Guys please help. My HOX soft buttons suddenly stopped responding for no reason. Im running ARHD 16 and it's all good until this morning. Last night I watched a couple of youtube videos and then leave then the phone on my desk as usual. This morning i unlocked the phone and the buttons wont respond? The button lights are working normally, it just wont respond to the touch. I already did factory reset. Is this hardware or software problem? Can DIY fix? The screen is normal, it's just the buttons. Please help.
i had the same problem about 2 days into my hox ownership.
had to ship the phone back to get a new one. definitely a software bug

if its a software bug, you can just easily reset to factory defaults right?
why did you send it back for repair then?
If u say this is a software problem, it should be ok after factory reset. But it's not. Now I know I need to replace something in the phone. Should I change the digiter and touch screen or the only the digitizer?
shut it down for some time...and try charging it...
When it happened to me, HTC replaced the screen (and case :screwy, it sounds like a hardware fault.
Digitiser and screen is one unit, and although you can buy them separately, you can't separate them.

Oh my, screen + digitizer is awfully expensive here..
Can't you return the software to stock and ask your retailer to fix it? Or send it to HTC? Where are you?

hey all i am currently having a problem with me htc s621.
when my phone is on it randomly turns to a white screen after a 2 day period or so. and after a while of turning off phone/taking out battery/taking out sim card and doing this a lot it goes back to normal. im getting pretty mad and was wondering if i need to get my phone replaced or what.
any advice is helpfull. and the phone is not updated to 6.1 or anything like that. btw it all started to happen after i dropped my phone one time. i am not sure if that helps or not.
thanks in advance
laserjetx
The phone may be damaged. Is it a stock phone or has it be flashed with a rom?
it is purely stock no upgrades at all. today it did something new, it was white then 20 min later wen back to normal without me turning it off or anything. should i bring it in into warintee or anything i can do to help it?
I have seen simular situations before. It is possible that when you dropped it, the ribbon cable connecting the LCD to the board became dislodged and is only making a partial connection. Or the LCD is just plain broken and needs to be replaced. You can get a new LCD on ebay for around $30 USD and do it yourself or take it to a repair shop and have then look at it for you.
i believe i will take it into the store tommorow. get a professional statement and opinion to see what i should do. thanks alot guys

I recall reading some time back concering the cause of the white screen had something to do with the backlight time, try making some adjustments with the backlight. Also do a serious search for that old thread dealing with this problem..............!
You would probably need a new screen and the best option would be to replace it yourself because you could find a cheap one off ebay and then just youtube and you could find on how to install the new screen.
Recently my EVO has stopped responding to touch inputs. It will wake with the power button but sometimes the touchscreen will not respond. Sometime I'll be able to launch an application and then it will stop. Sometimes it will work fine for minutes/hours and then the problem will surface. I've tried multiple ROMs and it doesn't seem to matter what software (AOSP or Sense) the phone is running.
Any ideas?
Sounds like it may be a hardware problem and not a software one. Have you had any problems with the LCD or digitizer?

well if its not responding then it is the digitizer. but before you dump a bunch of money into a new digitizer or new phone let me ask u this.
does it only not work while plugged in and charging? because that is kinda a common problem. as long as it works when not plugged in then ur fine.
I haven't specifically tested it to see whether or not being plugged in affects the problem but another symptom is that when it goes on the fritz you can be hitting the back or home area at the bottom and it will register the touch somewhere near the top of the screen.
Does that narrow the possibilities?
Definitely sounds like a screen/digitizer issue.
If you have the protection plan from Sprint, you can take to a repair center and they will replace for you. No charge.
Thanks for the help. My local Sprint store will replace it for $35. So we'll see if that's the issue.
Gotta flash over to stock ROM so they'll work on it though.
EDIT:
Spoke to soon. Technician at the Sprint store won't work on it. They're trying to claim there is water damage when there is none. I guess I'll have to do it myself.
My screen randomly freezes, with Android still running in the background. It also has multicolored "snow" static-like crap on the screen instead of an image half of the time, especially when unlocking the screen. Happens when the kernel hasn't even finished booting as well. I also get visual artifacts appearing on screen, which would be expected if my GPU was OC'd, but it's not. Tried stock, didn't help, so I know it's a hardware problem.
I suspect it might be the slider ribbon, or the screen itself, but I want to know what it most likely is before trying to order parts and spending the money. If it's being caused by the GPU, I'm just gonna pick up a new part-time job and buy a new phone altogether..
Any ideas?
Same problem, same suspicions. I'm taking mine apart and will advise.
Got it back together... no change. Might just be the GPU.
Sometimes while the screen is glitching, moving the slider gets it to work. I'm thinking the ribbon cable in the slider might be damaged on the inside.
I'm gonna try replacing it since the part is $11 on Ebay.

It's not the kernel. I've tried every gsm kernel available, wiped the boot partition with fastboot, wiped everything, installed stock. Doesn't make any difference. 100% a hardware problem.

I'm wondering if the actual flex cable itself. Since I just derped and sat on my phone and broke the digitizer, I'm just gonna get the whole screen assembly (Since it's only about 5$ cheaper). It could be a while though. I can't order it till next tuesday.
I used to have similar problems on my g2 until I replaced the flex cable. But then again, the image seems to freeze and occasionally glitch, so I'm wondering if there's a faulty solder connection somewhere since shaking/beating/banging on the phone seems to also fix it sometimes.
I managed to dig up four old threads where multiple people had the exact same problems as me, replaced the flex cable, then had zero issues afterwards.
I was just reading them an hour ago. 100% sure the cable is the problem for my phone.
Now it's just a waiting game, first waiting until I have some cash, then waiting for the e-cheque to clear, then the shipment.. I'm gonna have to wait at least a month unless somebody goes and ships one to my door instantly.. Which obviously ain't gonna happen as I'm not a developer and just someone who helps ppl with their phones.
I'm gonna save up and buy a new phone, then give this one to my 11 year old niece after it's repaired. By the time I have enough cash for one of those new HTC models, the cable should be here.

Well if you do it before me, please let me know!! And I'll be sure to report back! I'll order the screen assembly next tuesday.

Sorry to resurrect this...
Sorry to resurrect this out of the blue, but I am also having a similar problem.
I have not rooted my R800at, but noticed first that the screen would sometimes stretch or skew into an absurdly distorted shape, only to snap back to normal after unlocking the screen.
Then, a few days ago, I also started to get this colorized snow pattern on my screen. I was wondering if you managed to fix your phone by ordering the cable? Also, not to sound too much like a pathetic n00b, is there a .doc somewhere (Or PDF) showing how to disassemble the phone to replace the cable, if that indeed fixed the problem?
I am going to see if AT&T will warranty the phone (Less than a year old, more than 30 days, not more than 90) but I am unsure if it is going to cost me an arm and a leg to do so.

The phone comes with a one-year manufacturer warranty. Since you aren't rooted or unlocked, send it in for repair. If you open up the phone to fix the cable yourself you'll end voiding the warranty permanently. If something else breaks later down the road that's harder to fix, you're gonna need it.

hey everyone well after reach tru this thread i think my flex cable is the problem as well
a while back when i unlock the fone the screen just use to be all jumpy (but i dont think dat was related to the flec cable problem cuz after changing wallpaper it stopped)
but like ah few weeks after i changed my rom, if i didn't slide out my gampad my phone wouldn't unlock, sometimes when i turn it off(the phone vibrates as usual but the screen nevr comes on) and then now like its completely gone i'm getting nothing from the screen anymore
so i'm guessing its the flex cable
and i think thats the reason for my front camera to stop wrking as well
FIX!

That's correct. You all guys need to replace the ribbon cable/flex cable and the issue will be gone.
noticed that my touchscreen is becoming unresponsive lately so i thought that changing the multitouch might solve it. the thing is, after selecting 4 touch, touchscreen becomes totally unresponsive. i tried wipe and even flashing stock os but touchscreen is still the same.
did i screw up my touch screen? how will i know? any known repairs or fix.
thanks
Sounds like your digitalizer (the glass above the screen) is busted and needs replacement. If your phone is under warranty, claim it, if not - get a new digitalizer and if you can't change it yourself, take it to a repair shop.
Changed the digitizer but still no response
Got a headache? It's all in your head!!!
switch ROM
You said that you flashed back to stock, but how about flashing to another ROM, I mean one that has a completly diferent multitouch enabler... that might work.

i was able to flash stock and it means i have no root nor recovery. and adb debugging is not enabled. i am out of ideas how i will be able to solve this.
After flashing stock ROM do you face the same issue with a new Digitizer?
yes. doesnt respond to anything except volume and power. even the 4 touch buttons doesn't work. i was thinking that i have received a bad digitizer or it is a motherboard issue. with the latter i have no idea how to check

I had recently taken my Defy to a service center. I just wanted to change the earpiece and the side casing. While replacing the side casing (while removing the Digitizer) they damaged the digitizer. The main touch portion was working but the 4 soft keys were not. They replaced the digitizer and everything was fine again (had to pay for it )
If you can carefully handle the phone, you can open up the casing and try reconnecting the digitizer to the board. (Do not remove the digitizer from the casing only reconnect the cable).
Replacement is better done by a service center as it requires careful handing.
I did open the phone, removed and reconnected the cable, still the same. also tried 2 new digitizer still the same result. I guess it us the mother board . Any ideas where to get replacement board ?
Thanks
Got a headache? It's all in your head!!!
i have got the same problem like you and i have solved it.
Do compass calibration like spin the phone 3 times in flat condition (laying down face up), then have the phone standing up and rotate 3 times, then on one side, rotate 3 times and then move your defy in the shape of number "8" in the air. Re-open the screen. it is suppose to bring back your screen work like it was nothing happened.
only for my defy i've tried never did this for another but from what i see you have nothing to lose here
Tried the calibrating thing and also a new digitizer. doesn't work. So it is the motherboard.
Anyone knows where to get mother board
Got a headache? It's all in your head!!!
Getting a new board is like getting a new phone - new IMEI, price for the board should be very similar to the pricw for a new phone too. If you think about it, it IS the phone. What's there in the phone other than the board a screen and a digitizer...
Guess you're right.
Got a headache? It's all in your head!!!
Hello all
I dropped my G3 a few months ago and cracked the screen. Recently got it replaced with a brand new OEM screen.
When I boot the phone, the touch works properly, can navigate the menus, everything. As soon as I turn the screen off, only knock on works but the touch doesn't work. I can't unlock the phone unless I remove the battery and boot again. There's no touch available in TWRP as well.
I'm currently flashing a stock ROM, Android L, hoping that it will solve the problem. If it doesn't, I fear I may have to resort to other methods. If any of you have experienced this, please let me know as to what steps you've taken to remedy it.
Thank you in advance.

Did you do it yourself or did you send it in or take it to a repair shop? If you didn't do it yourself, I would take it back and demand they fix it at no extra cost.
If you did it yourself, did you get the screen with the digitizer along with it? Just replacing the screen, on most phones, without getting a digitizer already fused to it means trouble.
Also, if you did it yourself, check all connections. I know with my daughters iPod, I had to replace the screen and it wasn't easy and the first time, all the touch areas didn't work correctly. You also have to be careful that you don't ruin the digitizer when installing the screen.
Also, you have to be real careful of all the connectors and the board. One wrong move and you could tear a cable, crack the main board, etc. I refuse to do any more self maintenance on devices like this. Best to either shell out the cash to have it fixed, or just get a new one. That, or also get extended warranties to cover damage to the device.
Also, did you have it in a case protector? If not, you might want to go get one. Otterbox's are worth the money. Yes, it makes the phone bulkier, but I'd rather pay $40 or so for their protector which really helps.

A friend who's an LG technician did it for me. Replaced the screen and digitizer I believe. He tested it on another G3 and the screen works perfectly. Given that the screen works on another G3, do you think it is likely that this is a software issue and not hardware?
I have a case that came with the phone but I've never used it, however, that's definitely going to change from now on.

I've tried everything, finally figured out that it only works with the quick circle case. If I close the case and wait for the circle to show up then open it, touch works. It's probably something internal that's messed up but I've since given the phone to LG themselves for a quote and possible repair.
