I was at school today, and my One X is safe in my pocket, I never even turned the screen on. Later when I got back home, phone had only 30% battery left and 30 MB had been used by streaming media. Mediaserver was causing a wakelock. What is streaming media and why did it take up my 3G even though my mobile network wasn't on?

Bump, can't seem to figure out which app it is.

try disabling background data......
but before using playstore enable it as playstore requires background data to be enabled...

Hey all, I have a very annoying issue with my One X, it seems to have much trouble playing music..
When I'm listening music via Spotify or via the regular music app it begins stuttering and skipping after a while playing...
Anoybody else with the same problem or a way to solve it?
I have the same problem ...

Same here every once in a while. If I am not mistaken then this is an issue caused when the phone enters deep sleep or something along those lines. Does it always happen to you or just every once in a while ?

Same problem over here..
Pretty annoying!
by Lag do you mean stuttering at times ? Mine does that at times and can be quite random. Tried doubletwist and ubermusic players but same thing happens in those as in the sense music application.
When it starts for me I just do a reboot and it usually corrects it.
no issues with spotify here.. are you using a custom kernel? are you rooted? bit more info

More likely to be when the phone is switching from power saving core back to the main CPU.
Mine used to lag when skipping songs, over clocking did that trick

For now I have rooted my phone with CyanogenMod 10 ROM using the TripNDroid kernel they suggested.
After I did this the lag has got less, but I haven't really tested it, but I had some lag unfortunately
Grtz
Have all of you accessed the advanced menu and unchecked force single core option? Mine stuttered from time to time befor that

Is it from the Power Saver Settings? I just did that, but I still hear the random choppy sound..!

I'm happy that I'm at least not the only one so there could be found a solution (I hope)
Hi, since upgrading to JB, I've noticed that my battery drain on standby is a lot worse than on ICS. So I downloaded better battery and basically I have a partial wakelock from audioout_4. Looking at system usage, Android system and media server are rather high, and were never that high before.
Any ideas on how I can sort this please. I'm not sure what app out process thus represents. Cheers

I have the exact same issue,
Do you already have an solution?
By any chance any of you use a bluetooth headset/speaker or something? I can't find anything on Google regarding this so I'm just giving some random tech advice
Also, do you have a kernel wakelock screenshot?
I just checked my wakelocks and I'm having the same issue lol ~_~

it seems that we all have the same problem with the same AudioOut_4 wakelock.
In the first place i thought that "networklocationprovider" was the culprit for the phone not entering into deep sleep, but after the last update that problem is gone and only this is left.
and, very curiously, there's no solution on google, either..
If i found something i'll go back and report
AudioOut_4 must have something to do with the speaker.
I also have the same problem. Could is be somehow related to the music player?

I don't use my phone much for music, and wakelocks shouldn't be happening when the phone is idle and in deep sleep /: Still getting this wakelock ):
Anyone figure it out? I'm getting this as well... Although it is strange because I just saw it today. I've been running BBS for a few weeks and this is the first I've seen of it.
I wasn't using a music app or Bluetooth, so I'm scratching my head on this one as well.

Maybe it something related with google now? I change speeach output to handfree only and still monitoring how it goes.
One X Fueled by Tegra 3 Driven by IceColdJelly
Any solution for this problem? Got One X+ and same, phone is 3h off charger and AudioOut_4 is 50m on, top of the list for partial wakelocks...
I believe audio_out can be stopped by going to:
Settings - sound
Then Disabling touch sounds and screen unlock sound.
Not 100% sure but give it a try.

Can anyone tell me what is happening to my phone? Why media used 73% of total battery? Many thanks!
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app
lol, a cliff...
just to see in this pic, it might media keep sync or playing, try recharge it and monitor with BBS
I had the same problem, turned out to be a corrupt MP3 on my SDCard causing the Media Scanner service to go crazy. I used an MP3 fixing program to correct it and it now Media is less than 2%.
What is the program name?

You are maybe also affected by this bug, very, very annoying: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=37199
There is also an app to deactivate the bloody media scanner, but that is also an temporary fix only, because from time to time we need it:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.addz.mediascannerroot&feature=search_result
Personally, I have a shortcut on my home screen to deactivate and another to activate that service... It seems also to be triggered by too many files in a single folder (If I understand the bug report correctly).
Its called MP3Validator (Windows) - http://mp3val.sourceforge.net/

Make sure your media players arent still running in the background and that your network programs arent keeping your phone awake by scanning for new media every few minutes...
When my phone used media excessively, I just went into my media players (allshare, dice player, mx player, UPnPlay, XBMC, etc) and made sure media scans were set accordingly and then shut my phone off and let it charge to full strength.... worked for me

Thanks for the reply. I tried that also. Upnp un installed already. Even took of the battery n reboot couple of times but the DRM Protected thing and media storage still killing my battery

What you ladies and gents are staring at is a wake lock. In this case, due to the MediaScannerService.
There are a few different causes, one being some corrupt image, sound or video file somewhere on your SD card.
Solutions range from killing the service to finding the troublesome files and deleting them.
Good luck,
Darkshado

A few games I play trigger the MediaScanner services to come on and keep the phone awake (wakelock). One being NFS:MW. If you long press the home button after playing it and swipe it away it will kill it.
Just noticed this. Mobile data still shows while on WiFi or turned off. I've rebooted a couple of times (even turned off mobile data, then restart, still shows) but it won't go away. No a huge deal... Just not right and bothers me.

Yeah mine is doing the same thing, wasn't doing that before the update.
I've always had it shown. And I don't know why.

That's strange, mine would only show Wi-Fi when it was on the 4g would only show while using data.
same here, if I believe the Verizon GS5 forums, same happened to them when Volte was pushed on their phones...

Are you running stock rom? Viper gives you the option to turn this on/off in their tweaks.

Has anyone else's signal gotten worse with the new update? I use to have 4 bars at home, now only 1-2 although the speeds are still about the same.

Ever since the update my Spotify and Tunein keep telling me I am offline when I am not on Wifi, yet my browser works perfectly fine when using data...
Do you think having both is causing apps to have this issue?

I don't use either of those so I couldn't tell ya. I did notice that my 4g icon changed to 4g lte while I was on WiFi, makes me think it's still reading towers? Idk...

I have the same issue and a buddy of mine has the same issue also. I went to the TMO store to check their display phone which was already updated to 4.4.4 and that also has the same issue. So it's definitely a software bug since it was not doing this on 4.4.3. Basically when turning on wifi your mobile data should automatically turn off, it's not doing this on 4.4.4 and thus your battery drains faster since both are on, you have to manually turn off data. And when you do turn off data, the icon still remains even though it's not active. Only airplane mode would get rid of the data icon.
Seems like they're issues relating to calling and the camera also, though I haven't been able to test these myself. But overall I'd say 4.4.4 is a buggy release, battery drains a little quicker too.

I have the same problem, fully stock, never rooted. I did wipe the cache partition but that didn't make any difference. I would be curious to see if it persists after a full wipe but I don't really want to do that to mine at the moment.

Yeah don't waste your time with a factory reset, I did this 2 times before I called a buddy of mine and also checked the display phone at the store. Its a software bug and everything I tried has had no effect, problem still present. Hopefully HTC releases a patch soon to fix this because data is constantly on, it does not sleep. The battery definitely drains a little quicker.
Weird, I don't seem to have this issue. Running latest OTA, stock with root.

I too have been having a lot of trouble with this update. Four or five of my programs that would work over 4G now only work when I'm connected to WiFi. I'm still able to watch Youtube and surf the web, but it's extremely aggravating not being able to play my games while I'm on the train to work. I wonder if it has to do with the radio update they pushed with the 4.4.4 release.
