Siri Story - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

For the record, I'm anti-Apple. With that said, I'll tell my story.
So I don't remember how we got on the topic, but a friend and I at work were talking about time-zones the other day. I think we were joking about getting rid of it or something and about how dark it would be at certain times of the day, yadda yadda... Just BS'ing basically... Well at some point during this pointless discussion the question came up: "What time is it in Hawaii?"
Well this friend at work has an iPhone, he's always bragging about it and "how much better it is" and we always have our friendly bashing on each other. Well he's like "here, let me ask someone who knows" and asks his iPhone "What time is it in Hawaii"
I'm waiting and listening... Nothing.
He's looking at his precious iPhone and eventually goes "Oh this happens sometimes, it's bringing up search instead, it must not have understood me, let me do it again."
He says again "What time is it in Hawaii"
I'm sitting there and my smile starts forming, because I still hear nothing and I can see the look on his face.
This is of course when I smoothly and calmly chime in and make a snide remark like "That paperweight doesn't understand you. Here, let me try a real device." I tap the widget and ask my S3: "What time is it in Hawaii?" Within literally 2 seconds, it comes back and the Google Lady robot voice goes "It is currently 5:03 PM in Hawaii" And shows the Time on the screen.
He walked away and didn't talk to me for a while.
Just thought I'd share my actual live experience with the whole Siri/Google (Now) comparison.
Google: 1 - iPhone: 0.
:good:

That's so awesome, it's rawk-awesome.

Privacy screen

Sorry if this is a re-post, search is acting funny, anyone have any of the privacy screens? Which ones allow the 4 buttons to work properly? I need to keep my gf from looking over my shoulder when I'm texting.

If you want replies to focus on the subject at hand, then don't invite unwanted commentary by including unnecessary details or "jokes". As for your question, I've never tested any privacy screens myself, but you can check out 3M's version at shop3m.com/98044049512.html. Also, you can always trim the privacy screen so that it leaves the capacitative buttons uncovered.
Wow, I really didn't see in the rules where it said no jokes, sorry for having a sense of humor, but alreast you gave an on topic answer, but ill be sure in the future to alreast let people know in the title that my post may contain jokes.

RANT Rogue / Rouge RANT

I wonder if people realize this:
Rogue = scoundrel, rascal, villain
Rouge = women's cosmetics
It drives me more crazy than it should, I know, but I guess that's my pedantic OCD kicking in. OK rant over. Carry on, haha.
And it's kernel, not kernal! Lol

It bugs me a little bit too, but I see it so often I have to wonder if it's not auto correct from people posting from their phones. I know my phone changes things I type so much it can really be aggrevating, but I read through before I submit and change things back. Just a thought.

XDA posters are infamous in my eyes for really derping up the English language while not givin' a hoot. I've learned to just deal with it.

Or most people are mobile with tapa or xda app and could really careless if a comma or letter is misspelled. As long as they got there question, post across...
Some of us are too busy to triple check our post before posting them (im at fault) but try our best so it is readable... Lol we dont get graded on our posts... Someone people on here have to much time to rant/rave about others... (not at anyone in general)
Again this post is not directed at anyone or intended to hurt anyone's feelings..
And i blame most of my grammar errors on my phone... Get me near a full sized laptop and I will tear it up... (big hands/thumbs dont work with a 2 inch keyboard on a 4.5 in screen....)

[TIPS] Samsung Galaxy S III: 15 Power User Tips

Hello members,
Every once and a while I come across an interesting article that is worth noting such as the article titled "Samsung Galaxy S III: 15 Power User Tips" over at PC World. There were some well not so known tips and great features that were listed in this article that wowed even me about the Samsung Galaxy III. Dont take my word for it, go over there and become informed. If you know of any other tips that were not posted, please do share the wealth.
Some examples are such as :
Save That Screen Retrieved from this article here:
"Take a screenshot. And another. And another. Taking screenshots with the S III is a snap—all you have to do is swipe the screen with your palm. So go ahead, take some more. And some more. And, well, you get the idea.
Other Android phones don't make it quite as easy. If you're using a phone running Android version 4.0 or later, you have to press and hold the Volume Down and Power buttons at the same time"
Make the Phone a Flashlight
"Stop digging around your bag in the dark, hunting for your keys.
If you have your S III in hand, you've already got a flashlight. The Assistive Light widget—which you can add to your home screen by going to Apps, selecting the Widgets tab, and choosing Assistive Light—turns the camera's flash into a flashlight when you need it most. Some other Android phones have this widget as well.
Want to add the flashlight feature to your Android phone? Check out Tiny Flashlight + LED, available as a free download in Google Play."
Oh yes, here is a great one that I did not know of......
Wake Up in Style
Let's face it: We all have to get out of bed sometime. And what better way to face your day than to be prepared for all it has to offer.
Using the "Briefing" setting on your Galaxy S III's alarm clock, you can have your phone wake you by reading the time, weather and weather forecast, news headlines, and any appointments you may have lined up. To turn this feature on, go to alarm type in the settings menu and change it to briefing.
Not a Galaxy S III owner? Download WakeVoice from Google Play to get some of these features on your Android phone.
Regards,
A lot of those are pretty obvious now that the phone has been out for a while thanks anyways tho.

Wow what are question forums for then? And yes before I asked this I tried Skype and it didn't work. Next time don't waste my time with smart answers.
I asked quickly because my cousin was trying to face talk with me and at the moment I had no idea. I knew I had a front camera but since I've flashed several ROMs didn't know if this would be an issue
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
Uhhh so answering your question is "smart"...forgive my arrogance then... If you needed your answer quickly, as you stated, why didn't you just Google it or go to the play store and do a quick search for video chat? It would have answered your question far more quickly (which is what you needed, right?) rather than waiting for a response from the forums. It's also one of the reasons a lot of members have the "Please search before you post" or something like that in their signature (oh look, a guy in here has it and in a large font and in red to boot!). He's being smart too then I take it.
-Btw Google talk (or Talk as it is shown in the app drawer) has been around for over a year now and is included in a whole lot of roms especially if you flash gaps separately and skype and tango have been out for even longer than that... just search first next time okay? Then you can be smart too!
Edit: I was just over in the PACman rom dev section and saw you posted the same question there and were told basically the same thing I told you but you didn't accuse them of wasting your time with a "smart" answer and they didn't even put it as nicely as I did. I'm no rookie to these forums and have been around here for a few years. I'm just under a new profile. So next time don't try to get "smart" with someone a bit wiser than you and who was trying to help...

Why did I just find out our phone has screenshot capabilities?

After having this phone for over a year, I just found out wii can take screenshots stock, no root. Hold Power and Home. Yes Home, the capacitive button. LoL!! It takes screenshots. Who knew this!? I was not made aware. I've been using ShootMe thinking I never had the functionality. LoL!!
I was just looking at this http://forums.androidcentral.com/sp...25-reasons-consider-sprint-epic-4g-touch.html and it said we can take screenshots. I was like "OH MY GOOGLE!!"

also, i believe our phone makes a pretty good Frisbee, got some pretty good airtime a few minutes ago
LoL!! Why do I feel like I'm the last one to find this out? I knew about it in the CM ROMs. Heck, some AOSP ROMs had it in the extended power menu. But my main concern was when running TouchWiz ROMs.
Everyone's talking as if the world already knew this. =.[
Well I guess with that blog talking about it, the world already did. =.P

Well... I never knew you could press Power and Home to take screenshots. In AOSP ROMs, they usually had the functionality added. If they didn't, or I was running a TouchWiz ROM, I would use ShootMe.
Now I'm finding out that I could do this stock. So I don't need ShootMe anymore. The reason this got to me more than usual was because I use SwipePad and one of my ports (as it's called in SwipePad) is ShootMe. So I can go take a screenshot without leaving the app. LoL!! This allows me to get rid of a port for a more useful app.
Android has spoiled me. I'm complaining about something small like that.
Here's a fun fact. The volume is adjustable via the buttons on the side.
