why i just don't download using the internet on my phone.
this is all for now. thank you so much. for those who are going to answer and render patience, thank you.
pardon moderators if i made a mistake in any way regarding posting.
have a great day everyone!
any one? help please
You waited 10 hours to ask why no one had followed up? Patience is a virtue my friend.
You can pay with those settings if you want, but there is also a good chance you might break your phone. The menu's hidden for a reason, you aren't going to be able to activate lots of amazing features.
The answers to almost every question you've asked are to be found in these forums already. Spend a bit of time reading and searching.

EXACTLY.. plus am I correct in saying that the op will only get an LTE signal if its carrier supported. In which case if you leave it on auto in the settings he will get the best signal at present with the present carrier hes with... ps I wouldnt mess with any of those settings unless your completely 100% sure of what your doing..
Also as this is a question and query it should of been posted in Q and A section.

[Q] D851 LTE europe doesn't work

hello every one.
My lte doesn't work. I already test with the rom paranoid and CM.
I m from morocco our 4g is new and i think is the same as the europe 4g (lte).
Do you have any idea ?
Pls help
Thank you for your time
up
Help pls i need to flash modem ?
Which carrier are you using in Europe? Are you roaming from T-Mobile or have you purchased a different service/SIM card in Europe?
Also, what country are you in specifically?
There was a guide somewhere on XDA regarding Qualcomm processors and band unlocking using QXDM (LTE) and QPST (GSM/WCDMA) though I forget the exact name. I believe there was also concern that it could damage antennas. Also I have no idea if it actually works and mucking around in the NV RAM space is very risky. I would not advise it.
Is at least the GSM service working? If so, is it really that bad that you need LTE? Personally I would leave it at "oh the gsm works, I'm good". :good:
Depends on the carrier you are using, is your phone unlocked? I would assume that it is since your can receive gsm signal.... Anyways, what you would want to do is check your network's APN and check our phones APN settings and add the 4g/LTE APN settings to your phone manually... Then restart your phone and try again, make sure you select the apn after adding it so you know it's active. Try that. If that doesnt work, then go into your APN settings again and just do (reset apn setings) or something along the lines of that which resets/restores your apn settings back to normal/default.... either one could work, try the first one first ofc! Hello, and welcome to XDA!
In short, no and no. A SIM lock is due to something different. A firmware change from one carrier to another (in my experience) will not only not affect the SIM lock, but it can be disastrous for the phone. Changing the IMEI also has it's consequences.
I am connecting you to the forum your device experts can be found (T-Mo Galaxy Edge Q&A):
> T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge > T-Mobile Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
The experts will likely have some suggestions on how to SIM unlock.
Please note, to respond to replies, you will need to register for an XDA account.
Hope this helps, and good luck!
