The Optimus G comes with some lovely stock wallpapers, however, there aren't any that I can use for my lock screen that match my overall B&W theme, or none that I have found acceptable. I have found various wallpapers I would love to use for my lock screen but you can only choose a photo from either your gallery (I can't even get it to accept these since adding ADW EX) or from wallpapers. So my question is, since I have no experience tinkering with system files, how would I go about taking these wallpapers I've found that I really like and adding them into LG's wallpaper file so I can access them for my lock screen? I would assume this is possible, I just have no clue how to go about this. Phone is rooted and unlocked. I have Busybox, File Explorer and a few other tools installed that may be of use for this. Just let me know what I'd need/need to do! All help is appreciated. Thanks in advance guys!
They must be somewhere inside the LG's home launcher.

Unfortunately, this doesn't help me. I need to be able to add to this file my own wallpapers. So I'd need to know the directory on the phone they're under, then how to get my preferred wallpapers added to this folder so that I can utilize them as a lock screen.
You need just download them and unzip.
The wallpapers will appear in gallery

Yeah, I get what you're saying. And I can get them into the gallery, unfortunately though, I'm no longer able to use Gallery photograph's, it HAS to be Wallpaper. For some reason, since installing ADW EX for my launcher, I can no longer set gallery pics as my lock screen. I can access those photos, pick one and crop it, it says "Saving", tells me it's changed my wallpaper, but it doesn't. So how do I get them into the system wallpaper file? I've gone through the files on my computer when I've linked my phone and can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Can anyone provide me with a path that I can copy these photos to? Or offer me help on how to fix this Gallery issue with ADW? I've tried disabling ADW and using my the LG UI, but to no avail.
Well, theoretically its possible, practically it will be pain in arse cause there really a lot of things you have to do, and actually i believe it will cause the security error on boot.
You have to modify .apk in /system/app which im pretty sure will brick your phone.
What lockscreen app do you use?
If the stock, just go Settings->LockScreen->Change wallpaper, but this method doesnt work for me when default launcher arent set to the LG Home.
But still im able to set lockscreen wallpaper through QuickPic gallery.

Stock lock screen. I may change that and see if that helps, though there really aren't very many options out there for ADW, none that I've found I really care for. Tim, I appreciate all your help. I'd rather not risk bricking my phone, so it sounds like I'm stuck with what I've got until we get some custom ROMs...if we ever do >_< I'll download Quickpic and give that a shot, but I'm not holding my breath. Again, thank you for your replies!
Found a lock screen program I really like finally called MagicLocker. I'm now able to choose whatever I want for my wallpaper, and the app has a lot of custom lock design options you can acquire from the App Market, many of which are free. Thought I'd just add this in case anyone else is having issues and wants a fairly customizable lock screen app.

Previously i was running stock froyo rooted.
Ive flashed the stock gingerbread (odexed) from here and all went well.
ive noticed now that when i open an app from app drawer, when i click "back" to exit out of the app, the app drawer is still open. Before i flashed the stock gingerbread rom, the behavior was, click "back" to exit out of app and i would return to home screen (because app drawer was automatically closed).
Has anyone else experienced this?
If so, does anyone have a solution to go back to the previous behavior?
(note: i dont accept "hit home instead of back to exit out of app" as an acceptable solution. I also dont accept install another launcher as an acceptable solution.)
Please advise. Thank you.
in case it helps...
I have no other launch installed (no LauncherPro, and no AWD Launcher)

you could try and download a gingerbread rom from MIUI.us or go to RM or something and try it.

Anyone else notice this problem or know of a fix?
I am having that problem too and it is driving me absolutely insane. It has to do with how the Go Launcher is actually coded.
The app drawer seems to be in another activity and if you launch something from the app drawer when you exit back to the home screen you will return to the app drawer. However when you start something from the home screen you will return to the home screen when resuming. If you run out of memory while in the app and android kills the home screen then you will see different behavior and return to the home screen no matter what.
There is a really simple fix to this behavior, maybe this weekend I'll take a look at this tool and fix it then post a link for it somewhere.

If anyone can try to persuade the developers of go launcher to add a menu option for this that would be awesome.

I actually just took a peek at the site for Go Launcher and it looks like this behavior is new in version 2.61, behavior number 5:

Well you can't exactly come here and pick and choose which answers you want to hear. If you have a problem that you don't understand and/or don't know how to solve then you need to be open minded about the answers you're given. I'm not sure how your particular ROM is coded but that very well may have been a change implemented by whomever created the ROM. There are a number of launchers that have their assignments setup that way. There are also some that don't. If so, then you'll either have to use a different launcher, use the home button to get to the home screen, or flash a different ROM. No amount of picky mentalities on your part is going to change that. The only other thing I can suggest is to reflash the ROM, though I doubt this will yield any results, or download another odexed ROM and flash it. Either way it is definitely a software issue. Which means that the issue lies somewhere embedded in how the ROM was built.

Yeah I use Go Launcher and I have the same thing happen to me. I don't find it to be a problem at all since the apps I use 95% of the time are on my dockbar. So when I press the home button it actually does go back to my homescreen since I never open the app drawer. That's my way around it. The apps are more readily available in my dock bar anyway. So it's a win/win for me.
Anyone know what com.htc.fusion.FusionApk.apk is? It is taking up 50 MB of /system. I unpacked it, and it appears to contain three theme-related files: Default, BlueSky and Burgundy. However, the asset files for those themes exist as their own apk's as well, so I'm not sure what this FusionApk thing is.
Virtuous Unity 1.26 leaves about 60 MB free on my DZ's /system. I can easily free up an additional 150 MB by deleting unneeded system APKs with Titanium Backup. I've frozen them first to see if there are any bad side effects, but so far there don't seem to be any. For example, the Sense clock widgets take up 26 MB, and the animated Weather lockscreen takes up 24 MB. I don't use either of those, so I might as well delete them. I'm just not sure what FusionApk is, and a Google search isn't turning up anything useful.
So nobody knows, eh? I suppose it can't be that important then...

Verified clock/weather widgets can be removed as long as neither are active on your unlock screen, but is it worth getting rid of them just to have to reflash if you need them?

Confirmed, you shouldn't delete it, upon reboot, I lost the visual lock ring and my widget boarders as well as pretty much everything that was themed besides the app tray. If you know where these things are, they still work, I.e. you can unlock the screen by sliding the unseen ring and what not, but I would not recommend doing so, now to restore my backup.
Gave it a shot.
Don't wanna bring back a dead thing, but I figured I would answer it...
Using NoBloat, I disabled it. It takes away the dock with HTC Sense 4. It makes your buttons all weird and takes away your app drawer button. I re-enabled it and my dock frame came back. So it is a vital thing to sense UI. My lock screen, its still different but I have no idea which service does that. [I disabled roughly 40 things.. lmao] It doesn't bother me, I do like this lock screen better. Which instead of dragging it up, you drag it to the right, or left for camera. I never noticed anything app wise. My lock screen still worked fine. But when I get a phone call now, I have to unlock before I get to the answer button.. That I don't like but it doesn't bother me that much. Aha. I suppose you could use LauncherPro but I don't like it on my device since it add an on-screen menu button.. lol.
Apologies in advance if this is more appropriate in the Themes & Apps section, however this is a question so I thought it should be here.
I've been looking at how to customise a couple of things in TouchWiz to achieve the look I want but also balancing functionality.
Specifically, I'm trying to do the following:
1) Different wallpapers set up for each screen.
I have looked at Multi Picture Live Wallpaper but based on what the dev. has advised, this does not appear to work on ICS so that rules it out at the moment.
I'm also not necessarily keen on using an alternate launcher (tried Nova) because removing the S-Pen doesn't trigger anything when removed with Nova as the launcher - and that's something I'd still like to have working.
2) The icons on the bottom row / dock of the launcher. I would have thought they were customisable but they don't appear to be. The instructions that I found suggested you need to open your app drawer -> Menu -> Edit and you should be able to drag/replace items in the dock area. However, when I try to do this it doesn't seem possible.
For context, I was inspired by this: http://mycolorscreen.com/2012/11/23/white-serenity/ and want to take some of the ideas and apply them to my Note2.
Does anyone know how to do what I'm after?
Thoughts appreciated.

Can't answer your 1st question, because I don't really care much about wallpapers, but in answer to your second question, just long press on an icon in the dock and you can move it off and back on the dock. If you move other icons over the top of existing doc icons, you can create a stack.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks Dave, had tried long pressing already but it does nothing for me.
Pressing and holding icons on the homescreen brings up a message box that says "You can resize widgets, and reposition widgets, shortcuts, and folders by pressing the menu key and tapping Edit."
However, when doing so - the dock disappears.

Thanks, apologies if I was unclear but that does not work either -tried the obvious stuff first.
Is it working for you?
The only thing I can think of is that my rom may be slightly modified by my carrier (Optus, Australia) as it has some a couple of bloat ware apps and something they have done is affecting it.?
Regardless, I had a play with Nova launcher again and given how customisable it is I'm okay with giving up the S-pen pop up menu.
Still trying to figure out multiple wallpapers bit may have to compromise on that too.
Cheers for your responses.

Thanks, I had been trying to get that working but the best I could do was getting it to display one wallpaper even though I had 5 set up.
After realising i had to also change the scroll wallpaper option in the *nova launcher settings* rather than just the Multi picture live wallpaper settings it worked correctly. Now I have multiple different backgrounds displaying.
Appreciate the responses with help guys.
(Still can't edit dock icons on the stock launcher though -which is odd -but as I'm using nova now I'm not overly concerned. )
Interesting that you can't remove the dock icons - I do believe some people had the same issue with Optus branded Galaxy S IIIs. What a bizarre carrier customisation.
Best bet is to flash an unbranded stock ROM.

Worse. Incompetent.

Nice to know I'm not the only one experiencing it though.
Only resolution if you want to use TouchWiz and have an Optus handset seems to be flashing another rom.
I haven't run across anything else that is a show stopper for me though and as I'm getting what I want with Nova Launcher (with the exception of the pop-up S-Pen menu when the stylus is removed), I'm reasonably happy.
This is how it's working out so far - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35096760&postcount=821
Edit: Thanks Onslaught - if they've done it on another handset model as you've suggested it's either a silly oversight or a silly decision.

Hi folks
I contacted Samsung about not being able to change the dock. This is the response I got:
“In response to the customer’s enquiries, unfortunately we you can’t change the dock icons as they are locked in, this is actually due to a patent issue we had with another manufacturer. This is not actually a fault of the handset but a design specification. It will not be changed in the future.
In relation to replacing Google Chrome as the Internet browser, that is also not possible. The user can drag the app onto the home page so he can more easily access it. Again, the dock icons can’t be changed or replaced.”
So if the problem is limited to Optus handsets in Australian then I'm thinking this answer is a bit of BS? Anyone have one of these on Telstra? Vodafone? and have the same problem? I'm assuming everyone else outside Australian can change the dock icons?
Thanks
One of my colleagues purchased a Note 2 via grey import (thinkofus.com)
and hers does not have the same restriction so it definitely does not apply to everyone. Not sure about other carriers in Australia though.

I bought a Telstra branded version yesterday and it has the same stupid restriction, so I guess it's an Aussie telco thing. I have no idea why carriers think this sort of thing is a good idea, it just hobbles good technology, and annoys people at the same time.
Anyway I flashed a generic Singapore 4.1.2 firmware today and it fixed everything up (as well as getting rid of some Telstra bloatware).

The Quick Note pop-up appears on Nova Launcher but the extra home page that appears and takes focus when you remove the S-Pen (only via the Default TouchWiz Launcher) is lost. On reflection, I don't find it that useful as it seems to be more of an introductory / landing page for the S-Pen and when I remove the stylus it's literally just to take a note - which I haven't done much of to be honest. On the additional landing page that appears when the S-Pen is removed, the Quick Note pop-up appears on top of this as well. So in my opinion, not losing much at all by using Nova Launcher.
First screenshot is in Nova Launcher, second is in TouchWiz (already closed out of the Quick Note pop-up).

It appears to be whatever is in the Australian ROMs.
The model isn't necessarily different as grey imports are technically the same.
Internationally imported handsets do not have this restriction and I can confirm I've observed this myself with other Note 2's from colleagues / friends.
So basically, either flash a new ROM, use the suggestion from Beeva in this thread (requires root) or use a different launcher to get around this.
I'm bored and looking to do a Hubs layout on my N7. I use Nova prime and would prefer not to switch. I'm also trying to get Simple Text to work properly. So, I have a couple questions as I've started looking at this.
1) I followed this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1232359 but it uses a different launcher, where you can use "catalogs". Nova doesn't have this feature. Wondering if I create a folder with all my apps in it, "hide" it with a blank icon (per the vid), would it show up like the catalog does in the tut? Has anyone used Nova prime for Hubs?
2) I like the idea of using word instead of icons, like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1786323. When I use Simple Text, my word icons are pretty small, no matter the size of the text I select. If I use a large font, it squeezes it to fit into the smaller space (if that makes sense). I'm guessing it's squeezing it to 64x64. I have changed my DPI, wondering if that is my issue (why it looks so small).
Any tips for a Nova prime user?
Hmm, am I the *only* person attempting to do a Hubs layout using Nova prime???
I'd like to know this as well. I also use Nova Prime and I don't really want to switch to anything else, as I love Nova.
Still, I just may play around with this and see what I can do. If I run into anything interesting I'll let you know.

Well, since I had little response, I just kept playing around. I *think* I have what I need. I've only been playing with features, etc, I have not completed this as of yet. But here's what I've found:
I've locked Nova to landscape
Removed margins from Nova settings
Create the black/gray bar as the tutorial states, using Minimalistic Text.
Create a new Simple Text widget, 2x1 horizontal. The action (or whatever it's called) would be to goto page #x, where x is the page you want the word link to go to.
Make sure you allow widgets to overlap in Nova settings.
That would get the bar with word links to whatever page you need. Now, for catalogs. I have not found a way to really replicate it. But, what I've tried is to create a folder of apps, replace this icon with a transparent icon, then place this icon "behind" whichever word you want to show the catalog (or in this case the folder). If you're following the video, then when you're on the games page, you have a transparent folder for "games" that you place behind the "games" Minimalistic Text. Since you're on the "games" page, it won't be a link to a page, but since you've put the transparent folder behind it, when you click the text, it will pop-up the folder. Now, this folder is not as pretty as the catalog, but it is essentially the same.
Now, to answer my question #2 - I was attempting to replace a folder icon with Simple Text icon. Well, this would squeeze it down quite a bit. Instead, create a Simple Text widget (2x1 or 2x2) as described above. Then, it can be resized as needed.
Again, I've only begun to play with this, but I think this should work as expected and hopefully get us (us as in Nova users) on our way. :fingers-crossed:
I noticed you added some links while I was replying - I'll check those out to see what those have to show. Thanks!

No problem, thanks for your reply too. I'm at work now so when I get home at night I'll have a go at this and post the results - if they don't suck
Okay, so I pretty much did this. Did all the wallpapers, which took forever, then made all the text icons, which took another forever. End result, I didn't like it. While it looks cool I suppose, it pretty much gets ruined and goes all awkward whenever you change your screen orientation. I had already thought of that, but I thought, how bad can it be? Well, it certainly annoyed me, and I uninstalled all the crap I put on there and went back to the way it was. It's just more functional this way.
Also having the wallpaper change on every screen irritated me for some reason. Like nothing was consistent anymore. Anyway, I didn't like it.

Did you save the settings and icons when using Simple Text? That should greatly reduce the time, I imagine. Also, in my earlier reply, I suggested locking it to landscape - simply because rotation would ruin the layout. Or, lock it to portrait, whichever you prefer. Locking the homescreen(s) doesn't affect apps. So, I can lock the homesreen to landscape, open my e-reader app and rotate to portrait, no issues.
But, if it wasn't a good layout for you, then these suggestions mean nothing. I'm still gonna give it a try - as soon as I find the time this weekend.
Give it a shot, you might like it, but it just wasn't for me personally. I felt like I'd be serving the tablet more by tweaking it for hours and hours rather than it serving me. I don't know, just didn't click with me.
Hope yours turns out better
As you can tell from the earlier post, I had to play around with the things to figure it out (Simple Text specifically). But after I had it all figured out, it probably took 45 mins top to get it setup. I like it locked in landscape, so I'm good to go that way. And with a nandroid backup, I don't have to worry about redoing this, I can just restore it.
Now, I have to do my wife's N7 as she loves what I've done. Note to self: never show the wife my cool ideas, as she'll want them too.
I think I played too much with apps that changed lock screen photo cause now Im stuck with one and cant change it. I purged the gallery data which effected in changing the wallpaper onto default one (the kid with the balloons on the meadow) but still not much I can do. My phone is rooted. I didnt use QuickPic or any other apps to view my pics, only the Stock one. Any ideas?

There is a bug on 4.2.2 that you cannot change the lockscreen wallpaper if you have the Ripple effect. Other than that I have no clue, maybe a senior person can guide you!

Good to know that You dont take people as idiots. No I didnt try that. c'mon :/
Ive got rooted phone. Just made hard reset, cleaned cache as well... problem still exists :/
I am able to change the wallpaper for animated one (as long as I pick home and lock screens together), but then when I change it to normal one it goes straight to the default.
Can anyone tell me where is the default one kept? Im gonna delete it (or move it) and see what happens.
Im on rooted stocked system android 4.4.2 and I have the same bug with being unable to change the lock screen while on unlocking the screen with ripple effect :/ bummer
